Next album (45,631)

I don't think we'll need to wait long for the next album to drop. I have a strong feeling she'll release it next year to mark her 25th year in the business. It's a great opportunity and will give her the chance to quickly get people's mind off the disaster (that is Chanteuse) by ensuring the next one becomes a success. Although it seems like it's all over for Chanteuse, I still hope there is something more to come. Atleast the video for YDKWTD.

Spreading some love (45,599)

Can we all just take a moment and gush at the pictures of Mariah at the premier and the selfies she posted? She looks great. She is now looking like she did in 2005. Healthy and extremely glamorous and ofcourse gorgeous. I am so happy for her. Although she always looks good no matter what size, but she is insecure and I hope now she is feeling better about herself. I see the gloves have come off finally. They were fun for a while (the long ones only) but I can't say I miss them. The dress is sexy and not tacky. The necklace she is wearing is the same she sported in 2005. Hair looks great. She looks radiant and fresh. No where near 44. Mariah, "ah-ah you're beautiful".

I love your idea for Money. Mine was actually really similar including the shopping and vacation part. But instead of a helicopter I had a private jet in mind and instead of the cut scenes being of her like the Bye Bye video (where she is on stage) I was thinking of the cut scenes being like the Honey remix (like she was with Diddy and Mase in the golden honey tunnel, dancing around like where she was wearing the brown crop top and skirt in your display picture) so she could be in another setting with Fabolous and Mike will and dance around with them, bumping and bouncing to the chorus and some rap parts. And at the end when Fabulous says "take your money" they she could throw a wad of cash at the camera and walk away.

Man, the Katy quote was real. Now I don't know if she is actually trying to sabotage Mariah's career, but the throwback comment was a diss. I remember reading it and thought it was probably taken out of context but I watched the interview and she meant it in a mean way and once she said that people around her chuckled a little and she was like enjoying it. Katy has a habit of picking fights with people even when the other party doesn't provoke her (or care for her either). She has done it with Gaga, Miley, Rihanna, and many others. She says controversial stuff to stay relevant because honestly her songs (even though she is a somewhat decent singer) are like the kind of songs which will come, get real popular for the season and then it falls off the face of the earth (unlike Mariah or Michael or Whitney whose songs to on to become classics). So Katy needs to stay in the news by picking up one sided fights with other celebs.

Yes. You are absolutely right, I completely forgot about the Cameron Diaz song. I think it was also partly inspired by the Jessica Rabbit one. But yes, I meant the same setting, the club like one. Where her love interest would come and she would be on stage performing and dancing with cutscenes of her on a piano like you mentioned. She can get down from the stage and sing around the guy too. Lol we should send this idea to Mariah.

Haha, my ideas for Money are also very cheesy. The song is a cheesy one so it's not surprising. But I really enjoy the song, everyone sounds like they are having fun in it. As for MILG, yes the piano would go nicely with the 60s theme. She could also have some cut scenes doing a few sultry slow dance moves while singing, on a stage in a club like setting while her love interest looks on. Have you seen the Jessica Rabbit "Why don't you do right?" song? Something similar but definitely a little dialed down and a little more clothing. Since MILG is such a sultry song and we all know Mariah loves looking sexy, she can do the video like this instead of sitting in one place and looking at the camera all the time.

I do that too. All the time. Especially with Mariah's songs. Currently I have been trying to think up a good one for Money. It's such a fun song. And Make It Look Good always gives me old Hollywood feel for some reason. It would be great if it had a black and white of Mariah in 60's make up and hair and clothing.

She did mention something along those lines. Also she keeps saying she sequenced the album to tell a story, she emphasized in the sequencing a lot. And she said that this album represents her journey of the past 4 years. I don't remember exact quotes at the moment but I am sure she did say these. I agree with your theory that it may be about her feeling scared of being hurt in love again. She may be feeling insecure now about nick and all. The miscarriage idea, is not something I think she touched on in this album. She has not one but two great kids whereas she probably thought she never would be able to have kids anymore. So I think that the miscarriage is way in her past now. By the way I forgot to mention this earlier but your idea of the Thirsty video was brilliant. I remember reading it and while I was mid way I was like I don't think Mariah would ever do it (like showing she is at home while nick is partying it up) for self image issues. But when I go to the twist at the end that they will be laughing about it and it was all a joke, I was like wow that's brilliant. I love it when Mariah is easy going and doesn't mind being funny in videos like obsessed and TMB and even SIO.

One More Try (45,497)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I just want to start off by saying that I really found the theory of it being about her pregnancy quite amazing. I would never have landed on that. So whoever thought of it, really good point. However I personally don't think it's about the miscarriage. 1) She said this album is a journey since she last left (that will be Memoirs). Her miscarriage was in 2008. 2) Mariah has given special mention to songs like Cry, Thirsty and all but never really talked abt OMT. If it was about the baby she would have atleast said the song is close my heart or something. 3) The lyrics can't be taken literally, it's not written by her so maybe there actually is no hidden meaning, she's just doing her version of it. 4) She had a miscarriage but after that had two beautiful babies, now I may be wrong here but I think two beautiful healthy children is like to have helped her get over her previous tragedy (like I said, I may be wrong). So these are just my two cents. Also Money may be about Nick but it's not in a negative way because she sings "They don't mean a thing because I come home to you at the end of the day." So it's a happy song, talking about how she doesn't need money because she comes home to her lover or maybe dembabies. So yes it's not negative. Also if it was something as sensitive as her miscarriage, I think Mariah would have penned her own song, instead of using another singer's song for it.

Will apparently release an double CD album, which will have just 1 copy and will be auctioned off for at least $1 million. They'll have old hits in one disc and the new disc will have collaborations with people they worked with before, and one of them is Mariah. I am so excited. I loved both breakdown and Li'l LOVE so I want to see what they have cooked up now. And hey new Mariah song.

Record deal (45,434)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Although I enjoyed Glitter, Chanteuse and Triumphant, I don't think it's a good idea for MC to go on without a deal. There is no denying the woman is a musical genius, 24 years in the business and still coming out with new sounds every era, however I agree with jaker20 that she isn't really a great business person. If Mariah wants her music to sell (which no matter how people argue that she doesn't care about, but she does), then she'll need a label to back her up, a whole team to guide her from promotions to videos to styling. Yes the Chanteuse era was a disaster however who is to know what really happened? Up until Chanteuse all other albums were promoted heavily, shows lined up, great promo shots, good styling blah blah. Yes some bad single choices but hey you lose some you get some. Even the Christmas album was promoted a lot. So a label can really benefit her. Mariah can take control of the creative side but if she wants to stay in the business she will need help with the rest.

Photoshop (45,426)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Every other Google news hit while searching for Mariah is screaming "this is how Mariah looks without photoshop" or "Mariah's shameful pictures" and all. That gets me upset, she doesn't look like that. It's just bad angles and very bad dress choices. Mariah looks really gorgeous from her candids. Secondly I hate it when people say "Mariah never was and never will be this thin" when they see pictures of her where her body is slimmed down (not the Terry one, I am talking about other shoots) well they clearly didn't see her pre 2002 and then again in 2008 when she was super skinny. I think Mariah looks bulkier than she is because of the boob job. She has a tiny waist but since she had the boob job starting 2002 her chest looks wide and that makes her look bulkier than she actually is, because she was really slim and even now has a small waist line. Things Mariah needs immediately 1) a new record deal, b) a genius manager, c) a great stylist. She needs to work on being a fashion icon.

It is true that Terry is a well know pervert and I have heard one too many rumors about him, however I don't think he was the one who leaked the pictures. Because it kind of was done to show that his signature method of photography is not really effective which basically makes him a crappy photographer. He does method and tries to pass of his photographs as candids that don't need editing. His signature photos are of the sort of documentary like (basically pretending to be candids) but with the leak of Mariah's pictures it shows his original versions are actually not effective. So it basically trashes his methods. I don't think he would want to do that to himself and he doesn't really have anything against Mariah. The more celebrities he has in his clientele the better for him.

Terry Richardson and photoshop (45,412)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I find the whole Terry photoshoot such a waste. That is possibly one of her worst shoots and now this little scandal. By worst shoot, I don't mean she looks bad, I just mean the pictures are not good, she looks uncomfortable. MC knows how to appear sexy in shoots, but in these pics she just looks uncomfortable. The image used on the magazine cover was the only good one. The one with her thighs out and a champagne glass is my least favorite. The pose is stiff and she doesn't look comfortable. And it's not a flattering angle. The dress is horrible too. Then the picture with dembabies is a little cringeworthy for me, I mean she could have worn something else and had a cuter moment in the pic. The one with her and Terry is also a bad angle. All in all, a bad photoshoot and now people will again start with "oh photoshop" thing which is pointless because every celeb uses it. I don't mind her excessive use of photoshop on the Chanteuse cover, since it's an "artwork" nobody claimed its candid. Artworks are not always representative of reality and I like the picture. So no, photoshop isn't a problem for me. But I really hate the terry shoot. Bad decision.

I think Andre Leon was heavily involved in what Mariah wore in 2005-06. I am absolutely certain the stuff she wore inside the Louis Vuitton store shots (as in the swimsuit and the black and white number) were chosen by him. All the clothes were from Louis Vuitton line of that season. I think she should get back with Andre. I also adore the clothes she wore during AI. Those wore some amazing clothes, I wonder why she doesn't wear similar stuff anymore. I am kind of tired of the black gowns. They are boring now. Mariah looks great in all colors, so why not aim at being a fashion icon too? That will also help her get younger audiences. I think she should step out of her comfort zone little by little. Maybe wear a sexy suit like she did in the Ellen show, or pull a jeans-and-top moment like 2008.

I don't think it's the official cover. It's fan made. It's the same picture that's on the official chanteuse cover with a dress photoshopped on it, the background changed and a mic set infront of her. If you google "Aimssy Boudir Mariah Carey" then you'll see there are many artworks of the official chanteuse cover with clothes on. About 10-12 different clothes. However this blue one is not a part of that. I saw another fan post it so it originally so I am assuming he designed it. Whether Mariah picked it from the "send me your YDKWTD cover" thing or not, I can't be sure but yeah it's basically fan made.

Had Mariah done all the promo she could and then it would have flopped, I don't think people would be complaining. They would know she did everything she could and then failed. But if it seems like she herself isn't excited about her album, then one can't expect people to get excited. If it was a bad album I wouldn't feel so bad that she didn't go around promoting. I hate that such a piece of art is suffering a bad label (lowest selling) when it had the potential to do so much better. Plus like I said, Mariah isn't even responding to the frustrations of the fans. I am sure she sees all the things people tweet her asking what on earth went wrong, but she just chooses to reply to the positive ones. And then she sends out JD every month to be hanged. I don't think it's JD's fault, the man clearly is pissed with the way the album is going. At least he is communicating with the fans.

I laughed so hard at your post. I was going to say the same thing that it doesn't suit someone who is so rude in their own post to go ahead and preach others how to behave. I don't really think anyone on the board that are complaining about the promotions or lack of contact from Mariah are being rude in any way. As fans we have the right to feel frustrated, shows how we feel so passionately about Mariah's work. Something Mariah doesn't seem to be feeling currently. I am sick and tired of "she doesn't own you a dime" or "if you are pissed don't buy her music, she is so rich she would care". Well hello, I am sure she would care. This is a woman who insists on being introduced as "the best selling female artist of all time, more #1's than any other solo artist", she allegedly hung up on a radio interview when the interviewer mistakenly said 80 million albums sold instead of "over 200 million". Mariah is a legend, and the fact that now only people can say that "oh she sold 10000 more than JLo" is not fine by me. Whoever says that public exposure wouldn't translate into sales is delusional. I just want MC to atleast appear to care for an album she spent so many years perfecting. It seems like she just threw it out there and then is going out of her way to ignore anything to do with it. She is all over social media talking about life, but not one mention anything to do with the album, except for the occasional "Me. I am Mariah. Out now. Get your copy at iTunes."

Well I hope everything you said in your post turns out to be true. I am fine with her waiting until she looks her best to appear in front of the world as long as she ends up coming out and promoting the album. Like you mentioned, this album will decide what kind of deal she will get if she chooses to switch labels. All the best to Mariah. Here's to hoping this album and YDKWTD gets the recognition they deserve. Just to pass time, my next choice of singles would be Faded, Thirsty and MILG (in that order).

YDKWTD and the master plan (45,319)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Where on earth is this single plan going? There is still no official audio upload on Vevo, let alone a lyrics video and the elusive music video. Where is the music video she supposedly shot with Brett in Paris? And also where's the Thirsty promo? Why on earth was it just announced a single and then bam, everyone just ran back to their caves, hiding? This single had so much potential. Secondly, at this point I just want to pick up the phone, call up JD and ask him what is the master plan that he keeps talking about. Weeks back he said that there is a plan and in music industry it takes time to put it in motion and stuff and now again he is like there is a plan and sales will build up. Ok, cool, great, but what is the plan? Tell me JD, just tell me. *shakes JD*

I'm with you on this one. Although I didn't stop listening to the album just yet, but every time I listen to it, it bugs me because such a great album is just going unnoticed. To top of it, it now holds the label of being "Mariah's lowest selling non-holiday album". It's all because the lack of promotions. If people could hear the great songs in it, this album would be flying off the shelves. Sorry I am not one of those fans who say "I don't care if Mariah doesn't sell much, I just want her music" because I think Mariah will actually stop making music after a point if she continues to have declining sales and that's something I don't want. I don't think this lack of promotion is because of dembabies because she was all over the place during AI and dembabies were even younger then and needed more care than they probably do now. MC didn't need to be everywhere, she could have just atleast visited a couple of talk shows and do some live performances. Talk about the "journey", the album, the songs. Connect with us somehow. I don't believe she sees the messages of lambs complaining, because she is always on twitter, retweeting the good things fans are saying. So it bugs me more that she is just outright ignoring the fans who are asking her why she abandoned a project she claims is so close to her heart.
