Re: LA out at Epic (75,174) (75,180)

Exactly. Even if Mariah is game to still release the album she's working on, does everyone remember what happened with Glitter? Virgin records was going through some major management resructuring during that time period and Mariah didn't have any one real label head for guidence. This could end up being a big mess for MC.

LA Reid out is bad news for MC (75,171)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Do we need to remember what happened when LA Reid left Island/Def Jam? Barry Weiss (head of JIVE) came in and replaced him. Well it was clear from the get go that Mariah had no interest in working with him and stalled and delayed the album until he finally lost his post and she released it with Steve Bartles who she was semi okay with. Mariah is very untrust worthy and doesn't like working with people she's not comfortable with or feels who are trying to control her. This could mean a big delay for the 20th anniversary of the Butterfly album, new project. PS. Barry Weiss was instrumental with some of the biggest and most successful albums at his previous label and still Mariah wanted no part of his input, she even went as far as executive producing the album all by herself.

Re: LA Reid has no choice (74,535) (74,551)

I don't know, she did way more promotion for MIAMTEC than she did for Memoirs if I remember correctly. For Memoirs she was so caught up in Precious and her new perfume. All the promo appearances were either pushed back and cancelled. Yes she had more singles that were released but none were really promoted heavily with the exception of Obsessed. For MIAMTEC, the promo actually started with American Idol and #Beautiful, then she went on to promote #B a lot. With YME she did tons of radio interviews and even appeared at the World Music Awards. She even lit up Times Square. That would be excellent promo imo for a new album, but first and foremost the songs have to connect to the people.

LA Reid has no choice (74,531)

None of his artists (including JLo) are really panning out right now. He has a global superstar on his roster, someone who can actually sell and has a proven track record of that (200 million albums and records sold). So he has to put all his eggs in the MC basket. What Mariah has to do to fulfill her end of the agreement is create the songs. The songs she is capable of making. Yes some clever collaborations with the hottest quality artists but also ballads like "Butterfly", and "If It's Over". Songs that make you feel something no matter who you are. She also has to be able to put her full energy into promoting. Which has never really been a problem for her (even MIAMTEC had some promotion). She'll have to step it up though.

Anything new (74,466)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Anything new from Mariah at this point will be welcomed. The last time(s) she's switched it up were Butterfly and TEOM. Other than that it's been a lot of the same old Mariah Carey. She needs to take this new album in a direction to change things drastically. (While maintaining who she is.) That can mean go completely neo soul new age R&B, or even "hardcore" A/C. Just something that is not expected and will turn people's heads again. I would even take EDM Mariah if that means she excites people again like she used to in the old days.

MC and Walter Afanasieff. Butterfly 2.0 (74,388)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
She's back with Sony, it's Butterfly's 20th anniversary, she's releasing a new album after a very tumultuous time. Can't she let bygones be bygones and get back in the studio with her most successful songwriting partner? Plus he's Russian. Get at him Stella. A Butterfly 2.0 album would need Walter A, The Dream, Timbaland, David Morales and The Weeknd. Duet with Beyonce (as her Dru Hilll moment) and there you would have an R&B moment that just may rival the first.

Daley and Mariah (74,107)

You want to hear current great R&B music with the most amazing lyrics and arrangement? You want to hear a direction that Mariah could definitely go and have all success in? An artist named Daley (who has defended MC on multiple occasions) is doing just that. Check out "Love & Affection", "Time Travel", "Be", "Until The Pain Is Gone". And picture Mariah singing lyrics like these. It will instantly transport you back to Daydream Mariah and the artist we all knew and loved. Let me know what you think.

Re: The fateful fall (from grace) (73,946) (73,959)
by T from USA

That fall will go down as the moment Mariah lost her storied career. I've been saying this all along. Hate to place blame but it seems like Nick Cannon is the curse to Mariah's career. She should've never been on a table dancing without some serious caution measures in place. I hope she wasn't tipsy. Had the injury never happened she would've been promoting #Beautiful full stop and the album would've came out in 2013 at some point. To me Mariah as an active recording artist (who could compete and be relevant) is 1990-2013. After that it's just Mariah hanging around as a semi-legacy act. It's starting to get embarrassing. And it's a shame because I think if she didn't fall and break her shoulder she would've had another few years as a major force in music.

Mariah Carey covers album (73,422)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah has so many amazing duets (Luther, Whitney, Dru Hill) that I always thought Sony could put them all on one album and sell it as a duets album. But I also think an album that would sell incredibly well would be a covers album where she compiles all of her covers and then maybe does one new one to release as a single. It would a change of pace and might let her be seen in a fresh light for a second. If she did this what would be that 1 song you would want to see her cover in the studio? Maybe "With You I'm Born Again" or "You & I". 1. ? 2. I'll Be There 3. Without You 4. Endless Love 5. Open Arms 6. The Beautiful Ones 7. I Still Believe 8. Do You Know Where You're Going 9. Against All Odds (Take a Look At Me Now) 10. Didn't Mean To Turn You On 11. Bringing On The Heartbreak 12. Help Me Make It Through The Night 13. I Want To Know What Love Is 14. One More Try

If you could get Mariah to have done only one song from Butterfly, TEOM and MIAMTEC on her debut album (to make it a 14 track album) instead (with her 20 year old voice) which one song would you pick? I would pick: My All, Mine Again, and Make It Look Good.

Re: "No one wants albums anymore." Wrong, girl (73,356) (73,362)
by T from USA

Mariah changed. At one time it was about the music, it really was. But she was also a poor girl who felt the power of what money can bring. Somewhere around the time of around Rainbow/2000 her priority changed. It became about making money. $80 million to sign with Virgin, $18 million to do American Idol, countless perfumes, makeup lines and side projects and now an E. Network show. These things are not music descisions, they are money considerations. So now in an industry where albums don't make a lot of money it doesn't surprise me that she doesn't want anything to do with one. Singles are quick and easy and you can make a fast buck, period. At one time it used to music that was Mariah's inspiration, now it's money. A real musical act would never keep Stella around.

Her new Instagram pic (73,342)

Okay, so the majority of people on here and other asking for Mariah to tone down the diva glam, to go back to the more natural Mariah that they used to relate to. Now is your chance to tell her directly how you feel. She posted a natural pic of her on Instagram, gone is the diva lashes and hair, makeup and jewels. This is the Mariah from days gone by in that pic and if everyone "likes" it and it gets more social attention and likes then some of her more outlandish publicity stunt pictures then maybe just maybe she'll realize what the people really want from her. Get to liking that picture.

Re: Memoirs one of Mariah's all around best albums (73,304) (73,306)
by T from USA

Maybe Memoirs would've been beyond "Perfect" if she included the song she worked on with Timbaland at the time. It would've broken up the one critic people have of being too samesy. Plus shortening it to 12 tracks would've given it a better punch. A track-list like this would've made it rival Butterfly in terms of epicness: 1. Obsessed 2. Betcha Gon' Know 3. Hate You 4. Candy Bling 5. Ribbon 6. Skydiving 7. Inseparable 8. Standing O 9. It's A Wrap 10. More Than Just Friends 11. Angels Cry 12. Languishing

I Know What You Want (73,300)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
This past week I was thinking about Mariah's big comeback to the commercial success she had in 2005-2010. Everyone (including me) links her success to We Belong Together. But even though WBT was the song that actually sealed her legacy for good and helped sell TEOM ten million copies world wide, I think there was a song before it that actually brought her back to peak commercial performance. I'm talking about IKWYW in 2003. The song was so hot and went Top 10 in about twenty countries world wide, not to mention #3 on the Billboard 100 and the UK at a time she couldn't buy a hit. I'm convinced that this song is what set up her comeback. WBT sealed it. But It's Like That benefited from her new found commercial success and I think Mariah herslef knows that because she still performs it over other songs in her live shows.

Memoirs one of Mariah's all around best albums (73,271)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
I honestly can say that Memoirs is top notch quality and fits in perfect with MC's discography. Not only does it have a massive Top 10 hit but the album itself has almost sold platinum in the USA. When I listen to it, it transforms me to a time and place in the autumn of 2009. Music was still a major part of her life. With "The Elusive Chanteuse" she did take her time to perfect the music, but Memoirs had a freshness and spontinaity that MIAMTEC lacks. The Elusive Chanteuse is like Rainbow where as Memoirs is more inline with Butterfly.

Mariah and Stella in a relationship? (73,264)
by T from USA
| |
|
|
After these past two years and seeing Mariah change so much I can only guess that maybe Stella and her are actually dating and in love with each other. It wouldn't be that much of a stretch. Stella basically lives with Mariah, she's with her at all times. Her family has moved in. Mariah doesn't want it out there so she keeps "relationships" like James and Tanaka around to keep people from wondering. Mariah must feel that her brand would be severely ruined if it came out. There's no other way to describe what is happening with her career. I think she has finally found real love and that's it.
