How can I get a message to Mariah? (111,720)
by Mimi from UK
| |
|
|
I want to warn Mariah about someone in her life that I'm pretty certain is betraying her, but I don't want to break her heart. Should I stay out of it or warn Mariah, before she's in too deep?

I Won't Allow It (111,659)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

He can be lucky to be tolerated. That selfish clown who really brought the drama is only embarassing. "Poor" kids with such a father. A divorce can happen to everybody, but this man is truly a narcissist, no woman with a brain and self-respect could endure him. I hope Mariah stays away from him as far as possible. I can imagine what she now really thinks of him. So it's better not talk about it with the media.

I Won't Allow It (111,655)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Something must have recently gone down between Nick and Mariah because Mariah flatly refused to talk about co-parenting with Nick and honestly I don't blame her because he brings the drama, six baby mamas. But I wonder what happened because even post divorce they were amicable for the kids and now it's like she just tolerates him. Makes sense he has gotten progressively more annoying and her kids are now a bit older so she probably doesn't feel the need to put on a show with Nick.

HFIA (111,626)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

It will easily outlast "Caution". With HFIA Mariah's has created an album that really feels like the good old days. Music without too many producers, that doesn't need to sound current. It has a timeless sound except for "Mi" and "Confetti and Champagne" which get better and better too with each listen by the way. All songs blend so good together. Mariah surpassed herself with HFIA.

I've been addicted to the album. There is no skip to this album. HFIA is perfect, I can see why it's the album title. It's 6 and a half minutes yet it still feels short. The first 30 minutes of the song is a masterpiece, the cry in Mariah's voice it sounds like no one. Another great addition to Mariah's discography. I think this album will eventually outlast Caution.

Maybe because she's had so many "frogs" in her life? Where is the real prince? Let love take over, sounds like a beautiful song. Sorry, since HFIA I'm on the Mariah rush. I have to watch the live video, if it's so good. It's nice to hear all the postive reactions.

I didn't know that. So it makes the song even smarter. IWAI is allready a favourite, I loved it by the first listen. Somehow Mariah sounds like the debut-Mariah on some parts, the cool-carefree Mariah. Who is cool without trying. I hope you know what I mean. I just love it. All the melodies are so good and "so Mariah".

Article: Mariah Carey's music knowledge goes deep (111,613)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

This is cool. Mariah's music knowledge is of course one reason she's so good beside her extreme talent. I'm sure she knows everything that is worth to be known. I just imagine a teen Mariah listen to an Ozzy Osbourne song and had to smile. By the way, I also like Tupac's "I ain't mad at cha" the best from all his songs.

HFIA reviews versus Caution reviews (111,603)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
HFIA has a high quality and feels like a "real Mariah Carey album" not just like a new RnB album with Mariah on it and "hot" producers and rappers. There's a certain magic on it which "Caution" was missing. I hear debut, Emotions, Music Box, Daydream, a little Butterfly and TEOM vibes from this album. So all her greatest ones that flows to this one record. At the same time it feels new and also like a tribute to real music with the retro soul elements. Mariah did it again, this album is fantastic from start to finish.

HFIA reviews versus Caution reviews (111,600)
by BFF from United States
| |
|
|
I've noticed that the reviews for "Here For It All" are much more lukewarm than the reviews for "Caution". The only way I can explain this is that "Here For It All" is an album that is not pandering to critics or a particular audience but is an album Mariah recorded for herself and for the "ride or die" fans. It's the kind of album that "Me I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" could have been if it had been released in its original iteration as "The Art of Letting Go", without the clutter of unnecessary, subpar tracks like "One More Try", "Heavenly", "Money" and those awful cut-and-paste "remixes" of "It's a Wrap" and "Betcha Gon' Know".
In contrast, "Caution" was an album that was rushed and lacked Mariah's signature touch because she was working with so many different producers. It was also clear that the label was pressuring her into working with current producers who don't understand her or her music. It also felt like "damage control" for the Stella years and like was pandering exclusively to the folks who became fans during "The Emancipation of Mimi" and later eras.
So many of the writers reviewing "Here For It All" seem to lack an understanding of Mariah's artistry and music and inventing things to criticize. In the Pitchfork review, the writer zeroes in on Mariah's purported "self involvement" as something to criticize. What recording artist isn't self-involved to a degree? I promise you that Beyonce and Taylor Swift are just as self-involved if not more so.
I also read a line where one writer claimed that "Memoirs" is a better album than this one. Say what? Who are these people? Have they ever listened to a Mariah album? There is not a single song on "Memoirs" that I like better than anything on "Here For It All".

I wasn't so impressed with "Sugar sweet" when I heard the version with the two other singers. But since I heard the solo version on the album, I really like it. The solo version is great and fun. There are no skips on the album. When it's over, you want to start again because it's so good. Pure Mariah shines on every song. I also think "My love" is the strongest vocally. But again it is such a pleasure to listen to the whole album. You hear Mariah the artist. It even takes her whole music catalogue higher. Cheers, cheers, cheers.

Yes, everything on the album is great. And I like the solo version of "Sugar Sweet" more than the single version. Mariah has such great taste in cover songs. I love this cover of "My Love". Hopefully "Play This Song" performs respectably. I cannot wait to hear what's on the upcoming deluxe edition of the album.

Interesting thoughts. However I find the lyrics of HFIA so sad. I'm not sure what the song is really about, what do the native speakers think and how do you interpret it? Did you notice that this time in the booklet of the CD there's no thanks to her fans/lambily? It's the first time ever. Maybe because it's completely deticated to her mother and children. I also wonder who said to her: You're not supposed to do this album. Lucky for us she did it. The album feels special, indeed like a farewell album.

I hear more like a tribute to lambs and that she's here for it all til the end. I think she wrote this during her struggles with losing her family at the same time. For a while I thought it's about the twins, and she's gonna be there until the end, now that it's just them.
But I always thought that Mariah thinks of Lambs are fam. So ultimately the lyrics is about that, her career and her parasocial bond with lambs, virtual sleepovers. That she's here for it all, even if you abandon her.
Red carpets in Cannes and applause But if you leave (when lambs no longer want her), Still baby, I'm here for it all.
But it would be preposterous to sing to your fans. So it's intentionally ambiguous for everyone to relate wherever they want to place that thought. The second half shift is a literal shift. I think she's going to move from pop to gospel and classic standards maybe which is how the entire album sounds. If you notice, there's not a single rap feature in the album. It's a tribute and once she shifts, she is saying that she hope you'll still be there.

Here For It All is brilliant (111,525)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

It is fantastic. I've listenend to it twice now and I'm really surprised. Somehow I knew this album would surprise me. My first thought on it: I love "Play this song" and "I won't allow it". The whole 70ies vibe totally gets me. "Caution" was modern RnB, this album is mostly retro 70ies soul with modern RnB elements and I guess Randy said Disco-Gospel. I like "Sugar sweet" the solo version by Mariah much better than with the two ladies. It's not so overload. "Nothing is impossible" is a highlight of the album. The lyrics totally gets me and it has such a new tone for a Mariah song, but familiar at the same time. I could somehow imagine this on "Music Box". Strange I know. The cover "My love" is another highlight. I like "Jesus I do", I didn't expected that the gospel song has such a groove. With "Here for it all" the song I had more expectations but with the minute 4 it's almost meditative and I hear a little vanishing vibe. That's cool. I think this will be a song that needs time and will get better and better which each listen. The only song that I don't like yet is "Mi", maybe because of the lyrics. But it's really an interesting album that is different, which is good (I'm happy that there are no rappers this time) but it really feels free and new.

This album is fantastic. It has the same relaxed vibe as Roberta Flack's classic albums from 1970s. I love that the sound is defiantly throwback and that the album is not trying to be current at all. "Nothing is Impossible", "Play This Song", "Here for It All", and "In Your Feelings" are my favorites. "Type Dangerous" has definitely grown on me and works really well in the context of the album. I listened to the version of the album on Apple Music and waiting for my CD copy to come so I can hear the solo version of "Sugar Sweet" in the context of the album.
This has been well worth the wait, and it definitely tops "Caution" in my opinion. I think keeping the hip-hop influences to a minimum was the right call this time around.

I never heard of this kindergarten TikTok, influencer or Instagram wannabe or whatever. Of course he has a crush on her. Who has not? But I really hope they are not dating. A grown-up woman doesn't need another fan-boy. She's had enough of them and it didn't work. So I wish she finds an equal partner, who's not only admiring but a grown-up man who is true and not just playing. A stable character, down to earth and really caring not just for the fame, money and prestige Mariah is giving "automatically".

I made the mistake of not turning the volume off my phone before I went on Mariah's Insta and well I heard a little of "Play this song". Good critics for the new album (111,367)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I was surprised to read good critics about her new album in a German online newspaper today (Welt-News) which I wanted to share with you. The critic wrote, he was able to hear the album in advance and was very pleased. It's a combination of RnB, powerballads, adult-contemporary and hip-hop influences. So everything she's known for and loved the last 35 years. He also said "Here for it all" is one of her best ballads and worth the wait. Wow, now I have high expectations. He liked the self-irony of some of her lyrics which is very rare for a non-fan too. I was almost shocked to read something so positive. So now I can't wait to hear the full album like in the good old days.

I get why some of you may be disappointed by the album's length, especially due to the time we've patiently waited for new material. I for one don't mind it. The appeal of Caution was how concise it was and that it felt like a tight, deliberate production. Shorter albums are easier to spin for me. As I don't do playlists and listen to an album end to end, it's much easier for me to play Emotions, Daydream or Unplugged than it is to book an afternoon off work to listen to the 97 tracks on Charmbracelet, and sit there watching my hair turn grey as she enters into the whispery chorus of Lullaby for the 27th time. Okay, you should just hug him goodbye. I get it.

That's good to know. I prefer longer albums and songs. I want something for my money. Lol. But seriously 2.49 is really short for a song. The same with "Type Dangerous", it should have been 30 seconds longer for my taste. Do we get one "Beautiful ones" running time for compensation? Maybe the gospel song? Oh I checked it. The one I was looking for is "Here for it all" with 6:37 minutes.

My prayer (111,287)

Absolutely. After the nightmare with Ike, Tina had this wonderful second husband. Mariah so deserves a husband like him too. Mariah is the queen of love songs, that's why it's even more sad what happened to her with men in her own private life. This one soul-mate must be out there. I believe it's the complete opposite of her "type".

What's wrong with Mariah (111,272)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I would say the high heels could cause it, there are poison for the feet. But at the age of 30/31, that's hard to believe. I know a woman who had that hip sugery at 56 which is very "young" too. She always had high heels on. I will never understand why damage the foot just for a certain look. I can understand if a woman is very small and wants to look higher, but for a tall woman it makes no sense. You can wear chic shoes with a small heel, boots or cool sneakers, they even makes you younger. So it's a win-win.

This video claims she had hip replacement surgery back in 2000? That sounds pretty outlandish - having hip replacement at the age of 30/31. What possibly could have been happening at that time to cause such a surgery? Doesn't make any sense to me.

99 was a fun year to be a Mariah fan. Rainbow was the most pop album from her with a touch of RnB. But it made sense, it was the time of Britney Spears and boybands. So 98 Degrees were a perfect match for "TGIFY". Joe was also a good choice. It's not one of her top 5 number one songs, but it's a cute little song. The remixes are really good. RnB at its best.

That's my biggest wish for Mariah, to find a real partner/man. (Beside health of course, the most important thing.) Not a clown or another player or wannabe. I think Mariah's chosen men are mostly awful. The same with Mr. Anderson, I hope they only make music together. Just business. For a serious partner, he's a no no. Bryan and Mariah were a beautiful couple. He seemed like he really cared for her. And as a human he seemed to have a good heart and spirit. It's so sad it didn't work. I remember the little video where they were playing table-tennis together. Mariah was looking so happy and normal. No diva, just a woman who enjoys the time with her man.

I agree, Bryan is fine and dresses decent compared to Anderson. Mariah looked so happy when they were together. I really wish they were still a thing because they made a great couple. I truly felt Bryan really loved her and wasn't out for her money etc. For a while I felt MC had finally found her man but I guess maybe Bryan wanted a family or there were other reasons why they broke up. Even with Nick I never really cared for him or took him serious because he was sort of goofy, and well look what happened he cheated on her. Like how dare you. I do hope Mariah finds love again one day and that it lasts.

Mariah in Brazil (111,241)

Yes, I remember you're right. But this "eternally twelve thing" is also unhealthy and a bit weird. It means that you are responsible for nothing because you're a kid. The same with the time. Nothing's wrong with growing older and wiser. When Mariah was very young she seemed very wise and smart. I'm just tired of MC being obsessed with eternally 12. As you wrote after Crustella it was the worst. And Nick was also a nightmare at the end.

I get what you're saying, but Mariah doesn't exactly operate on a normal timeline. If anything, she's eternally twelve, remember?

Article: Mariah Carey announces Las Vegas Holiday shows (111,219)

What do you think about the Vegas shows? Good idea, yes or no and why? A friend of mine wanted to go to the New York show last year, Beacon theatre I guess. I went to the Christmas show in Berlin a few years ago (2018), and the show was really good and the Christmas spirit was there. It was also fun to see Bryan Tanaka and even the kids were on stage too. Time flies.
