About Tijl from Belgium: Enchanted by Mariah ever since 'Butterfly' dem Gucci heels in the pool!!!

Re: Superbowl Halftime Show (92,732) (92,733) by Tijl from Belgium
The show becomes energetic by the pacing of the song list, pyrotechnics and background visuals. Mimi doesn't twerk, she sings.

Re: Superbowl Halftime Show (92,729) (92,731) by Tijl from Belgium
Imagine this:

1. The show opens with Mimi emerging from beneath the stage with "I came to have a party." Booom. Fireworks and visual effects with "It's Like That".
2. Sequences into O.D.B. on screens and black Jeeps with dancers arriving on stage for "Fantasy".
3. The next up would be "Dreamlover" with "Juicy" mixed in as during "The Adventures of Mimi" tour.

Mariah disappears from the stage shortly while the outro of "Up Out My Face" is played with a marching band and dancers entertaining the public.

4. "MIMI" signs emerge everywhere with "Shake It Off" followed by:
5. Helicopters and images of a tropical beach appear with the "Honey" Bad Boy Remix with Diddy, Mase and The Lox.
6. Followed by the "Heartbreaker Remix" with Missy and Da Bratt into the original "Heartbreaker" with a guest appearance of Jay-Z. Mariah gives a grand whistle finale while slowly decending into the stage.

Everything fades to black. Screens count down from #19 to #1 followed by the intro of:

7. "Vision Of Love" wih Mariah teasing the audience during the bridge and bringing the house down in the finale.
8. "Hero" not my favourite but I think rather iconic even for the general public.
9. Grand finale with "We Belong Together".

One can dream, no?

Re: Roc Nation (92,714) (92,715) by Tijl from Belgium
Bill, indeed Mariah has made terrible sartorial choices but I don't remember seeing her poledancing or leading some sort of dancer "orgy". The Stella era was her worst in regard to outfits and general image but that FNL performance yesterday has shocked me, especially because in general people find it normal these days for female entertainers to behave in that way. Not a great example. Youngsters learn that acting explicitly slutty (I can not call this sexy or sensual) outshines proper talent and will make you a rich superstar. Mariah is no stranger to skimpy outfits but I have never found her vulgar in behavior.

Re: Roc Nation (92,711) (92,713) by Tijl from Belgium
Of course she can do it. It just requires proper preparation, a good stylist and decent vocal rest. Imagine a set-up as with that live rendition of "With You" on a grander scale. That performance was so classy. I found the J-Lo and Shakira show tacky as hell. They looked and acted as street hookers.

Check this on "Fantasy". Actually, the entire website is a great read for '90s nostalgics.

But this is my absolute favourite picture of Mariah ever.

What is wrong with me? It is actually "Susana" and it is "V Magazine". Thank God the weekend is approaching.

Iconic photoshoots (92,668) by Tijl from Belgium
On the matter of Susannah's remark about iconic photoshoots, which would be your favourite? My top 3 is:

- The artwork for the Butterfly album.
- The shoot she did with Karl Lagerfeld for W Magazine.
- All the artwork for the TEOM album and singles. I believe during
that era her management hit all the right notes. Lol.

That is a typo webmaster, obviously. I would never write "Maria".

Re: Hip pop (92,649) (92,656) by Tijl from Belgium
Maria [sic] was the first to get a "Hip Pop" song to #1. That is why she is remembered as the one breaking boundaries.

Made by David Lachapelle during the "Glitter" era when selfies didn't even excist.

Andrew, I feel you. That night wih Pavarotti is absolutely wonderful. I showed the performance to my best friend, who happens to be an opera singer and he was in awe. Even though he doesn't care about popular music he has become a rather appreciative fan of Mariah. "Good pipes on her" he once said. And he did refer to her voice.

Re: Charmbracelet (92,575) (92,592) by Tijl from Belgium
"Charmbracelet" is one album I hardly ever listen to and every time I do feel as giving it a try, I turn it off halfway through. The one song I still love is "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". The roughness of her voice in certain parts not to mention that whistle is pretty fantastic. "Sunflowers" is a rather dull song but the fact it was written for her father gives it some gravitas. One critic said about the album: "Charmbracelet is like a stream of watercolors that bleed into a puddle of brown." Not far from the truth, in my opinion. The Charmbracelet tour however, was her most creative one and prepared her voice for "Emancipation".

That should have been "tantrum". Lol.

Be careful to use "cohesive body of work". Some people get into a trantrum.

Re: Mariah (92,500) (92,507) by Tijl from Belgium
"Butterfly" will not be surpassed I am afraid. I do enjoy "Caution" because of te cohesive storyline but it lacks the depth and the lyrical genius of her magnus opus.

The stories she tells in songs such as "The Roof" and "Close My Eyes" are timeless and relevant to so many people because they are poignant without being overtly blatant about somebody or certain situations. "Caution" is a snack compared to the fine dining of "Butterfly".

Re: Celine vs. Mariah (92,422) (92,424) by Tijl from Belgium
Mmmm perhaps. "I Will Always Love You" is Whitney's best known song yet I don't find it emotionally appealing. There is an avalanche of belting and high notes which is out of this world but I doesn't affect me. And yes, I think Céline is batshit crazy. This video is the ultimate proof.

Re: Celine vs. Mariah (92,415) (92,420) by Tijl from Belgium
I respect Céline Dion tremendously for her technical prowess but emotionally she does absolutely nothing for me. Mariah gets to me. Especially with heartfelt ballads such as "Looking In" and "TAOLG". The fact that she has written these lyrics lift her material to a higher level. I understand that the general public adores #1 ballads as "My Heart Will Go On" and Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" as they showcase strong vocal capability yet I feel they lack honest and true emotions.

I iron daily, especially shirts for that matter. I don't have pickles for breakfast though. You are ash, I am lotion.

Re: Yummy? (92,242) (92,250) by Tijl from Belgium
I checked the video on YouTube this morning and... really? If this is all Bieber can pull out of his sleeve after four years of supposed personal growth? It can hardly be referred to as a song. And the video stinks just as much.
