I really think Willie Nelson really helped MC write a gem. I wish that she would take more chances with other singer/songwriters and not just for a special project or movie. The Obsessed video and song probably would come close to being controversial because she didn't know how Eninem would react to her comedic portrayal of him in the video and the shade lyrics about him. However, she has had many single releases that received a negative promotional plan or very low radio airplay. Can't Take That Away and H.A.T.E.U are on the top of the list for this category. They're not going to get rid of her, she makes too much money every Christmas along with her back catalog. She has a 3 album deal and has only delivered 1. If they dropped her, they'd have to pay for that. Which didn't work out well for Virgin. She delivered different compilations with new music in 2019 and 2020. She can release an album when she wants to, but there's no rush in such a climate. She just finished producing a Broadway show and was discussing making her memoir movie. She's doing a lot behind the scenes. Her deal doesn't include touring, she has a specific deal with Live Nation. The way you all rip her vocals apart no matter what she does just doesn't surprise me, she's not rushing to release new material. I recall many others here many years ago feeling the same. Maybe Mariah means (in one fell swoop with just one word) in a song about damage to your person caused by the emotional abuse you received from a lover long ago is not forever. Since I've had a little time on my hands, I've been reading Rolling Stone, Slant, LA Times, New York Times and others' reviews of her albums that were written when the albums came out. We didn't have access to the internet back then haha. But they all seem to say the problem with Music Box, Daydream, Butterfly, Rainbow and Glitter are the ballads because she's emotion-less. I don't get what they want. My All, And You Don't Remember, Never Forget You, Against All Odds and Lead The Way are every bit as emotional as Celine's All By Myself or Whitney Houston's I Will Always Love You. She only released one album on Atlantic and they dropped her just like MC on Epic with Caution. I guess when you no longer have the radio hits and enormous album sales, female artists have a difficult time keeping their record deals. What is Madonna doing differently that keeps her career moving forward without the radio hits and enormous album sales? If MC would go independent, she would receive more respect as an older female artist. A partnership record deal with a high profile pop or R&B male artist would help kick start her career too. She said she would be fishing for a streaming deal for "The Butterfly Lounge", but it seems to be the general interest in her doesn't warrant the money they would spend. The Clark Sisters confirmed Mariah had them sing their asses off on a recording session, Tanaka was following her every move during the Butterfly "Lounge Sessions" to document the creative process, she also said she had recorded a lot during the pandemic because she had supposedly gotten her voice back. She actually has a lot of material, but I guess she hasn't been able to secure a viable record deal. There was only one copy left. MC could release The Rarities 2 and it probably would sell $500,000 copies easily because of the possibility of the caliber of tracks would be fan favorites more so than the ones on The Rarities. I just want to hear that Bobby Ross Avila track that didn't make Caution. Imagine if it they wrote Usher's GLU that night in the studio. He really captured a retro 70s feel that no other producer has been able to do for MC. He probably pulled out some of MC's best vocals on TEOM. I don't think she dislikes the music, probably more the personal life at the time. But even then, the song "Now That I Know" says all that needs to be said about how Mariah felt about entering into marriage with Tommy. "By your side I can conquer the world." And conquer it she did.
