About Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada: Proud lamb since "Vision Of Love" 1990

"The purity of a child's heart before it was ever broken" (46,343) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Mariah and family are certainly in my thoughts and prayers now. Although none of us who follow her work, and we're acquainted with many details of her life via "celebrity" we can't really ever claim to "know" her. Her music has been a huge part of my life's soundtrack since I was 12 when (Vision Of Love came out). The lack of promotion makes sense. Perhaps folks will cut her some slack during such a transition period. As Stacey mentioned, it takes two in a marriage and both Nick and Mariah are co-creators of their personal experience. No one is to blame, it just is what it is. Pretty telling that "It's a wrap" and "Betcha Gonna know" are on the deluxe version of MIAMTIC. That's not an accident. I have to say I respect her choice not to do a promo blitz for the record. I know it upset many lambs, but seriously, how would she genuinely promote this album without taking about the songs and potentially making the whole thing about "airing dirty laundry"? Her song lyrics on the album are clearly cathartic expression for her. Like a musical diary. Sending love to everyone involved.

Nice to see Memoirs getting some love (45,960) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love that album from start to finish. It is in my top 3 Mariah albums, although I know many have mentioned it is not their bag lol. So many gorgeous lyric phrases, witty musical references, and down right funny jokes. To me it is a Summery record. It was always amazing to me how every track sounds current yet there's a vintage quality at the same time, reminiscent of albums like Janet Jackson's 1993 album, "Janet".

I love the album (44,232) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I've listened about 4 times through and I think Mariah put together a solid gem. Even as someone who doesn't always groove to her heavier hip-hop influences, there's not one song on this album I would skip over. Yes, her voice may not have the fullness it did 20 years ago, but she can sing. There's no one who can sing like her. Cry sounds like it could have been on Music Box or Daydream vocally. Faded is catchy. Dedicated is so much fun to listen to. Thirsty hooks you in, Make It Look Good is happy and perfect for summer. I don't know how one wouldn't get that chorus along with Stevie's musicianship stuck in their head. YDKWTD is pure fun. How do you not tap your foot to that? Lol. Heavenly is off the charts fantastic - wow. Talk about throwback to 1994. I might even like it more than FLAB which is really saying something. I'm a huge George Micheal fan, and I'm stoked she covered One More Try. I wasn't expecting it to sound like his version. As for the charts. I really have no clue. I'm just happy the album is so solid.

I finally found a way to hear it.

iTunes Radio (44,088) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I'm in Canada (where iTunes radio isn't available) and thus why I haven't been able to get "First Play" to work. Does anyone know of an alternative so I can listen?

TAOLG / You're Mine Eternal (41,893) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Personally, I never considered either song as a "lead" single for the new album. IMO TAOLG was like a personal love note to the fans who have been waiting such a long time for her to release new music. YME IMO was Mariah's way of being "festive" and tiding people over who are still waiting for the album. I can't go down the road of worrying about the "state of Mariah's career" because I don't believe things are as serious with MC as they might appear to be. Sure, some professional/management changes could be very helpful for MC, but I don't think things are as dire as some feel either.

Bravo. Your post made me laugh. I think Mariah herself would get a kick out of that. Lol.

You're Mine (Eternal) (41,513) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love the song. The hook has been eternally (pun intended) in my head since I played it the first time. Lol. Whether it does or doesn't chart well, I think it's a fantastic song that clearly delivers what general music lovers who enjoy music - have come to expect from Mariah's brand. It is simple, yet still delivers the vocals only she can give. The opening part of the track makes me think of sparkles musically, so it's fitting she's covered in glitter in the video. I like the video for this one, I can understand why some feel it's boring and maybe want something other than beauty shots. It's understandable, I just thought it was simple. Mariah likes to feel sexy and feminine - it's her "thing". Sometimes she does stuff for videos that I personally would never be comfortable doing. But, hey, she's not me. Who am I to judge her? If I judge her I'm only comparing her to how I would judge myself. As for the interviews, the "diva" thing for me has always been Mariah's celebrity stage persona. There's so much more to her than that, I always take that stuff as her way of being goofy and not taking life so seriously. Much of the content they ask for on radio interviews or on MTV is pretty superficial in nature as it is. A big part of it too is that I think Mariah's at a point in her life she's choosing to find the joy in everything she's achieved so much and had a work ethic that wouldn't be healthy for anybody. Really, what's left at this point? If fun means showing up with chocolates, candy, and splash, or going on the Today Show in a robe, that's what it means for her. I've got no desire to change her. True, I might not like everything all the time, but she's got to be who she is. We all do. Wishing people would change is just a recipe to cause yourself frustration. I'd rather focus on what makes me happy. We're all evolving beings, so wherever she's at now in her life is where she's choosing to be.

Dance remixes iTunes? (41,362) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Anyone know if the single will be available to download Tuesday? Nice to "see" you Stacey, I was curious what your thoughts were. Funny thing, I found out another artist I really like is also releasing their album May 6th. Looks like that's going to be a great day for new music at my house lol.

Gilbert / remix (41,300) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada

The Jumpsmokers posted an official remix on their Facebook page. MDJ posted a link on their website. I don't see anything on iTunes either, but MC's Facebook page says dance remixes will drop today.

The video for You're Mine (Eternal) (41,271) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I actually quite like this one. I wasn't a big fan of the choices made for the Almost Home video or the original #Beautiful (I prefer the video for Hermosa, because it seemed more natural fun and playful then the original version). I can understand where people are coming from being tired of the vanity shots and the shots where Mariah displays her assets so to speak. I like this one though. I think it's tasteful and she looks like a glittering goddess of love. The water shots are mermaid-like and she looks beautiful. Sometimes when a concept is too staged, Mariah doesn't seem natural or comfortable. JMO. I think Trey's shots made sense because it's her thinking about the guy in the song visually, and I thought the tattoo or note on his chest was interesting. Have had the hook of the song stuck in my mind all day. Lol.

Licia, iTunes (41,171) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Blake is right, you literally have to search Mariah's name and the song title for it to come up. I couldn't download it before I did this. You might also try logging out of iTunes and logging back in. I freaking love the song, both versions. It'll be interesting to see how it does. If you ask me, it's a hit. That last note just blows my mind. I think the WBT part is accurate. I love the M.I.N.E. bit in the remix version. Brilliant. Have a great day, everyone.

MDJ (41,081) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Sad to see it go. That site and MCA are my two fave Mariah sites. And re my last post, I am not condoning leaking material, I am just saying it's hard to avoid in this day and age when most people carry recording devices in their pockets via smart phone. The person who recorded it was probably thinking of the experience like a concert and not giving any thought to the damage done to single sales.

New song is freakng awesome (41,066) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I can't wait to buy it. The whole vibe to it is awesome, and that ending is classic, stellar Mariah. It's too bad about the leak, it's risky when you pre-tape a performance before the single is out - especially when a massive chunk of the population has smatphones that record. Sigh.

Mariah's interviews (40,328) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I really don't see much difference between the recent interviews and the ones earlier like Ellen when she bought her a nightie and slippers and was showing Ellen how she dabs perfume (with Forever) or when she was on Live in her robe with a stuffed animal ect ect ect I thought both recent interviews on Today and Watch What Happens Live was just Mariah being a goof ball. *shrug* I think there is stuff going on behind the scenes with the label - that's pretty blatant. But, I'm personally not concerned about her mental state. It seems to me, the "rambling" people mention is simply Mariah's way of goofing off, being like a kid, and not taking things so seriously. My mom knows I love MC for example and she loves her voice, but she can't stand how she talks in interviews. Lol Maybe it just rubs some people the wrong way and that's fine. I'm not seeing any major cause for alarm though. JMO.

Today Show (40,188) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I thought the interview was light and fun. Two woman gushing about Christmas, decorating, family festivities, Santa photos and sparkly shoes lol. Not everything is so serious.

It was a rough performance (DC tree lighting) (40,142) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
No denying that, but as Licia said, she knows it was not her finest hour. What's done is done. I'm positive she feels bad about it and is embarrassed. I think talk of retirement is taking things too far. True, she's not 1990 Mariah anymore, but I disagree that The Rockefeller Center performance can also be considered rough. I thought she was fantastic, and she's still one of the only singers on the planet who can sound like a studio recording or better live (when her vocal is on point).

National tree lighting (40,093) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
She couldn't breathe for some reason, and the tempo seemed off to me as well. She mentions in this video (at the end) her disdain for this performance. I could feel it. I got to respect that. I can't win them all.

Joy To The World was awesome (40,067) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
Mariah has become such a personal part of my holiday experience over the years, and this year is no exception. Will, I so agree about "One Child". It's a stunning piece. She brought me to tears during the Christmas in Washington performance of it. There was just something so beautiful about that moment and singing the song while carrying her first babies.

Will (40,006) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
That is my take on TAOLG as well. I think Mariah drew upon many experiences to write the song, but it isn't autobiographical in the sense that she set out to write about one person or situation. It can be about the end of a romance, a friendship or even just something you feel done with that isn't serving you anymore. (The relationship metaphor is just such a natural choice when writing songs.) Yes, she referenced Tommy during the inpomtu Fallon fan concert, but that is a widely public example of the process of "letting go" that has been talked about for years. She's not revealing anything new there. That's just one account that's pretty obvious because really what's left to say that hasn't been said? I think she intended for the song to be ambiguous. Perhaps not her strongest lyrical achievement as others have mentioned, in comparison to her other work. For example, the bit about possessions outside the "kitchen window", I get the feeling it might not be as literal as it might sound. Not everyone who has chosen to let of something would throw things out the window, but it is one way of expressing the emotion behind needing to purge or clear things from your life that don't need to be there. I don't get the feeling she sat down and was like "I am gong to write a song about this person at this time in my life." I think it's more about getting in touch with a personal process that often happens repeatedly as you evolve and change which is why it "ain't easy".

American Dad (39,963) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I thought she did fantastic voice work. I did a double take. She took on a whole other character. I just have to take a moment to say how much I appreciate Mariah. I love a vast amount of music, but no other artist has captivated me in quite the same way that she has for 23 years. I do feel that her music has been a soundtrack in my life. Today I stumbled across the video of Patti Labelle singing Hero in tribute to Mariah in 2012. I was again truly moved by MC's reaction. It's really easy for people to get caught up in the celebrity stuff and yes the diva stuff is part of the celeb persona, but most of the time she makes fun of that herself. Underneath all the glam, Mariah is genuine and humble. The real deal.

Wow (39,861) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I love it when she rifs like that so much. I'd love it if she did a full album of Gospel/Jazz one day. There's nothing quite like her voice. I wish that this would silence the "Mariah can't sing anymore" talk, but sadly it probably won't. Lol.

I really love this song (39,850) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
I've been playing it a lot the past few days. The more I listen, the more I love it. I have to say, I have played the fan surprise video a few times, it's adorable. I'm glad they pulled it off because the reactions are awesome.

I also agree with Stephen (39,832) by Deedre aka MiTodoChop @HBF from Canada
In that I think the Facebook post was not needed from my pov. Of course, I'm not MC though. She's done this before too. Remember Michael Jackson's funeral? At the time I didn't feel she needed to go on GMA and apologize to the public. I realize the vocal wasn't her best, but her performance was understandable under the circumstances, yet it was important enough to her to apologize, so she did.
