Christmas (112,248)
by TJ from Norway
| |
|
|
One of the biggest problem in 2025, beside social media, self diagnosis and allergies, is that people don't read the news. Everyone is just a Google search away from all kind of information, but doesn't know how to sort out what's real or not. I didn't know about the Sephora boycott because we don't have that chain here, I even missed out on the add thing.
We've said it before, and I say it again. I think Mariah have made some strange decisions over the years, singing for dictator and so on. I don't think it will prevent her from reaching the number one spot, but we never know.

Christmas (112,229)
by Dove from United States
| |
|
|
Times are bleak, but the holidays make life feel a little better. Personally, it seems like my whole life, someone has always been trying to ruin Christmas. I won't allow it. I'm sure they've had this partnership with Sephora for a while - probably since last year. Also, not everyone keeps up with current events.
I didn't even start watching the news until recently. It's bleak, and all the outlets are owned by the same people, so it's hard to know who to trust. Of course I vote, but I just read the booklet they send in the mail to decide who to vote for. I don't really trust mainstream media. A lot of people are like this. We focus more on doing our best at work and with our families than on draining our life force watching propaganda news channels.
Sephora paid for a nice little commercial for us. It was cute. People who shop there are still going to shop there. Whatever anyone does, there's always going to be something negative that can be said about it. Just let the woman live. She's been through enough. She's trying to give us a festive moment, and the bleakness happening right now is not her fault.
Her job is to give us a little escape from the bleakness - and she does that. The "Christmas is canceled" line, I took as a joke from her book, when her husband said Thanksgiving was canceled. It was a cute little skit, and people are making it out to be something it's not because they want someone to blame. But she's not the one.

There's a magic to the debut that was never recaptured (if I could recapture). Everyone always bleats on about working with Walter again, but I've always wanted her to collaborate with Ben Margulies again instead. Every Walter song had a similar style and structure. Same for the JD productions, and the C&C collabs. Every Carey/Margulies composition was unique and different to the one before it. The songs had a charm and innocence to them, genuine melodies and interesting arrangements. She's never had that with anyone since and it is, along with the exceptional voice, what makes the debut such a standout and my favourite.

You know I love myself some "Music Box", but in the context of your post, "Daydream", "Butterfly", and "The Emancipation of Mimi" have, in my opinion, a perfect mix of strong lyrics, soulful vocals, and fun energy.

I'd rather it be 3 albums we can erase from her discography than save. This is so tricky as MC's albums are good for different reasons. Like vocally I'd select the debut, Emotions and Merry Christmas. Lyrically it would be Butterfly, Charmbracelet and Memoirs. In terms of end to end enjoyment it'd be Music Box, Daydream and Emancipation. In terms of artistry it'd be Here For It All, Glitter, and Caution. So, yeh. All of them lol.

I would say that the "lambs" are probably the only ones still supporting her and her releases. The general public moved on a long time ago. I buy the singles and cds but I never play them, it's easier for me to stream, and so I do, almost daily. Lambs getting the blame and the hate for no reason. We are the only ones who care.

Absolutely. All the long time fans/lambs did buy her new music. So it's not because of "us" that it sold weaker than "Caution". Casual listeners don't care at all for her nowadays, that's it. The teens have there own "stars", so what's left are her long time fans. I also like "HFIA" better than "Caution". Yeah, maybe a gospel or jazz album could generate more listeners because it's a special genre.

I would rather have something from the vault than another HFIA. Release the demotape, the version of All in My Mind that she teased us with during covid. There are more songs from that time that I would love to listen to. Release Someone's Ugly Daughter. That is an album I definitely would play over and over again. Release an album with old cover songs. Release more live stuff on videos. I know there are a lot of them.

Lighty, I've never posted before but specifically wanted to thank you for the wonderful feeling of nostalgia that you've gifted me in your post about the early Mariah web days.
I created MariahWorld.com (formerly FantasyLand) in February 1998 on Geocities, in fact. I sadly lost the site suddenly one day in about 2004 - the web host shut down without notice and I was unable to protect the domain from being pilfered. It was an upsetting time for me, having spent so much time on that site, so it was touching that you remembered.
Still adore Mariah with all my heart, a fan since the beginning. What a wonderful journey we've all shared.
Shout out to Eric for his endless efforts with this site, which has been around since that era. There was no better discography. Truly special. Also to any other original webmasters out there. Anderz, Manda and Derek from MCR/Mariah.net, the whole crew from MariahDaily, Liz from Absolute Mariah, Britt from Visions of a Daydream, Luis from 100% Mariah/MariahOnline (breathtaking UX design), and Benny whose site name I can't recall. Just to name a few. Special people and wonderful memories.
Lots of love to you from Australia.

If I'm not mistaken, they were called Mariah's 3: MCArchives, MariahDaily, and MariahHero. Eric probably remembers that better. [Webmaster: The third one was MariahConnection.]
MariahHero was the first to go, the webmaster got upset because Mariah toured but skipped his country. Back then, that site was a goldmine for MP3s and media.
Years later, MariahDaily shut down too. Their news section was amazing great, but their message board never took off because you couldn't speak freely or say anything remotely critical about Mariah, so it turned into a total snooze fest.
Then we had this site, which had the best discography archive, singles, international releases, everything. Eric eventually stopped updating once Mariah stop releasing physical singles. I don't remember all the details, but I recall Eric used to release a magazine-style collection of Mariah photos until he got hit with a cease and desist, and that was that.
MCArchives outlived them all because this board has always kept it real. Sure, we're a little dysfunctional at times, but there's always been a balance. Plenty of people have tried to turn this place into another "MariahDaily" echo chamber, but thankfully, they never succeeded. If it were for the "yass queens" or the oversensitive ones, we wouldn't be here.
What's kept this board great is that we've always been able to have different opinions. Back when fans first started noticing Mariah's voice changing, and many were deep in denial, there were basically two groups here: the UK Gang and the US Gang. Moderation was minimal, so blood was constantly spilled on the board. Some fans were so blinded by devotion that even when Mariah's boobs finally came out of the closet became they were impossible to hide, they still swore they were so big due to her wearing push-up bras. Eventually most of those fans came to their senses when those push up bras didn't seem to work for their own bosoms.
Those were the days.
