About Ronnie from California: Lamb. Enough said.

2 Day reflection (83,813) by Ronnie from California
Well, I love it and I'm obsessed. It seems like she did everything right on this track. I somewhat believe that this song was constructed with the "bridge" people in mind. We all know Mariah is a genius. And other than us, there are three people in the general public: the ones that hate her, the ones who don't know anything about her, and the bridge people. The bridge people are the ones that will listen to us but are not invested enough to care. They are the people who are willing to do the reactions but don't make detailed commentary. On the grander of schemes, the bridge people have more power to sway the others.
I think the song is geared toward them. Mariah strategically wrote the lyrics in a manner that draws attention to her layering techniques. I have already heard people say that they haven't heard music layered like this in a long time. I think she stacked it to a complexity that is simple enough to not get lost but intricate enough to make them feel smart, enlightened, or engaged. This is especially true at the end, where the ad libs are subtly repeated twice, again helping the listener pay attention to her classic decision to ad lib at the end. The adlibs, as well as once during the "bulldozed my heart", are the only vocals that are in chest. After repeating the song a million times, it's so satisfying to hear her full voice. It makes me crave the next single. The clean edit someone previously posted is probably similar to the version that would be on the radio if it catches on. Even more than profanity, that clean version also sounds radio friendly. It's shorter and happier without losing its vibe. The Jamaican melody may also be kid/family friendly (idk what the justification for this is, all I know is that the industry loves Jamaican influences and it appeals to pre-teens) which expands her marketability (kind of similar to how Cardi has singles geared to appeal to families and kids).
Buzz single is the correct adjective. I have no idea if the song will catch on. At the moment it has not but those "how bout you" lines are mighty addicting, so it might not be able to be contained much longer. I even caught my mom and sister (who are unorthodox haters?) every once in a while singing that exact line.

I cannot be 100% certain since it isn't fully released but it may be that Mariah sampled Porter Robinson's Goodbye to the World. If it's true I think her head space is aggressive. I'm estatic.

Re: GTFO snips (83,698) (83,706) by Ronnie from California
I'm also very sorry that I made so many false assumptions about how you felt about Mariah. That was completely wrong of me and I apologise. I'm not making excuses for myself but much of that rant stems from so many lambs being negative towards this release. I have a fan chat of another small group of lambs who are much younger. Though they are definitely more immature and more childish they seem to understand that it's music and need not be sport. It may not be as prevalent but there are angry lambs there, just like twitter, blogs, everywhere. Again just call us naive, but we should all be celebratory - her last studio album was released in 2014. Mariah isn't making money anymore, and it seems like record labels have pulled out. Any promo or studio expenses are probably cut so low that she needs to be paying for it herself. Cherish some of these last moments because though she's rich, no one can afford to keep releasing albums. I don't see why someone would torture themself by listening to what they presume to be her degrading her legacy.

Re: GTFO snips (83,698) (83,704) by Ronnie from California
While I think that excessive profanity could easily degrade a song, album, or both, let us try not to over-criticize. I know it is in the song's title but it seems like she usually keeps vulgar language to a minimal (I trust that she will stay true to this). She cusses from time to time, but we have never heard a Mariah song plagued by repeated and overpowering f-bombs. I am more upset when she misuses words for the sake of having "incessantly unorthodox" lyrics (see what I did there?). I like when she incorporates words like "martyr" but only when done so seamless that it feels rights. Hopefully the rest of the song constains interesting lyrical choices that may distract the less-than-pleased general public and her hard-to-please stans. While this is somewhat my first album release, I may be too inexperienced to not find myself anxiously awaiting this next era. Even if this single is not to my liking, I'm glad that she is releasing a new album. Jumping on the fan-train so late in her career leaves me with so little primary experience that I would rather cherish however many eras left rather than letting them pass because I'm being stubborn, egotistical, harsh, or still waiting for 90's Mariah to magically reclaim her rightful place in the industry. I also try to keep in mind that this is one song on an entire album, and I'm almost guaranteed to have a few songs that I will enjoy considering how many genres she touches on a single album. To be disappointed, angry, frustrated, or anything like that about her creative decisions (or lack thereof) seems unhealthy. I don't have to think everything she does is perfect, but I also never felt like her imperfections affect my perception of her music or my own peace. Who knows, maybe I'm just naive? But I don't feel like this needs to be everything I want it to be. I'm excited just lettinng it happen.

Re: GTFO snips (83,690) (83,693) by Ronnie from California
I think it is a little reasonable to suggest that her kids may forgive their mom for saying "a bad word" when they are older. But who knows maybe the public cares that she uses profanity just as much as you do? The negativity on here can be depressing.

GTFO snips (83,683) by Ronnie from California
I just heard a snippet (possibly altered) of GTFO. I'm very glad that the portion of the track I did hear sounds like she is not going to follow the trends like her counterparts. It's a bit unexpected tbh, especially for a song that has been already been labeled as an immature, unnecessary diss track. I hope all of the lambs keep an open mind. If not, then what's the point of even listening to the song upon its release.

Re: How Bout You (G.T.F.O) (83,662) (83,663) by Ronnie from California
Plus we do not even know the significance. There are multiple directions the song can go. One potential angle is acknowledgement of what the public thinks about her. Or directed as a diss like most lambs are probably assuming.

Re: Listening session (83,482) (83,488) by Ronnie from California
It appears that the album is wrapping up as we speak. I love all you lambs, but sometimes we can be overtly pessimistic. I understand that those emotions are a response to the lack of attentive care for the passed years (or even decades according to some) upon Mariah's doing - or rather lack of doing. I also understand that ciritcism can be a necessary agent for growth and change. Some critiscisms generate enlightening conversations. I also understand that delusional, naive defense of the "infallible" Mariah rubs some lambs the wrong way. But at the end of the day we all love and wish the best for her. I'm glad that we are getting an album sooner than most expected. I hope that this makes some lambs lighten up just a wee bit. Hopefully this album is strong or at least a step in the right direction. Even if this album is rusty, she can make another one. Let's just keep the positive and realistic vibes.

Re: VMA's (83,429) (83,435) by Ronnie from California
God forbid we give any credit to Jennifer. She had triple the energy of any of the other performers. With that being said, we should have appointed Ashanti as the presenter of the Vanguard on the stage. So she could hand JLo the award right before she hands her an ass-whooping.

VMA's (83,427) by Ronnie from California
Well they happened, and they were undoubtedly disappointing. Nicki's performance was lackluster and a mess. She rapped to 3 songs with a backdrop that went along with her Egyptian Queen theme. The arena where she performed was filled with a high energy crowd. Most likely, her audience was a mixture between Barbs and paid re-actors. Other than that? it was decent in comparison to the rest of the performances. It seems as though Nicki is no longer "in", I wonder if she will understand MC's perspective more.
Ariana performed "God is a woman" while setting the performance in an all-woman recreation of The Last Supper. There was choreography and some pretty good live vocals. While she normally delivers, Ariana didn't feel present because she was thinking about her choreography. Maybe no one has told her that if she is gonna do choreography she needs to lip sync - does she still think Beyonce sings and dances at the same time? Haha. She ended the performance with a final stance and bow alongside some of her most important women. She was probably the most entertaining that night (for my taste).
Jennifer performed her giant ass off. She honestly showed them why the earlier generations of superstars gave it 110%. I have never been a fan of dancing since I don't think that talent is nearly as impressive as an unbelievable voice - Mariah, Whitney, Aretha, etc. But if you are gonna do a dance performance, she is a good standard for how clean it should be. On the red carpet Ashanti said she hoped JLo would perform one of the songs she wrote "for" her. They cut her off because of how messy the situation got back in the early 2000's. Heaven forbid we villainize Jennifer on the night she received the MJ Vanguard Award.

"Ain't No Way" is by far my favorite Aretha song I have life-changing memories associated with it. If Mariah covered it in a tribute I would probably have a nervous breakdown.

Re: Playback signals (83,116) (83,129) by Ronnie from California
Really? I never knew what to think about this topic. I don't see Mariah as the type that would have some sort of signal with a crew receiving the ok to play the track. I always saw Mariah as someone who would lip systematically. A signal just seems unreliable and messy. It could be that whenever she is about to lip something, she attempts to make it seem live by putting her finger in her ear, squinting, and partially covering her face. "Hey Alexa, play We_Belong_Together_Climax.mp3."

Re: Something is in the works (82,993) (82,995) by Ronnie from California
With the better footage surfacing, I have a better understanding of how much of it was lip synced. WBT climax is lipped. Also wanted to correct myself, Fantasy still has heavy lipping and she was actually caught, she tried to compensate by doing those adlibs I mentioned. I'm staying completely objective here, so it is up to you lambs to decide whether or not it was adequate. I'm so excited for this album. I want some tea to be spilled.

Something is in the works (82,992) by Ronnie from California
Mariah played it relatively safe for the opening night of The Butterfly Rerurn. But I'm so glad that she is genuinely belting now and the entire approach has been redirected. Instead of hoping that big vocal moments would compensate for her lack of control, she now is making more thoughtful decisions. She also kept the lipping to a minimal. I am gonna point out some things I noticed that should be recognized:
Mariah made a grand/upbeat entrance with the first section of the concert.
Fly Away - a great choice for an opening interlude, it was smart and a move straight for the Daydream Tour
Honey - safe with some exciting, new vocal runs
Shake It Off - I thought it was more tasteful approach to her diva antics that some people do pay to see. The whole morror skit wasn't cringey and it did make sense for SIO. A tasteful rendition of SIO.
Make It Happen - the safest she played out of all of them, her upper belting register was a little shaky and raspy so she used it sparingly
*costume change*
This seems to be the dark 90-95 section. She even changed into a black dress.
Fantasy - it had so many ad libs and maybe new prerecorded vocals, although if it was live, she killed it. She really wanted everyone to know she was singing live. Icannot confirm it until I find a better recording but it all seems to be mostly live. The beat even sounded off because she was a little behind most of the time.
Always Be My Baby - she needs to stop bringing Roc and Roe out for this one
Vision of Love - her runs were so fast you notice that her voice is going faster than her head. She would do the run and follow it with awkward and misplaced "sustained" notes. I'm glad she has gotten back into the groove of knowing how difficult VOL should be (especially musicality - wise)
Emotions - she went harder for the intro this time. She did a modified 12" club mix intro. I guess it was to attract attention with the momentum from Drake's Emotionless. It was a smart PR move because she gave it her all. Not perfect but no one in the game could do it as close as she did. After that it was a standard Emotions performance.
*costume change*
The Bridge
Beautiful - this was a smart move. They changed the "walking through the audience" song from ABMB to Heartbreaker to now Beautiful. This was a great choice since she went through the audience during Miguel's verse instead of standing there awkwardly waiting for the first half of the song to finish
I'll Be There - it felt out of place
One Sweet Day - eh, I think she had some great vocal moments but I can never tell with all the egos on stage
Can't Let Go - it was apparently the showstopper of the night. She performed the hell out of it and rearranged the instrumental beautifully. This rendition was also smart. If we all recall, In 91/92 MC has performed the climax in its original length and a shorted-halved version. Last night it seemed like she sings the first half attempts the whistle and if it doesn't happen (which it didn't) the band improvises and she sings the second half of the climax with a second chance to whistle (or play a prerecorded one). Pretty smart imo. But either way MC attempted a whistle live which is more than I was hoping for.
Can't Take That Away - she was shaky but it was so nice to hear her sing this song again. Straight from Rainbow with less lipping. In fact this entire tour is being approached like Rainbow.
My All - surprisingly, not her best, but again she gave up bigger vocals moments in order to be more skillful. My All was always a moment because she would include many vocal dramatics.
*costume change*
The Climax
It's Like That - a pretty solid version yet again
Love Hangover/Heartbreaker - holy crap Love Hangover sounded unbelievably great and sexy. Heartbreaker felt a little out of place though
Touch My Body - always a crowd pleaser when she gets to do her whole campy bed-segment
We Belong Together - her tone sounded amazing the entire song, despite having very little lipping, she still used a pre recorded climax
Overall, she played it safe because she cut the lipping down to a substantial degree. At the same time she can do difficult vocal acrobatics (like emotions intro) but she is sparing them. I don't think she should "go ham" every concert like she has been trying since 2014. Instead it seems like she is saving her voice for promo, like back in the 90's. I enjoy many of the choices she made. I am intrugued by whatever her next moves are.
This is the MC I have stood beside this entire time.

Statute of limitations (82,707) by Ronnie from California
I just came across a video where the commentators made an interesting point. They were commenting on The Guardian interview, and mentioned that there have been many whispers about MC and Tommy Mottola. What I found interesting is that they claimed that the statute of limitations on the divorce are up. While I would only take this with a grain of salt since much of their information seemed misconstrued, it's still an interesting point to explore.
I have done some digging, but the statute of limitations is the time period in which legal action could be taken in regards to a manner. If their restriction was 20 years, this would be the first hear she could speak about the details with Mottola's hands tied. He has already tried to apoligize, saying that their relationship was "inapporopite" but maybe there is something darker going on. Keep in mind, that apology is before the Me Too movement, so the topic was more taboo. There is a possibility that this album may be very insightful about the crazy things that go down in Hollywood. She would know more than anyone since she was married to the elite.

Re: Slipping Away (82,657) (82,671) by Ronnie from California
But "Long Ago" had the same message. She has never given a clear answer in regards to why it never made the album. It could have been recorded after the album was released and attached as a B-side to ABMB. Which also means the song may have been recorded during the Daydream/Butterfly transition - giving it that crazy sultry tone with resonance.
"Slipping Away" is incredible. Not much can come close to Mariah blending a gospel choir with an R&B low-bass. The choir of her layered voices makes an appearance as well and I can always appreciate the amount of work that goes into creating it. The first half of the song is beautifully written with intertwining texture shifts and seamless melisma. The second half is yet again another classic example as to why MC is one of the multi-melody, layering goddesses. Plus, anything that is D5 and above has earth-shattering resonance. But even more than all of this, the way she sings "you're so farrrr" absolutely breaks my heart each time. I feel her fear but I don't know where to place it. She must have been so afraid of having to do it all on her own, but it was worth it, we got many legendary tracks from independence.

Re: Meet and Greet questions (82,314) (82,315) by Ronnie from California
Well that's just the culture we live in nowadays. A lot of celebrities are idolized. So when opportunity presents itself, a solid number of fans would be willing to pay a lot for not much. While I would want Mariah to compensate for the exorbitant price tag on her meet&greet, I think it would be foolish to actually meet her at such a cost. I don't place blame on Mariah, I place it on the consumer. MC is a nice gal and does really thoughtful things for her fans, but meet&greets are not one of them.

Re: New album title (80,516) (80,522) by Ronnie from California
Though it would be a bit incohesive, an idea I would be interested in being carried out would be an album titled "Legacy" and each of the 12 songs represented each of the major 12 albums she has created that already established her as a legend. Maybe a 13th track just for fun. I think it would be the right direction. Though it may come off as a little arrogant, it's what Mariah needs - a little arrogance. I know people believe she is arrogant, which is untrue, but any other legend, Whitney, Prince, Michael, Janet, Madonna would have put their foot down and said "I am a legend" a long time ago. A "Legacy" album would make a statement, "I do not need to create more music because I have done more than enough to establish myself. Anything from this point onwards is for the sake of my own sanity." Plus, when people like certain tracks, they would possibly go and maybe listen to the original correlating album. Deluxe versions may have 3 bonus tracks, 1 for Merry Christmas (a retro approach to Christmas), 1 for MC2Y (a classic Hollywood R&B mix), and 1 for the incredible remixes she has done.

Re: Will we ever see a new album? (80,404) (80,413) by Ronnie from California
I definitely disagree with Mariah not being revolutionary. While the R&B, hip hop genres did some of the things she would later refine - Mariah (without a doubt) introduced a signature over an entire wave of music. Many girls have tried after 1997 but Mariah's layering and texture manipulation is beyond revolutionary, it is not able to be replicated. Her level of polish and intracicies is loved by actual music lovers, so undoubtedly her influence will shape the industry because those that work in such an industry should at least love it (or so I hope). What made Mariah so revolutionary was her work ethic that we know is required to make such gorgeous, layered tracks. No one since Mariah has been able to achieve her ability to make so many different melodies fall and melt into one another. It will continue to inspire generations but I think most girls inspired by her music want to do their own thing and not 100% be a carbon copy of her (since Mariah herself promotes for innovation).
An example of Mariah using complex melodies in such a way would be Unforgettable (Acoustic Remix). By far the most slept on (by lambs) of her recent song releases. That original track was very choppy. So many things happening all at once which is why the regular remix didn't do as well. But the acoustic is much better. From the very beginning of the track we are greeted by one of the sloppiest runs I have ever heard her do. It was a reference to the original remix - then the music strips away and it sounds cleaner. As the first half of the song is going she is hitting the ad libs in the right places but also the wrong places. It begins to get frustrating because it sounded lazy. But then with 4 different melodies going, Mariah somehow managed to use her whistle register to navigate through the labyrinth of so many moving particles. During the second half, not only does she navigate though, she places each whistle at certain moments that almost change the "color" of the piece with each shift in frequency. She even uses 3 different melodies (all at different speeds), showing that she still has the skill of musicality, even when her voice is not there that day.

Re: Butterfly vinyl (78,357) (78,368) by Ronnie from California
It is mainly for collectors. I don't believe there were unreleased original songs, but she probably has a few remixes up her sleeve. Regardless, this is an event that should be purchased on an individual basis - rather than leaked over the internet for mass consumption. This little celebration are for those who know Mariah the most, I don't think releasing unreleased tracks would be fitting for the 20th anniversary.
