Mariah's Minneapolis concert March 13 (88,249) by John from USA
Anybody going? Looking for people to go with, because all my friends here aren't necessarily big Mariah fans.

Re: CNN on Mariah's concert in Saudi Arabia (87,821) (87,836) by John from USA
It's on the news because it's in fashion to be an internet woke activist and social justice warrior nowadays. It's the new in thing, and while SJWs, call out culture, and outrage culture are giving attention-seeking fame their shot at fame and self-gratification at being "woke" (whether they consciously or unconsciously recognize that) they are sadly, the enemies of humanity and will destroy human society eventually. If you are not outraged, then you are callous and insensitive, apparently, so better find something to be outraged about. Sad.

Joachim: Until reparations are bestowed upon the Sami and Kven communities in Norway, I would hope that you would also lead in discouraging Mariah from ever performing in your country.

Much research has been conducted on Sami and Kven communities over the years. However, little has been done on the long-term effects of the government repressive policies on these ethnic groups. The Sami people live with a heritage of repression and abuse, and for many Sami it is about shame, about lack of language and visibility, mental heath and taboos. To a great extent, the same goes for the Kvens, the descendants of 19th century Finnish immigrants.

Mariah: Please only perform in a perfect country with perfect people, because we. will. all. be. triggered. SMH.

Re: Okay hooold up now (87,786) (87,788) by John from USA
By your reasoning and train thought: If you've ever watched or condoned Mariah performing in Australia, then you are part of the problem too.

There are at least 250 known and mapped out massacres of Australian aborigines that occurred from 1780s all the way to as recent as the 1920s by white folk. To this day, they remain displaced, marginalized, underrepresented, and neglected to the point that they have become "fringe dwellers" in their own native country.

Please stop Mariah from ever going to Australia, where the murder and oppression of Australian aborigines has occurred for almost three centuries, and where they still remain a neglected demographic by the ruling class (who can afford Mariah's concert tickets, BTW).

Virtual heroism makes people feel so good about themselves, doesn't it? If you wanna learn more about the current issues Australian aborigines struggle with here is a link.

I'm going to suggest that as part of our battle to address the needs of Australian aborigines, we should discourage Mariah from performing in Australia from now until the day the white conquerors leave Australia to its rightful owners.

Re: Mariah please don't do it (87,773) (87,784) by John from USA
Please don't go to Spain, either, Mariah. Spain doesn't want to give Catalan separatists the independence they have been clamoring for.

Please don't also perform in my country, the US, too, because the US is involved in an illegal war in the Middle East, and still has not given back the land to Native Americans.

Please don't go to: [insert country you are currently outraged about here] because of [insert scandalous clutch-your-pearls reason here] then express how good you feel about yourself "speaking up" and "changing the world".

I swear, the level of hypocrisy and self-righteousness here. It's like stepping in SJWs-R-Us.

Article: Mariah urged by activists to cancel Saudi Arabia concert (87,761) by John from USA
Can these [...] establish exactly how preventing Mariah from performing in Saudi Arabia actually improve the lives and social status of women in that country? Are they actually doing anything concrete and tangible to uplift the lives of women in Saudi Arabia or is this all virtual grandstanding and bullying to feel like heroes? This world is full of holier than though [...] who have no inclination to actually get off their butts and do real life-changing work for their supposed cause, I swear.

Re: Saudi Arabia (87,704) (87,707) by John from USA
Agree. I don't get what's despicable either. KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) is the official name of Saudi Arabia. One can refer to Saudi Arabia as "the Kingdom", much like one can refer to the US as "the States" in regular parlance. She's performing in the country for an event, not for the royalty there.

Re: Sexual harassment (81,906) (81,909) (81,919) by John from USA
If Mariah needs witnesses, we can all volunteer to stand witness against Stella. She is such a bad influence on Mariah, and ruined her career and took it to new career lows by having her take one bad project choice after another. If anything, she owes Mariah and should be the one sued.

Billboard Hot 100: the tide is turning (74,903) by John from USA
Something "weird" is going on in the Hot 100. The current one is dominated by male artists, with only one female artist in the top 30. Interesting development. Maybe Mariah should take that chance and once and for all take this seriously. Lady Gaga's latest single looks like it's gonna flop. Katy Perry's Slave to the Rhythm is flopping, is getting a lot of backlash for her latest antics and is being slapped left and right on IG and twitter as a has-been. (Serves her right for shading Mariah when she has achieved less than 0.00000001% of what Mariah has. I think Mariah needs to once again nurture that gift that helped turn her life around, and figure out what brought her where she is now. Will Mariah finally take that chance, reinvent her sound, and fill that female void in the music industry?)

Help needed re: Mariah covers album (72,903) by John from USA
Someone posted a link to a guy singing acoustic versions of tracks from Mariah's Butterfly album, and had a free download link to it from his website. I lost all data from my old laptop and now am trying to get the songs back but sadly forgot what that artist's name was or the link to his website. Anybody remember this artist and have the download link to his Mariah cover album? Maybe the webmaster might know? Thanks in advance.

Tour with Lionel Ritchie (70,213) by John from USA
Lionel Richie and Diana Ross sang the original (and arguably more successful) version of "Endless Love". The late Luther Vandross and Mariah would later remake the song in the 90s. Do you think we will see a Lionel and Mariah duet of EL on their tour? I wonder if Mariah can still sing this song live. Anyways, I've always loved this live rendition from Luther and Mariah.

Mariah's weight (51,374) by John from USA
My wish is for Mariah to lose weight, not just for aesthetic reasons, but for health reasons. She developed GDM (Gestational Diabetes Mellitus) when she was carrying Roc and Roe. This is an established risk factor for developing diabetes mellitus in the future. Diabetes is a terrible disease with multiple microvascular and macrovascular complications if left uncontrolled. Once you are diabetic, you're diabetic for life. My hope is for Mariah to stay healthy and happy for the rest of her life.

Vegas residency (49,030) by John from USA
Has anyone actually "bounced back" from a Vegas residency and achieved mainstream success once again, or is a Vegas residency a last ditch effort for stars to still bank some considerable money before their shine totally dims out?

Mariah may not have a "torch song" (48,693) by John from USA
When you are an artist/songwriter with an extensive and diverse catalog such as Mariah's, it is hard to just handpick a single song and name it her "torch song". Anybody who has heard of Celine Dion, would quickly say that her torch song would be "My Heart Will Go On", even non-fans (of which I am) and casual fans. With regards to Whitney, ask anyone on the street and "I Will Always Love You" will almost always be the song mentioned. With Mariah, however, ask the casual listener, and it may be "Hero" or "WBT", ask an old school fan, or heck even Snoop, and they'll probably say "Vision of Love". Still, during the winter holidays, when Mariah is all over the airwaves year-after-year, "AIWFCIY" will be her torch song. For those fans who love the hip-hop side of her, it would be "Fantasy (ODB Remix)". Now, isn't it amazing that this amazing musical talent cannot simply be defined by one single (torch) song?

Do MIAMTEC's songs speak of Mariah's marital woes? (46,392) by John from USA
In light of the news about Mariah and Nick's breakup, listening to her CD now, I do feel like she is writing about her marital issues with Nick.
Cry. ("Maybe I should've held out a little bit longer. But I was seduced by you, and I didn't know enough. Truly too enchanted to disregard the words you said to make me yours." And "I should've known that you would tire of me.")
Faded ("I call your name, baby, subconsciously. Always somewhere but you're not there for me." And "You come and you go. You're just an echo.")
Thirsty ("You used to be Mister all about me. Now you're just thirsty for celebrity. Best thing that happened to your ass was me. Pull down them Tom Fords, and act like you see.")
You Don't Know What To Do ("Cause you wanna leave, then you'd never go, imma set you free boy, baby, you don't know.")
Camouflage ("No not a day goes by. No no no. When I don't wonder inside. If you feel the way you used to feel. I camouflage my tears. And you wear your disguise. And 'round and 'round I go.")
Even the remake One More Try, may have been selected in part to empart the same message ("When you were just a stranger. And I was at your feet. I didn't feel the danger. Now I feel the heat.") Makes me appreciate Mariah and this CD more. Mariah poured her heart and soul out for this project, and I love it even more now.

Mariah's next CD: They Call The Wind Mariah (46,353) by John from USA
On a lighter note: What do you think about calling Mariah's next CD by the same song that her mother named her after (with a twist of course, using Mariah, instead of the original Maria)?

Don't view Katy's video (45,753) by John from USA
I would just caution everyone from buying into this controversy Katy has concocted. This is nothing more than just a trick to get views for her video as they now do count into Billboard's Hot 100 charts. It also generates more buzz for her track, and more buzz usually translates to more sales. I for one, will never view this video. Katy will be gone in another 2 years or so anyway, trust.

"Thirsty" is thirsting for some "Long Ago" off of "Daydream" vocals (43,554) by John from USA
I like the song, although it will take a few more listens before I fully get into it. Oddly enough the song's dynamics and tempo changes remind me of Long Ago from the Daydream CD. To me that song was vocal perfection (as is virtually all of Daydream's cuts). "Thirst" plus "Long Ago"-style vocals would've constituted major slayage.

#Beautiful (I Knew You Were Waiting) Remix (38,305) by John from USA
I was hoping Mariah would incorporate George Michael and Aretha's "I Knew You Were Waiting" for her #Beautiful remix. Just an idea, since I love both songs so much.

Mariah's voice (38,194) by John from USA
When Mariah first broke through into the scene with VOL, I knew I would be a fan for for life. I used to say (okay, more like brag to others): the only limit to what Mariah can do with her voice is her imagination. While that may not be the case anymore these days, we will always have her best vocal performances during her prime.

Gilbert - Re: album cover (38,167) by John from USA
If given a chance, I would have to redo Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel's album cover. I've always imagined the album cover looking like this: Picture Mariah sprawled on the bedroom floor face down (head tilted so that the right side of her face is showing, of course), mascara tear on one eye, her back bearing broken wings. Around her are torn pages of a diary as well as old pictures from her past. Too literal? Well, it's still better than the actual cover, which I think totally misrepresented the album. Come to think of it, I don't quite remember any album cover with multiple pictures of the same artist that had actually been successful.

It's Like That vs. #Beautiful - Billboard Hot 100 chart trajectory (38,166) by John from USA
I found ILT's Hot 100 chart trajectiory: 53 (debut) - 36 - 24 - 20 - 19 - 20 - 16 (peak) - 16 - 17 - 19 - 24 - 30 - 36 - 27 - 33 - 45 - 51 - 53 - 64 - 66 (last appearance on the chart). ILT had a 20-week run on the BB Hot 100 charts. Now, compare that with #Beautiful's trajectory so far: 24 (debut) - 20 - 20 - 17. Thoughts?

#Beautiful (total weekly single sales question) (38,165) by John from USA
With two fairly similar versions of #Beautiful (original) at #19 and #Beautiful (explicit) at #125 at the moment, I wonder: What would the total single sales be (and approximate iTunes position if you count them together)? I know that remixes, if sufficiently different from the original, Billboard usually counts them as two different singles. This was done pretty much after the sales for JLo's I'm Real and its remix (that was totally different in form and composition) were credited together, propelling I'm Real into the Billboard Hot 100. Now, the two versions of #Beautiful are virtually the same, with the exception of the muted "a" and "f" words. Just wondering.
