Derek Jeter (96,227)
by Will from Australia

I’m still reading the book while listening to her audiobook, I was really surprised with how much attention the build up to her relationship with Derek and then commencement received, for her to then just give a paragraph about how they just didn’t work out.
No details about what went down or insights into the two stars trying to make it work complications. As a reader that kinda irked me, why dedicate several chapters to just cut the conversation off. Maybe this is part of the lack of self awareness narrative

I've always enjoyed her voice but not so much her ego. On Andy Cohen she spoke about that night and stepping forward for her part with Aretha to go "Toe To Toe" with her.
She then talks about 'that note' in All By Myself and how David Foster said if she couldn't reach it there where other singers he could get who could - her reaction is vom.
I always thought this was her shading Mariah but I later found out through David Foster that it was actually Whitney he was referring to.
Sit down Celine.

How you reading the book? (95,768)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
How is everyone going about reading the book? I've ordered the hardback from Amazon but I'm nervous it won't arrive on the day so I might have to purchase the paperback too. Is anyone else going to read it alongside listening to the audiobook on Audible? You can sign up for a free trial and they let you keep the book if you cancel.

Billboard I reckon made up the category just to give Mariah an award. She's their icon. I'll be shocked if she doesn't win it.

To me, help me through (95,667)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
There's a section in OHOMO that sounds exactly like her current voice. From 1:16 to 1:24 where she sings - to me, help me through, help me need you.
It's kinda sad to go back to 2000 and think that just that small little section of whispery delivery would become her main vocal capacity.
The song is still breaking my heart with each listen when I think of Mariah recording it and how topsy turvey her life would have been at that time. She must have been questioning everything going on around her.

I don't think Mariah has ever connected with a song she's covered like she does with OHOMO. Everything about it resonates like they're her own lyrics, and it's her story. Like Looking In or Outside.

Can't stop listening to the song. How nice is it to have a new song that you don't have to keep on repeat just so you can like it. Probably the best new listen since #Beautiful.

Album to produce the best videos (95,572)

Still on a video tangent, Caution actually produced 3 pretty watchable videos, which had me thinking which album has produced the best?
1. Butterfly 2. The Emancipation Of Mimi 3. Daydream

The B sides (95,546)
by Will from Australia
| |

I'm actually stoked to have Slipping Away and Everything Fades Away, they're two of my favourite Mariah songs so to be finally able to add to my hundred different playlists is a dream. I have the actual single of Dreamlover that has DYTOM and I've never liked it so I could do without that on the album.
I am surprised that nobody here is calling out the inclusion of Close My Eyes (2020), that's more of an unnecessary addition and to be honest is on there for herself and not the fans.

I suppose it benefits her to air the dirty laundry as she can feel liberated at telling her side of the story. She has mentioned that the writing process was very therapeutic for her. Sure we could say it won’t be good for her image but let’s be real, her image with the general public has been in the gutter for longer than the discussion around this memoir will last.

So I'm going through Spotify making my own best of #MC12 playlist and I realise that there's no EP for VOL? Is that because there were no remixes? I would've taken the demo version and live performances, help me Bill.

The general public (95,242)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Not sure how Billboard evaluate this "Artist 100" but I was shocked to see Mariah is not even listed, considering all the activity she's been doing for MC30 and also the current pandemic situation restricting normal artist activity.
The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and Britney are all there, along with whatever the kids like today I suppose.
It just confirms to me that, aside from Christmas time and the lamily, the general public aren't interested in whatever she's doing.
I usually send my partner crazy by overplaying her, especially when a new song drops and he's a closet fan by now. But STD he will not tolerate for some reason, thinks it's the worse he's heard in a long time and tells me to turn it off whenever I try to convert him.

Once In A Lifetime ringtone (95,184)
by Will from Australia

I wish Mariah had taken the ringtone to Once In A Lifetime and turned that into a full length song instead of STD. Some of those Pepsi ringtones could easily have been developed into full tracks. Actually give me the Pepsi album for MC30 please.

Save The Day (95,071)
by Will from Australia
| |

|
Creatively I felt like this was a step back after the progress she made with Caution. I don't hate it and it's a grower but the production sounds terrible. JD y'all know what this isn't, just grinds on me. The slow start is too boring for radio, I do like when the beat kicks in and the whole track should have been produced like this. The Lauren sample is annoying while in the background but awesome when used in the chorus and bridge. The end of the song sounded very In The Mix-ish to me too. But as much as I love the sample, I couldn't help but think the idea was a rip off of Drake sampling Emotions and JD trying to be popular, someone take a restraining order out on him and any future Mariah projects please.

I feel for you Todd and everyone else in Victoria, such a nightmare there. I’m lucky enough to be in Brisbane and we’ve avoided the severe lockdowns but I feel for others around the globe that have lost their norm. Really crap 2020 but as MC says, from manure grows a flower.

I have to thank you Andrew for fighting this cause. I am a HIV positive man and have dealt with this kinda stigma for years and thus prevented me from being upfront and forthcoming with it publicly due to the negative portrayal within media etc. As crazy as 2020 has been with Covid-19, I couldn't help but wonder if the response to HIV would be different if it was as effective as Covid-19 has been with death and also it's majority demographic.

Second that. I'd rather she worked with someone I don't even know of than JD. "I Don't" was the final nail in that creative coffin. Kyro is doing great things for the older divas, Whitney and Tina, call him in for something.

MC30 (94,824)
by Will from Australia

The more I think about it the more I reckon we're not going to get all that we hoped for with MC30 like the demo tape etc
If she gave it all up now, she'd have nothing to commemorate each albums major anniversary or even to grow her estate when she's gone for Roc & Roe.

Well Mariah thought "I Don't" was a good thing so let's take her opinion with a pinch of salt. Since they dropped digitally I've listened to MSG bout 12 times and VH1 once, it's not terrible, but it's not MSG.

Things to note (94,781)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Canada's Drag Race (RuPaul's) played the Snatch Game (impersonations) this week and one of them was Mariah, and it was a car crash. She looked pretty as Christmas Mariah but had zero of her traits and Mariah-isms and it was just difficult to watch.
Was interesting that the judges description of what Mariah is, was all boobs and whatever and that she's hard to make funny. Poor Mariah, the public seem still stuck in her nightmare era persona.
On a side note, I'm delighted Mariah released the live versions of Make It Happen but who in the hell authorised the VH1 to follow directly after the Maddison Square Garden live version. You can really notice the vocal decline.
