About Tijl from Belgium: Enchanted by Mariah ever since 'Butterfly' dem Gucci heels in the pool!!!

Re: T4 music special (2009) (80,914) (80,915) by Tijl from Belgium
She was going through hell at the time trying to get over a miscarriage and seeking medical assistance so she would be able to conceive. It's not always because of the splashes.

My ultimate list of favourite videos (80,740) by Tijl from Belgium
It seems that we all share the same favourite videos. Following Andrew's point that it is impossible to pick one absolute video here is my list depending om my mood or my needs.
Most iconic: "Honey". The ultimate break and liberation from her old image featuring a sexy yet classy Mariah Bond. Highlight: That escape into the pool wearing those fabulous Gucci heels.
Most gorgeous: "I Still Believe". A tribute to Marilyn and Brenda K. Starr, this video shows Mariah looking absolutely gorgeous. She pulls of Old Hollywood glamour like none other. Highlight: Close-ups of Mariah in a jumpsuit with a ponytail driving dem marines crazy.
Most random: "Sweetheart". Despite being hidden in the obscurity of '90s RnB collaborations this remains one of my all time favourites. A great juxtaposition of Mariah and JD with slick and longing lyrics. Highlight: Mariah lounging in the Guggenheimm useum holding a white cat. Honestly?
Most kitsch: "Get Your Number". A perfect song when preparing for a night on the town. A bronzed Mariah barely clothed flirting like there is no tomorrow and bragging about her penthouse and G4. Highlight: Mariah on a gigantic bleeding telephone.
Most sophisticated: "It's Like That". The queen returning to prominence with a banger clearly stating that it will happen the way she sees fit. Beautiful cinematography, gorgeous sets and Mariah looking like a million dollars. Highlight: Every single frame is fabulous but nothing beats the opening scene where she is escorted down the staircase: "I came to have a party..." culminating in a cliffhanger that made every lamb crave for more.
Most adult: " The Roof". Her sexiest song to date. A very different and more mature approach within her formula of looking sexy. This Mariah is longing and the viewer is doing accordingly. Great '80s vibe with the vintage limo and superb styling. If only "Glitter" had a notch of this video it could have been quite a different 2001 for Mariah. Highlight: Mariah straight up through the skylight of the car clearly enjoying the caresses of the warm November rain.

Best music video? (80,698) by Tijl from Belgium
Which of Mariah's videos do you consider to be her best and why?

Re: Couldn't Give That Away (80,672) (80,674) by Tijl from Belgium
Thank you for standing by me Andrew dahling. I am astounded by the lack of humour on this board. I was a teenager in the '90s when being overtly PC wasn't the esprit-tendance and one was aloud to be outspoken and have a personality.

Re: Couldn't Give That Away (80,647) (80,653) by Tijl from Belgium
I do not belittle the fact that what happened with Titanic was tragic. I merely mock the song and the movie, which both were incredibly cheesy. The fact that James Cameron exploited this drama for profit is much more insulting than my quote. However, if I have insulted anybody involved or related to Titanic, Céline Dion, James Cameron, Leo or Kate or any of the fish in those waters on the very night, I am truly sorry.

Re: Couldn't Give That Away (80,636) (80,644) by Tijl from Belgium
It is a matter of finding whatever you need within the lyrics and how they resonate to your personal situation. Millions of people around the world cried their eyes out because Céline lamented about a sinking ship. Talk about schmaltz. I do agree however that both videos for CTTA were not very good.

Re: Mariah's most inspiring song (80,620) (80,625) by Tijl from Belgium
I can only confirm your post. This song was and still is ever so inspiring. I love the performance at the Diana Ross tribute. A shame it never was broadcasted nor made available on DVD.

Re: New album title ideas (80,444) (80,463) by Tijl from Belgium
Wouldn't "Long Island Girl" be a good album title as in going back to basics? "Forget about the image, big hair, short skirts... Whatever. I own this to the fans and I will never forget it."
It's time for Mariah to show us and the world why exactly we all fell in love with her as an artist and as a human being. This woman has meant a great deal to me over the last two decades. And some of her more personal songs still resonate with me on a daily basis. I do understand she wants to move on and not necessarily look back on what without a doubt has been a tumultuous life but that lifestory is what made her in the first place. I love her diva attitude because it is very much tongue in cheeck but the general public takes her for a goof. She is capable of so, so much more.

Re: Gl (80,312) (80,315) by Tijl from Belgium
I love that she is looking more like herself instead of the Zombieriah of the previous years. Her glow isn't just the result of Kristopher's capable hands. She wore a good dress - not great though - and looked very much at ease.

NYE ... no "tea" (80,192) by Tijl from Belgium
As soon as I woke up this morning I frantically started searching the web for news about last night's performance (there is an 6 hour time difference with Belgium). I had no doubts Mariah would take this opportunity very seriously and that she would understand how the gravitas of the outcome would affect her future career. She did very, very well considering the circumstances. Too bad the press only focuses on her request for tea. However I do believe she was making jokes and referring to the gossip and headlines (it's tea though) she was creating by her performance. After the performance she posted "found my tea". Yes girl, you found your tea and the haters will have a hard time to swallow.

Quote of a life lived (79,528) by Tijl from Belgium
Mary J. Blige told us how she was exploited by record companies. Your mother being an opera singer must have been a great protector? "I don't know if anybody can protect anybody in this industry." What a statement. I hope Mariah will find the audacity one day to come out with an honest and complete biography. This woman has lived a million lives in a single lifetime. She could be even more inspiring to others than she is already. From childhood to living in a shanty to Mottola and going downhill with the Glitter project. The difficulties and the shame of being a fallen goddess to her triumphant renaissance with TEOM. Maybe she is scared to reveal too much.
I just watched the documentary about Whitney Houston "Let me be me" and I was shocked about her drug abuse ever since she was in her teens. She was a soul very much in pain and tried to find happiness through music. But the vultures in charge of these artists' careers and their revenue are never satisfied. With all the revelations about sexual agressive behaviour and abuse in show business one can only fathom what really goes on behind the scenes. Does becoming a global superstar really demand for your soul after all? God bless.

A new dawn? (79,250) by Tijl from Belgium
So we have hit a new era albeit a rather odd one. But then again, what else is new? I have no doubt Mariah has always had the final word concerning the decisions made over the last years. Unfortunately Stella had too much of a negative impact on Mariah who is by nature quite insecure. Medina pushed her into the right direction during the TEOM era and God knows Nick has tried to do so as well. There is however a blatant difference in Mariah's persona over the last weeks. She has regained a certain glow of relaxation and her styling is far from the trailer trash ensembles Stella seemed to favour. Mariah has a lot on her plate these coming months and I truly hope she will deliver. To be continued...

Bye bye Stella? (79,177) by Tijl from Belgium
The internet is buzzing with rumours on Stella not longer being Mariah's manager. The Christmas season does seem to start in November.

Re: Glitter OST (79,074) (79,075) by Tijl from Belgium
I love the Glitter album. A favorite up there with Butterfly and Emancipation. It's a shame it was such a flop. The movie was not good although I do watch it ocasssionally just because Mariah is in it. I often wonder what could have happened if the project was reduced to the level of a 12 year old audience. There was a lot of potential. The soundtrack radiates fun, freedom and her voice is on point. That note in LTW is unparalleled and I loved her version of LNADSML.

Mariahisms (78,873) by Tijl from Belgium
Do you guys occassionally happen to use some of Mimi's catchphrases in your daily lives? I have caught myself having quite some "moments" which sometimes are "freakin' bleak-o-city". What about you?

Re: Rainbow tour live in Los Angeles (78,796) (78,819) by Tijl from Belgium
The first time I saw Mariah live in concert was on the first date of the Rainbow tour in Antwerp on February 14th 1999. (God, I am getting old.) I was very very excited to see my idol live for the very first time. Unfortunately it was a bit of a mess to be honoust. But because of my excitement and unbiased age I enjoyed every minute. She was late, about two hours late and the show schlepd on forever. The dress changes took forever and I had to leave early to make it home on time (public transport doesn't care for Mimi's schedule) so I missed the performance of Honey which remains an all time favorite. Years later I attended the Charmbracelet tour in Rotterdam. That show was bloody amazing. A shame it was never released on dvd.

Hopefully a new team indeed. I just read : "Instead of creating new music Mariah Carey will link her name to even more licensed products nobody really cares about."

Re: Why was Mariah on stage? (78,421) (78,426) by Tijl from Belgium
Dear Andrew, I know you are supossedly the accidental queen of shade on this board, but right now I do stand up with you... and we all should. Our lady is being honoured - matter of fact this award does mean a lot - and she could not care less. I became a genuine and obsessed fan only because of the Butterfly album. I never really cared about MC before her transformation to be honest. This was the best opportunity to find redemption after the new year's eve debacle but yet again we get... Well we didn't get anything. I am trying to find the exact definition because this wasn't a performance whatsoever.
Do you lot remember when Mimi performed SIO and WBT at the MTV awards in Miami? You do because that was an epic moment. Last night was the next degree of seperation from the fans and from her legacy as a great artist. Can we keep on blaming Stella? I don't think so.

Paper magazine covers (78,036) by Tijl from Belgium
The battle of the cover girls. The Songbird Supreme versus someone I don't know. The version with Mariah is by far the better one. Less is more.

Re: Is there any soso track on MIAMTEC? (77,983) (78,000) by Tijl from Belgium
In all honestly, I anxiously anticipated this album's release as it had been postponed endlessly. It did take several sessions before it struck me how fantastic this album actually is. Mariah is at her best when she is telling stories. #Beautiful, Faded, You Don't Know and You're Mine remain great songs. I did miss Triumphant and Almost Home on the album as I would have preferred them to the remixed versions from "Memoirs" and I could have lived without Supernatural. Never really cared for it despite the cuteness of Roc and Roe's babbling. I just don't think of it as a great song.
