But, she always preservers no matter what comes her way. I love that about her. So, on target about people waiting to pounce and point out all the ways she messes up, isn't doing enough, sounds bad, looks bad, etc. I think that's why some artists (like Adele, or say Kate Bush) aren't very public. We don't know what goes on for anyone based on what we see in the media or by the opinions of countless people. Mariah gets called countless names. She lies, she's lazy, she drinks too much, is "fat" she should have vocal surgery to fix her voice (we're not in the room with her medical professionals) lol. She's mentally ill. People say they want her to open up more, but at the same time are always looking to find some kind of flaw with whatever it is that she's doing. There's a desire for her to "be more confident" but by the same token, scrutiny when she does anything. How does analyzing everything a person does (or doesn't do) boost their confidence? Only respect and love can do that. When you live under a microscope, and have been through a really rough few years emotionally, I imagine you might put up some walls because you feel safer that way. You're careful who you trust, because you feel you've been hurt before. Especially when you're a known sensitive person who is affected by what others say/do (which Mariah has said she is). Maybe when there is no expectation on Mariah to change or be different then she is, some of those protective walls will come down. Maybe when she's greeted with compassion and acceptance rather then scrutiny and judgement, everyone would feel better. The public, the fans, her family and Mariah herself. Mariah won't ever please everyone (58,001) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada There will always be something "wrong" with an album, a single, a live performance or an interview if that's what you focus on. We all have our preferences. For example, the last Infinity remix wasn't my bag, no big deal, nothing to go over the deep end about, still adore Mariah and will always love and enjoy her. We either accept Mariah as is, or we don't. I've enjoyed what I've seen of the interview, she answers what is being asked honestly as far as I'm concerned. It's cool to share opinions and everything (57,697) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada Many talk about how "rational debate" isn't possible here, but Eric lets posts stand as they are for the most part. Things get censored at times based on his rules of respect for his website messageboard. I don't come here to "debate" Mariah. I'm not interested in debating her. Some are. That's not what I'm here for. She's not a piece of property, or a law being passed in parliament. She's a human being who has feelings and flaws just like everyone else. I come here because I'm a fan, not a professional critic, and I appreciate having a place to come and enjoy Mariah among others who appreciate her work. The only time there is discord here is when people feel their opinion is being attacked, or their being told their viewpoints are "wrong" or invalid. People either get labelled overly negative or overly positive/delusional. The insults and name-calling ensue. It's exhausting, and it won't stop until we as a community decide to just stop without trying to change how things are perceived. (Sunday 8 November 2015; 19:52)

Mariah/Disney (57,351) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada It's so funny that the Beauty & The Beast soundtrack was mentioned. We all know how much MC loves Disney, and frankly it doesn't feel like the Holiday's unless Mariah performs at Disney on Christmas Day. We've all been talking about Empire, excited for that. I also think it would be so cool if Mariah did a spot on ABC's Once Upon A Time. If you don't know the show, it was created by the same people behind Lost and each character has a "real world identity" as well as a backstory rooted in classic fairytales. It's fun, clever and really well written. I think it would be cool to see Mariah playing a fairytale character the way this show blends both worlds. Not saying it will actually happen, but how fun would that be? (Saturday 17 October 2015; 18:55)

You are very respectful. It's not like I'm this huge raging Janet fan or anything. Lol. She has 4 albums in my entire rather large music collection. I don't collect her singles (like I do Mariah and I never visit Janet websites, like I do here, and never been to a show). Mariah is my favorite artist ever. I guess I don't find it necessary for every conversation involving Mariah and another artist, to be about comparing this is better than that or that being a Mariah fan must mean that we must be threatened by the success of other artists. I adore Mariah - the world will never see another Mariah, but I don't think we need to measure her against others, measure others against her or be upset when other singers/performance artists are enjoying success for their work. I think we can just appreciate people for what they offer for the artistry of it, and celebrate it, rather than making everything about comparison and competition. Everybody can just do their thing.
