She gets treated vastly differently than her peers. She is vilified for her successes and mocked for failure. It's hard to convince people otherwise when it happens often.

That's not boycott or illegal. You don't have to listen to those playlists. Most people have their own playlists anyway, and Spotify is not the only streaming platform. Brenda wasn't at the top of some of those playlists before. Was she being boycotted since AIWFCIY hit number one? I thought we had moved on from the paranoia lambs tend to have about some mega powerful entity coming for Mariah. AIWFIY and RATCT are the Christmas hits they are because millions of people love them and got them there. You can discount, you can gift, you can pray, you can throw a lambtrum, but all that won't make a song popular or hit if people don't like it.

Mariah vs Brenda (104,319)
by Lee from USA
| |
|
|
The weird thing about this is that these folks don't care about Darlene in the first place. The woman worked with Cher this year, and still no difference in Billboard chart position. Love threw a tantrum and still got smoked in the charts. Brenda's song came out 36 years before AIWFCIY and has been around for 5-6 decades, and the label finally cares about it.

Mariah vs Brenda (104,318)
by Bobby A from United States

Thanks for the update, Edward. Seems like there is a considerable effort this year to keep MC from getting to number one or staying number one for multiple weeks this year. UMG is Brenda Lee's record label. They are really going all out this year with this huge promotional push to celebrate RATCT's 65th anniversary. But why now after 4 years of AIWFCIY being the number one Christmas song?
Well I think I know why. Some people in the music and television industry are tired of hearing MC being called the queen of Christmas. It started when MC wanted to trademark the Queen Of Christmas last year. She angered Darlene Love and Elizabeth Chan. Many in the music and television industry were angered by MC's trademark move as well. So, I feel this is their payback for MC attempting to take the queen of Christmas all for herself and from sweet Darlene Love. Everyone already feels sorrow for her how Phil Spector used her voice and she never was publicly credited on a lot the songs she did for him. Phil Spector controlled her early career and was content to leave her uncredited on the songs he did for him.
Do you think that I have hit on something?

Oh please. You sound like one of those anti-sjws that whine about minorities, women and the LGBTQ+ communities being in mainstream media. I doubt Mariah gives a damn about disgruntled pseudo fans ranting about her versus the millions who still love her.

I don't know how much money Mariah makes from royalties each year but it's surely got to be around the US$50m mark? I can appreciate the "rug pulled from under you" theory - but it's so unlikely as to be an impossibility.
I cannot now see, at this age, and with the experience she has, why Mariah cannot lower the keys of the songs, sing them, and move around the stage once more. Madonna is ten years older than Mariah, recently got out of hospital, clearly still has an injury to her leg, and still is still delivering a reasonable energised and effective show (although there's a lot of criticism of a different nature that can be levelled at that artist).
I have always said that I think Mariah's weight, and ever expanding breasts, have negatively impacted her movement and her singing - if she cared about her fans she would do something about it. She would lower the keys of her songs, put on a pair of pants, move about the stage again and have actual fun rather than looking like a (rein)deer in headlights. And we would have a lot more fun with it.
For the love of all that is holy, Mariah: go back to the way you were.

MC doesn't have that energy like she had before Memoirs. Her total artist package diminished after E=MC2. After Memoirs, MC became dillushioned with the music industry. Every album after 2008 failed to reach the masses. Every single tanked at on charts. Her vocal ability was being questioned by everyone. The focused and driven MC checked out years ago.

MC was having vocal issues long before 2020. I don't think her vocal difficulties are because of Covid-19. She should just sit down with Oprah for a tell all Oprah special. She is not fooling the Lambs or the general public anymore. Will she tell us what is going on with her voice? At the end of the day, she owes her loyal fans a great live performance without lip syncing.

Why do you think that MC is disliked by so many female artists? Could it be the Tommy Motolla effect? How many other female artists have had so enormous push and financial investment from their label like MC had? None that I can think of. From 1990-1999, there were no other female artists bigger than MC and other female singers disliked MC during that time for it. Once the Tommy Mottolla effect wavered, MC's popularity decreased and the haters started speaking. To be honest, Tommy, MC and Sony did make a mighty team during her popularity and chart reign. Taylor Swift would have never had the same chart success like MC did in 90s. And Chaka is just mad because of what she could never achieve as a solo artist like MC did.

MC just does not work with a multitude of fresh and innovative producers and songwriters exclusively. She should take Chris Brown's and Harry Styles' approach to choosing songwriters and producers - collaborate with young and upcoming songwriters and producers who are really good at giving an artist a unique new sound. Harry Styles' As It Was is a brilliant masterpiece that stays in your head all day. Brezzy has had hit after hit on the radio because of who he collaborates with. With MC's impressive songwriting skills and a fresh sound, the Grammys would take notice again. Hopefully, MC is taking notes this year to step out of her comfort zone.

Okay, I'm just going to say it: I'm a salty beep who will die mad at the Grammy's. I know this topic has been discussed as nauseum, but there's just no way it can only be 5 wins for her. I don't believe she deserves all the awards, but she should certainly be lauded far more than she has been. Her pen game, production, vocal arrangements, and vocals were superb in her prime. I'm mad and saddened that her artistry has been dismissed and overlooked for so long. And, no - I'm not congratulating beepin nobody (quadruple italic and underlined exclamation marks.)

Merry Christmas to All on MTV (101,958)
by Lee from USA
| |

It was on MTV like two days ago. After years of snubbing her at the VMAs, I thought they were just clout chasing, and I was right. It pulled nearly 4 million viewers when it premiered on 12/20. The VMAs and RRHOF ceremony couldn't pull that off even with well-known artists.

Does anybody know if the concert aired on MTV in any countries? I remember the press release said it would but then I heard that it was taken off the schedules. Did it in fact air on MTV? I really hope so as more exposure for MC at this time of the year will set her up nicely for her next project.

So what (101,883)
by BFF from United States

I agree. Mariah needs a dose of reality.
Tommy wasn't good for her personal life, but his influence was really good for her professionally. She was much more disciplined and focused, and she kept herself in better shape physically and vocally. Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if they had never gotten married but kept their relationship strictly professional.

So what we can really expect is a heavily edited CBS Merry Christmas To All broadcast with the original album tracks. It is going to be interesting on the 20th. MC totally can not sing anymore. It is sad to admit it. The honey butterfly vocals are no more. I don't think even removing her vocal nodules can repair her voice. I wonder what Patti and Stephanie Mills have done after all of these years to preserve their voices.

About time someone gave us some first person insight into her performances instead of critiques of cell phone clips. These critics are talking about a "charade" but it would mean that the audience at the concert, her inner circle, and the media must in cahoots with her to make her look good.
