Re: If you could interview MC and only ask 5 questions (56,686) (56,697)

1. Why continue to airbrush your photos when nobody believes it and mock you for it anyway? 2. WTF is up with Infinity? 3. Why are you starting to guest on so many of your own songs? 4. How does it feel being the first white person to have any kind of role in Empire? 5. Will you come to my birthday party? There'll be cake.

Oh why did you have to run your Game of War on me? (56,642)
by Andrew from UK
| |

"Time to be heroes, guys." The Game Of War ad is absolutely fucking genius. How relatable, current, normal and fun is Mariah here? Ad "got 1988 Mariah Carey hair". Love it. Run, Mariah, run. "When you run, run so far. Wild horses run unbridled, because if you run your mouth. I like when you run red lights. When you get caught in the rain, with nowhere to run. You're the only one who makes me come runnin'. Thoughts run wild." Run, Mariah, run.

Can't nobody, can't nobody tell me nuttin' (56,575)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Warren's comment is bang on the money, there. E=MC2 is an amazing album. It had energy and vision and was a stone-winner for Summer tunes. When "Can't nobody, can't nobody tell me nuttin'" kicks in I'm always beaming, without fail. Memoirs is elevator music. It's almost sounds like one long dull song. That being said, Angels Cry is art (not the terrible cut-and-paste duet with cheap video added). When "I know I can stand, just pull me back up" kicks in, I'm filled with the joy of what I know Mariah Carey can do. I actually feel a swell of energy in my body. "I shoulda had another mechanic under my hood" is absolutely genius. Very, very often, MC is just genius. And sometimes she's almost genius and it's kind of frustrating. E=MC2 is better than The Emancipation Of Mimi. And that's saying something. But Memoirs is better than Charmbracelet. And that's really not saying much.

The body (56,504)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Some righteous indignation about comments concerning Mariah's weight may well be justified if it weren't for the fact that she airbrushes her photos to within an inch of their life which then makes Entertainment News in the form of mockery. She clearly isn't happy to be "whatever" size if she is doing this. It is also a source of mockery to wear skimpy revealing outfits to try to feel sexy if many people would say that you no longer are. I suppose the adage is that you have the right to admiration only if you've out in the work. In the same vein that many lambs and fans alike want music to be proud of and show off to other people again, they quite rightly want an image with which they can do the same, and shouldn't really be castigated for it. This isn't a love-in, it's fans paying an artist for entertainment etc. And if Mariah wants to be followed by a lot more people than she is right now, she does need to play the game and put the work in. Or cover up more and stop airbrushing.

Two big tig ol' bitties (56,449)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Absolutely, Mariah, get those breasts reduced. "Her breasts have been ignoring each other since 1999," my friend once said to me. She went way too big and then denied ever having done it. In 1999 she took them out permanently and never put them away again. It may help people take her more seriously. Also, it may be age-ist but she's not getting any younger: time to cover up a bit. But vocal surgery is pointless. "Removing nodules" is a fall-back response to questions about her vocal degradation. I think most people know it won't do squat. She needs to record songs she can actually sing live and lower the key/rearrange the old ones. That's all.

Re: All My Life (56,380)

Pretty sure All My Life and When You Believe are the only original songs Mariah has recorded that she didn't compose in some way. I remember hearing an interview where she said the guy handed her the song and said "Do what you want with it" and she told him it was perfect the way it was. Lead The Way is awesome. Imagine if it really was actually used on Butterfly. Try sequencing that in and making it sound fluid.

Giovanni. Don't worry about the angry boy. I got just over halfway through his post and gave up out of boredom. Just don't open any more of his posts unless you want perhaps more dull, boring rants about [censored] areas of North America. I won't ever open one again lol. Thanks for the support but don't worry about it.

Re: Lost (56,334) (56,357)
by Andrew from UK

I'm pretty sure that most lambs and fans alike can infer what I meant by "ghetto mess Mariah". There is, I believe, a general feeling online, and in general, that Mariah is caught up in wannabe-ghetto a lot in recent times (Triumphant it was not) and much of it has been a mess in many ways. "Why you mad?" is the peak of this. Whilst I don't want to upset anybody, I always feel I should tell it how I, and others see it. The opinion that re-releasing Ones and Merry Christmas is good but doesn't in anyway marry with the current output is valid. If you find me offensive or disrespectful I invite you not to open my messages in the future. My actual name and face are always right there. My face alone should put you off. Not to mention the forehead.

I don't find it weird that Mariah has enough class not to post pictures of her very recently new-boyfriend playing with Nick Cannon's children over the internet. I find it weird that you write such a long post about it. "Go to Mimi on your contacts, press delete."

Lost (56,325)
by Andrew from UK

Maybe I have it wrong. Maybe the legacy is about reminding people of the past. I don't know. Christmas book? Good for her. Just can't reconcile her pushing old school Mariah and asking everyone to buy into ghetto mess Mariah. Am I the only one who feels totally lost?

Re: Andrew (56,266): The Art Of Letting Go (56,278)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Aside from the fact that it suffers from recent strange Mariah cop-outs, namely trying to use down-with-the-kids kitchen-window lyrics and the Beautiful-esque finishing way too soon, I think The Art Of Letting Go smacks of genius. It's actually quite beautiful to listen to. First time I heard it I punched the air at the last "Baby letting goooooo..." If only the lyrics were as universal and meaningful or inspiring as the title suggested. I still love playing it though.

M3rry Christmas (56,264)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Chris, I did say a while back that she should come out and say where the music is going. There always seems to be let-downs now. And certainly, just why don't the fans/public get the music they want? Who was Infinity made for? I think it was a shock to everyone's system. And then, lo, a remix to make it even worse? I do not understand fans who bang on about "loving her for ignoring what everyone else wants". This is absurd beyond belief. The record label will only keep her if she can make music that sells, and her fans will only hang around if it's not "vomiting over the microphone" (still love that). Anyway, to be less bleak, a re-release of Merry Christmas isn't that big of a deal. I don't think it will do much in the way of either positive or negative. The only negative I can think of is that it will serve to remind everyone they're listening to 20 year old music. Now a Merry Christmas III, maybe, with a return to the energy/retro/dance of the first and not the elevator music of the second. "M3rry Christmas."

Jazz? Why you mad? (56,244)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Jazz is boring and terrible. Now, you may say that is my "opinion". However, it is not. It is a fact. Fact-a-mundo. It has been scientifically proven to cause 99.9% of suicides. The other 0.1% were either deaf or hard of hearing. For anybody who says Mariah should do a jazz album, get thee to a doctor. Or a funeral parlour, and send Mariah some coffin nails for her career. How boring. It seems like the question is being moulded to fit the answer: Mariah seems to find it easier to sing slowly, standing still, whilst not using a large range. I suppose most people do. Except it will write her off as a has-been for good. Something like YDKWTD with a banging video featuring a hot body, great performances, great promo would help. Jazz? I would rather listen to Triumphant, Thirsty, YM(E), Why You Mad? and most of Memoirs on eternal repeat. With the headphones glued to my head and a loaded pistol nearby.

The clothes (56,165)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Luke, Mariah is, of course, free to wear what she wants. However, like the musical direction (is there one? the "vomiting over the microphone" comment posted here was really funny) the ensemble direction is questionable. Many people want Mariah to be able to compete again, and be an artist they are proud to support once more. It's fair to say it's been a rocky road lately and silly to deny that Mariah hasn't been losing fans and respect at an accelerated rate. If people are getting emotional it's because they are perhaps frustrated. Another recent poster suggested a more mature sound to recapture the fans who grew up with her who have fallen away in recent years, instead of trying to be cool and down-with-the-kids. If many lifelong and long-term fans are admitting they've aged and changed etc. is it wrong to question why Mariah is not? Could argue both ways, I think. However, I would say that wearing classier, less-revealing outfits would further help reduce the mocking that Mariah faces on a daily basis. This is even more true if she continues to put on the pounds at this rate. Society will, for the most part, only forgive "hot" people when they wear such clothes. Why not go for a more mature sound, with a more mature look, a more mature attitude, more grounded behaviour: generally a return to the class that was there in bygone eras but updated? Is it necessarily age-discrimination or prejudice to ask for this? You could probably argue that it is. And Mariah can defy this at her leisure, such is free-will. But it's probably the only thing that will save her career and apeopley damage-control to her legacy.

The schmegacy (56,041)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Edward, don't apologise in advance of people criticising you. You have a right to an opinion. And silence seems golden. I know I will have people rolling their eyes in a "what a surprise, he's negative" position. But it's not just awful, it's scary awful. It makes Triumphant look triumphant. It doesn't fit with the absolute class her efforts have mostly always been. I wonder, genuinely: how can MC stand on stage and bang out her most successful songs and simultaneously create new music which is anathema to them. As per my much more previous posts, it is self indulgent, amateurish, a smack in the face of what labels want, what the fans want, and what music in general is doing. I'm more convinced than ever that Mariah doesn't care. This is beyond niche. It's inaccessible. And worst for it, Mariah criticises some songs everyone loves. I feel guilty for liking the Fantasy original. Most of my friends love Almost Home. It's a polished song which will last and be remembered. Mad? She must be. But hey ho, Christmas is coming, right? We will soon reach the point where the years of bad equal the years of good. Legacy shmegacy. Where is Mariah Carey? I'm looking, I just can't find her. I definitely can't hear her in this remix. Kinda gutted.

Why you mad? Um, because of this (56,017)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Not disappointing? Look I don't want the webmaster to savage me again, because I know he hates doing it, but the remix is an unadulterated mess. It's a joke. Is there a market for this? Do lambs like this music now? It's bad. It's awful. And I think most people know it. I genuinely think less of the the other artists for taking part. It is honestly the worst thing MC has ever released. Ever. Full stop/period. It makes the original sound like an Oscar winner. What's the point of it? Throwing salt into the wound of the original. It's just awful. There are bad MC songs that we all wonder about. And then there is this. Serious questions have to be asked about what the fantasy she is doing.

Do you believe in life after Love Takes Time? (55,647)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Mariah needs to decide what kind of artist she wants to be now. If she hasn't already. Christmas shows and number ones shows and not gettig into shape and all the other recent posts queries suggests she has decided. I said Vegas would be a disaster because she would lip and YouTube would highlight, which it has. But the press is ok. However there is nothing new or exciting and there is no sense of anything new or exciting to come. I agree with another post, sort of, that the remix should be of something new. However, she beats songs to death with remixes. I refer to my post a while back that she should take a long time out of she wants to keep going. Otherwise this is Cher and Farewell. If the fans know the situation they can get on board. Setting up for disappointment (a la MIAM) is disrespecting the few people left who care.

All these seats, now, which one to pick? (55,511)
by Andrew from UK

The Honey performance is awful. Attack me all you like, it sucks, and is not worthy of a professional. And that really can't be argued against. TGIFY is okay, but not really hair-raising stuff. Attack me all you like, it doesn't make it not true. Mariah looked like a high-school girl with stage-fright. Are there any killer performances where she's owning the stage and singing her ass off?

Can all the people declaring Mariah is "slaying" (awful word) in Vegas point to videos showing this. I just youtubed "Mariah Carey Las Vegas Honey" and couldn't believe my eyes. Her outfit is [censored], she's [censored] to move about, the dancing is [censored], all the comments are about how flat she sings and when she starts to lip sync it's like she can't even be bothered. What is everyone else seeing that I, or lost people on YouTube, are not?

Licia (Back In Time) (55,342)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Licia, your views are almost on point. Many obsessives sticking pins into voodoo Nick dolls without much cause is quite alarming. And he wasn't disliked because he's black (why do people keep banging on about race) he was disliked because he's a bit of a d*ck. Yet, your comment that men should be the breadwinners sounds exactly like a comment that would have come out of Nick Cannon's mouth. I can almost hear him saying it. Retract it. Retract it before it's too late, before it gets worse and you grow pubescent facial hair, rap or do comedy so bad that people wish they could un-learn English, get dressed in the dark every day, tell all the big boys about your rude-y parts so that they'll like you, and keep calling Mariah "my wife" as if her identity was now fully dependent upon yours. But seriously gender stereotypes are so old out-dated they're just plain ridiculous now. Unless maybe you live in the Caliphate. In which case, go for it.

Like and the live vs original (55,283)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
Luke, I can't swear here but you are a gucking fenius. That's exactly it. I can't believe you got that from that description. I always remember her live inflections. I love singing them over the originals. Turns out I can't pin point them like you. "On and on and oh-oh-on." Should've been on the original. See this is why fan meets should happen. Enough with banging on about the instrumentals without the vocals or crap songs. You made my day. Better topic: live vocal melodies that should have been put down on the tracks. For instance: the final 'they can try, but they can't take that away from..." live on Oprah. The rest of it was awful, but that melody was wicked.

It's so deep in my daydream (55,274)
by Andrew from UK
| |
|
|
I have absolutely no idea how to ask this question, but let me clench and shake: Does anybody know the Mariah performance of Fantasy where, at the climax of the song, she does the "on and on and on" full belt and, um, different. In so much as it doesn't go down a lot: the last "on" is on the major key, and it's massively happy, playful and banging. "On and on and oh-oh-on." I have no idea if that makes sense. And this is probably ridiculous. I just pissed off my neighbours with it from my car, and found myself singing that part like that and I wanna hear that performance again. Because. It. Was. Banging.
