I Don't (110,710) by jaker20 from US The video for H.A.T.E.U. is also shockingly bad. I was even more chocked to find out that Bret Ratner directed it who directed her more iconic videos. The bathing suit is so unflattering, I can’t believe she let them put her in it. There is no way she selected it. But again, looking low-budget for a high caliber director. It bothered me so much, because I absolutely love love the song. This happened a lot in the 2010s, solid songs wasted by bad videos. #Beautiful is another one. I would say it's one of Mariah's last videos that I like. After that, a lot of her videos are so random with very little to no concept. I don't like the video for I Don't but what I really liked about it is her makeup. It's the best it's ever looked IMO. I like her outfits in the video for Say Somethin' the most. Mtv Video Vanguard Award (110,632) by jaker20 from US Maybe they will release a new video during the show. I read somewhere here that Mariah's shooting a video in Brazil, so hopefully that's for the new single or Sugar Sweet. Mariah has done some really amazing videos. I even like the ones where she's just singing or pretending to sing. I thought the video production of "O Holy Night" is really good, and that's one of the reasons that its become a standard in the album. On her new career path as a Christmas lady, she should lift a few songs from that album and release a solid video every holiday season every year. She's promoting the same album anyway right? Miss You Most At Christmas could be a new classic for her if she does. The two singles from Music Box (Hero and Without You) are also well produced videos. I know people will think "that's just her singing in a concert", "they have no concept". But if you watch the full concert, you just know from the production of those two sets that they thought they will be singles, they put a lot more effort in the camera angles, lighting, Mariah's performance is more animated, audience captured, and all. I mean don't you just hate it when Mariah belts a note in 90s and she's out of focus and its not captured on camera for posterity's sake? They did that a lot in Top of Pops when she was at her peak. It's sacrilege. Anyway, from a concept perspective, my favorites are: Shake It Off, the back-to-back serialized style of Its Like That / We Belong Together, Obsessed (with Mariah pretend-acting as two characters, and one of my all-time favorites Honey. MTV Video Vanguard Award (110,629) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway Mariah is reported to recieve the MTV Video Vanguard Award at this years MTV Video Music Awards. I am absolutly over the top happy about the news, but it is almost also the epitome of irony, that Mariah, who has never won an MTV Video Music Award, will receive the top notch award. It's actually ridiculous and almost an offence to Mariah. But maybe it is MTV's way of apologizing to Mariah for never have given her an award before. Mariah gets respect in places she was ridiculed before, but after many years she gets recognition, as has have been the case many times before. Mariah will may not get her "Believe"-moment, but to get this award, will be equivalent to the success of Cher, in that sense that this will give much more publicity for Mariah in years, it's almost a 18th number one hit-moment, when she surpassed Elvis, but also because this is a freaking nice award to get at 56, after 35 years in the business. We all know she has a secret rocker side that's waiting to be unleashed. I wonder if we will get a 30th anniversary edition of the "Daydream" album. Surely we will get something since Mariah has done something for "Music Box", "Butterfly", "Rainbow", and "The Emancipation of Mimi"? It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,579) by jaker20 from US I like that many care for her, often it's well-intentioned. But sometimes it's just many here are projecting. It's too tooo too much. She is already in constant microscrope. If it's not the breast just a few days ago, then the makeup, then the everything, then she's a zombie, and not herself. (I admit I do it too sometimes, it's contagious, so I often check myself, and this is my first and last on this topic.) I feel all this focus on her being bipolar, and people diagnosing her like she's a patient, is actually adding more anxiety. And frankly pretty pointless, albeit "we have the right to post what we want". The negative is too much sometimes, that for some it's all they talk about. In the end, it is her life, she has a new "normal". She has her own baseline of what is normal. She looked great in London, happy, cheerful, she seems to have high energy, walking on her own, interacting with fans, having a time of her life, and the last few concerts smashed. I want Mariah to do the most unexpected collaborations, like an up and coming folk pop artist or an artist who is big in the Spanish speaking countries or in Asia. Something totally unexpected. Mariah is going to Brazil to shoot a video, hopefully these ideas reach her team. American pop music charts are no longer cool and the market has dried up, the best creatives are elsewhere, and that's where the money is. Back to chart obsession (110,532) by Randy from USA Jaker for once we agree. People will love a song and then when it doesn't do well, it was a bad single choice. Mariah does it too. One of my favorite songs is Through The Rain and Mariah has bad talked that. Although during the promotional tour, she said it was an anthem. The same with Bye Bye, which I love. Mariah talks about how that was a bad single choice, but she promoted it everywhere. No one knows whether a song will be a hit because if they did, everyone would have number ones. I knew the first time I heard Type: Dangerous and Sugar Sweet they weren't hits. Cool songs. Not hits. Can I bring Adele up for the fifty million time? Why does only Adele understand that a heartfelt ballad as a lead single will go to number one because it reaches across generations and music delivery formats? I was disgusted to watch Hello make 25 go diamond and Easy on Me make 30 sell in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, and for as much as I love those two songs, I'm sitting by thinking, Mariah does ballads better than anyone. And yet she keeps churning out modern r&b. Final thought and it's still a repeat. I don't know what Mariah or Gamma thought releasing these songs so early on an album so short. Was there a plan B if the songs didn't work? Type Dangerous shoulda came out the last week of July and Sugar Sweet shoulda came out the last week of August for a September 26 release. There's no real incentive from recording and charting anymore, especially for "older" acts. Beyonce toured purely based on that, and she had more incentive to promote Cowboy Carter after the album hit number one, but she didn't care to do that. I think that's what's Mariah will do. Release the album, then after the holidays, release potentially a few TV specials out of it and then a tour or mini tour. She's having the best concert attendance of her career recently, and she needs a new theme to tour. That's what everyone's doing. Not many cares about chart performance. I'm not being biased as a lamb, but the only time the charts actually mean something is during the holidays because the points are high, and Mariah dominates that. Back to chart obsession (110,549) by BFF from United States I think Mariah and her team could have gotten more mileage out of "Type Dangerous" if they had released the video and remix EP sooner. The song and video are fun, and the song makes really good use of that Eric B. and Rakim sample. It's still doing pretty well in the niche R&B radio format. I never cared for "Sugar Sweet" from the first time I heard it and think it's a much weaker song than "Type Dangerous". If I worked on Mariah's team, I would advocate for a ballad or the Anderson.Paak duet as a third single. We have to get used to the idea that the "legacy" residencies and Christmas tours are going to be Mariah's main focus since they clearly generate the most income. The rollout for "Caution" came around the time of "The Butterfly Returns" residency and a European Christmas tour, so it seems like we will see a similar pattern for "Here For It All". It makes sense that she would continue to focus on the residencies and Christmas tours... unless a newly released single or album becomes a massive hit. Maybe we will luck out and get a "Here For It All" tour next year, but Mariah's recent pattern of pre-recording entire shows doesn't bode well for how that would turn out. She's already run that theme to the ground. Mariah only dabbled in it during the Butterfly Tour and Breakdown and I Stay In Love video. But they're not new, and it didn't fit her overall persona anyway. I love Taylor, but I'm sorry, she's not as compelling a performer like Madonna, nor have the classics like Mariah. She's an album artist with a top notch business team. Her sales is inflated by the re-releases which boosted her career which then put her in the position she is now. It helps a lot that she has the drive. Miley Cyrus is probably thinking what Taylor did right. They had near identical path, but Taylor left her in the dust. Both started as teens with country leanings, then turn to pop. That's the thing about being a performer and having your act being based on a theme, you can recycle the old and make it new again. She's likely to out-chart Mariah, but who cares, as long as HFIA is as good as Caution, I will be happy. If we hope for a chart position for HFIA, we will be disappointed. When Sugar Sweet was released, reception was extremely positive. But because it didn't chart, we don't like it anymore. The quickness lambs switch on her based on chart position is sad. She's really a victim of her own success. I love the song, love the beat, it feels like a classic. It doesn't feel out of place to her catalog like that I Don't mess. And she's collabing and she increase their profile even a little. She's in her giving era, launching careers. I hope the song has its moment someday, I'm almost thinking it being a theme for a cooking show and it explodes lol. That's how IWTKWLI is Brazil when it became a theme for a show. It would've been great if she put out Someone's Ugly Daughter in that year, then transitioned to Butterfly the next year. Taylor Swift (110,468) by Norman from USA It would be great if there were actually a battle. I don't think Swift's team has Mariah anywhere near their radar tbh. I know that amongst her fans, we're waiting with baited breath, but the GP doesn't have her on their radar either. The two lead singles have had a positive reaction from the fans and have stoked a new sense of optimism amongst us as well, but neither of them are doing anywhere near well enough to be a threat to any upcoming album release. I believe that it's going to hinge more on the album drop and how well it can garner attention in the r&b space, as opposed to the pop/mainstream space. I still believe that a comeback single is entirely possible for her; some heartfelt song from out of left field with a great hook and thumping beat could do it. It's been said here many times before (I know I've said it), but it bears repeating - her heart's gotta be in it. The thing that Taylor has brought to the table in her dominion of the charts, is a team with a lot of business savvy, sharp marketing skills, well crafted public image, and a no-holds-barred drive to plaster her everywhere. And while I think Mariah could benefit from a level of that (I think Gamma is trying-adjacent), I think Mariah is so done with that part of her career/life. She went from IDWC to I Don't Wanna Try. You know, it's kind of like when an introvert makes future plans when they're excited, and then as the day approaches, they hate themselves for making the plans. At least that's my take on it. I'm cautiously optimistic about this new album after hearing the "Here For It All", snippet. I guess we'll see on September 26th. But I'm glad you're still hyped for a big moment from this era. Random thoughts about aging and beauty (110,325) by jaker20 from US Mariah always looks younger than her age. It's the mix-race genetics beauty in her. She always had great skin, teeth and hair. Particularly during the Charmbracelet era, her skin was so flawless, they're glowing. I always wondered why she never pursued skin care products merch. She would have been a great spokesperson. So while she obviously had done, it's not that huge of a change for her. The breasts sure. But for everything else she has a great base of natural beauty already, they're just touch ups, unlike for other celebrities. Personally if I had the money, I would too for as long as I can. Life is what you make it. Some people want to make us believe aging naturally make us happy. Maybe that's true for them, but that's not always true. We all touch up all the time, makeup, hair color, even high heels and clothes make us feel a different way. It's different for everyone. It does not necessarily mean they're looking or trying satisfy some pressure. I remember Rihanna and Taylor famously shut down reporters who assume them to be backhanded compliments. Random thoughts about aging and beauty (110,314) by Dove from United States I was thinking about Mariah Carey and how she still looks really young. I'm approaching that age where women start "needing" to get injectables and I'm trying to decide what kind of woman I'm going to be. Then I started thinking about famous women who are choosing to age naturally. I saw some pictures of Pamela Anderson and I thought she was still really beautiful. Drew Barrymore, Alicia Keys, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Silverstone. They're all still really beautiful. Then I thought, "They're lying to us, we don't need that stuff." Then I thought about Demi Moore and Mariah Carey who have had work done and they're really beautiful too, just in a different way. I think a big reason to want to look younger is if you're trying to attract a younger man. I feel like someone would still be attracted to an older woman who looks her age, though. Do all men prefer younger women? Pamela Anderson still got a man and he seems to really like her. I've always been okay with lasers and chemical peels but injectables kind of scare me because if they're not done right they can make a person look worse. I'm glad Mariah is looking her best for this era but it must be so much pressure. I wouldn't mind if she started aging after this era. Not that my opinion matters but I was thinking about how people notice famous people's (and everyone's) appearance. I think a person's personality has a lot to do with their beauty too. There are some celebrities (and regular people) who are so ugly on the inside that nothing could make them beautiful no matter how they look on the outside. (Monday 4 August 2025; 14:55)

Also, there is a lot of talk here about Mariah's personality. I think that is just a character she created for herself to not feel stiffed by fame and celebrity. She created this over the top character as a survival mechanism. People can pick apart, criticize and even praise that persona, which she know everyone will as she's constantly in front of the camera. I was going through a list over Mariah's most streamed songs and realised that [It's like that] has only around 250k spins/streams on Spotify. Migrate has 5,3 million and what's really shocking is that that horrible song Infinity has more than 16 millions.
