How do I do that? Like I didn't think we can link it to YouTube.

I do lol. Nahh, Ariana's not too much. I just need to transpose the key because I'm a guy. Sure, do you want me to send it to your email or post it somewhere like my Instagram or anything? I'm planning to make a YouTube channel with my friend soon though. If I posted my first video I'll tell you guys.

Re: The Macau misrepresentation (57,569) (57,574) by darrian liu from taiwan
She was too insecure in that performance. She did back off, but I don't think the whistles are lipped. Even if they're lipped, her whistles are one of the aspects of her voice that always improves over time. She can whistle. Come on, she still got the best control of whistle register in the industry. The "noises" are probably her avoiding notes, but then for me they're not noises, they're improvised staccato notes to decorate the song. Check out Always Be My Baby, that was the best performance in Macau. Nicely placed resonant belts and accurate improvisations. Her runs are slowly improving and her tone is the brightest it's been since 2010. That says a lot about her current vocal condition. And no, it's not lazy singing. If not hitting high notes all the time is called lazy singing, almost every singer will be called lazy. You need to have musicality to know where the notes fit. Also, avoiding higher notes is a wise move. As a singer, I can feel it if my voice will not be able to handle the upcoming high note I'm gonna hit, so to avoid cracking and shame, I gotta make out a melody out of thin air to compensate for the high note, be it a slightly lower note or a melismatic line or whatever. Lazy singing is if you lip an entire song or partially lip it and sings it half-assed in the live parts. It isn't wise to judge Macau based off one so-so performance. Plus why would you pick on her for her insecurity? Do you know how hard it is to know that your voice is waning? I lost a part of my range once and I literally panicked and did every single exercises and training to get back my former range. That's what Mariah's doing right now, and you'd be delusional not to notice her healthier, brighter tone, better belts (more balanced mix), and her vibrato is finally coming back (even in Vegas it's not as good). Stop picking her negatives. Instead, acknowledge her flaws and strengths all at once.

Re: Ariana for MAC (57,551) (57,554) by darrian liu from taiwan
I have a feeling that Ariana's album will not hit #1. Her popularity has declined steeply after the whole donut/I hate America issue. I don't wanna see her go down tho, after all she's quite talented. I wanna see her artistry bloom and see her detach from Mariah's shadow. Her team shouldn't have tagged Ariana along Mariah's MAC deal. Mariah's gonna outshine her so much.

See the link to the awesome performance. Fave MC performance of 2015, it's up there with Thank God I Found You Las Vegas.

Macau (57,535) by darrian liu from taiwan
It's amazing. Clear vocals, brighter tone (which means her voice is getting healthier) and control. Too bad that in Emotions and Hero, she didn't really let her voice rip. Always Be My Baby was a highlight, such confidence. She even added belts here and there. Whatever you're doing to help your voice, Mariah, keep on doing that. After all, 2005 vocals isn't that far away now.

Thanks for explaining my point lol. I guess I shouldn't have called the movie a flop, but it was a bad movie. Nothing memorable about it.

Re: Hello (57,504) (57,513) by darrian liu from taiwan
Cry is an amazing song. I love how the vocals are so raw yet restrained, but it's not single-ready. The Art Of Letting Go also had the same problem. The only thing that both songs need to be single-ready is a catchier, rousing chorus. Hello had a chorus that sticks to your head after a listen. Mariah hit the home run with Almost Home but it was stuck with a flop movie. I know Mariah has at least 3 more #1s in her, she just needs to continue to strive to be in tip-top condition. Another "The Art of Letting Go" is what she needs, just with a catchier chorus. She could get at least a top 40 hit with it, I'm sure with that.

Re: Adele (57,492) (57,496) by darrian liu from taiwan
Hello is a wonderful song. And Adele is a gamechanger. If Mariah is not the one to bring back emotions and talent back to the top of the charts, Adele will be the one to do it. Hello's intro alone deserves a Grammy. Really clever to open the new era with "Hello, it's me" lyrics. Btw I heard that when there were rumors that Adele's 25 is gonna be released in September, almost every label changed their big albums' release dates.

Sorry typo lol. It was supposed to be "has". Aretha has been declining since the 1970s or 1980s.

Re: Ariana (not a reply) (57,475) (57,479) by darrian liu from taiwan
Ariana is a decent vocalist. Her lows aren't good but is improving rn, her mix is quite balanced (leaning to the headier side) but the problem is she never lifts her soft palate, making her nasal. Her upper belts are done with high larynx and closed off throat and she uses airy falsetto. Still a long long way from Mariah's glory days. I love her music though, been on the edge of my seat waiting for Focus to come out.

Re: VH1 Divas Live 1998 (57,449) (57,460) by darrian liu from taiwan
Patti had the bigger voice compared to Aretha. Both are dramatics though. Mariah of course can compare to or even be better than Aretha in aspects of her voice, like texture manipulation, octave leaps, melismas and ease in the upper belts but Aretha had the bigger voice, that's undeniable. Aretha's sheer volume would swallow Mariah's lighter voice because a light lyric will be much lighter and smaller than a dramatic.

Re: VH1 Divas Live 1998 (57,382) (57,438) by darrian liu from taiwan
My theory is simply that her voice was overworked. We all know how she records her songs, doing takes until she felt that it was perfect. Try singing after a world tour full of difficult songs where you add your own higher belts and lower notes and intricate melismas and then recording an album where you have vocal slayers in it like Outside, Butterfly, etc. After her divorce, she drank a lot and hung around smokers which are detrimental to her voice. But personally, there are little flaws in the Daydream era technically in her voice. Her belts have less of that chesty power from her debut, which means her mix is more balanced, her placement is almost always on point (there was like very few misplaced notes, one of them in the E5 in I Don't Wanna Cry Tokyo Dome performance), her lows are solid and she improved her placement around C3. However she did start using the whispers. It could be one of the factor to her voice's decline. It is not recommended for people with nodules to sing airily like that. That could cause her nodules to thicken as it irritates the cords. Alcohol dries the voice and makes it harder to warm up. Technique wise, in 1997 it was intact. I think she knows that her voice has changed, that's probably why in 1997 when she belted, she would hold the mic so far away when in fact her voice is light as she is a light lyric coloratura soprano. In 1998 Divas Live, her voice was fine. Amazing lows and resonant well placed belts. The one in Chain of Fools were amazing. Keep in mind that in that show, Mariah's voice was the lightest. She strained in the last performancesas her voice can't be heard with the sheer voice of Aretha and others. Rainbow vocals happened because of lack of vocal discipline, in some recordings her voice sounded like she didn't warm up. 2003 had amazing vocals but her insecurity already implanted itself because I think she felt like her voice was waning. That would explain the wall of backing vocals in TTR. She did back out from Aretha's "help me lift it" out of respect, but she also knew that her lighter voice would be swallowed by Aretha'a big voice. Aretha's a Dramatic Soprano (if I'm not mistaken) and that's way bigger than a Light Lyric Coloratura Soprano. Mariah can resonate to a grand volume but no matter how good sheis, she would never be able to sound bigger than a Spinto or Dramatic Soprano with an equally good technique. That's already inborn, you can't change it artificially.

Re: Collaboration (57,343) (57,345) by darrian liu from taiwan
Some said that the Luis Miguel duet didn't work out well because their voices didn't blend well and Mariah's voice is too high for him. Idk. I would love to hear her having a Lauryn Hill-flavored song, maybe with Tori Kelly or something. Tori's a great songwriter and an awesome singer.

Re: Article: Inside Mariah Carey's mental ward hell (57,316) (57,330) by darrian liu from taiwan
Radar is always after Mariah. It's ok though, after all, there's no such thing as bad publicity. Imagine Radar publishing an article bashing Mariah's future single (which I have a feeling will be really good) and made all people flock to the song, unintentionally making it a hit.

I live for that name lol. Dande Lyon, that's a stroke a genius right there. Btw, who else here were blown away the 4th episode of Empire? It left me speechless after a series of shocks. Who would've known that Ford girl would get Vernon's corpse in her car on the front seat?

Serves the man right. Now after Mariah's happy with some guy that treats her much better he's wanting to go back. That's really, like, a [censored] instinct though, idk why. My gf's ex wanted back with her after I'm together with her. That's a [censored] logic, really.

Re: My wishlist for additional singles from each album (57,264) (57,280) by darrian liu from taiwan
This is a really good topic. She got a lot of songs waiting to blow up in her albums [...].
1. Mariah Carey - Sent From Up Above
2. Emotions - To Be Around You
3. Music Box - Now That I Know
4. Daydream - Long Ago
5. Butterfly - Breakdown (as a full blown single, not just some airplay stuff, I heard that back in the day MTV got the video on heavy rotation)
6. Rainbow - How Much
7. Charmbracelet - Subtle Invitation (won't be a big hit, but imo would help with the image repair back then)
8. TEOM - To The Floor
9. E=MC2 - Migrate (obviously)
10. MOAIA - Standing O
11. MIAM - Faded

Re: Rihanna (57,205) (57,206) by darrian liu from taiwan
I think that's the one preventing Mariah from #1. We should go all out in supporting Mariah, buy, stream and promote it on social media, etc. Mariah's team have to think of a crazy good promo push and campaigns and really go all out. Once Mariah, Mariah's team and us lambily go together hand in hand, MC will have no problem in snatching a few more #1s.

Re: "MC on the radio" (57,132) (57,134) by darrian liu from taiwan
They play a lot of Mariah here. I heard Infinity (yes, Infinity) in a really famous bakery and in a huge supermarket. I also heard #Beautiful in a famous boutique. When it was Daydream's anniversary, the radio played Always Be My Baby and Fantasy like a few times a day. There was even an event celebrating the 25 years of Mariah when #1 To Infinity came out and featured artists singing Mariah's songs.

Re: New pic (57,028) (57,056) by darrian liu from taiwan
I don't really like the look, too costume-y for my liking. Imo this look ages her, I prefer her national daughters' day look with Monroe. More casual and makes her seem more relatable, which is important if she wanna win new fans. I like how she stirs up the looks though. Still waiting for Mariah in a jumpsuit, imagine how majestic she would look like.

Actually most say her vocal peak is in Daydream, while lyrically it's Butterfly. Daydream's buttery vocals are legendary.

Happy birthday to one of the most amazing album in the world. Still can't understand how Mariah can follow up this masterpiece with another masterpiece with the span of 2 short years. All I know is that she can do that because she's Mariah fucking Carey. Happy 20th bday, Daydream.

For a second I thought it was from 1999. Then I saw Roe. She's really getting slimmer and slimmer. She looked like she's just finished filming the Homecoming special.
