Re: Important recordings (92,315) (92,345)

Love a list Bill. Definitely those three but I'd also include I'll Be There, as they were afraid her popularity was fading in the US at the time of it and there was all this conjecture of her only being a studio artist who need bells and whistles (pun intended) to create what she did. I'll Be There rocked her into the new opinion of Mariah the performer in the general public's eyes.
I Know What You Want was also career defining as being the first big hit post Glitter that made her look somewhat cool to the kids.
I'd also include WBT alongside It's Like That as the Dupri effect. It's Like That did all the heavy lifting in making Mariah even more likeable again before the monster hit of WBT.

Re: Charmbracelet singles (92,298) (92,313)

Charmbracelet is hands down my least favourite album so I'd release Through The Rain and move on. When I listen to all the tracks and try imagine them on the radio I just struggle to. If I had to, I'd have released Through The Rain, Bringing On The Heartbreak and then The One. Now before you all come after me with your pitchforks, I do love a few other songs from the album but don't think they're single worthy.

Re: The memoir (92,272) (92,284)
by Will from Australia

I'd take it being just about the music if she serves it like that. She went into great detail of the process of recording AIWFCIY for the anniversary so that treatment to her other songs would be welcomed. Hopefully giving flowers to those that do deserve it be it with ideas and concepts.
Her giving some new information on things we don't know about the music would be amazing. Inspirations for the songs etc. Also the tea on things that never came to life, JT on Yours, the Glitter songs with Prince/Madonna. MJ and other duets that never happened.
I do want to know about the JLo stuff from behind the scenes from the music to any encounters they've had and what Tommy told her behind closed doors.
Her upbringing yada yada just does not interest me - yes you had a tough upbringing, yes it had racial undertones, yes you had no proper shoes upon your feet and sometimes you couldn't even eat... but we've heard this as many times as AIWFCIY the Santa Claus Kissing Mariah Extreme Festive Under The Mistletoe In The Sugar Plum Fairy Kingdom... version.
Now if there's something that nobody knows about from her childhood, that's extremely private which she chooses to share, then I hope she does it as part of the recovery process from what ever that ordeal was and I wish her well, love and peace with it.
Overall though, I'll buy whatever trinket she delivers, even if it is tales from her rides over the rainbow on butterfly wings writing her own songs, exclusively, from an eternally 12 year old's perspective, who writes her own songs, in search of her vision of la la land, which is more than just a made up (pause).... drehhhriiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmm.

The memoir (92,260)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I don't actually care how well the book is perceived, I just accept that Mariah will never be popular in the general public's eyes and to be honest that's all her own doing these past 15 years - yes it's been 15 years since TEOM when she was given a slight reprieve by the pubic and then blew it by thinking diva is cute. I still can't wait to read it because I'm a lamb until the day I die and any new Mariah material is a must have but I no longer concern myself with how successful anything she does will be, aside from AIWFCIY which is from 1994, back when I was in high school and she used to be popular.

Thanks for sharing Bill. I'd never seen that before. I love when she looks at the background singers during the bridge to kinda say where the heck are you, I think they missed a line or two and the cute laugh from Mariah at the end when one of the backups says "sing it" should be iconic.

Random songs (92,218)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I woke up this morning with "I'll just sit right here and sing that good old school shit to you, I won't fool you, I won't make you be my own, And oh baby you know..." I knew immediately it was obviously Mariah and from MIAMTEC but will admit the songs name didn't come to me straight away. I just love how she can create that kind of magic, not the No.1s or other hits, but just great album cuts like Dedicated that resonates.

Basically Mariah isn't current in terms of what is popular and unfortunately her new music isn't current either. I love Caution and so many of its tracks but I'm not that removed from today's culture to know those tracks are not catchy enough to be relevant like whatever Ariana Grande or Taylor Swift is putting out. Whether I like them or not, I can't deny that their new music is somewhat more catchy than anything Mariah is churning out. But we love everybody.

E=MC2 era (92,157)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Disclaimer: I'm about to say something that could be perceived as negative, but hey, it's a message board and so forgive me for thinking that as a fan this was somewhere I could feel comfortable in voicing such satanical thoughts.
So after that tangent, I just watched a clip from the E=MC2 era where Mariah was onstage singing in large dark sunglasses inside a studio and realized this was actually a reoccurring thing during that era and as far as I'm aware not a medically required condition. I think this was actually the start of her losing touch with the general public after the success of the Emancipation, she came across like it went all to her head and the sunglasses kinda gave that impression IMO and really through shade onto her comeback.
Complete turnaround now to having her new management team always keeping her in line to what the public and the fans want. As much as Tommy did wrong privately, I reckon he was right to keep Mariah's eccentricities under some governance early days so she couldn't ruin her image by being herself. Match. Lit. Go.

I've read online that the memoir is called "I Had A Vision Of Love" and is due in September 2020 but I hope that's not true as the title is a bit meh for me

Walter A (91,798)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I would love Mariah to work with Walter again to see if they can recreate that magic but I reckon it could sound dated and not for this moment in time. He worked a lot with Leona Lewis on her debut as Simon Cowell tried to reinvent Mariah and although I like Leona and those songs, they went nowhere and are forgotten. I really hope Mariah talks about what really happened with Walter in her book and confirm or deny that he was a rat for Tommy

Mariah and Britney (91,740)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I just had a thought that if Mariah and Britney teamed up it'd have a good chance of being a hit, I'm just not sure how that would sound. If it went No.1 that would make them the two artists with No.1 in the 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s, assuming AIWFCIY doesn't achieve it.

That’s such a different performance of Hero, something about the key or tone she sings it in, almost sounds like someone else singing it and I’ve never heard her sing it like that.

2020 hope (91,398)
by Will from Australia
| |

If it happens and MC gets her 19th No.1 with AIWFCIY this year, I hope they are planning to capitalize on the news it will generate by promoting a new single from a upcoming 2020 album or drop her book in January or something please. Just don't let the moment pass with the decorations coming down you know.

Hark (91,366)
by Will from Australia

That Hark performance is just sublime. Gave me goosebumps and if possible I fell in love with her all over again. She has a real confidence singing that one which is kinda lacking from the other performances. I can't wait to hear the Hero performance assuming she'll release it.

More surprises (91,344)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I'm trying to think of what else could Mariah surprise us with that would have me floored. Her own recorded version of "Where Are You Christmas" would be one thing. An unheard of recording from Merry Christmas would be another but unlikely as surely it would have made the anniversary edition.

I Stay In Love (91,262)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
I'm still shook but last night I was at a big nightclub in Melbourne with probably about 200+ people and one of the tracks that came on kept repeating a familiar line and I couldn't for the life of me pin it down. "I always thought that you would stay around" over and over and then finally it clicked and the whole of "I Stay In Love" was played, don't ask me what dance version it was but I ran around the place like it was Christmas. Now not only was I shocked that the DJ chose that song, of all of Mariah's songs (he didn't play another), but also by how many of the young crowd knew the lyrics etc, gagged.

Jesus Born On This Day (91,242)

Ok can we take a minute to appreciate the extra loud kid yelling the lyrics at parts of Jesus Born On The Day. I for one am so happy they didn’t dub that down in any way, it just adds so much to the song.

Something personal (91,065)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
Thought I'd share this here becasue only you guys will get it.
Yesterday I was made redundant from my job which I've given 14 years of my life to, and I'll be fine because I'm resilient but in my time of need I immediately turned to Mariah's music to get me through. Hero really touched me in a way it hadn't done in a long time and the Rainbow Interlude was played a few times to say the least.
Today is more of a Triumphant listen.

Don't feel bad Randy I felt the exact same as you, as I read the print first and thought OMG she's back to being shady and nightmare era Mariah but when I watched the video, albeit edited, she came across much better and less... Crawford.
As far as the book goes, I'm here for whatever she chooses to reveal once it's new information and not a repeat of all her interviews, we need the tea dahling.

Tic Tok AIWFCIY (91,027)
by Will from Australia
| |
|
|
So apparently Tic Tok counts towards charts I read somewhere in relation to the Obsessed challenge and that songs reemergence - which got me wondering if Mariah's team (yes you that are reading this) is planning to start a movement for AIWFCIY to help make it No.1, if not, they should.

Prisoner. She actually says "Don't mean to diss you." I would love to hear more of that style of Mariah 90s rap.
"You can't do that I'm not a door mat You're just a player That's not my format (hey oh, oh) See ya (prisoner of your love)"
