The remix (56,050)
by darrian liu from taiwan

I've never listened to it again lol. It really doesn't improve upon the original (it just worsens). Then again, it doesn't mean she is incapable of good music. I think she knows that she's uninspired at the moment (she definitely knows that what she is releasing is sub par to her standards), but with the good publicity surrounding her, her business side is telling to her to capitalize on it. Then her musical side and her business side clashed and ultimately she decided to release the bad remix. Some of you guys said that it gets better with every listen but I did try it and it worsens lol. Really really patchy. Almost Home was one of the songs that got me hooked on Mariah lol. I mean, I saw the headlines about her declining vocals but then I heard the song on the radio (it's pretty big here) and I was like "What was the public thinking? This woman's voice is incredible." And it was an amazing song. Beautiful, simplistic lyrics, booming vocals, nicely produced. It should've been a much bigger hit.

Has absolutely no credibility. When I read the Greatest Singers list and Mariah was at #79, I lost all respect for that magazine. I mean, Mariah is one of the best singers to ever grace the pop music industry, period. Even haters have to admit that secretly. That is just a perfect example of bad journalism.

I think she would get not only one more, but two or three #1s. Mimi's comebacks are always huge and we all know once she is on top she won't budge for like, at least a few years.

I agree lol. E=MC2 had so much potential hits and they made poor single choices. They realy should've released I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time after Touch My Body, or Migrate. That era was wasted, I tell you.

Empire (55,888)

This is such a massive opportunity for Mariah to get another hit. Empire is very commercially successful and critically acclaimed as well. However, Empire hasn't had any major success on the Hot 100. It did thrive on the Billboard 200. I just hope that no sophomore slump will be there, like what Revenge experienced. I'm sure Mariah is gonna take this chance. What this era needs is a hit and it will be good.

If Mariah kept her training regime on her voice and her workouts, we would get amazing vocals by December and her 2013 body probably by February. Imagine her back on Rockefeller ready to prove people wrong and slay completely live.

Why You Mad (55,819)

Idk what to feel about this. I really like the re-sung parts because they actually show that her voice is gradually coming back to form. They're really good. T.I's part actually add something to it. Would've preferred if only MC and T.I. work on it together. But JB's part are like, downright bad. Flat lyrics and his nasal voice really sounded horrible with that autotune. French's parts were blech too. Again, they sound patchy in production, just like the original. I love some parts of Infinity and some parts of the remix. It's like if they're combined, it would make a super solid song. But what happened to those magical remixes like My All/Stay Awhile and I Still Believe (Pure Imagination)? But after hearing the re-sung parts, I wanted Mariah to do an appearance on TV and you know, strip down Infinity and sing it with just a piano or a guitar and improvise a lot. It would be pure magic if she does that (considering if she warms up her voice for an hour or two before it and rehearses), just like the SNL performance of Vanishing.

No. Just no. Eminem is a good lyricist but not at the level at MC. The Warning felt like it went harder because it was basically an angry "cuss song" (I made that up). Obsessed was just as brutal, but it felt softer because there was like no cussing there. Also, her voice is still one of the best in the biz. Her tonal quality is rougher and drier than what it used to be but it's still very unique and beautiful. Again, it really doesn't matter to have a pretty voice in the biz. You need to have a distinguishable voice. Now MC, she has the killer combo of a distinguishable yet pretty and pleasant voice with a near perfect technique.

I think I understand what you mean. E=MC2 era had buttery vocals, although not as buttery as Daydream era. Actually she retained that tone up to 2011 after her pregnancy. 2012 onwards, her tone began to get dry. It's not necessarily a bad thing, I think it's raw and soulful. Also, her belts are thickening. Compared to E=MC2's thinner belts, this era's belts are actually meaty. This gave her an advantage in volume, especially up to D5, but it costed MC her upper belts. That's why she struggles with E5 above. What's wrong with her body though? I think it looks OK. I prefer her 2013 body, but this is just slightly thicker. Not a big deal. In fact I think it helps with her voice. 2005 had MC in a thicker figure than 2008 and listen to her voice. 2005 was richer and stronger, while 2008 was thinner. I'm just looking forward to this new music. I hope this ain't nothin like Infinity (which is a good song, but kinda patchy in the production).

The one song (55,621)

Brutal lol, I feel guilty because some songs are just really equally good. Mariah Carey: Vision of Love (sorry Vanishing and Sent From Up Above) Emotions: You're So Cold (The Wind came damn close) Music Box: Music Box Merry Christmas: Miss You Most (At Christmas Day) Daydream: Underneath The Stars (Fantasy and Melt Away come really close) Butterfly: Breakdown (or The Roof or Honey, masterpieces) Rainbow: Petals Glitter: Lead The Way Charmbracelet: Subtle Invitation TEOM: Stay The Night/Fly Like A Bird E=MC2: I Stay In Love or I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time MOAIA: Languishing (should've been a full song) MIAM: Make It Look Good/Faded/Dedicated Btw I'm loving how Mimi seems to be loosening up. I love it when she wears denim. I want dem camouflage jacket back on her though.

New song (55,587)
by darrian liu from taiwan
| |

The one producing it was the one who produced Drunk In Love? It would be wonderful. Some might say it's a dull song compared to Bey's other songs but imo it's one of her richest. It was sultry and sexy and kinda dark. I love it. Plus I love how Bey found her sound right there, hip-hop phrasing with raw vocals. It could be really good, with a more playful twist. I really want another song that's on par with the masterpiece that is Breakdown, although that's probably too much to ask for (since Breakdown is Mariah's is like, the highlight of her career)

I'm not gonna comment on French since I don't even know him but JB? I mean I don't have anything against JB, it's just that he's a teeny bit of a douchebag. Okay, that might be an understatement. A major one at that. I'm all for new MC music though. Swag.

She looks amazing. It's sexy, but it's not cheap, it's real classy and elegant, just like she is. She's losing weight so I guess she's been working out. She could've chosen another colour because she's wearing a lot of black lately (I can understand her choice, I wear black a lot too). 2015 is lifting MC up and I like it.

That performance of TGIFY is the best Mimi performance of 2015 yet, hands down. Even Jimmy Kimmel can't beat that. She hit like a ton of 5th octave belts with such clarity and resonance the Eb5s were amazing. Thanks for sharing the video.

Deception (55,519)
by darrian liu from taiwan

Tbh, Dreamlover is one of her easier songs to sing. The hardest part was only the last chorus. It doesn't make sense if she lips Dreamlover because she can't do it. She can just lip the "take me up oh" and "won't you please please". She's lipping Dreamlover so that she can sing Hero, and she lips Honey to slaughter My All. It makes sense that way. Since her voice is improving really fast, I hope she can sing all of her #1 hits soon. Andrew, maybe you don't feel anything about TGIFY, but talking from a technical standpoint, it was incredible. Optimal resonance in her belts (all the way to Eb5), supported, solid low notes, and good precision and note separation of the runs. It was super good.

I do agree Honey is somewhat not as satisfying as the other performances in Vegas but there are like a lot of songs in which she murders. Don't get me started with TGIFY, that song's performances have been the best of Mariah's in 2015. IDWC, VOL, LTT, Someday, those are great vocal moments. She does still have a problem with uptempo songs, but even Touch My Body is good. Most of the Vegas are actually good, really good. Meanwhile, why did they only give Mariah a star on Walk Of Fame in 2015? It's way overdue. Nonetheless, I'm really happy for MC.

I feel that Mariah's voice is entering a third prime. Just needs some polishing on the runs and once she can belt nice F5s live, that's it. That would be her third vocal prime.

MC will always be my #1, that's for sure. But I also like Whitney, Beyoncé, Bon Jovi, Janis Joplin, Tori Kelly, Brian McKnight, Pentatonix, Ariana Grande (she was better during Yours Truly era imo), Queen, The Beatles, Bastille, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, Fall Out Boy, Agnez Mo (her music was better before she went international, her Indonesian songs were really good and she got that insane vocal range), and a lot more lol. I used to like Nicki Minaj before she released Pink Friday and went pop. Her mixtapes were dope but she wasted her rapping skills on pop songs. I liked her latest album though (besides a few tracks like Anaconda).

There's no bad Mariah songs actually. The worst songs by Mariah are always decent. But I really dislike You Got Me and Boy (I Need You). It's not that they're really bad or something, it's just that the chipmunks irked the hell outta me, plus the constant whispering. Whenever You Call is usually a skip in Butterfly. I almost always skip X-Girlfriend (the hook is damn catchy though).

That video with the groom dancing with his mother to Hero was very touching. I bawled like a baby lolol. I never really considered Hero as a favorite, but this is what differentiates legends from temporary stars. You'll never have a moment like this with JLo, Ariana, or Justin Bieber, or whatever. Only legends could touch millions of people's hearts like this.

Why is she justifying her dumb actions for being young? That's not a mistake, if it's a mishap like on stage or like being conned, that's cool, you're still young. But licking a donut in a donut shop? That's not a mistake caused by your age, that's plain dumbass move. But that being said, I never wanted her career to be over because she's too talented for that. She got the voice, but she doesn't have the technical mastery that MC has (she sounds shouty because she strains high notes, but then again Arianators won't admit that fact because according to them, she hits all notes with ease).

Snubs (55,087)
by darrian liu from taiwan

When I first became a lamb, I thought that Mariah had at least 10 Grammys because the first albums I really listened through were Daydream and Butterfly (consecutive musical masterpieces). Each could frickin vacuum the Grammys like nothing. The debut album, Music Box and TEOM could sweep the Grammys pretty easily as well. Imagine how surprised I am that she only had 5. Beyonce, an artist who had less cultural and musical impact (a good artist nonetheless), won 4 times more than Mariah. I really don't understand. Why would they snub such an artist like that?
