Article: Mariah and Anderson Paak are breaking hearts together (108,384)

This article made me smile. It must be a good feeling for MC to finally experience chivarly from a man who clearly understands courtship. I am happy Anderson is in her life. She needs someone who understands her and the whole music industry. Anderson clearly gets MC. I just wonder has MC told him everything that has happened since the Caution era. I am playing Leave the Door Open now. Lol. His vocals are so good.

I came to that realization on Valentine Day when MC didn't make a new music annoucement after her Vegas shows. Shezz, have you noticed that Nostradamus hasn't made hardly any MC new music tweets this year?

I agree. Was it the best speech? No. She is clearly going through some problems and if she would rather have a little bit of fun and be a little ditsy rather than give an inspirational speech, so be it. Maybe she doesn't have it in her at this point to do so. I think her work is far more powerful to be brought down by a speech. I don't think that people who were disappointed by her speech should not comment and move on. Clearly they still love her and want her to shine. What is the point of a messageboard if you can't read a mix of opinions? I personally feel the world tears her down enough, but I understand when others want more. I'm not being a yass queen but I don't think her speech was catastrophic.
Health and happiness to MC and the board. Chin up Bobby, she may not give us another album but we'll get something from her this year.

Anderson Paak is a fine looking gentleman, though. Maybe he is using his connections in the industry to help MC get her voice back. If anybody can get MC to think about having vocal surgery, it is Anderson Paak. He is definitely standing by her side showing he cares about MC.

Not sure what last night represented for MC or her career at the iHeart Awards. I don't love it at all though. In any which way. She came across as under the influence of something. The only poignant moment re her mom was another pained expression on her face that seemed detached from reality and lost in space. If this is what Mr Paak brings then he can paak and go. She and her children don't need this influence. At a time when she should be showcasing her impact and significance she comes across as zany, addicted, self-absorbed and irrelevant. Not even a word of offering hope and persistence to so many hurting in this horrible world we are in. Nothing. And I don't think there is any new album or material at all. I think it's all over and she knows it. All she has is a little bit of Christmas and that's it. It's over.

I need to say this out of love and concern for MC. What is it going to take for MC to let the Lambs know what is going on? I hope she doesn't wait again until there is a threat of a leak to the media. Something is not right with MC. If she let us know on her own terms, then it would be better for her in the long-term. Five years from now and no new album is going to be devasting to her career. Have you noticed that she doesn't mention anymore about working on new music? Listening to Chris Brown's Residuals on the radio makes me miss hearing MC on the radio.

I totally agree and something isn't right with her. The only thing that night gave me was the realisation how good Mariah was, those two singers came no where close to the we way she sang those songs. Maybe [you're] right, her realisation of how good she was is maybe getting to her and she knows it's over. Maybe that's the whole problem.

People have called me evil, a monster and Satan on this board for years. I really said I would start being more positive once I realized what we do to our superstars i.e Whitney, Prince and Michael. But when I saw MC talk about the lighting and her ensemble at the beginning of her speech last night, I was devastated. At a time I'm trying to make everyone around me take her, her catalogue and artistry seriously for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame vote, I just felt like a fool. And what burned me up even most was all the 'Yass queen, slay' in the YouTube comments. Do they know the genius that once resided in that hollow shell? I'm tryna get people to take her as seriously as Joni Mitchell because I really believe in her talent that much. I have to wonder was she high or drunk last night. I just feel so stupid for blaming Stella for that era or Jermaine Dupri for MIAMTEC's rollout. A lot of Mariah's problem is Mariah. Get some help. PS I did enjoy her mentioning Pat. Oh and I guess she and Anderson Paak are a thing. Eric where's the barf emoji?

Is the lighting okay? Lol. She will never forget about what someone said to her 35 years ago. Or is MC just poking fun at her own insecurities? Also she hasn't use the word ensemble in a long time. I loved the beautiful gown, but why can't she just wear a dress that doesn't require help walking around.

I think that's the reason why Mariah has probably never gone through with surgery to get those phuckers out. Her voice is literally her whole identity and legacy, and losing the whistle would be a huge blow, considering that's the last trick she has under her skirt. She may not always sound great, but the second she hits a whistle note, the crowd eats it up.
One thing we can say for sure though is that the whistle as we knew it is already gone. And even if surgery could help her overall voice, the recovery would mean strict vocal rehab and actual discipline, but that's not exactly one of Mariah's strengths. More than a whistle here and there, I do miss that buttery and effortless tone she used to have. When she could just sing without worrying about every note. That's what I miss the most.

So, I'm doing some insomniac strolling through social media, and I see a video of Monica talking about why she has sounded a mess as of late. She had surgery and went back to singing and didn't listen to her doctor's instructions. I did some digging and found out she had surgery on her nodules. My jaw was as wide as Kelly Price's at Thanksgiving. Monica had been sounding awful according to clips I saw on Tik Tok and I just passed it off as maybe she wasn't as talented as I once thought. I even went so far as to declare the boy now belonging to Brandy. Monica is of little consequence to me because she was never vocally on MC, Celine or Whitney's level. But what this means for MC speaks volumes. Maybe she heard about the risk and was like "Nah, I'm good." What if they told her she could lose her whistle? That's part of her brand now. Although, side note, I'd rather the high chest belts more than the whistle. She uses that as a crutch to prove she still has "it". She now whistles more than a thousand gay tea kettles in London. But seriously, Monica was talking about a four month rehab and recovery. We all know discipline is the arch-nemesis of Mariah Carey. Even if she had the surgery, you think she would listen to instructions? I really want y'all to weigh in on this. Not you Kelly Price. I just can hear MC singing to her nodules, "You'll always be a part of me."

I understand. I know your perspective was speaking to all in general terms. No worries here BFF. The tone in my writing style comes off as overly sensitive. I try not to take things so personal, but it comes out at times in my posts. Plus, my dysgraphia has really shown up a lot in my posts during the past week from stress. I say the words in my mind, but I don't type them. So, all is good on this beautiful Friday. I got to take a step back this weekend and forget my job while on vacation. I understand now how MC felt on American Idol being in a toxic workplace.

Robert Anthony, I hope you know that my post was not directed against you but all of the people who have been so cruel to Mariah throughout the years. It really feels personal when people are so mean and disrespectful to her. I felt it when people made fun of made for loving her in childhood, adolescence and adulthood. You just wonder when people will embrace her for the truly great, international, boundary-breaking artist that she is.

Thank you, Randy. What is it about a pear, though? I come here to take my mind off my stressful job this year. I am just mentally drained teaching in this affluent school. It is not the students, but the so called professional adults and demanding parents that I work with. Sometimes my posts are result of how hard my day was and how much I can't wait until May 23rd to free myself from this school. I understand how MC felt when Virgin wouldn't let her alone during the promotion of Glitter. Anyway, I hope MC is showered with love and praise on March 17th when she receives her iHeart Radio recognition.

Robert grow a pair. You are the balance this board needs. Do not pay attention to whoever that said whatever. I haven't paid attention to her since she used to be popular. I used to say all the time we need you, Terna, jacker20 to balance the equation. My job, and when Andrew was here's job was to unbalance it. Anyway, to bring us to all back on point, I don't mind MC being last out of Mary, Madonna, Janet and Whitney. I mind the constant rejection, if it happens again. I could care less she married the Svengali that discovered her, that her live performances are as inconsistent as JLo's love life or that she'd rather appear a ditz obsessed with lighting than a living legend. MC is the best singer songwriter combination of all time. She has the record sales, lyrics, melodies and fans to prove it. This industry is biased against her and it shows. PS this is an industry that has given Britney Spears and Nicki Minaj MTVs Video Vanguard award before Paula Abdul, who hasn't received it. Think about that.

Mariah has collaborated with a diverse range of artists as well. She's recorded songs and sang live with Luther Vandross, Whitney Houston, Luciano Pavarotti, Boyz II Men, Aretha Franklin, Carole King, Babyface, ODB, Rick James, Eric Benet, Jay-Z, Willie Nelson, and the list goes on. I'm telling you, people disrespect Mariah out of spite for all of the reasons Randy and I elaborated upon in our posts.

I have been trying to think of one reason why MJB was inducted last year. MJB has collaborated with a diverse group of artists like U2, Elton John, Sting, Ray Charles, and George Michael. MC's career has been lacking in that area by no fault of her own. Timing and personal reasons just got in MC's way to collaborate with more diverse artists.

MC commanding the stage is something that Tommy could have done to help [nurture] in MC. He could have easily hired a great performer like Quincy Jones to help MC with her stage presence. MC would have listened, but he wanted to keep her underneath a glass jar and not become too big of a performer. That is one thing that he could have done better for MC's career. Anyway, I hope she wins the nomination this time. MC needs a huge interview or philanthropic event right now to make the media talk about her to increase votes.

Randy, I 100 percent agree with [you]. However, Mary, Janet, Whitney and Madonna (Celine as well) all take their artistry seriously, which includes being respected performers/entertainers. They are all confident in their craft, put the work in and it shows in their performances. They present themselves as confident artists to be taken seriously in their interviews. They command respect on the stage whether you like their music or not. Mariah has never mastered the art of performing and always presents herself as insecure. While MC has the record sales, she does not have the same respect on the stage which is why it has taken so long for her to be added to the RRHF. MJB is not a great singer and is often off key, but she gives her all whenever she performs. MC has been on autopilot for many years now unfortunately.

Vinyl sales are down (108,329)

I just feel like MC's vinyl sales are down in 2025 compared to other legends like Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Usher. The latter three have major labels who are sending their catalogues into vinyl production at the same rate MC had after the The Rarities was released. Now in 2025, there has not been any new vinyl release information in the first quarter of the new year. Is that odd or just too soon in 2025?

Yes, she can still make it happened. Does she really want it though? I have the strangest feeling today MC is taking her time releasing new music because her creative spirit has diminished. When I looked back at the E=MC2 era and she lost all of that weight, MC had a such a go get them mindset. She lost that mindset 7 years ago.

Well, I think Mariah was actively discouraged by Tommy to take roles that she was offered in the 1990s. She has alluded to the fact that there were film roles offered to her that made other people movie stars. I also think a lot of her efforts to break into movies during the 1997-2001 period were derailed and sabotaged. If you recall, she cut her Butterfly Tour short because she wanted to do a movie called "Double O Soul" with Chris Tucker but then Tucker backed out, leaving Mariah with nothing to show for her investment in that project. She was also attached to a project called "The Sweet Science", which seemed very interesting but never came to fruition (most likely due to the response to "Glitter"). "Wisegirls" never went anywhere outside of the Sundance circuit, even though it was an interesting project.
The role she took in "Tennessee" was solid and her role in "Precious" was small but interesting. I think she could get away with another attempt at making movies. Whitney did "Sparkle" pretty late in her career. Diana Ross did a few made for TV films in the 90s when she was in her 50s. It's still possible for Mariah to do something different if she wants to.

Do you think Mariah's movie career mirrors Madonna? Madonna found her acting niche with Evita. She kept at acting and finally received recognition for her portrayal of Eva Peron. So, what I am trying to say is that MC should have kept at acting more after the The Butler. However, I think it is too late now for MC to even come close to receiving the movies roles that Madonna has had in her career. Who knows? Maybe she will prove me wrong.

"From what I remember and I was there she was adored in the 1990's." Yes, she was loved and adored in the 90ies with Mariah mania in 95-96. I remember those days too. It all went down in 2001 with Glitter. I love the album, the movie is okay. As a fan I enjoy the movie (it was my first DVD in 2001, can you imagine lol), with the wonderful music. But the general public didn't want Mariah to be in a movie, they wanted Mariah the voice only. Mariah's acting wasn't bad, there are some really good scenes and some are not so good. But again, Mariah will always be seen as the songbird supreme, the acting is nothing people are waiting for. I also need new music from her, not a new role. I still enjoy Wise Girls and Tennessee. That was the best. The worst for my taste was the one in Zohan. I know, it should be funny.

MC's problem right now is not having a solid team behind her and guiding her career. I feel she has been making a lot of business decisions on her own since she left Roc Nation. These bad business decisions have affected her voice, performances, and MC16's delayed release. I wish Babyface would save her career like he saved Toni Braxton's career with their album Love.

I Wanna Dance With Somebody (108,304)
by Jamie from UK

So I finally got round to watching the Whitney movie I Wanna Dance With Somebody. I really enjoyed it, but it made me feel sad at the way they portrayed her reflecting on loosing her voice. It got me thinking about Mariah and how she must feel. While they are both completely different circumstances, we know Mariah has her vices too. It must be really difficult to acknowledge you have lost your once powerful and distinctive voice. Whilst we don't fully know what's going on with Mariah, I can't help but think I want to sit down with her and get to the bottom of it all. She hasn't been herself for a while now, whether it be vocal decline or her mental state, something is off. She seems to have lost her personality, I can't quite put my finger on it, she's just seems different. I agree with her sitting down with someone to lay her cards on the table and then get the help she needs. She needs to know admitting things doesn't mean it's completely over. I think playing this façade of everything being ok is doing her more harm mentally. The problem as I've said before is firstly people around her approaching the subject and then secondly Mariah admitting to it. It must be really difficult for her, but I truly feel if she drops this diva persona, and portrays a classy approach to personality and craft, I think she would get more respect. She's done the diva, the hood persona, she's nothing more to prove, bring it back to basics and remind people of the great classy artist that she should be at this stage of her career.

Yes, it so sad about her passing. I send prayers to her children and family. I am glad that I have my collection to listen to her music. What is really bizarre is that a few months before her death she exposed on Facebook Live that Universal Music had been receiving all of her royalties and mechanicals for all of the songs she has written. That is really sad knowing she has been in the music industry for over 40 years and she doesn't have the money to show for it.

I feel MC underestimates how well her ballads resonate with the general public. I don't understand why she is so hesitant to release a WBT or DFAU type of ballad with Made For Me remix type of vocals. Yes, I am hungry for new music. I want MC back on the radio in 2025. I wish she wasn't such a perfectionist.

Just curious Eric, why do I see the change on a public computer (not logged in), but not when I am logged in on my phone?

Eric, I changed my avatar this morning, but it is still my picture. Can you check on it for me? Thank you so much.
[Webmaster: I see you've changed your avatar to a picture of Butterfly Mariah.]
