About Andrew from UK:

Re: Buying a ticket (58,496) (58,503) by Andrew from UK
Luke, mate, don't be daft, don't go on your own. You can't talk about it or you won't have as much fun singing and/or dancing along. Post what city you're near and I'm sure someone would love your company.

Re: Mariah's European tour (58,424) (58,494) by Andrew from UK
I missed this post. But, Rene, I am glad you are thinking of me during the festive season. I shall remember to consider thinking of you more often. If it was a genuine question, and not Travis-like [censored] comment, then the answer is: I don't know. I went to the UK Rainbow and Charmbracelet tours. And went to a UK chat show with her on it. And camped outside her hotel several times. And actually got taken from queuing to get a CD signed on Oxford Street in an ambulance and admitted to hospital with meningitis (I stayed until I could stand no more). My criticisms of Mariah's performances over the past few years undiminished I would not not want to go to a UK tour. That being said, I'm not particularly excited (I was for Charmbracelet and it was terrible). I'm worried it will be the same songs as per every show she has ever done, with poor staging, and over-heavy on lip-sync, with duh duh duh "smoke and mirrors". However, it may just be a surprise, as Edward reports from The Beacon, and, perhaps, I may find what I have been missing for the past 2 to 3 years. Regardless, my Australian friend is bouncing off the walls and I may be attacked with a well-aimed didgeridoo if I don't get tickets.

Re: My wig was snatched (58,478) (58,479) by Andrew from UK
Save for waiting for someone to rip off a wig somewhere [censored]: that was really great. For the European tour she may want to finally lower the keys to her songs. It would sound so much better, I'm not sure anybody would think negatively of it.

I love me some Martyn, but I hear this at 2:14-2:20 and it highlights to me the massive difference between the live vocal and the pre-record. Am I missing something here? [censored]

Re: Performance with Busta (58,275) (58,284) by Andrew from UK
"Ok, first of all, Mariah seldom goes off-pitch." At least begin with honesty. "Pitch is one of the most basic things every decent singer will always master, it's basically the easiest thing to keep in singing." Source material? If that's true, then it's worrying. "Throughout her career, she has demonstrated sharp pitch accuracy and only goes off pitch 1% of the time." Please reference the statistical analysis. "What you hear post-1997 from her in bad performances are overly chesty mix resulting into tension, scratchy, unprepared vocals and cracks. Even in her bad performances she still kept her pitch pretty accurate. Second, in studio, she can record multiple takes and piece the best chunks of each takes into the rough mix." No, she does not. See, many Vegas recordings. MC's songs did actually used to sound sung through (Whitney's did, also) - last time I can recall is Honey (So So Def). Many songs sound so cut and paste it's impossible to even imagine to yourself they were sung through - if I mention HATE U I'm sure you know the part I'm talking about - it sounds so bizarre. "Recorded songs are meant to be as good as possible because it's what you present to the public, the material you're promoting. It's what getting into the radios, etc. You won't just record a song in one take and let the bad pieces in it." The final versions in the past few albums are cut-and-paste and don't flow, IMO. Regardless, the vocal stylings aren't reproduced on stage. But, wait: "On stage you will ultimately do some flaws because we're humans and you know, notes don't go back into our throats after we sing it. Don't even try to imply that her voice is doctored so much in the studio it became the flawless voice we heard. She probably uses Autotune to define her runs (mostly not for pitch) and correct out some slightly flat and slightly sharp belts. It's not even that much Autotune." The fact that Mariah hits notes and does runs etc. so flawlessly on recent records but can't produce anything like them live? Ever? That's what Randy was talking about mostly, I think, and the reason for my message back. I won't imply anything, such is your disapproval. "Her voice isn't even that scratchy anymore, as long as she warms up properly, her voice will be smooth like silk. It's incorrect to say that Mariah post-1997 is pitchy because the woman probably went off-pitch less than 25 times in her 25 years in the music industry." Factamundo [censored] stuff for people who don't reside in Dreamville. I can dream, but reality feeds and clothes my body. Don't often respond to people but, come on? Opinion is opinion. Reality is reality. Thanks for the reply.

Re: Performance with Busta (58,263) (58,273) by Andrew from UK
Randy, I think it's been a very long time since almost anyone considered MC the "best" singer in the world. Apart from that, you're completely right. The performance wasn't "bad", per se. But I'm pretty sure if she recorded a version of it later on that evening in a studio, she'd all of a sudden be completely flawless, no pitch issues, no cracking, effortlessly reaching notes she was struggling with on stage. How do you suppose that happens?

Update from Dreamville: "Dear Diary, today I stringed words together that make no sense to anybody but they do to me and I was given a gold star. Still in here. No chance of escape to the real world. Someday, ooh ooh, someday." This is scary, right? Seriously scary.

Your. Post. Is. Awesome. Don't go to Dreamville, you'll need to be certified by two medical professionals to be let out. Hope you enjoy The Beacon show.

Re: Rockefeller / Andrew (58,187) (58,194) by Andrew from UK
Martyn, I think Team Andrew is just you and me, chuck. But I submit it is the. coolest. team. ever. I agree the "phone call" idea is unproven - I should have put "allegedly". However, Mariah is renowned for being late and keeping people waiting for hours. I am not saying the Rockefeller lateness deserved releasing the mic feed, but Mariah kept everyone waiting for three hours in the rain and then, on the night, gave a very bad vocal performance. It is perfectly possible, and perhaps likely, that Mariah isn't performing at Rockefeller this year because she hasn't been invited.

Re: Rockefeller (58,174) (58,183) by Andrew from UK
She kept the public and crew waiting for three hours in the rain and told them she was "on the phone". Somebody retaliated. Not sure Mariah was a victim there.

Re: Can't Say No (58,064) (58,071) by Andrew from UK
Stick it to Tommy? Isn't this a little off the mark? Historical personal and professional accuracies and inaccuracies abound. But wasn't the beginning of Mariah's career crafted and managed to make her a global superstar? Worked, didn't it? Didn't she state in a Billboard speech something like "I have to thank Tommy Mottola: particularly at the beginning of my career"? "Can't Say No" to me is hideous and boring except for when Mariah sings - which is awesome, punch-the-air shit. This is a bit like the Nick criticisms here. Mariah has never slagged him off or said what happened. And she maintains class around him. Why is he lampooned on the web forums? Regardless, this heavy RnB stuff is bizarre to me. She had Justin a few months ago who is now Number 1, 2 and 4 in the UK and she utilised him for a terrible heavy RnB remix which nobody even noticed. I'm sure I'll be told to shut up and sod off. Let me be a little more positive and constructive. I think this: Mariah, do Rockefeller with AIWFCIY and do it as the festive duet with JB (who, fair play, has spectacularly changed the way the world thinks of him). It would be amazing for her. And amazing for people to watch. It would be insanely brilliant.

Re: Out now: "All I Want" lip-sync (58,011) (58,056) by Andrew from UK
"Everybody lip-syncs in a parade" is completely missing the point (although I think some people avoid the point rather than simply miss it). Having an isolated mic feed of poor vocals released last year should have led MC to get out and smash that song this year. Booking to perform in a parade in which she knew she would mime is yet another bad PR decision which would obviously lead to more negative press and social media comments. One would naturally assume the purpose of performances and interviews is to achieve the opposite.

Re: Out now: "All I Want" lip-sync (58,012) (58,031) by Andrew from UK
Um, yeah, I did expect her to sing live. If it was good it would have dispelled the extremely bad press from last year. Feels like a bit of an easy cop out to go on something where "you have to lip sync". And, no, it didn't take me long because I was excited to see it. What took everybody else so long? Bad, bad lambs.

Out now: "All I Want" lip-sync (58,011) by Andrew from UK
So I just watched a clip of Mariah at the Macy's Parade on YouTube. It must have been dubbed, right? She didn't get up there and lip-sync, surely? Mariah wouldn't be so silly as to follow a much derided AIWFCIY vocal last year with another PR disaster like, oh I dunno, miming the words this year instead? Right? I hope whoever posted the video dubbed it. However, judging from her body movements and facial expressions it was lipped. I hope I'm wrong. Add that to what looks like a completely cringe TV movie and it's a PR disaster. Again.

Re: Speak up more (57,899) (57,908) by Andrew from UK
I agree with you. But disagree with general concept of "elusiveness". Kind of felt like Mariah just [censored] off whilst we were all desperate for a chart attack. Sympathy is oversought. Vanity prevails. Cheap videos blamed upon record companies is nonsense. She's loaded. I want Mariah Carey the "queen" back. A third and probably final chart attack is absolutely necessary or there's not much point. She has the songwriting ability. She is the songbird supreme. Not sure there is a fair comparator. Lipping and all other criticisms aside, she taps into people when she's on point. Adele? Mariah can do this even better. Movies? Cards? Shopping? All nonsense. She needs to get back to her day job and give it one final smash. Lose weight, drop the disenchanting diva attitude, write some relevant songs, drop the trying-to-be-cool lyrics and hit the Butterfly depth again, and sing them live. Nobody expects Mariah Carey to be the vocalist she was. But they will respect her for owning it and having attitude. Nobody [censored] with Whitney. Until the very end. All other artists fans will be in awe. She just needs to go for it. Agree with Gio and others about ballads, ballads turning into upbeat, classic universal stuff etc. Day job, please Mariah. I'm reminded of how absolutely astonishing she was.

X Factor UK (57,906) by Andrew from UK
Half an hour into X Factor and two Mariah songs performed (OSD and WBT). General theme, as always: "You tried to sing a Mariah." My whatsapp going mad. Love me some Mariah. So proud. Love me some Mariah. Buzzing. I forget sometimes how [censored] amazing her [censored] is. Reminds me of the first X Factor when I lived at home and Simon Cowell said, word for word, "Even Mariah Carey misses notes sometimes" and I snapped my head around to my dad and insisted "no she [censored] doesn't" and he belly laughed. Love me some Mariah.

I can't be elusive with you, Honey. I'm sure you worked for Attitude magazine about 4 years ago. It was then. Well, it was either you or somebody who looks, walks and talks like you. So could be any number of drag queens. AIWFCIY department store thing sounds great. Unless, of course, it's Matalan. But HMS Ocean sort of won out on that front a couple of years ago - Mariah even tweeted about it, I think. So you just need something to outdo the Royal Navy's flagship. No pressure, like.

Tweet Mariah tweet (57,855) by Andrew from UK
I think people should look to Mariah Carey for a tweet about the Paris hideousness as they should look to Francois Hollande to burst into song. Tweets these days (especially when celebrities die) are somewhat seemingly self-promotion (I'm a little cynical, yes) and often just random meaningless words typed into the ether, because it's expected of them. It's smacks a little of left-wing pressure: "Say what we want, when we want, or we're coming for you." Mariah Carey has a deep heart, and her heart sings. I'm not sure criticism for not putting out shallow social media commentary isn't a little unfair.

Shameless self-promotion, diva style. I think we have actually met before. But I shan't say where. A Deirdre Barlow tattoo. Oh my. I'll check it out. When I'm really bored.
