Martyn (57,830) by Andrew from UK
Martyn, o Martyn. At the end of a long weekend, sat debating suicide vs Monday morning, I watch CCDWM and see your Dierdre impression and remember that life is absolutely [censored] brilliant sometimes. I know longer have as [censored], for I laughed it off.

Re: Anytime you need a friend (57,748) (57,756) by Andrew from UK
Cheers. They're better than the originals. If I want to play the song to someone I go to the lives over the tracks. Likewise, there are many parts of other live vocals I think are better than they are on the tracks (change in melody or simply better vocal). Sadly, Tevin, in response to your point, it is totally live so "thumbs up", but I don't particularly think TGIFY in Vegas is anything special. If I explained why I'm sure the attack dogs would circle. I shall simply say: I wouldn't write home about it, myself, but I'm glad you like it.

Re: Anytime you need a friend (57,716) (57,740) by Andrew from UK
Giovanni, I think this is genuinely one of those times that a live performance has beaten the original track (Here is... Mariah Carey, Proctor's Theatre). A bit like Hero (Fantasy Live, MSG), When You Believe (Oprah), etc. I would pay good money if there was a live version of All I've Ever Wanted.

Re: Oh the insanity (57,687) (57,739) by Andrew from UK
Randy, I think Adele's new single probably isn't her best but people are excited that she's back. It's current/relevant and she has respect. Mariah's songwriting isn't that anymore. But then many will say "she's writing music she wants to write". I'd prefer her to write music people want to hear. And, yes, in a range she can actually sing that doesn't sniff of being engineered. Not sure if "saving her voice for the studio" isn't the daftest thing I've read in a while. But your "man in the moon" comment is the funniest.

Chill Bill (57,712) by Andrew from UK
Bill, all artists at some point have lip-synced, yes. Thou dost misseth the pointe, Squire. I equally know the content of your messages will be condescending when directed at me, and a little Stan-ish when not. Princess, let me be equally as clear and as condescending for you: Comments and positions that are clearly false and delusional should be challenged. Delusional standpoints cannot win as there is never any evidence to back them up and usually only evidence to dispel and disprove. I invite you to debate me in person.

Notes from a small island (57,711) by Andrew from UK
I see the attack squad is out again. Somebody intimates other artists are lip-syncing machines, that Mariah is not, and that cannot go uncorrected. How unfair on other artists. How completely unrealistic. BET Blueprint WBT chorus is lipped (albeit better than most others). She lipped at Live8, she lipped parts of Happy Birthday to Ali, she lipped for the American president, she lipped duetting with her own mother, it goes on and on. The comment made is completely false and deluded. Mariah has become increasingly more and more famous for miming in the last decade. To deny it is delusional, affording Mariah fans, collectively, a worse rep than most other artists' fans. Just leave the nonsense out. Doesn't make you less of a fan. In fact, I think it makes you more of one.

Re: Oh the insanity (57,683) (57,693) by Andrew from UK
Lipped. Don't be soft. All lambs and fans alike know that it is. I won't relent on saying that the "it's live" rubbish is rubbish. I life Mariah Carey songs. But since Eequals it is apparent that nothing is real. She even lips in a duet. The whole world is labelling "lip-riah" usw. Is this really a place where reality is not welcome? I love Mariah Carey music. But I have to accept that a lot of it my be false. The WBT thing knocked out of the park, someone direct me to "it's a shame" from Heartbreaker live. Infect someone direct me to a vocal performance in the past ten years to be proud of. Bulimia isn't within me. But let's be honest here. Why is the world how crying foul at the once greatest pop vocalists of their generation? Must be out to get her. This isn't hating. You just cannot let bizarre comments pass. You're feeding the strange Mariah we have now. Shame.

Oh the insanity (57,673) by Andrew from UK
I was quoting insanity for it's complete lack of truth. Scroll down. I think it well documented that I believe in honesty. And I shan't be warded off my fandom just because I don't do it in the way others do. I have posted many things here which do not make it, I temper and am tempered. Good fans here, like Gio recently, want Mariah to produce killer songs, to be more engaged, to be different. To be Mariah Carey again. And I want songs that are sung live, sounding like the record. Everything is lip-synced these days. I recently watched Live8 and I'm pretty sure Mariah was the only one to lip-sync: WBT - is there an actual video of her singing the last chorus live? Come on, we need to accept this is happening and demand something else. It's embarrassing. She can do it. She just wants to live up to being the best singer. She isn't anymore. Art Of Letting Go, indeed. Mariah is, painfully, a joke on social media, just read YouTube comments. Nothing is without foundation. What's the point on continuing to do this? Write and record songs in your register and just [censored] sing them like that. It's the tone of the voice more so than the acrobatics. We love the tone of her voice. Nobody is expecting Mariah at 25. She lost that. But at least we can get honesty and value for money/fandom. I'm not [censored], I'm reacting to a ridiculous comment that Mariah isn't a lipsync machine. She has been for many years. And it should stop. For a dozen reasons. I say it like I see it. And I want this [censored] to get better. The legend is being lost in lip-sync, [censored]. Vegas? NY? I even agree with a poster here who I find quite bizarre: go to the fans where they want you. You may not make as much money, but then it seems to be all about the money now. Elusive? You can't [censored] and tell the world you're fragrant.

"[Adele] is not just a lipsynching machine, just like Mariah." LMFAO. B*****s be cray-cray. Seriously, some people who tell other people to stop following Mariah might want to heed their own advice, if not for their mental health.

Re: The Macau misrepresentation (57,590) (57,594) by Andrew from UK
Luke, I think it's laziness now. Confidence? Well, don't charge a fee or charge for tickets, then. It's like Randy's comment about TTR and the choir that was tacked on while she lipped a high note for a long time. Even just singing other songs would help. But it's the same songs sung or lipped in practically the same places in the same way. No confidence? Okay, either don't perform or perform and don't charge for it. This isn't a career necessity, it's a personal choice.

Re: The Macau misrepresentation (57,579) (57,588) by Andrew from UK
Luke, I understand your points. But recently all I come off feeling is either 1) she was out of tune or 2) "she got through it". Isn't the point of watching someone sing live to be entertained and moved in some way? MC now stands still and isn't actually putting much effort in. It's dull as [censored]. What happened to the vocalist that would command a stage and be playful etc? I feel like if she simply just went for it, a la the old times, it may come off good. And be entertaining. Standing still and half-[censored] though a song is not entertaining. And [censored] does she has to start singing different things from her catalogue? Emotions, ABMB etc? Even the choices are dull and effortless.

Re: The Macau misrepresentation (57,577) (57,578) by Andrew from UK
Luke, don't you think that recent songs seem half sung though? I think she should just go for it. If it cracks it cracks. At least she gave it a shot.

The Macau misrepresentation (57,569) by Andrew from UK
Are some people hearing a different version of Emotions in Macau than I am? Some minute flashes sound good - when she had the balls - but most of it is her backing off and sounding too frightened to sing. Which always ends with those off notes and missed phrases. Maybe there is promise, but it's lazy singing. It's like a pick 'n' mix of when she'll try, but, oh, for this part: an "ooh-oo" or a loud "eh". Why can't she just go for it, a song the song? It wouldn't sound half as bad as just making noise through it. And why lip-sync the whistle? She can't whistle anymore? Then don't choose Emotions. Also, Luke, Americans don't get sarcasm. It falls under "wit". But they do spell -isation with a "z". Which we don't. Me thinks you a spy. Love to the haters of "haters". I pray for you. Well I would if God existed. So, I pray to Mariah for you.

Lamb Bible (well-done, with mint sauce) (57,469) by Andrew from UK
"And the devil did smite the world with Ariana, to piss offeth the lambs. And lo, it did work, as the lambs bleated in unison, for lambs need some other person to bitch about other than the Mariah. And Patti begat Aretha who begat Whitney who begat Celine and so on and so forth. Then descended God mightily from his heavens and said unto the lambs: I sent you the Mariah and you shall go forth and spread that she is perfect, that she doeth no wrong, that she farteth the fresh air you breathe." (Lamb Bible, Book of Pointlessness, Verses 1 to Infinity.) You wanna know why the nay-sayers, the negatives, the "haters" like Randy, myself or whomsoever, keep on? It's because when nonsense - actual nonsense - is spouted, because it just-makes-you-feel-better-inside, well, it's not good enough. It's a little retarded. Rather there be honest debate than total, utter, nonsense. It seems the Kingdom of the Lambs is in the keep of the self-righteously indignant, and everyone else must live in fear of labels. I look forward to a day when honest debate is free, emotions are honest and truths are discussed. Until then, people like Randy should not back off, as he has done, for fear of reprisal. [censored] that. Post what the [censored] you like. God save the queens.

You have forgotten your Lamb Bible, Randy! (57,440) by Andrew from UK
Hah Randy, you have forgotten yourself. I hate to quote scripture to you but: "And lo, Mariah doth have a right to lip-synceth, such is the word." (Lamb Bible, Book of Nonsense, Verse 3.) Furthermore, "Thou shalt pay thy hard-earned monies to go to listen to the lip-syncage, and none shalt question, or be they labelled a hater for all eternity." (Lamb Bible, Book of Mime, Verse 2.) Love the fact you are honest. It doesn't mean you don't love, it just means you love truthfully. I would buy you a beer if you weren't so far away. Ax.

Re: Dream duet (57,346) (57,361) (57,370) by Andrew from UK
She may have to do any duet live, however. And the bigger the artist, the less forgiving they would be for lip-syncing. Miguel would go with it. Anyone bigger would not.

TJ (57,318) by Andrew from UK
TJ your honesty is your own. Love it. Why should 90-97 Mariah lovers be denied a voice. Whatever deity you believe in knows that the differences are undeniable. I would disagree in that my favourite Mariah performance is A Home For The Holidays in 2001/2 era. I still saw what you see as missing. I get you. Where is that person etc. It was raw, un-dubbed and truthful. Our truths are our own. Don't let personal attacks bring you down. We all love Mariah and if she is not living up to what we expect, your discussion is valid. Don't be shouted down by the crazies. Love how you choose to love. On a side note: loving the new posters. So some people may choose to announce their return. The new ones are infinitely more interesting.

Re: I've always wondered (57,228) (57,236) by Andrew from UK
Hey Randy, good question. 2015 Mariah talking to 1990 Mariah? A scene from Friends comes to mind: "Shutup, the camera adds ten pounds." "Yes, but how many cameras are actually on you?"

A Daydream of Emotions? (57,023) (57,069) (57,103) by Andrew from UK
Marcel. So great to see people coming back, new people messaging. However: Emotions is okay at best. *gasp* Yet there is no denying the vocals are impressive. It got me thinking, though, what would Daydream have sounded like with the Emotions/Music Box voice? Sure, somewhere early '95 the voice changed: the voice gave away chest power in return for more elasticity, but that voice absolutely made the album. The voice of Emotions would have killed Daydream as another saccharine offer, I think. I don't think Mariah's albums should face gradation based upon voice, per se (but absolutely if the vocals are not honest). Daydream was raw and fresh and exciting, as was the voice, falsetto and all, decorating it. Big love to Canada. God save the queen. God save *every* queen.

The Daydream detention (57,063) by Andrew from UK
In honour of Daydream I just blasted Fantasy out as loud as I could on the way home (Jeep Renegade - goes verrry loud), singing my ass off, had people dancing at traffic lights, and, then... the police stopped me and I got breathalysed. Sure as shit. Apparently, it's a public nuisance and you can't hold your hand out the window and do Mariah Carey arm movements whilst driving. WTF? Me, laughing: "You don't like Mariah Carey, huh?" Officer: "Who?" Was sent on my merry (Christmas) way. Don't even be tellin' me I ain't a fan. Up out my face y'all. Word.

Re: Regina George in a lamb's clothing (56,946) (56,956) (56,987) by Andrew from UK
*tips cap* I did, a few weeks ago, post a message which read something like this: "Tell me, Baby, from whatever land you're from, have you ever visited the planet Earth?" I don't recall it getting posted. If it did then I apologise. An oversight. My last message to allow other people to post and to back off and allow them free voice to talk didn't seem to work. Many people visit this and don't get a voice because they're afraid. Perhaps of me, also. If I can tone it down, perhaps other people can. But there is shouting down and insulting and actual lunacy in some recent posts. Well, look what has happened. 50 plus likes for your message. They're there. They're just not posting. Defensiveness and accusations of prejudice (the guilty silencer?) abound. My cap is tipped. I miss your posts, mate. Post more often. I'd like to jump on the site and see them.

The newbies (56,749) by Andrew from UK
So soon to make a reply. I will back off once more, as I don't want to a self-righteous (don't argue) voice of this board. I've backed off before and I love looking at the posts of those who never really posted here. I would really like to encourage those who don't post, or who click "likes" here to post their opinions. I think some of us dominate. Let's let debate happen between those who visit but don't post. I think more people should join in the debate and I think their voices should be heard. Let's hear them. If you haven't posted here before, but read it, post, post, post. Post your thoughts and feelings, and don't be afraid to do so. And perhaps the regular posters (I absolutely mean myself) should take a short step back. Many people love Mariah and visit this site. I think it would be great to let them opine. We all love each other for loving Mariah, hopefully. Let's let the newbies show their love and voice their opinions? We need new voices. I'm bored of my own.

Mimi L (56,744) by Andrew from UK
Mimi L, I'm sorry I missed your post. The post was clearly tongue-in-cheek (partly). I don't feel the need to write 5 extremely sycophantic questions. But, let's give it a go:
1. Do you know how amazing you are? I mean, I think you're amazing, and I love you. But do, like, you know how, like, amazing you are? Please don't think I don't think you're amazing. Or I'll scream and scream until I'm sick.
2. You are a legend. You are the legendest of the legendests. You are the legendest of the legendests of the legendests. O. Mariah. How does it feel to be a legend?
3. I love everything about you. Was there ever a time when you didn't think I loved everything about you?
4. Mariah, your hair is amazing. Can I eat some of it?
5. Will you come to my birthday party? There'll be cake.
I will guess that those questions got censored. And perhaps most of this post. However: On a serious note, Mimi L, I don't often respond to people but you can't have thought I would actually ask Mariah those questions. Grandstanding aside. You're "used to" comment is off the mark. I have a different style, different approach and different reality, I suppose. Holier-than-thou comments on this board concerning my posts from people who would rather die than accept and explore Mariah's "faults" (for definite want of a better word) are quite redundant. But I do have some respect for you, actually. So, no, I wouldn't ask her those 5 questions. If I ever met Mariah for that space of time and had a chance for her to hear my voice, I wouldn't waste my time with asking 5 questions designed to make me look like the perfect lamb or kiss her ass. I would use that short time to tell her that, when I was growing up (I am a grown up, I promise you) her music, nay the sound, tone, power, subtlety and resonance of her voice in my earphones at night comforted my soul, and made any hurt and pain go away when I was sad. I would tell her that her upbeat songs made me feel as if the world was inconsequential because I was in ecstasy dancing somewhere in the stratosphere and nothing and nobody mattered for those three to four minutes because she and I couldn't be reached. And I would apologise for becoming so cynical in later life, and being so critical of her, but that I have to choose to put everything in a healthy context, and see her as a music artist (and a mortal, flawed human being) albeit an important one in my life, and, above all things, I want her to be a fucking good one again. I would finish (whilst probably running out of time, and being ushered on, by this point) by saying that, whilst I don't idolise anybody as I don't think it healthy, I love her and will always love her for her contribution to my life and for giving me the insight when I was young, that somewhere on the planet there were people with deep and meaningful souls for whom love, empowerment and beauty were the keystones of life, even if they were not the people around me. And I would tell her that, at the end of my life, after I have said goodbye to all those I have known and loved, I will have her in my heart, for what her voice and music have meant to my life, and know that she will sing me to eternal sleep when the time comes. "Used to"? We don't have cents here in the UK. So that's my 2 pence. Stay well.

Petals (56,727) by Andrew from UK
Randy, good honest questions. I like your question about Petals. I think about that song as a Mariah staple and think of it often. It's brilliantly understated and dangerously ignored in her catalogue as it reveals so much and suggested a deep desire for closure that obviously didn't transpire. "Dandelion" is the sister MC looked up to as a child only, in adulthood, to learn of her serious failings. "Lil sis and lil brother" are Mottola's children with whom she was close and understood the life they were living. Yet, she had to say goodbye to them when she left Mottola and, most heartbreaking about the song, felt guilty, and powerless to help them, had to leave. "Valentine" is surely about Mottola himself as it flows onto him after his children. "Missed a lot of life" can only be about the many years she spent in their house. "I know you really like to see me suffer, still I wish that you and I'd forgive each other" is quite heartbreakingly honest for Mariah to say that it was a two way street in that they weren't what either person wanted. And finally, "I really loved you" must surely be a plea to remember that they did once love each other and to let bygones be bygones. The whole song is emotionally open and I think the most honest lyric, metaphorical as it is, that she has ever written, with the melody and arrangement like a stream-of-consciousness written as a deeply sad, yet understated, apology. As if asking for an absolution as she had to leave all of them to live her own life. It's almost as if Mariah is singing to herself and not to the audience. I guess most people know all this, but, jokes and criticism aside, genius needs to be labelled as such. "Thunder precedes the sunlight."
