Even if they're lipped, her whistles are one of the aspects of her voice that always improves over time. She can whistle. Come on, she still got the best control of whistle register in the industry. The "noises" are probably her avoiding notes, but then for me they're not noises, they're improvised staccato notes to decorate the song. Check out Always Be My Baby, that was the best performance in Macau. Nicely placed resonant belts and accurate improvisations. Her runs are slowly improving and her tone is the brightest it's been since 2010. That says a lot about her current vocal condition. And no, it's not lazy singing. If not hitting high notes all the time is called lazy singing, almost every singer will be called lazy. You need to have musicality to know where the notes fit. Also, avoiding higher notes is a wise move. As a singer, I can feel it if my voice will not be able to handle the upcoming high note I'm gonna hit, so to avoid cracking and shame, I gotta make out a melody out of thin air to compensate for the high note, be it a slightly lower note or a melismatic line or whatever. Lazy singing is if you lip an entire song or partially lip it and sings it half-assed in the live parts. It isn't wise to judge Macau based off one so-so performance. Plus why would you pick on her for her insecurity? Do you know how hard it is to know that your voice is waning? I lost a part of my range once and I literally panicked and did every single exercises and training to get back my former range. That's what Mariah's doing right now, and you'd be delusional not to notice her healthier, brighter tone, better belts (more balanced mix), and her vibrato is finally coming back (even in Vegas it's not as good). Stop picking her negatives. Instead, acknowledge her flaws and strengths all at once. (Friday 30 October 2015; 11:32)

I don't wanna see her go down tho, after all she's quite talented. I wanna see her artistry bloom and see her detach from Mariah's shadow. Macau (57,535) by darrian liu from taiwan It's amazing. Clear vocals, brighter tone (which means her voice is getting healthier) and control. Too bad that in Emotions and Hero, she didn't really let her voice rip. Always Be My Baby was a highlight, such confidence. She even added belts here and there. Whatever you're doing to help your voice, Mariah, keep on doing that. After all, 2005 vocals isn't that far away now. (Wednesday 28 October 2015; 8:42)

Re: Hello (57,504) (57,513) by darrian liu from taiwan Cry is an amazing song. I love how the vocals are so raw yet restrained, but it's not single-ready. The Art Of Letting Go also had the same problem. The only thing that both songs need to be single-ready is a catchier, rousing chorus. Hello had a chorus that sticks to your head after a listen. Mariah hit the home run with Almost Home but it was stuck with a flop movie. I know Mariah has at least 3 more #1s in her, she just needs to continue to strive to be in tip-top condition. Another "The Art of Letting Go" is what she needs, just with a catchier chorus. She could get at least a top 40 hit with it, I'm sure with that. (Monday 26 October 2015; 10:22)

If Mariah is not the one to bring back emotions and talent back to the top of the charts, Adele will be the one to do it. Hello's intro alone deserves a Grammy. Really clever to open the new era with "Hello, it's me" lyrics. Btw I heard that when there were rumors that Adele's 25 is gonna be released in September, almost every label changed their big albums' release dates. (Saturday 24 October 2015; 6:11)

Her lows aren't good but is improving rn, her mix is quite balanced (leaning to the headier side) but the problem is she never lifts her soft palate, making her nasal. Her upper belts are done with high larynx and closed off throat and she uses airy falsetto. Still a long long way from Mariah's glory days. I love her music though, been on the edge of my seat waiting for Focus to come out. (Friday 23 October 2015; 11:56)

Mariah of course can compare to or even be better than Aretha in aspects of her voice, like texture manipulation, octave leaps, melismas and ease in the upper belts but Aretha had the bigger voice, that's undeniable. Aretha's sheer volume would swallow Mariah's lighter voice because a light lyric will be much lighter and smaller than a dramatic. (Thursday 22 October 2015; 17:57)

We all know how she records her songs, doing takes until she felt that it was perfect. Try singing after a world tour full of difficult songs where you add your own higher belts and lower notes and intricate melismas and then recording an album where you have vocal slayers in it like Outside, Butterfly, etc. After her divorce, she drank a lot and hung around smokers which are detrimental to her voice. But personally, there are little flaws in the Daydream era technically in her voice. Her belts have less of that chesty power from her debut, which means her mix is more balanced, her placement is almost always on point (there was like very few misplaced notes, one of them in the E5 in I Don't Wanna Cry Tokyo Dome performance), her lows are solid and she improved her placement around C3. However she did start using the whispers. It could be one of the factor to her voice's decline. It is not recommended for people with nodules to sing airily like that. That could cause her nodules to thicken as it irritates the cords. Alcohol dries the voice and makes it harder to warm up. Technique wise, in 1997 it was intact. I think she knows that her voice has changed, that's probably why in 1997 when she belted, she would hold the mic so far away when in fact her voice is light as she is a light lyric coloratura soprano. In 1998 Divas Live, her voice was fine. Amazing lows and resonant well placed belts. The one in Chain of Fools were amazing. Keep in mind that in that show, Mariah's voice was the lightest. She strained in the last performancesas her voice can't be heard with the sheer voice of Aretha and others. Rainbow vocals happened because of lack of vocal discipline, in some recordings her voice sounded like she didn't warm up. 2003 had amazing vocals but her insecurity already implanted itself because I think she felt like her voice was waning. That would explain the wall of backing vocals in TTR. She did back out from Aretha's "help me lift it" out of respect, but she also knew that her lighter voice would be swallowed by Aretha'a big voice. Aretha's a Dramatic Soprano (if I'm not mistaken) and that's way bigger than a Light Lyric Coloratura Soprano. Mariah can resonate to a grand volume but no matter how good sheis, she would never be able to sound bigger than a Spinto or Dramatic Soprano with an equally good technique. I also heard #Beautiful in a famous boutique. When it was Daydream's anniversary, the radio played Always Be My Baby and Fantasy like a few times a day. There was even an event celebrating the 25 years of Mariah when #1 To Infinity came out and featured artists singing Mariah's songs. (Wednesday 7 October 2015; 9:46)
