About Andrew from the United Kingdom: Banned forever!

Re: Article: We rated the best ballads from each of Mariah's albums (93,297) (93,306) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
You know I hate disagreeing with people lol but the rehashed Petals that you talk of. I love getting a new Mariah album and hearing what soft introspective, pensive song she's knocked out. I skipped every song on Memoirs until I got to Languishing because it's what I wanted to hear. Portrait was obviously it for Caution and I didn't take to it. But Languishing, Petals, Close My Eyes, Looking In, they're Mariah staples and nobody does it like her. It's insane how much she can make you feel on the songs where it seems like she's not even trying. Maybe Bye Bye was it for E=MC2 although it's more of a single. I loved the song some but it has not stood the test of time well. It sounds dated - not timeless like the aforementioned. Twister was the biggest disappointment on Glitter. The song actually makes me feel anxious. Can't listen to it. But Mariah's strength lies in those melancholy ballads where she sings softly about some kind of pain. Nobody does that like her. Genuinely.

Re: The pandemic (93,290) (93,291) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
"If you really care about the millions of people that are about to die (which I don't doubt most people on here actually do), please be at the front line in real life, trying to help solve the problem, and not act like your usual pompous, insufferable self on here."

I think it's I morally okay to point out that discussing the benefits to Mariah of a virus poised to kill millions. In fact, let me be pompous and say I know it is.

Your suggestion that empathy is meaningless and that I must somehow go and save victims with my un-medically trained bare hands is morally vacant. You're an idiot lol.

Was that pompous enough for you, sweetheart? And a word to the wise: if I am insufferable, don't suffer me. Ignore my posts.

Discussing the benefits of a global pandemic is just weird.

Again, millions of people are about to die. And we are discussing the *benefits* to Mariah? Did IQ's just drop drastically since I last checked in?

Re: C virus future plans (93,277) (93,282) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
On the brink of millions of people dying and you're thankful that Mariah isn't going to have to cancel concerts. That is [censored] up. Shame on you. Keep calm and carry on, everyone.

Re: Say So (93,239) (93,247) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
That's it. Are you like some music journo? Because if you're not, I think you should consider it. Granted, I think some of your opinions are total bollocks but there's nothing more appealing than someone who articulates with succinction and erudition (yeah, I did that on purpose).

Re: Article: Should have been bigger: "Almost Home" (93,236) (93,237) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I can't believe the video won best video at the World Music Awards. That is, well, random.

Almost Home is a great song. That and The Art of Letting Go suggested to me that MC would go in a brighter, pop-ier direction. It's been mostly gloomy ever since. I hope Mariah comes back with a brighter, faster, pop-ier banger of a track for June. Then a second fast beat, party song for August followed by a ballad in October leaving enough time to get ready for Christmas. It would be good to see Mariah one final time. An image overhaul would help. #sackthestylist

Perhaps you should properly re-read your English and check that it marries with what you intend to convey before posting it.

Re: AYNAF unreleased video (93,218) (93,224) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
"The video shows that MC always had that quirky sense of humour. People saying she has changed so much over the years are dead wrong."

If it were: "People saying she has changed her humour so..." then you would be correct. As it stands the claim was that Mariah herself has not changed so much which she evidently has.

Re: MC on the radio (93,188) (93,223) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Hearing a song on the radio is like watching a film on television. It is more exciting because you know millions (or hundreds of thousands) of other people are experiencing it with you concurrently. It feels current and dynamic. Hearing Emotions on the radio would be significantly more fun than playing it alone to yourself in your car.

"The naked little white 'looking' angel children are a creepy and disturbing approach to a song paying homage to her own Black gospel roots."

Kinda sounds like you're saying white people should not be in the video. And last I checked Mariah didn't have any "gospel roots". What roots are they?

It's hard to not appear condescending to people who make clear statements that are at best false and at worst downright stupid.

If you think it is merely cynical to challenge delusional and flatly incorrect, manipulative statements, so be it.

Re: AYNAF unreleased video (93,189) (93,196) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Sp what actually happened? They filmed this video, shelved it and recorded the one we all know? It seems bizarre. Perhaps that's why Mariah was mocking the director. Maybe she hated it and told Tommy to start again.

"The video shows that MC always had that quirky sense of humour. People saying she has changed so much over the years are dead wrong."

You are denying Mariah has changed dramatically throughout the years because she cracks some jokes filming a video in 1994?

Nope.

Everything Fades to MCA (93,150) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
I have always thought Mariah or one of her people reads this board. And now that she performed in a short clip backstage of Everything Fades Away I am more certain.

It was incredibly recently that people were debating in that song here for her to pull this random European bonus track out and perform it so soon after when there are many more likely songs to choose from seems to much of a coincidence.

And Everything Fades Away remains a veritable cornucopia of audible brilliance haha. Anyone who doesn't agree is either dumb or American. Not that those two are mutually exclusive, mind you.

Obsessed (93,127) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
On a lighter note, I have fallen in love with another Mariah song. I liked Obsessed when it came out but I didn't love it.

I now love it and I can't stop listening to it. It's a genuinely brilliant song. And it does not sound dated in the slightest. It even sounds like it could be released now. In fact, I would offer that if it were to have been released now it would do much better than it did way back when.

Sack the stylist (93,125) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Ever eternally hated for my opinions, I have stated I think the way Mariah is styled now (hair, make-up, wardrobe) is really off point. Am I truly the only one that thinks this?

I, personally, would like to see hair with volume, wavy hair, less clown make-up with more natural tones and fashionable clothing - including pants. And definitely I don't want to see her tits anymore. Or ever again. That Everything Fades Away snippet video... if you don't admit all you are focussing on are the girls hanging out, well, I won't believe you.

Re: Evergreens (93,117) (93,124) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
Finally, some sense.

Mariah in the 90's in the UK was very successful. Number 1's in the UK are not like in the US. To achieve it in the United States is a feat, based on sales and radio play (right?). In the UK in the 90s, number one records were primarily for BritPop bands which were the in-thing (think Oasis and even Spice Girls) and one hit wonders and gimmick records. That Mariah was top 5/top 10 for most of the 90's is incredible.

During Daydream Mariah was incredibly popular and well thought of (anyone here go to the London Daydream show?). Unfortunately (for her popularity), in 1997, two things happened.

First, she took her clothes off and never really put them back on again. Nobody wanted it from her, nobody respected it. Secondly, the general view was that she was trying to be ghetto (for want of a better word). And in the 90's nobody here was going to get on board with that, musically. So she became a source of derision - which, actually, really upset me for ages, and I spent years defending her, even deluding myself like the delulons on here still, worryingly, do. Add the vanity project of Glitter into the mix and Mariah in the UK was pretty much over.

Until TEOM...

I was more surprised than anybody. The British actually started to like her again. She was a credible artist with style and a good attitude - not the vain, attention-seeking titty-popping, gangsta's moll wannabe everyone thought she was.

Alas, she then met Nick Carter and everything fell apart, once more, and she's been treading water ever since. Still, she can still sell out arenas and I'm glad she has toured the various countries of the UK rather than just doing London. It's in the top 5 of music markets in the world so paying attention to it again is a good idea. I really hope Mariah does not fuck up Brighton.

I really would like the UK to fall in love her, again. Putting the tits away and getting a new stylist would really help.

Re: What career achievement makes you most proud? (93,114) (93,123) by Andrew from the United Kingdom
As per usual on this site, when someone asks people to name the *1* thing of x or y, the muppet brigade brings out lists.

Lists are mostly meaningless and even more so in this case. Mariah's biggest accomplishments are well known and an *exhaustible* list. Almost nobody here needs them llisted. Chances are if someone is on this site they have followed Mariah's career well enough to be able to recite them in chronological and backwards alphabetical order. You completely miss the point of the survey to simply (and nauseatingly) virtue signal about how much the muppet brigade just-love-Mariah-so-much-ohhhhhhhh-they-simply-can't-chooooooose.

If the person who had nominated this topic as a survey of interest had offered that he needs to be educated on simple basics of Mariah's career instead of trying to trying to see if there was a consensus on something purely subjective, you would have been right in there.

Muppet.
