A Daydream release in 2024 (106,284)

It has been a great discussion this week about Taylor and insight into this whole Swifty phenonenon. We can't deny Taylor is riding high off roads paved from our true trailblazer and trendsetter MC. I am really ready for Mimi to comeback one last time with her most successful album since TEOM. I know she has at least one more left in her. Where are you Mike Will Made It? Mimi needs you again.

Hahaha you know being a lamb I pay extra attention to lyrics. Yes, I know the interview you are talking about, it was a few years back when her career was going through a decline. I agree most artists try to maximize their gains at their peak and yes Mariah used to release albums almost every year for the first 5 years and every 2-3 years after that, but no artist released as much as Taylor did in the last 2 years. 2 re-recordings, 2 new albums and a tour. Also hard launching her relation with Kelce haha. I'm reading many articles where people are saying it's too much too soon.

Mary J Blige has 9 Grammys and 2 Oscar nominations. People don't snicker when you say her name. And listen Lee, I think you think I'm arguing for MJB. I'm not. There's not a damn thing Mary can do better than MC. Sing, write, dress, give face. MC wins. What I was saying is that the industry respects her more and that's why she was selected over MC. And again a lot of this is MCs fault. She has Tyra and Heidi Klum on stage doing her makeup. She's more interested in her dullard damsel diva than being an artist. She's laying in bed for a portion of her concert. The optics aren't there for an iconic artist.

MC just needs to release a fire album to get recognized by the music industry. She doesn't write the brilliant songs like she used too. If she would find songwriting partners like Madicin (Kenny Lattimore) or Daryl Simmons (Never Forget You) and write some R&B slow jams and love songs, then she would get back on top of the charts. What is it going to take for MC to get back to those brilliant songs?

Didn't Whitney cuss out a fan for asking for an autograph? Didn't Aretha Franklin threw shade with the best of them? Both were bigger divas than Mariah. Nobody complained when they were inducted. But then again, they were Clive's girls.

Possibly. But there is not another up and coming female pop artist who can take her place right now. I think she has at least 10 more years of a popularity high. Don't let her star in a major movie with a hit soundtrack. That would add five more years. Lol.

Mary J. Blige has had a lot of high profile pop duets during her 30 years in the music business. Mary's duets with U2, George Michael, Sting, Elton John, Santana, Ray Charles, Maroon 5, Rod Stewart, Andre Bocelli, and Quincy Jones have broaden her appeal to the music industry executives as a whole. I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee looks at that too. That is what MC's career has lacked.

A Daydream release in 2024 (106,259)
by Bobby A from United States

I often wonder how a Daydream album would sell in 2024 if it was released in 2024. Would it sell a million copies plus during in its first week and break Spotify records? Would Fantasy, One Sweet Day and ABMB break streaming and iTunes records? I picked Daydream because that is when MC's career went into overdrive and her popularity increased. Tortured Poets Department seems to be Taylor Swift's Daydream. Her popularity is so high right now. She could release a David Guetta and Zedd TPD remix album in the Fall and it would sell 1.2 million plus copies too.

Lol. I probably should have saved my regular closing emoji for that post. I won't mention his name though. You know the one who went back to the party looking for MC.

The Celebration completely 100% sold out (106,246)
by Bobby A from United States

The audience is having fun alone with MC. She brought out Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks last night. It is funny her first few shows are always rocky and then the rest of them are spot on. I think her perception of how the audience will react to her really causes MC a little anxiety during the first few shows. I am glad her shows are selling out.

So they added the summer dates which is now 70% sold out. The GP just loves Mariah that's just the fact. Mariah actually seems like she's having a great time, and this time no longer needing anyone to walk. With the 30th anniversary of M Christmas, I know she'll have a lot in store. It's going to be another big year for her. If there's new music, I feel like it will be on the first quarter of 2025 because this year is stacked. I want that missing D'Brat song to be found and released.

Hard truths (106,223)

No artist is perfect. Every artist has things that they are good at and things they need work in. For example, Celine and Whitney are polished, dynamic performers but couldn't write a song to save their lives. Janet and Ciara are great dancers but lack in vocal prowess. Mariah is no different. She is a dynamic, prolific composer, songwriter, producer, etc. but she is not a great performer. She has said herself numerous times in interviews that she is a studio artist and more comfortable in the studio. She also has said that she had to learn how to perform while she was famous and just figure it out. Unfortunately after all these years, she has done nothing to improve her stage presence and performance style. In my opinion, she has gotten worse and some lambs are blinded to it. I've seen her live in person so I know. She is stiff as a board and I don't understand why. I get my hopes up every performance that her inner performer would jump out and she would amaze us but it's the same thing every show/tour. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad she's still with us but this latest iteration of MC ain't it. My two cents. Thoughts?

Hard truths (106,224)
by Bobby A from United States

I truly feel MC never had that "Wow" stage presence. She just wasn't groomed and polished that way. Early performances show MC whose whole stage presence materialized for the audience to focus only on how she used her voice. Tommy never allowed that "Wow" performer element to materialized for MC like singers we would say had that "Wow" stage presence early on during their careers. Singers like Michael Jackson, Janis Joplin, Tina Turner, Prince, Teddy Pendergrass, Usher and Fantasia. These artists could give you a show that you walked away from the venue thinking on the way home, "Wow."

A 2am surprise (106,221)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|

Has MC ever given the Lambily something like a 2 a.m. surprise on a release day? Taylor Swift is a marketing genius. She knows how to keep her fans excited and broke at the same time. Lol. I guess this is just a different time of Friday release days and using the digital music boom for an artist's advantage. A Tuesday release day unannounced double album would not have had the same effect in 1995. Some record store clerk would have spoiled Taylor's surprise. Oh well, she will dominate the Grammys again next year.

I think MC is just not able to move her voice along notes like she was use to doing. And she is thinking more in her head about executing each note unlike in the 90s when those notes came out with effortlessly. Therefore, her hand is not moving as much as she is singing.

Honestly I don't know, could be a lot of things. One could be just out of fear, my aunt had an accident where her shoulder got dislocated, it fully healed but some trauma or something led her to never raise her hand any more above a certain limit. Let's not forget she fell multiple times. One was when she was pregnant with the twins and just flat fell on stage, then the #Beautiful incident. She probably is just scared of falling in public again. But from the footage I saw of the show, she's moving around my herself instead of using 2 men to move her around, which is a start.

I feel that we just want the album she has said continously that she is working on. I think MC is just telling us things to keep the new music narrative going on and on. We are not getting a new album any time soon. The Las Vegas shows and Christmas is all we are getting this year. Her heart is not into producing a body of work like 20 years. That studio spark is not in her eyes anymore.

Maybe I used the wrong word to describe what seems to me was the start of her popularity and decline on the charts. #Beautiful should have done better on the Hot 100. What caused it to stall at #15 on the chart? It had all the right elements for a monster 6 weeks at #1 type of song.

I wouldn't say her popularity declined during MIAM. In fact #Beautiful could easily have been her next top 10 hit but after the accident she dropped all promo. Same with the rest of the roll out. Her delaying it due to the title being leaked, then releasing random singles with no proper treatments and no promo. People were still interested in her during this era, she just vanished.

I was thinking today that MC pushed her voice really hard from 1990-1995 recording back to back albums in the studio. After those years, she continued to push her voice with more use of the whistle and breathiness tone. I am just wondering if it were those two factors that caused MC to lose her ability to even sing like she did before 2003. I know I am beating a dead horse with her loss of vocal abilities, but it is really sad that she has to sing to pre-recorded tracks at a live show. Monica or Deborah Cox would never do that to their fans.

Mariah becomes more and more of a parody of herself. Instead of a voice, we are presented her wig collection. And the two minutes where she sings live sounds like she's sitting on the toilet. Sorry I know Mariah is a diva, has an expensive lifestyle and needs money. But it's not right to exempt the fans like that.

I was scratching my head after watching Xavier's video. The facade of a total package artist is front and center now. Maybe we will never see MC16 released. This is what MC used to be through the eras 1-7
1. Debut - mesmerising 2. Emotions - insane vocals 3. Music Box - mature artist 4. Daydream - confident artist 5. Butterfly - transformation 6. Rainbow - versatile artist 7. Glitter - trendsetter 8. Charmbracelet - lackluster album, vocally on point world tour 9. TEOM - the return of the voice 10. E=MC2 - still on top 11. Memoirs - sales decline 12. MIAM - popularity decline on the charts 13. Caution - critically exclaimed album and tour, high Spotify numbers, vocal decline 14. 2019-2024 - queen of Christmas, MC16 delayed constantly

I'll always love Mariah, but a grand total of 2 minutes of actual live vocals from a 2 hour show is appalling. Mariah fans love to mock J. Lo, but Mariah herself is no better. I think I'm finally done with her now. There's nothing more to say. Good luck y'all.
