MC and Olivia Dean bop (113,473) by MusicfanJ from Germany
That's a cool idea. I would love a song with Mariah and Olivia Dean. I can allready see the video you described. Yes, for the retro vibes. I always love a soulful song.

Charmbracelet to Caution vocals compared (113,453) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"All you have to do is watch the Mariah's World series to see a glimpse of the erratic behavior." That's why I wasn't able to watch the "show" back then. I tried but after a few minutes I had to quit because it felt strange and not worthy to watch. What you described sounds indeed terrible. That was really a bad dark time. I think Nick Cannon was the reason everything went down. After him she was never the same. And Stella was the final straw. What a nightmare. During Charmbracelet Mariah seemed down-to earth again, still struggling and healing but on a good way. I hope she takes care of herself and stays away from the wrong people. At a certain age one should become wiser and never interact with trash people again. I really hope Mariah has one or two people who are normal and are not on the payroll and care for her. I want to see a happy Mariah again.

Sugar Sweet (113,427) by MusicfanJ from Germany
This song has grown on me. But I still like the solo version better. I'm happy that this version is on the album. "Sugar Sweet" sounds radio friendly. It should have been a top ten hit in the US and NII should have been a hit in Europe.

MTV Unplugged (113,424) by MusicfanJ from Germany
It's indeed a very interesting thought. "Just focused on creating soulful, genuine and sincere music." Less concerts, smaller venues, less fame, but still enough to live a wealthy life, but more relaxed and maybe the voice would still be there. Of course we will never know. Yes, she conquered the world. But the costs were high for it. But I think she wanted to be the ultimate global superstar, because of her early experiences. So she gave everything and beyond. The MTV Unplugged is music history. She was so good and showed everyone that she's a true artist, with a voice "out of this world". I also think she looked real confident. She knew she was unstoppable. Her little shyness here and there makes it even more adorable. I always loved the combination of being so sweet but at the same time confident and smart. That was Mariah for me. The live version of "If it's over" is unbelievable. And "Someday" is so cool. I love the EP.

Where life begins Madonna (113,413) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yeah, I guess I know what you mean. Sometimes it can be hard if you look at an artist at their prime and realize those days are gone. (I always felt sad with MJ, because he was such a good looking man who changed too much with the optics. But his talent never left and was always there.) Plus we realize that when stars are getting older, that our time flies by too. That's why I'm happy if some of "my stars" are still around even if the golden days are over. I also liked the comparison that someone wrote here (I forgot who) that Mariah's voice is like a rare flower. That can't last for a long time. Very poetic and it might have some truth on it.

Can't Let Go (113,412) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes, it was perfect and still is. The song suits the early 90ies. Classic ballad, beautiful video in black and white and a stunning young Mariah with a voice that was a natural force. It should have been a number one during that time. It's one of my favourite Mariah songs, it has the certain magic.

Where life begins Madonna (113,402) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I like some songs of Madonna. I've never been a fan, but I like her early hits and "Ray of light". "Frozen" was huge back then, it's my favourite. "Hung up" was fun too.

But I don't think it's sad that the legends are getting old. It's sad, if they die young, like Heath Ledger, Amy, the "Club 27". It's cool that Cher and Madonna are still here and doing their thing. Or look at Ringo Starr and Tom Jones. They are still "cool guys". As long as an "oldie" is fit and healthy, it's not sad at all. And to age naturally [doesn't] take away the charisma. I love Helen Mirren and Andie McDowell for the natural lifestyle. Mrs. Presley is spooky for me, I don't like "masks". That's a bit sad, if someone can't age. An old Robert Redford had still more charisma than all the youngsters. I miss him and his wonderful talent as an actor.

Article: Mariah on Rock Hall nomination, Glitter and lost grunge album (113,387) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Well, that was a nice, little and honest interview.

"What was it that made you feel like you shouldn't have done it?"
MC: Because it was a disastrous flop. [laughs]

That was funny. I really hope this time Mariah gets to the Rock and Roll of Fame Hall. I still love Glitter (always had since its release) and it's good to know that Mariah finally loves it again.

90s and 2000s MC (113,360) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I miss the carefree Mariah so much too. I have made peace with the voice changes. Her music catalogue is outstanding and will live forever. It has everything. But I really want to see a fun, happy looking Mariah again. The diva-role needs a break. Yes, she still looks absolutely beautiful, but I would love a little more focus of the music or next projects.

Type Dangerous and why it failed (113,327) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I don't think it's a potential number one hit. Also it's a wonderful song. But the charts are so "strange" nowadays. What does the UK fans think? I think "NII" had the most hit potential. Too bad it wasn't released or pushed more.

"Dreamlover" was very strong as a single. It's so Mariah at its best. It has such a good vibe. And how I love the remix. I just can't get over the 90ies. Lol.

Type Dangerous and why it failed (113,320) by MusicfanJ from Germany
What a great post. I have the same thought about all the mentioned things. You described it perfectly. With the "current personality and her performance level", that's a good point too. I wonder what the answer could be about the current personality and performances? I don't know the answer but I would say jazz, blues and retro soul suits better than hip-hop or modern RnB songs for a legend like Mariah nowadays. "My love" is a highlight on HFIA and such a beautiful song and cover.

I had a dream (113,302) by MusicfanJ from Germany
All things would really be like a wonderful dream. Too good to be true. But maybe one or two things will happen in the future. I had to laugh about number 10. Who will be the wealthy coach? Lol.

HFIA breakdown (113,294) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I also love "Breakdown" since it has been released in 97. I even love the rap on it. A perfect RnB song with a cool video. Was the song about Derek Jeter just like "My all" and "The roof"? I forgot it. Anyway I feel very nostalgic with it too.

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,275) by MusicfanJ from Germany
The funny thing is most people don't like her trademark "the whistle". I loved it on her debut and "Emotions". There are fantastic songs like "Dreamlover", "Bliss" and "Bringin' on the heartbreak" with her epic whistle. But it was clearly overused and not needed in many other songs. Her deeper tone has the real magic. But I would be afraid of surgery, if it's not needed, because of health issues. I guess there's always a risk, no matter how good a doctor is. I would first try to loose the bad habits and relax.

The prime music era (113,233) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"What happened to music and true artistry?" I ask myself the same almost every day. Yes, those were the days. I'm very lucky to have witnessed the golden era of music and movies. And I will never forget how good it was. "When you believe" is outstanding and will always sound good.

Nodules (113,232) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I hope not. Could it be because of the meds and private sorrow? I also don't think it's because of champagne. Just here and there a glass won't destroy everything (of course it's not good for a singer). Unless you drink every day and with high-proof alcohol, that would be very bad for the voice and health. Whitney Houston is really a sad example with many others, how a beautiful, extremely talented human has "everything" and throws it away because of drugs. I just want to see Mariah happy and healthy again. But I fear, she's too lonely. And no diamond is a good friend in real life. All the luxury is nothing compared to have real friends, family or a true partner. I wish Mariah to find that finally. But with so much fame, it must be very hard. Even for a "normal" one it's not easy.

More youthful hairstyle please (113,221) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes, since the last two years I often have to think of Marilyn Monroe and Mariah. We all know Mariah adores Marilyn. MM was a diva, sex symbol, most famous woman on earth (besides with the queen, same age haha), plus she had the hardest childhood and was such a beautiful, unhappy woman. I don't want to see Mariah so unhappy in the future. Mariah was always a diva, but it has become a bit too much. I mean the image. It has become hard to see/recognize Mariah the person, the singer behind that big image. I guess it's a shield. But I often miss the natural, carefree Mariah. And it's true, elegance ages everyone. If you want to look younger or youthful, take casual clothes. Everyone looks older with extravaganza and jewelry. It's normal. Non-fans always say the word diva when it comes to Mariah. Personally, I don't like that this is the first thought they have about her. She is so much more and it makes me sad, that it seems only fans/lambs know and remember it.

Grammy, songwriting, Adam Lambert, etc (113,220) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Oh yes. I love my 90ies playlist and cd's too. For every mood a perfect song or album. It also works like a time-machine with all the good memories. Proud "90ies kid" for life.

What MC really needs moving forward (113,212) by MusicfanJ from Germany
"I say bring back Stella." This is a joke right? No way, please. This woman was a nightmare (even when she made one or two good business choices at the beginning). She almost destroyed Mariah. I'm still trying to forget that this woman and her daughter or relatives were connected to Mariah. Dark times were these (Yoda speaks).

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,203) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I just searched for the [German] press and one in UK. They were positive. But then I read the comments on YouTube, and they were really mean and negative. Most were saying no life, statue and so on. I find them way too harsh.

Performance (113,202) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Absolutely. Olivia Dean is wonderful. I discovered her because of the TV commercials. I thought finally one new artist who [doesn't] look vulgar and trashy. What a wonder. A beautiful, classy woman who seems very nice. I even got a bit of young Mariah vibes. Of course not because of the voice, but because of her natural look and vibe during the early 90ies. Just like you described it.

Mariah's voice still has magic. I just wish to see her happy again. Her little smile at the end seemed sad in [Milano]. I thought of "Looking in". I hope I'm wrong and she was just nervous. Someone wrote Mariah did a blues version with [Volare]. I think she did her own version (like with all covers). And I think she sounded really good. The tone problems were because of the TV channel broadcast. On the internet the sound was clear.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,186) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I believe only fans saw the sadness. Because we "know" her. Although I liked Mariah's appearance and the medley of the two songs, I "felt" the sadness too. Or is it just an imagination? And it was the pure stage fright? The critics from the press are pretty good, I've read only one that was not so nice. But most articles are very positive and nice.

Article: Mariah Carey nails Italian rendition of "Volare" (113,181) by MusicfanJ from Germany
I really enjoyed "Volare". It had the vibes from old Hollywood with Mariah's unique softly tone. She looked beautiful, yes also very tense but with so many people watching no wonder. I think the sound seemed sometimes a bit metal, I'm not so into technics, maybe it comes from the big stadium. (I noticed it with Laura Pausini too.) It was wonderful to see Mariah on prime time TV live in Milano. I hope she can enjoy beautiful Italy and stay maybe for one or two days before flying back. Italy is always good for a trip: the food, the friendly people, the culture, the magical landscape. I had so many beautiful holidays there.
