About Reuben Walton from United States: I've always loved Mariah's music but my love her for her stuff really kicked in in 2009 with the release of Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel when I realized I had largely been ignoring a major mainstream artist whose whole body of work was just waiting there for me to dive into it. I love when she gets ghetto, I love that she always sings in tune, and I love all her diva swag. I also love her ballads which have gotten me through some personal struggles.

Re: Memoirs, Rainbow and MIAMTEC (62,094) (80,947) by Reuben Walton from United States
Memoirs singles, to be more current, should've gone: after
1. Obsessed (which was top 10 in the US so if it ain't broke don't fix it)
2. Ribbon
3. More Than Just Friends
4. Standing O
Or some other order of the above.

Wow, I didn't know Eminem said anything about Mariah's sister Alison. [Webmaster: Original message posted on Sunday 4 September 2016.]

Re: Everyone asking: why open for Lionel? (71,654) (80,937) by Reuben Walton from United States
Don't lump "Side Effects (feat. Jeezy)" in with those songs. At least "Side Effects (feat. Jeezy)" has two verses done by Mariah only and a hook and a bridge by her and the guest rapper is in the proper proportion to her lead vocals quantitatively.

Re: Gay icon status (76,243) (80,931) by Reuben Walton from United States
Shouldn't songs be somewhat open to interpretation? Especially when, as Mariah often does (not necessarily for "Outside" though), the artist says they want the song to be something people can take from and relate to, in addition to being somewhat autobiographical? Aren't feelings of differentness like what she describes in "Outside" kind of universally understood, regardless of what the specific reason(s) she personally had for feeling that way? I mean, a song shouldn't have to be "Born This Way" for it to be allowed to be thought of as a gay anthem. That's kind of an oddly rigid way of thinking about music and art, things that are often free-flowing and subject to the ebbs and flows and whims of emotion and human experience.

Re: Biggest concern (77,059) (80,930) by Reuben Walton from United States
I find your commentary refreshing. When did she smoke though? I know she talks about how she did in like the late 1980s, and there's been talk about her partying during the late 1990s (Butterfly era to 2000ish), and the mention of "purple takin' me higher" in "It's like that". Are there other periods I'm missing during which she smoked? I like how you refuse to accept the "and we're gonna linger on, gonna linger on" as a replacement for what it's supposed to be in ABMB. That's one of the refreshing things that stuck out. I always listen to the live renditions with my mind being aware of what the album versions are like, but I think I go from "dissappointment-to-acceptance" in the space of a couple seconds max whenever I hear one of those less-satisfying line deliveries. I'm back to posting on here because UKMix.com has been down today.

I laughed out loud at the part about the wigs and weaves being attached with crazy glue. It's funny and true. They would have to be fixed in whatever the perfect position she prefers is, so she wouldn't ever touch her hair lol.

Re: Mariah Carey (80,846) (80,924) by Reuben Walton from United States
Don't know if the link about her playing at Sandstone Point Hotel in Queensland, Australia is broken or what but when I click on the link, it goes to an article with the headline "Queensland developer Robert Comiskey" and one line below the date/time stamp that says "Developer Robert Comiskey says political donations did not give him preferential treatment". What does this have to do with Mariah?

MTJF and Ribbon (55,256) by Reuben Walton from United States
I actually love those songs and those are two of my most favorite on MOAIA, which is probably one of my favorite albums by her. If you could burn a hole in an Mp3 I would have, I ran that album into the ground. And of course it rose again because the material is so good to me. Still one of my faves. Those two songs both could've easily been #1's and can't nobody tell me nothin'.

Walmart shareholders show (54,367) by Reuben Walton from United States
She was more on point on this show than I've seen her be lately. ABMB she went for the notes again and I could hear her live voice almost the whole time except for some parts of the last chorus.

That Damizza article from the Daily Mail (53,734) by Reuben Walton from United States
"Mariah Carey with Damizza (second left) and Al Gore (centre). Mariah initially approached Damizza in 1997, wanting him to help her with her fading career." Are they out of their effing minds? In what universe was Mariah Carey's career considered to be "fading" in 1997?

Too many second verses were cut. I wish I could've heard the real version of TGIFY. But all in all for me it was a worthwhile experience since it was first time seeing her live.

Nostalgia (51,426) by Reuben Walton from United States
I was born 1/13/1991. I wasn't around for Mariah Carey. I don't remember Emotions. I'm not sure if I remember Music Box, but Dreamlover was among the songs I always heard on the radio when I was a little bit older. I think maybe I had heard AIWFCIY throughout the 1990s, but I don't remember when it was released. I was 4 when Daydream was released, and I don't know if I remember when it was released but very often I would hear Fantasy on the radio when I was a little bit older. I do have a memory of riding in the car with either my mom or dad and hearing the DJ/announcer on the radio say something like "Mariah Carey's new album is called Butterfly, coming out soon", they might've been introducing Honey or something. I'm pretty sure that was in 1997. It could've been before or after they played a song from Daydream, and then they were then plugging her upcoming album. I think it was summer 1997. I do remember hearing Honey, at least the high notes at the end "I need it, need it" are a distinct memory of mine. As a kid I think that Dreamlover/Fantasy/Honey may have blended into each other as one general vibe memory of being a 1990s kid. I loved My All when it came out as a single (I wasn't listening to her albums at this point yet), that minor key guitar opening, plus the video reminded me of Titanic I think (the movie being a big childhood obsession of mine), because her lying on the back of the boat reminded me of Rose in the end or something. That and the MHWGO video. I loved My All. MC lying on the boat reminded me of Titanic I think, the whole dark sky with water thing, much like Céline Dion's video for "My Heart Will Go On". I also thought she was saying "'cause I'm drowning you in a warm pool/whirl pool, without you by my side". I had swimming lessons and couldn't swim and it scared me to see the blurry water surface above me and putting my head underwater scared me in general. My sister used to play #1s all the time when it came out. I remember hearing Emotions/VOL as like brand new songs. I thought Emotions was like a really old song just because the production was so 80s. I loved WYB, especially Whitney Houston's vocalizations towards the end. Heartbreaker was probably something that sort of blended into the general uptempo type song thing for me, but I think I liked it. My sister really liked TGIFY and so did I.

I always get worked up all over again when I go back and listen to all her missed singles opportunities from the last 7 years. Tsk tsk.
