Duets on new CD (50,841)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
Wow. I have no idea that my predictions came true. In the news statement, it said that there are will new surprises and duets of her classic hits. Lots of ideas for her newly updated #1s but we all have to wait and see. I hope this LA Reid's guide will not be a miss like the last time he oversaw MOAIA.

Charmbracelet tour (50,741)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
At the bottom of her career, she went on tour and proved to everyone that she got it. It's been her most extensive tour worldwide (lots of dates and continents) and looking back everything was great. It was completely live to me from the beginning to the very end. It was the only tour that has a major theme (circus/theater) for the entire show. I remember watching it at Concord and San Jose in California, USA and everything was amazing. From the props to the dancers and there was a theme. Thus, I believe in this residency because when she hit the bottom, she has to show the public that she still has it. I hope it still remains true. Caesar's Palace will invest in a lot of money to make it work. She's probably in LA right now, going through the production and promotion meetings and I expect rehearsals will take place in April. I can't believe it's less two months from now. Forget the ensemble, the past, and let it go. I can't wait.

Vegas and Mariah and Walter (50,704)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
I have faith in Caesar's Palace's production. Even though Mariah and her team might not be too extravagant with the production but it's a Vegas residency and it's business. The show must be extravagant to get people come and see. Last week, I saw a glimpse of Shania's show on TV and it looked great. There were so many dancers, props, and production. I'm looking forward to the Vegas show. And onto Walter, I know that there's magic between them when they work together but I don't really care whether or not she works with him now. A lot of people on this forum have been saying about they should team up again but let's be honest, he hasn't had a hit since Mariah period besides producing My Heart Will Go On. On the other hand, Mariah has several hits without his assistance/collaboration. The only old-time producers that stick around are Max Martin and Timberland. I don't want to suggest Mariah work with them because it's hit or miss as well. Max Martin does great with Britney, Katy, and Taylor but he missed the opportunity with Christina, J Lo and stuff. One more thing, I remember Mariah mentioned that Jermaine was being selfless and told her to release other producers' singles after TEOM (ILT, WBT, SIO, DFAU). Since then, she released other producers' singles instead but we know that Mariah/Dupri has several potential singles on both EMC2 and MIAM.

#1's (50,079)
by Ethan from United States

|
Let's all move on from Jamaica and the Grammys. Can you guys believe that in 2 months we will hear new music from Mariah? And the newly updated #1's CD? I can't wait. We are so wrapped up in this whole thing while Mariah is locked up in her studio cooking up something for us. Haha. It might come out on April 28 (Tuesday) or May 5 (Tuesday) a day before her first show in Vegas. That's like so soon for something so unexpected. I really hope that it will be a great record.

Mariah and the Grammys (50,026)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
Here's my issue with the Grammys. It's a hate/love/hate relationship. I'm not upset that Mariah hadn't won as many Grammys as she should've but I'm more pissed at how she was cheated/treated/tricked by the Recording Academy. So this is my conspiracy theory. At every award show, at least 3 people know who's going to win the award. Back in 2006, all of her R&B categories were presented in the pre-telecast. At some point, someone in the production knew that Mariah wasn't going to win SOTY, ROTY, and AOTY for WBT. At the same year, two of the Pop categories were presented and Kelly Clarkson won and got on stage and made a speech. Yes she deserved it. I don't hate on her. Mariah didn't have opportunities to go on stage to accept and make a speech. In fact, she hasn't had any acceptance time since 1991 for her first album (by the way, that album is so much better than Sam Smith's and his first single). It's so messed up that it happened to her. And the year after, how conveniently Mary J Blige's R&B categories were presented on stage and she won for BWY. So either the producers knew that she wasn't going with for SOTY and ROTY or they did that on purpose. Then in 2009, Mariah was invited to perform at the Grammy Nominations concert. Everyone knew that if they got invited to perform, they would at least get 1 freaking nomination. Nope. Not Mariah. She opened the show with CBPCH and went home empty handed. Most people expected that she was going to get ROTY for TMB or something. And the rant continues. And yet she's still gracious and grateful to the Recording Academy. She interviewed for them for American Idol and then for #Beautiful. It's also for her to promote but still I feel that she's being used by them. And here's the breakdown of Grammy nominations that I think she should have won. I don't buy that vote-splitting theory. VOL should have won for ROTY and maybe AOTY for her debut. OSD and WBT should have won for ROYT. Here's why. Sometimes, the Grammys' SOTY goes with message/theme ("From a distance", "Change the world", "Daughters", "Sometimes you can't make it on your own", "Royals", etc) or a powerful ballad ("My heart will go on", "Need you know", "Rolling in the deep", etc). VOL lost to Bette Midler's "From a distance" and I can see that makes sense but it's a better record than Phil Collins for ROTY. Mariah's debut is so much better than most artists' first album. She was robbed. In 1996, OSW should have won for ROTY. Hands down. For WBT, I can see why it lost to U2 for SOTY because the Grammys went for the message/theme song and they had less writers than WBT. But, it should have won for ROTY. It was the biggest record that year. She was robbed again. How often have you heard it over Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Kayne West's "Gold Digger"? Yet they blamed it on the vote-splitting. BS. P.S. I'm secretly smiling inside that Beyonce lost because I want Mariah to win first. She's the only one out of the big 3 divas that hasn't won S/R/AOTY.

PR and solutions (49,647)

L.A. Reid, Mariah, and her team please get her on Jimmy Fallon and do another acapella song, particularly Fantasy with the Roots. Also, it'd be amazing and magical if they can get a gig at performing with another artist at the Grammy Awards this Sunday. Yes it's wishful thinking but anything is possible. It's really time for her to redeem herself ASAP.

Negative press (49,638)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
Whether or not we care about the recent incident but it has caused negative press for her and her upcoming show. Here's another article about her trouble vocals from Billboard. To many of us, we don't care much and it's not because we are loyal fans but we know she will pull it through. However, most people will buy into and affect her Vegas residency. I do believe that there will be more promotion and hype when the Vegas residency comes near. Even I'm skeptical myself. I didn't want to go to her first show in Vegas and I chose to attend the last show in May because I think it will polished by then. Yes I'm a bit in doubt but I support her and I know it will be great. It's up to Mariah and her team to make it work since it's her residency and it's under their control. We need an amazing stage, props, lighting, and dancers and everything else. It's Vegas and it's not mediocre. And please get exclusively made Versace or Cavalli concert outfits.

Mariah Mariah Mariah (49,604)
by Ethan from United States

Yes the Jazz Festival was a mess and I hope she knew that. In the end, Mariah will hear and see from her fans and she will not disrespect them again. Let's be fair and honest, Mariah's voice is not the same as she was in her 20s but she can still sing. She has it in her. The difference between Mariah and other female singers is the expectation of the voice. What I mean is that when people come to see Mariah, they want to hear live performances. You don't expect that from Britney Spears' fans or people that see her show because they don't care or they are just loyal fans. I went to see Britney in Vegas for the entertainment, performance, and specularity, which I knew that the entire show or almost of it was mimed and I don't care because I love singing to those songs and the whole production kind of made up for it. I really hope that people, including us go easy on Mariah a bit and support her Vegas residency. She will pull it through in Vegas because it is under her control where she has a whole team just like at the Beacon Theater to go through rehearsals and careful production. Yes the Vegas residency will be lip-synched for some parts but that is fine to me because music production is complicated with many vocal layers and such. Best of luck with Mariah and her team but please get it together. We care, enjoy, and love you.

Empire / Vegas / Mariah (49,502)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
EMPIRE: I'm very glad that my prediction/wish of Mariah on the show is almost confirmed. Yay. Vegas: Is it possible of having Mariah duet with Whitney's hologram for When You Believe? Is it too soon? I don't know. It all depends on the idea and Mariah and the production team have the permission to do so. Anyone with me? Mariah: This is all my experiences/observations. When Mariah was a bit less popular, she really worked hard and won the critics and fans all over again. In my honest opinion, I've gone to her concerts since the Rainbow tour, she was amazingly live and put on a great show during her less popular periods: Charmbracelet and Angels Advocate. She got rave reviews from these two tours compared to Rainbow and Adventures of Mimi. And I do see that as well. Therefore, I'm actually looking forward to the Vegas residency because I know that she really has to show her best or be at best to be on top again. It's a bit disappointing/sad to see that 5-7 other millions who bought TEOM didn't purchase MIAM. Who knows? But reality sucks. It's also disappointing to hear/see Mariah got scrutinized by the media when there are other artists who didn't do well at all with their CDs (Celine and JLo). This is my take on it: it shows that Mariah is still popular and relevant and she receives more press whether negative or positive so she will be around for a while.

Mariah and Missy Elliot collaboration (49,366)
by Ethan from United States

It'd be great to see/hear their work again. It's been magic since Babydoll and Heartbreaker (the remix). I think it'll be a hit since Missy has been MIA for a while. I hope that there will be a song on the updated #1s CD with them two.

#1 CD (49,361)
by Ethan from United States

I'm surprised that the re-recordings/duets idea generated such a strong discussion when I brought it up. I definitely don't think it's happening. I was just kidding at that time. I'll be surprised in a good way if it happens. All I hope is this CD will include 7 new songs, which will equal to 25 songs to celebrate her 25th anniversary. That's all. The Colosseum is very intimate. It's a theater so no matter where you sit, it's a great view. My seats are at Orchestra 3, row JJ (it's like row 9 or 10) so it's great nonetheless. In my opinion, I don't really like the first 3-5 rows because it will hurt my neck from looking up the entire time.

Mariah's Vogue article (49,359)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
Did anyone see this article on Vogue? It's time for Mariah to be very glamorous and stylish around. When TEOM came out, her ensembles were chic and she had Andre Leon Talley around here. I remember seeing her images on magazine's best dress lists and stuff. Remember that one outfit she wore to an event with LA Reid and met Tommy and his wife there? And then the next day she arrived in Paris in this nude color dress and both made the best dress list that week. Her videos from TEOM were classics as well. Bring back Bret Ratner. Anyway, looking from her Ellen's appearance, I hope she will become a style icon and graces magazine's covers again, especially American Vogue. If whatever her name West made it, so could Mariah.

#1s CD and Vegas residency (49,302)
by Ethan from United States
| |
|
|
When I first mentioned about the duets idea, I was only kidding. I don't think it's going to happen but I mentioned it anyway. It's an updated #1s CD so it will include only the 18 #1s in the US and new songs. It's not a greatest hits CD so I don't expect her and her team to include other songs. People will buy the CD for new songs just like they did for the first #1s CD. So we need to support her. However, I'm serious about the idea of dueting with another diva for a new song, probably those that don't have a feud with Mariah like Adele, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, and Lady Gaga. Adele has said in an interview that to her, Mariah is the ultimate diva. Would it be cool if they work on a song together? I'm okay with writing a song together only and Mariah can sing it by herself. For the Vegas show, besides the 18 #1s that will be performed, I hope that she will include 4-5 more songs. My ideal list will be FLAB with a choir and she might as well throw in MIH or AYNAF to maximize the choir. She will probably include #Beautiful for sure and I hope she will sing YDKWTD/Metorite to go with the disco/techno segment with dancers in roller blades. Thus, it will be around 23 songs. Oops I forgot about Cry. So 24 songs total. We all know that half of the #1s will be sung in full and the other half will be incorporated into medleys or segments. It's just the way it goes and less of a stretch for her to belt out all the songs in full length. I can't wait till May 24. Vegas here I come.

Vegas residency plus #1s CD plus 2015 projects (49,267)
by Ethan from United States
| |

|
First of all, I really like the direction that Mariah and her team are going. Here's why: Vegas: Since it's Vegas, it's going to be invested in some kind of production. Even though it's going to be focused on her voice, there will be some acrobatics, props, staging. I don't think it will be as extravagant as Britney's or Celine's (the ones I've been to) but it's at Caesars Palace so it will be great nonetheless. People need to stop freaking out about the residency. It's really short. Only 27 shows per year that allows Mariah to do other things. And she knows that. Keep calm and carey on. #1s CD: It's probably going to be a 2-CD compilation. I hope she will include at least 6 new songs (Don't Explain and so on). The last #1 CD included 4 new songs with a duet with a major diva. It'd be cool if Mariah collaborate on a song with another diva to have the same formula (Beyonce or Lady Gaga?). It sounded like a crazy idea but I think it would work. Also, perhaps re-record all her 18 #1s with another singer for each song (Kelly Clarkson and so on?) and turns it to #1s duets. Anyone with me? Lol. Empire: I hope that Mariah will guest star or have a recurring role on this show. It's hot and so good right now. Lee Daniels is involved in this new TV show. He directed the first episode. Would it be cool if Mariah plays Cookie's sister, coming in with a Long Island or Souther accent? Mariah has sassiness and talent and she will make it work. I can't wait for the show on May 24th.

Vegas residency (49,173)

Finally, I'm on this forum. Have you guys noticed that there are rumors about another female artist is coming to Vegas as well? Either her or Mariah or both. Anyway, I look forward to tomorrow's news and I hope that it won't be overshadowed by the Oscar nominations coming out on the same day. I can't wait for the news.
