A letter for Mariah (50,166) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Mariah, if you are reading this, I would like to just speak on behalf of the lambily that we will always love and support you. We get frustrated, we criticize, we get angry, but it all comes only from the love we all share for you. I can tell you this, you are the woman who has helped me through a lot of pain and sorrow in my life without you even knowing it. I never had the chance to meet you, but your songs where there for me when nobody else was, like a hug I needed desperately or telling me to hold on and keep trying. I don't know if you know the impact your music had on so many people around the world, but you should know you are a very special person to me. At this point your career is going through a rough patch and I pray and hope for it to be back on track again. I don't know what personal issues you might be having and if it is too much for you to focus on your career at the moment, then take a break and focus on yourself. However if you want to claim back the throne that rightfully belongs to you, you need to start changing a few thing. The first would be to try and be the MC everyone fell in love with, the humble, sweet and witty Mariah, the girl with the golden voice. Second come out and tell people directly about your problems. No need to get into details, but just address your fans directly that you are going through a rough patch and I can assure you, you will find the lambily right by your side. I think a common complaint has been that you are not addressing anything directly to the lamb. Third accept the fact that even though you are still one of the most gifted singers, your voice has suffered a lot and just come out and say that. No one will judge you. Fourth, work with a vocal coach regularly and I am sure you can gain back the full potential of your voice. Fifth, it's time you change things up, come out of your comfort zone, try out different music while staying true to your style. Work with great producers (like Timbaland), work on strong collaborations (Bruno, Taylor, Beyonce). Sixth, accept the fact that only your brand will no longer sell the music like it used to, even current artists are suffering so when you embark on a project, you have to promote it like crazy. The world needs to know about it and they need to see believe that you believe in your work. A major problem with MIAM was that most people didn't know about it and a lot of people just assumed that since you are not bothered with promoting it, it might mean you just randomly put together an album just for the sake of it. So I hope you see this, and I hope you make the changes necessary. I love you and I always want the best for you. I would love to see it. Lee already put up a huge beautiful picture of MC in one of the shots on Empire and it was featured prominently for quite a long time and if MC is actually on I would freak out. Your initial claim was he is using Rihanna as part of his genius evil master plan to dethrone Mariah. Now you are going about another route. Stop trying to make everything a conspiracy. Paul McCartney (50,087) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter While I might agree that the media seems to be really after Mariah with so many people throwing constant shade at her, or that maybe just maybe insiders of the music industry do not want Mariah to break the record of The Beatles, I do not agree that Paul teamed up with Rihanna to beat MC. That's ridiculous. What good would it do for Paul if Rihanna does manage to beat MC's record? Mariah has 18, Beatles have 20. If Rihanna beats MC with a 19th #1, then wouldn't she immediately turn into a bigger threat than Mariah for the Beatles? I mean she will be just phone calls away from scoring 2 more #1's and beating their record. Paul probably just liked the idea of the concept Rihanna had and that's why they teamed up. It's because of this unusual out of the box experiment that the song blew up. I don't think The Beatles will prefer having someone like Rihanna break their record rather than MC (who can actually sing) doing it. And the reason why MC's performances are being scrutinized so much is because before the last couple of years, social media and technology was not so widely used and every moment could not be captured and shared with the whole word instantly. So every mistake made by any celeb is now worldwide news almost immediately. That's the only reason. (Friday 13 February 2015; 18:23)

#1's (50,080) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Really let's get real here OK? Instead of making some of us feel selfish for wanting MC to continue having more #1's than any other solo artists, you guys should know that MC apparently wants that too. In almost every interview she'll bring up the "you know what the record is, I'm not saying it but you know the charts records" and similar things where she basically tries to remind everyone that she has the most #1's. She did it in many interviews, I don't know how many of you have noticed. It was very apparent she was a little taken aback in one of the radio interviews last year when they didn't know what "statistic" she was talking about. It might have been the Breakfast Club interview or whatever and she tried to bring up her chart record of #1's but she couldn't say it directly and went about it indirectly and the host could not catch it and so she had to move on. She keeps trying to mention that she surpassed Elvis but always adds something like "I can't say it myself". With MC losing credibility over her voice lately and with her music bombing, her record of #1's is one of the most important things of her career she has left. You guys think she'll be happy to lose it? Especially to someone like Rihanna? You guys must really be blind to think MC doesn't care about keeping that record. (Friday 13 February 2015; 10:39)

Amber C (50,064) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter If I am not mistaken, Patti isn't actually Mariah's Godmother. She just calls her that out of love and respect for her. I think Patti and Mariah met after she became a star, and since Mariah was always a fan of Patti and Patti likes Mariah so MC calls Patti her Godmother. Patti didn't know Mariah up until after she became famous. Plus I do not think MC had diva behavior since she was a child. She had quite a hard life and if you even see her up until early 2000s, she was pretty humble and down to earth. The diva behavior came later as a disguise, an alter ego if you will, which later engulfed her completely. And what stepfather are you talking about? (Thursday 12 February 2015; 21:37)

Kyle (50,060) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Rihanna actually is the biggest threat. She is not past her peak. She just scored a number 1 with Eminem a while back. She is young and has a huge fan following. Don't forget that people thought Mariah's career has peaked and was going into decline when Glitter happened. No one thought she'd bounce back but she came back with 3 more #1's, so underestimating Rihanna isn't wise. Taylor Swift is someone who Mariah can worry about later. She has 3 number #1s. Once she reaches 10, that's when she's a threat. I would however love for MC to work with Taylor and see what they can cook up, they are both great songwriters. One other thing I see people saying is that MC will still have the record of female songwriter with most #1's, while that is true, at this point you guys are just clutching on to whatever you have. How many times did you hear Mariah being promoted as the female songwriter with most #1's during an interview introduction or video montage during performances on shows and concerts? It's always "artist with most #1 hits", "over 200 million albums sold" and "the voice". Mariah has many records under her name, but her being able to hold the 18 number 1s for so long is one of her top selling points, so if she wants to keep that image, the work needs to start. Rihanna (50,028) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I don't think anyone said that Rihanna is even quarter as good as Mariah. The girl can't even sing. However it is true that she is the strongest contender to take Mariah's #1's record. It doesn't matter whether she got her #1's by singing a hook on another person's song or whatever, it will be counted as her #1. So that's a fact. She is young and has time to scoop up more #1's. Let's not forget that Mariah grabbed 3 of her #1's in her mid to late 30's. While Mariah still will have a magnificent legacy, she will no longer be able to promote herself as the artist with the most #1 singles because this along with her "over 200 million albums sold" and "the voice" are the key points her promoters use. So that's why Rihanna is a risk. No one is thinking she is better than Mariah so calm the eff down. (Wednesday 11 February 2015; 12:48)

Another dress (50,024) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Another gorgeous outfit Mariah wore was for Top of the Pops performance in 2005. It was a champagne yet silvery sparkly number which completely covers her front side but is open at the back. She looks beautiful in it and it was a mini dress which showed off her amazing legs. The blue/purple dress (50,022) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter No that dress was a hot mess. Nothing about it was good. It wasn't a proper fit, I don't know what the designer had in his vision but the whole waist area seemed like a lot of material scrunched up together and pulled back. The whole dress basically looked like a satin bed sheet was taken and wrapped around Mariah and they knotted on her shoulder in a huge bow, and then cinched at the waist to by scrunching up the material to fit her waist line. It's a very bad gown to say the least. The only good thing about the gown is it's beautiful color and that it covers the boobs. But Mariah has had better gowns in similar category, the best I think would be the plum-maroon gown one shouldered gown she wore on AI, and she had the gorgeous old Hollywood glam hair going on. The only thing I disagree with is that I don't think hip hop ruined Mariah, it introduced her to a new fanbase and personally I kind of really like the hip hop Mariah. She somehow manages to blend in seamlessly into this genre without looking like she's trying too hard. It seems to come to her so naturally and I love her hip hope flavored songs so I am glad she ventured out, not that I don't like the classic MC ballads, I love those too. As for stage performance, Mariah needs to stop allowing that Rae Rae to choreograph her. She adds absolutely nothing good and she's got MC stuck in the same routine of "hip sway here", "run hands down the side of your body there", "a little finger snap", "the TEOM pose" and other usual ones. Also I hope MC puts in a little more thought on the stage presentation and stage lights. As for her outfits, I agree with the others, the boobs should be covered up a little more and she should try out different clothes. Perhaps sing Bringin' On The Heartbreak in full rock star attire at one show? I don't know. Anything at all. (Monday 9 February 2015; 16:46)

Grammys and all (49,952) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I miss seeing Mariah at major award shows. I don't know why she isn't attending any of these. Her WBT/FLAB performance at the Grammy's still gives me goosebumps. Those are times she looks so alive on stage. Everything about that show was perfection, the dress, the hair, the show. Then the WBT performance at the MTV movie awards, she looked gorgeous. The My All performance at Divas Live. I love seeing all the major artists looking up at her in awe while she is on stage. Also why doesn't Mariah do more looks like the one she did for Obama at the inauguration neighborhood ball during 2009? That look was all sorts of perfection. Shelly (49,939) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I was thinking along the same lines of Mariah having 4 costume changes and hair changes for a set list divided into 4 parts. While it may be impossible to get the hair done in such short time, she can just use wigs customized for her. I think it will be fabulous and really take people for a walk down memory lane. I hope she has something major and grand planned for her Vegas shows. She's in top shape physically at the moment so any look will be great on her. I hope she diversifies instead of only gowns. Hopefully Vegas will give her the fresh start she needs. The voice is still there, the confidence is just shaken up I guess. (Sunday 8 February 2015; 23:48)

Baby, yes again (49,936) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Aren't you contradicting yourself when you say MC is the "master of lip synching" and then saying you're glad she is "lousy at being fake" when lip synching? The other performers who lip synch would be Beyonce, Madonna, Britney, JLo, even MJ sometimes. But what these people do on stage that people chose to ignore them lip synching is they're putting up a show. They are not only hiding behind dancers, they're dancing themselves. They go through days of rehearsals to get their moves right and the visual performance and stage effects that they put up is what keeps the audience entertained. Nobody at this day and age is stupid to think that these people are singing perfectly in tune while jumping around the stage or swinging from strings. They even rework their hits by remixing them. They're excused because the people going to the show gets the performance as a substitute for live singing. In case of M her entire performance is dependent on her voice. Noone told her to sing every line, but atleast try to sing when you can, or atleast put up a proper lip synch. Change up arrangements/remix the songs to give the audience a new look at an old song. MC is the queen of remixes and re-doing vocals of her songs, she just doesn't seem inclined to waste time re-recording some songs with a newer arrangement. You gotta give the audience something worth their time and money. Either a great visual performance, or a great vocal moment. (Sunday 8 February 2015; 20:05)

Baby (49,918) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter If what you say is true that Mariah will "make him eat his own words" about Nathan, then shouldn't we be glad that his words actually sparked the fire in her to prove him and everyone else wrong? After all nothing else seems to be motivating her to stop delivering one bad performance after another. There is no doubt Mariah is what she is today based on her own merits, but seriously, you really think MC is great as her own manager? Have you really not seen what went down when she was left to manage herself? Heck it has been that way since she hired Randy and Jermaine also since they were only "managers" by name but she was calling the shots and we have all seen how that went down. Perhaps not letting critics get somewhat the best of her isn't so good for an entertainer because if she would have been looking at the news, she would have not have been making one mistake after another. You talk about haters, when you are spewing hatred yourself on others every day. No one here has the time to sit and write about MC if they didn't love her or want the best for her. So excuse us for wanting MC to rise again and slay the charts, while you keep coddling her with the same issh that people around her are doing only to make her dig a grave for her career. Your little "MC can do no wrong" will do nothing but dim the fire in her more because she will see no reason to improve herself. Because how can one improve perfection? Shelly / MAC (49,843) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I love MAC and I always longed for MC to do a collaboration with them. They come out with such amazing celebrity collaborations. MC is glamorous and beautiful and successful. I think she will be perfect. I mean they even had Sir Elton John and Ricky Martin do collaborations, so why not Mariah? I mean she obviously uses more makeup than Ricky and Elton. I love the special packaging they do for collaborations. Mariah's should be gold and classy. They usually include items in it that the celebrity wears most, so for Mariah I guess that would include an eyeshadow quad with gold, brown, black and taupe, then 2 lipsticks (pink and nude), 2 matching lipglosses, a pair of sexy lashes, sunkissed bronzer powder and a sweet pink blush. MAC would expose her to a new generation and also bring her to the attention of people who already knew her. They usually carry out big promotions for these and since Mac falls in the range between drugstore and high end, it is used by people from all age groups. Also why MC was never on Vogue baffles me. With her level of fame she should have been all over it. I am surprised she wasn't on it even in TEOM era when she was in all mags and she was in best dressed lists and she had Andre Leon by her side. (Friday 6 February 2015; 22:59)

Nathan (49,829) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I applaud his courage, because he risked losing his friendship with MC (she might not speak to him) and the wrath of lambs around the world. He risked being bombarded on social media by the fans. Yet he decided to speak up. Someone needed to. I don't know if Mariah reads our messages, we are basically unknown faces. But I think there is a chance Nathan's message may reach MC. Thing is if she takes this as a wake up call and turns her life around, she'll be the gainer. If she takes this as negativity and turns her back on him, only she'll be the loser. I do not take this as a sabotage attempt. Not in the least. Yes, like Shelly said, maybe he could have talked to her in private but I guess for some reason he thought this was the way he wants to go about it. For months now MC has been systematically tarnishing her own legacy. Why she is doing it is beyond me. But I hate to see her like this. I am glad that most people on this board agree with Nathan on this, instead of badmouthing him. Because honestly, there is no more time left to coddle Mariah anymore and expect she'll change her ways, it's time for some straight up conversation and Mariah has to confront her mistakes. Shake It Off / May (49,792) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Shake It Off is such an amazing video. I can watch it on repeat. Every single outfit in that video, every hairstyle and every makeup was on point there. I loved it that instead of going only stick straight and mermaid curls Mariah played up her hair, and she also came out of her signature fresh faced, rosy cheeks looks to do a lot of dramatic makeup numbers. The outfits were glamorous and sexy without looking inappropriate. If I am not mistaken this is the only video of Mariah apart from Breakdown where she tries out multiple looks that we don't see her in. Breakdown is another favourite video of mine because of this. Don't get me wrong, I love the signature MC look, but I love it more when she plays up on her looks. I also don't think MC doesn't need to compromise on her music quality and just focus on a good video. We have seen she can create good music and get awesome videos for it too. She needs a major image change. The diva image has to go for now, or atleast until she has earned it back. People need to see her for who she is as an artist, brilliant and talented, and stop viewing her as a "has been whose career is over". MC has the capability to shut everyone up, she just needs to get the confidence back. I think she was super confident during TEOM. It showed in the way she talked, walked and smiled. The * sign is "this" like specifically marking it. The "/" is "that" as in "or that" which basically the symbol stands for. And "..." means "the other" like when we finish of a sentence with "..." it may sometimes mean etcetra or "and so on". Just what I think. Not sure. (Thursday 5 February 2015; 15:12)

Abraham (49,778) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter I agree with you. Mariah needs a fresh sound. I also love to hear more party songs from Mariah like ILT. She needs to be heard at clubs, sing songs at concerts that people can dance to. I know ballads are signature Mariah and I am not telling her to drop it. I wish she would work with Bruno Mars or Taylor Swift or others one would never expect her to collaborate with. Like maybe even Robin Thicke. I am longing for the day when the social media and the world will blow up again with news about Mariah coming back with a bang. I want to see Mariah trending for being the legend that she is instead of her being in the news for latest mess ups are going viral. I understand she is human and she is going through a tough time and in that case I think she should take a break and come back when she feels good and confident. But if she chooses to keep working she needs to deliver on it. Because at the end of the day it's her legacy and she has to protect it. (Thursday 5 February 2015; 1:23)

Marissa (49,768) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter Haha that has been one of my favourite Mariah shots for a very long time. She just looks so effortlessly sexy with the messy updo. Isn't the video just awesome? I really love all the videos of that era. She played with different hairstyle, makeup (Shake It Off anyone?) and outfits. For many fans DFAU kind of takes a back seat to WBT mainly because the latter was such a huge hit, so I guess the video of DFAU is kind of underrated. But I really like it. However I guess it's no WBT. That song is legendary. (Wednesday 4 February 2015; 21:57)
