Too early to tell / give credit when due (41,399)

Are fans really calling You're Mine a flop already? She just released it and has been promoting non-stop since its release. I see people saying she needs to promote more. This woman has been everywhere, calling in radio stations, wedding ceremonies, video countdown shows, all except go around and kiss babies at this point. We have yet to see what else they have planned for the song. JD has been doing a great job getting her back out there and staying out of the way which is commendable. iTunes is not the end all be all. Have people forgotten that Vevo streams count towards chart positions? Both the original and remix audio were available the same day of release and both videos within a couple days of each other. All on Vevo. I assume they are getting streams first and then will proceed with strategically placed performances right before it officially goes out to radio. Why are people saying this song is boring? It is the best song out of the bunch so far, and you don’t release an uptempo in the middle of winter, you save those for the spring/summer. Can we also let the song to grow and the promotion to continue? Just because it doesn’t shoot to number 1 its first week doesn’t mean anything. This song is a hit song, mark my words. For those saying that she won’t reach the top like she did in the 90’s, did they forget the record breaking WBT and TEOM? She was bigger then than in the 90s.

The song hasn't even impacted radio yet. It's been out for like four days at this point and people on this messageboard are already calling it not a hit. Yet, critics and people seem to like the song. The song won't impact radio until the 18th. With MC all over the place with promotion she'll get her spins, especially with the Trey Songz remix. I forget who broke down the concept of the video but I thank you.

Pleasing everyone (41,397)

Truth of the matter is she can't please everyone. While I do understand that some folks may not like the song and it's completely fine (obviously) I do get anoyed with people complaining about every little thing about MC, the promotion, the interviews, the videos, the remixes, this, that and this again. Honestly, when she was releasing hiphop songs everyone was like "we need a Mariah ballad". When she releases a ballad, people want an uptempo because ballads don't work anymore at radio. If she still makes the music shelikes without compromising her artistic integrity, people say she needs to change it up to have another #1, but I'm sure if she had a song produced by David Guetta featuring Pitbull everyone would lash out like no one's business. It is ok not to love a song or an album or whatever and to actually say it, it is another to want to shape someone into something else just so you can like it. Mariah is a human being, she will make the music she wants, period. PS: Also, Mariah is not the one who decides when to release her album so all the pushbacks are not her fault. A record label will not spend millions on promotion for an album if the first single doesn't take off. I'm just tired of all the constant gratuitous bashing. For the love of God, can we rejoice that our favourite artist is still making music 24 years into her career? If Mariah needs to stick out her tongue or pretend being fucked by Robin Thicke to be #1, I'd rather she was #50 and still be the Mariah I love.

I don't think the general public as a whole really cares about her diva antics or that it's so bad that it's affecting her career, artist like Rihanna and Eminem both have horrible attitudes and people still support their music. Rihanna hit a fan in the head with a microphone in a concert and is constantly cussing them out on instagram, yet she still racking up number 1 hits. I guess she has more a forgiving fanbase and great support in the industry. Besides, the whole "diva" thing is "tongue and cheek" for Mariah anyway, unfortunately some of the general public may not get that, but her lambs should. Mariah is not as horrible as people want or make her out to be.

You're mine (41,395)
by Isaac Ortiz from USA

I love Mariah, and always will. But let's face it, "You're mine" isn't a hit song. I think that Mariah just released the song for Valentine's Day. I honestly think that she will release a better song. Though it makes me wonder if the album will really be released in May. Who knows? "Triumphant", "Beautiful" and "The art of letting go" are all great songs. They all impressed me a lot. And I wished there would have been a video to "The art of letting go". It also makes me wonder if the new album will have a long track list or be a double album. Mariah needs another song like "It's like that" or "Beautiful" if she wants another hit. I know she can do it.

Radio (41,394)

Bottom line is, she needs radio to back her up. You can't really have a hit these days without airplay. I believe this is the reason why many of her singles haven't done well lately. Once a women reaches Mariah's age in the industry, staying on top is more of a challenge because of the age bias. I won't even get into my theory of the industry not wanting her to break The Beatles' record conspiracy. If she gets the airplay she deserves, this song will become at least a top 15 if not top 5 hit. Regardless of this songs' fate, I love it, listened to it on repeat for 15 mins straight when I was on the treadmill the other day and about to listen to it God knows how many more times after this. Mariah please don't delay this album anymore, just drop it in May like you have planned and let it do what its gonna do. I know it will at least go gold regardless of the promotion or hit singles.

Deedre / other thoughts about You're Mine (41,393)

The world waits with "breath that is baited" for what I think. Haha. That's a line from Sex and the City for those interested. Anyway, it's a good song. I like the duet with Trey Songz. I am excited for the new album. Look, her legend is cemented in time. There is no changing her career numbers. She has nothing left to prove. I think at this point, she is doing what makes her happy. She has had one amazing career, adding a great family with adorable kids. What more do you want? I've got 20+ years of music to enjoy. Her videos these days may make me roll my eyes and laugh, but so what? Videos aren't what they used to be. It's about the music with the expansion of the digital age. I am excited about May 6th and a new album.

Mariah (41,392)

Can we all just take a moment and bask in Mariah's beauty. I was going through the pics of her wearing the white gown and fur for the Empire State Building ceremony and she looked so flawless (nothing new there). Her makeup was gorgeous and I love that she's sporting the pink lips (she's usually more into peachy and nude tones). And her hair was on point. So glamorous. With all the Mileys getting naked on stage and JLos trying to be hood, Mariah is so effortlessly glamorously and yet "hood" at the same time when she wants to be. When I see Mariah performing with other rappers, she never comes across as a wannabe, which is something I don't think I can say for many other white singers (I know she is biracial) male or female. I am happy that I was born in an era where I got to experience the two greatest singers ever - the fabulous Miss Mariah Carey and the ridiculously talented king of pop, Mr Michael Jackson. If only they had a song together (and the all star songs don't count), a love ballad or a sexy duet. But I am still grateful that we'll see a lot more of MC.

My opinion (41,391)
by J from USA

I highly doubt Mariah isn't making music to be on top of the charts, if that was the case this album would had been released months ago, and she wouldn't have gone through 4 singles. Honestly I don't care if I get thumbed down but Mariah already reached her peak as an artist. Nobody wants to accept it but it's the truth. Why is this such a bad thing for some of you? It happens to every artist. Aretha, Whitney, Michael. I hope this album doesn't get pushed back again if this single doesn't take off.

You're Mine / WBT (41,389)
by Ryan from the Philippines
| |
|
|
I have to disagree that YM and its lyrics sound dated. Yes, it's giving me this 90's throwback feel yet sounding really current and fresh. I am loving the melody, I'm loving the music, the background vocals, etc. And the her main vocals sound so Daydream/Butterfly-ish. It's funny that some compare it to WBT, DFAU and even TMB like for real, TMB? Lol. Even the slightest of WBT, I don't hear anything like it, except for what they are saying it's the sustained high chest note at the end. But please, it has been one of her trademark vocals since day 1. YM's sustained chest note even shifts to another octave. Amidst all this negativity from some, not so delighted people here, I would like to give the song hats off for having earned a modest 5M audience impression (as of this writing) despite the fact that initial release made last February 12th was only at few radio stations in the US. I believe, official radio release is pushed on the 17th. And yes lambies and TEOM die-hard fans, finally, We Belong Together has now reached the 100M mark on Youtube, making it Carey's first ever Vevo certified video. These are all just positive comments for the love. Congrats Mimi.

Off the iTunes charts (41,388)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I couldn't find the song on the iTunes chart anymore. I think the reason why the song does it so badly on the charts is because the song is boring. Mariah needs to put out something festive, something for the party, something that will suprise people when they first listen to it. If she keeps on releasing slow ballads like You're Mine, I'm afraid she will never chart again.

Confused? (41,387)
by Blake from USA
| |
|
|
I read the press release for "You're Mine" and don't forget the eternal like the BET host or Mariah will point that fault out too. This release was from IDJ and it stated that the single was released to radio formats across the country the same day as the single was on iTunes, video premiere on MTV. So I am confused to why you are all saying the single isn't released to radio yet? Personally the public is so turned off from Mariah's antics as a diva, whackjob moments; the Facebook makes and child like images of her living in her bubble are enough to frighten any new potential fan but she also seems to have lost touch with reality. I think this is why it's falling on iTunes (#108 now). I know this post will get thumbs down galore but as much as I love the new single, Mariah comes off crazy to the public and even radio. I miss the humble MC.

I agree with you about the promotion route. Yes Mariah is really going out if her way to promote the song the best she can and I also was wondering why she isn't appearing on Ellen because she seems to love being on it and also it will get major attention on the song. Your idea about her appearing on Wendy is great, I heard Wendy talk about M many times and she had nothing but great things to say about her. She can also make an appearnace on Alan Carr's show for the UK fans. M has been doing her share of promotion, now she should step it up a notch and appear on some major talk shows.

Single choice (41,384)
by Tony from Ireland

I have to be honest. I like You're Mine better than Beautiful. I think there's need to bring the song to the attention of mainstream public if Mariah wants to have another hit. But for me, since long time ago, it doesn't matter. I have the feeling that she is making wathever music is making her happy, and I'm more than deligted about it. She is putting music out mostly for the fans. As long as she is bringing more music to my life, I would be the happiest man on the planet. Of course it would be nice to see her back to the top, but why worriy if she don't go back straight to #1 anymore? There's a lot of bad music out there and we get to see week after week how they top the charts. I've just been listening to Toni Braxton and Babyface's new album. Really good one, really bad performance. People don't care anymore about quality, not as they should. I ratter spend my money on timeless classics than on any other new artist. Mariah rocks and she will forever. She is alredy a legend. Sure, she has better singles on that album.

Radio release? No (41,382)
by Orkun from The Netherlands
| |
|
|
I honestly think that Mariah's management will not promote in to the radio at the given date. They said that because they want to see if the song is loved by the public or not. That's why they gave it some time. If it doesn't do well, they won't invest in the song. If it does well, they will. My guess is that they lie about waiting for the song to pick up by itself and then sending it to the radio. If it's up to them, they will send the song to the radio regardless. I don't believe them. To sum it up, the song flopped. And no radio will follow. I expect either a delay of the album or a new single very soon. I don't hate the song but come on. Except it's intro, it's marshmallow music. Ego is her worst enemy and it's getting worse. She disses Walter A. and JD, Ariana, etc. Who's next? She has the talent but not the motivation anymore. Will she ever get it again before it's too late? Once again, the radio picking it up next week? Hell no.

This is a Mariah signatue song and whatever other people say and whether it becomes a hit or not or No.1 or not, I still damn like it very much. IMO this is much better than Beautiful and TAOLG and close to WBT, so let's hope and pray that this song will be her 19th and the album will become her 7th No.1. Come on guys, this is a very nice song in this time of her career and in this time where trashy songs are all over the place.

You're Mine promotion (41,380)
by Stephen from London, United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I've seen a few people say Mariah should be doing this or that to promote the song, but to be fair to her, she has been promoting it non stop since its release. I have been critical of Mariah in recent years for not making enough effort with promotion, but at the moment I do not think that she can be criticized. IMO, she has worked very hard. The only part where I would say there is room for improvement, is with mainstream media. If she actually appeared on The View, as planned, or Ellen, then that would have allowed her to share the song with the masses, but instead she seems to be focusing a lot on BET and radio, which is good, because she is concentrating on core rnb markets. However, I think she or her people should make better choices regarding where she promotes. A Wendy Williams appearance would be mega publicity for her. She should do it lol.

So you said that like in the story a mermaid turns into seafoam and dies. So in the video when you see Mariah as a mermaid and not glittery that's the part of the story where the mermaid isn't dying and when Mariah get's glittery and there is glitter on the bed that's the part where the mermaid would turn into seafoam. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Jeremey Carey / charts / iTunes (41,377)
by Edward from USA

|
|
Jeremey Carey, I agree with you about the charts, it has just been two days, and "You're Mine (Eternal)" hasn't been officially released to radio yet, it will be on the 18th. I hope they use the Clear Channel stations again to exposed the single so other radio station pick it up, and people start requesting and buying. The single has sold what it has so far based on Mariah's promotion and anticipation. Once the single impacts radio in a broader sense, people are going to start buying it, hopefully. I play "You're Mine (Eternal)" to a non fan, and she told me it reminded her of Daydream, and she thought it was a decent track, so I have a good feeling about this one.

Danny / Thirsty (41,375)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Yes Mariah mentioned in one of her radio interviews that she has a new song called Thirsty and she also mentioned the producer, I forgot the name though. I think she talked about it when people the interviewers were talking about Beyonce's Drunk In Love. What's funny is that when I heard her mention the name of the song, I also immediately thought about Migrate. Hopefully it will be an upbeat song like Migrate or maybe sultry like Drunk In Love. Another name that came to mind when she mentioned Thirsty was the song Crave that someone posted here months back and said it was for the Butterfly album but wasn't included as it was considered too sexual.

Please don't go around assuming that you are the only one who cracked the similarities between YME video and the original Little Mermaid and then call people dense and shallow. The fact that Mariah drew the ideas from the story is quite apparent. The whole costume discussion comes up because we all know Mariah isn't exactly known for her dancing skills and if she would have used an alternative way to hide her breasts at least she could move around the rainforest or at the very least move her hands more freely. The fact that the shots were beautiful and MC looking gorgeous isn't lost on anyone. If M as a little mermaid could find a piece of material to wear as a skirt, she could find one to cover her chest. You made your point, explaining something that probably some people didn't know, that's fine, but don't feel too free to call people out on their intelligence.

YM video / Nikki (41,373)
by Mara from United States
| |
|
|
Nikki that is an excellent interpretation of the video and I think you are on to something. I can totally see what you are saying. I think the video is visually beautiful. Yeah M is holding herself the entire time, but I have to say I think it is much classier and artistic (those water scenes) than beautiful. When Beautiful came out I think we all were wishing for a 50's back and forth with Mariah and Miguel. That was my wish for a video, with more of a storyline. But YM is very dark and has a mysterious feel to it, part of it reminded me of my favourite Butterfly. Is it a vanity video? Partly yes, but I think it is more fitting in this one. Anyone know why there was no banner advertising YM on iTunes? Is this IDJ not putting up the funds? Think of the downloads she would have had if there was a banner up there during the Valentine's weekend.
