About John from USA:

"When You Believe" 25th anniversary coming soon (103,229) by John from USA
Let's take time to remember this song, at a time when there is seemingly very little we can truly believe in and hold on to. I hope this song gets a rerelease with the Oprah live version added as a CD single.

Re: Burning bridges (96,713) (96,718) by John from USA
Good for you realizing that 10 years ago. It was not until about 3 years ago that I realized the grave mistake I was doing, cutting ties with people that I feel would have still mattered to me to this day.

And yeah, Mariah also owes me several minutes of my life back for listening, and trying desperate to like Crapfinity and I Don't (Wanna Know This Song).

Burning bridges (96,702) by John from USA
Do you guys think Mariah has a tendency to burn bridges when slighted? Or are all the relationships (professional and/or personal) that she had severed ties with all justifiable?

I ask because I used to be like that, but realized later on that life is too short, have a longer leash with the people around me, and to treasure relationships as much as possible.

Panties Perpetually In A Bunch (95,003) by John from USA
No other person on here seems to be upset about everything and have all the time in the world to pick fights than Andrew. Seems having arguments here is what makes him feel alive and find meaning in his sad existence.

I hope someone should gather all of Andrew's comments on here and make a compilation of sorts. It should be entitled...

"Panties Perpetually In A Bunch": A compilation of comments on mcarchives.com from none other than Andrew, a.k.a. UK's Male Karen.

They Don't Know Me - demo song from MOAIA (94,256) by John from USA
Does anyone remember this demo song from the Memoirs era? All we have is The Dream's demo and the lyrics still definitely need reworking (for instance: the opening line says: It's 8AM in the morning, lols). It has a lot of potential though, and Mariah's breathy vocals would fit right in for the verses. I just wish Mariah had recorded this. For those who don't remember, here is the link.

Re: Skydiving (94,251) (94,255) by John from USA
Thanks for the link. That's the longest version I've heard so far. I think sonically, Skydiving may even fit Caution as well.

And you totally missing the point is just proof of how much of an idiot you are. Such an enigma indeed.

Yes, deary. That was a plant, because I know you cannot resist the tasty morsel that is correcting someone for their error.

At any rate: my sincerest apologies for that atrocity of a grammatical error. It will definitely be life-changing being corrected by the Inventor of the English language himself.

Love yourself... then love yourself even more. It will certainly make your existence better (for you, unfortunately not for the rest of humanity).

Mmmmkay, sweetheart? Happy?

Re: The pandemic (93,286) (93,290) by John from USA
"Again, millions of people are about to die. And we are discussing the *benefits* to Mariah? Did IQ's just drop drastically since I last checked in?"

Can't the same exact thing be said to you? Millions of people are about to die, and [you're] on here policing posts and picking petty fights?

If you really care about the millions of people that are about to die (which I don't doubt most people on here actually do), please be at the front line in real life, trying to help solve the problem, and not act like your usual pompous, insufferable self on here.

Re: Mariah needs to recover her voice and stop touring (92,886) (92,905) by John from USA
I saw an interview from when Mariah was just starting about how her voice and music lifted her from a life of poverty (I'm paraphrasing, of course), and how much she considers it a gift and respects it. I was afraid to say this, for fear of getting scolded or my being a fan questioned, but I think Mariah has lost all care and respect for that very gift. She is touring for money's sake, and all that unhealthy shouty singing is not going to help her voice recover. Honestly even at its current state, there are still many voice coaches that say she can still recover a lot of her voice quality - maybe not the full range - if she decides to take care of her voice.

Mariah was a natural singer - emphasis on the "was" because she no longer is. Not to minimize the vocal training she got from her mother, but I think she, like other natural singers (and dancers for that matter), just knew how to sing from the get go. As her voice got worse, compensatory bad habits arose, and she "forgot" how to sing properly. She needs to go see her voice doctor (an ENT likely), go seek a good vocal coach, relearn how to sing with proper technique. Needless to say, if she really still treasured and respected this gift, she would stop the alcohol, the smoking, and get enough sleep.

She has amassed this massive fortune. Instead of relying on touring to maintain her extravagant lifestyle, she should invest her hard-earned money on businesses and stocks instead of shouting her voice to oblivion.

The 2020s: a return to form? (92,615) by John from USA
The following are a hodge-podge of random thoughts and wishes for MC this new decade:

1. I hope she leads with an uptempo, but a return to classic ballads in her new album with emphasis on melodies and poetic verses and not rap-sung verses would be a welcome change.

2. Redefine/redirect music trends. Mariah seems to have resisted fads such as EDM, and proudly went her own way. This decade, I challenge her to get what's current, turn it around upon itself, and put her own stamp on it.

3. Get herself featured again other people's songs, and get people to get used to hearing her on the air (or more appropriately, on their playlists) more often. Maybe start with this?

4. That she continue to collaborate with new producers and push her creativity to the next level. She did in fact, pen two songs of the decade, and the most recent modern Christmas classic, after all.

5. That she sing mostly in full-voice. The current poor attention span generation does not respond well to whispery vocals. Full, in your face vocals please, or at least in the songs she ends up releasing as singles.

6. That she take better care of her voice. She was a natural singer before, and I feel as her voice deteriorated she had resorted to poor singing techniques, and had "forgotten" much of the techniques that came so naturally to her when she was younger. As controversial as this may sound: maybe consider even getting voice lessons? Yeah, I said it. Even some voice teachers have said a lot of her voice issues right now can be addressed to some extent by getting her to sing healthily again.

Re: E=MC2 era (92,166) (92,167) by John from USA
I could've sworn I read somewhere years ago that when Warner was in the process of trying to sign Mariah, their original intent was to package her in the mold of a Taylor Dayne, who was a relatively successful pop singer back in the 90s and have had fairly modest hits herself. If what you're saying is accurate (that Mariah wouldn't be writing songs and would be handed songs to record instead), then Mariah would've gotten songs similar to Taylor Dayne's, like Tell It To My Heart, Shelter, Heart of Stone, Love Will Lead You Back, which would take her on a completely different path, musically. I'm glad that didn't happen though, haha.

WTH? Miss You Much is Janet Jackson song. Roger Friedman truly has some seriously gigantic radioactive dead gerbil up his ashenhala. He and Stella's [censored] should do brunch sometime.

New milestone - congrats Mariah (92,042) by John from USA
Congrats Mariah, on being the first artist to have a number one in 4 decades.

That said, I think most of the argument here on AIWFCIY being number one for a third week and whether that would be considered the first number one of 2020 stems from the confusion between the date of announcement of the upcoming/next chart results and the actual chart date. For instance: Last week for instance, it was announced on December 23, 2019 that AIWFCIY remained at number one for a second week, but it was actually for the chart date of December 28, 2019. Today, December 30, 2019, Billboard announced AIWFCIY is number one again for a third week, but the chart date is for January 4, 2020, effectively making it the first number one of the 2020 calendar year. At least, that's how I understood it.

Anyways, congrats again Mariah, and the Lambily. Hope this inspires Mariah to make more timeless music in the future - not just for chart purposes, not just for the Lambs, but for the world at large. The music scene sounds so same-y and repetitive without Mariah.

Re: Signature song (91,991) (92,005) by John from USA
I know I am probably in the minority here when I say that, it has been and forever will be Vision of Love. Why? It's the first song to come out that showed off vocals that would inspire a whole new generation of vocalists. It's the song that made me wanna listen to radio (up until then, I couldn't understand why my older sister was hooked to listening to 80s music). VOL structurally sounded like no other song before, or after, it was released.

Then again, the fact that many here are proposing different songs to be Mariah's signature or torch song per se, just means she is such a great musician and songwriter that no one song defines her music career. Does she have to have just one?

Undeniably: Whitney's is I Will Always Love You (which easily replaced Greatest Love of All when it became such a monster hit). Celine's is My Heart Will Go On (and a distant runner up would be It's All Coming Back To Me Now). Toni's would be Unbreak My Heart. What measures do we use to identify a Mariah signature/torch song? Is it the length of time at number one - if so, it would be One Sweet Day and We Belong Together. If it's a song that's almost universally beloved and inspirational, then it would be Hero. AIWCIY is a Christmas song that is now a modern classic, and although I'm pretty sure Christians and non-Christians alike appreciate this song, it's not one the latter would necessarily gravitate to.

The difference with Mariah and the other artists mentioned above is that she writes her own songs, and most sound good to this day. Sure she has some dated songs such as Thank God I Found You, but a whole lost of Celine's, Whitney's, and Toni's sound dated, and can be easily removed as "signature song contenders". Let's celebrate the fact because Mariah has been such a prolific songwriter. Mariah had such a wide reach with her music, that maybe, just maybe, she has no signature/torch song. Seriously though: does Mariah even need to have one?

Is AIWFCIY the 2010-2019 song of the decade? (91,949) by John from USA
Just a thought, since it didn't just become number one for the year, but was a steadily rising fixture during the winter/Christmas season.

Re: Songs least liked (90,033) (90,034) by John from USA
Hahaha. I love Caution for what it is, although it definitely would pale in comparison to MC, Daydream, Butterfly, and TEOM. In contrast I loathe Rainbow and Glitter. Glitter has become tolerable after hearing the songs again at her Caution world tour concert though. Haha.

Re: Songs least liked (90,023) (90,026) by John from USA
You hate "Long Ago"? I've always loved her vocals and feel it's her most R&Bish song in Daydream, other than "Melt Away". We may all be Mariah fans, but we really truly are quite diverse.

I hate almost all of Rainbow, maybe except Heartbreaker, hahaha.

Mimi Outta My Head and Into Yours (89,247) by John from USA
I was listening to Khalid's new album, and while listening to Outta My Head, I thought to myself, how Mariah could actually sound great singing this song - either by herself or in a duet with Khalid.

Question to you guys: Which song in the last 10 years would you think could've been a hit for Mariah, would be a good fit for her current voice, or would be a song she could interpret better?

Re: Billboard Icon Award (89,180) (89,184) by John from USA
Agree. Thought about that too. ABMB is probably Mariah's most accessible song, which for her is still relatively easy to sing. Something even casual listeners know and can relate to.

Whatever she decides though (medley or just ABMB) I hope she arranges the songs to make the transitions smoother, and choose parts that she can actually sing live still. I also hope she decides to ditch the long gowns and super long extensions that age her and make her look unapproachable, non-relatable, and inaccessible. I can't even begin to tell you how many non-Mariah fans and casual Mariah fans actually find her sexy when she's not even trying - like her wearing jeans, black shirt, and jacket in Make It Happen, or jeans and white shirt singing Fly Like a Bird in Idol. The gowns are overly cinched, heavy, and make it awkward for her to even move, much less even draw enough breath to sing. Please move around, interact with the audience, Mariah.

Watching MC for the first time tomorrow (88,530) by John from USA
Finally going to see MC live for the first time tomorrow - and I've been a fan since 1990 hahaha. Watching her four rows away from the stage. So excited since I wanna see her sing 8th Grade live (just has a personal meaning for me). Maybe she'll sing The Beautiful Ones since this is Prince's hometown as a sort of tribute, but that would be a long shot, lols.
