Taking care of herself (103,453)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

"Maybe reliving the [Music Box] era has given her the push she needed to remember how great she was." Yes, I think she was surprised too. Deep in her heart, she knows, but to hear and see it while working on MB30 must be an big moment. I'm completely overwhelmed again. You're right, she looks fantastic and healthy. I love her black and white shirt as an hommage to "Dreamlover". She looks very natural, relaxed and it suits her so well. That is all I ever wanted. A happy and healthy Mariah.

Wow Mariah is looking in great shape, from her recent Instagram post. She really seems in a good place right now and taking care of herself. Let’s hope that with the added confidence of looking her best she starts to focus on giving us some new music and working on those vocals. Maybe reliving the [Music Box] era has given her the push she needed to remember how great she was.

Working Hard Remix is on fire. I prefer it over the original.
I had a dream that Mariah had released the Papua New Guinea version of MB30 CD1 with "Randy's Theme" at the end. One can have a "Right to Dream".

Mariah on Twitter (X) (103,413)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Mariah: "I'll never forget creating this record, fully immersing myself in the music that would change my life and connect me with you, the lambily, in a way that bonded us forever." With Music Box she really showed the world there's another superstar, that will stay and make history. When I read the sentence "bonded us forever", I really feel this. I became a fan because of Daydream, but I knew Mariah because of MTV playing "Hero" and "Without You" every day which I loved. I was very young back then, but I knew that she was so special. Her voice, her beauty. Indescribable. And here we are with MB30. This is a moment as Mariah would say.

I thought the same yesterday. How the very young Mariah sung "My prayer" is unbelievable. So much soul and depth in her voice. I love when she sings classic or retro songs. That version was on repeat yesterday evening. I can't get enough of her magical voice. She really takes me to another sphere. Some fan once wrote, it's like dreaming while awake.

The previously unrealised songs are fantastic. It always amazes me that Mariah can write songs like My Prayer in her early 20s. I really think Mariah should keep future new releases as simple as possible. Don't overthink the theme, lyrics, melody, production. Lately, too much time has been spent constructing a song that's current or relevant. Whereas, songs like My Prayer does the opposite, and in a good way. Beautiful song.

MB30 reaction (103,390)

Good morning everyone. I just listened to "My prayer" and got goosebumps when she sings tonight. This is so brilliant. When music does something like this, it's so special. I'm in Mariah heaven since MB30. I also feel like getting this happy 90ies experience back, feeling good. It's great to read we all enjoy it so much.

"My Prayer" brought tears to my eyes when I heard it. Such a gorgeous rendition and somewhat left field for Mariah in terms of covers. More evidence that Mariah needs to put together a "cover songs" compilation album. She's done so many great ones, and it would be nice to have them all in one place.
"Workin' Hard" is better than either of the Cole + Cliviles tracks on the original album. I can totally understand why Mariah's message on Twitter says she's looking back with a bit of regret on this album... because "My Prayer," "Workin' Hard", "All I Live For", "Everything Fades Away", and "Do You Think of Me" are all better than songs that made the final track list.
I would have left off "Just to Hold You Once Again", "I've Been Thinking About You", and "All I've Ever Wanted" to make room for unreleased songs and b-sides if there was a concern that the album would be too long. I wouldn't be able to leave off tracks 1-7 on the original album - those are all songs I never skip.

My Prayer and Workin Hard (103,377)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I knew "My prayer" would be good, but I'm totally blown away. Speachless indeed. Her voice, her emotion, the darker tone at the beginning. So soulful. How could this been kept for so long? But I'm so happy to hear it now. A new favourite of mine. And then "Workin hard". How cool, such a good vibe song. I love it. The remix is hot too. The anniversary edition is "giving me life" and pure joy while listening. Mariah's vault is incredible.

Today Whitney would've been 60 (103,155)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I do believe they liked each other. They had some things in common for sure. I miss Whitney, I grew up with her music. What a voice. Just like with Michael Jackson. The good 90ies, I really miss them so badly. I just bought today a 90ies compilation, because I love the music from that time and have so many good memories from that decade. Even songs which were not so great, are fantastic compared to today's music. We had Rock, RnB, Pop, Soul, Hip-Hop and more genres, there was something for everyone. Real artists and musicians. But back to Whitney, I really wish she would be alive, happy and still making music. So sad.

I know everybody on this board has a different relationship with Whitney Houston. Some love her, some hate her. Pushing that aside, she was a human being first. A mother, a daughter, a sister. She truly was one of the best singers of all time who just couldn't get it together because of some dark secrets she felt pressured to keep. I don't care what anyone thinks, I really feel like she and MC liked each other. And I miss her.

Please not. I don't want a robot AI Mariah on an album. I still dream about a jazz album. I just listened to Aretha's "Bill Bailey won't you please come home". I would love songs like that for Mariah. Retro soul like "When I feel it" would be great as well. If I want Mariah at her best I can listen to her wonderful catalogue from the 90ies, no AI is needed. Of course that's just my opinion.

Albums (103,126)
by whisperingmisunderstandings from USA

I have a feeling that if she does release another studio album in the future, she'll be using some sort of AI assistance. A lot of people have accused her of pitching up parts of her vocal climaxes post-breakdown, and we certainly know she's used auto-tune, both blatantly and subtly (as all pop singers do these days). I don't think it's a stretch to say that, once the technology has advanced enough, we'll probably be hearing Mimi-AI generated vocal climaxes mixed in with whatever authentic studio vocals she can muster. Then during concerts she'll just lip the climaxes as always.

Great post Stacey. Yes, it can't get any more emotional than with "Til the end of time". A person who doesn't feel anything while listening, has no connection to the heart and soul. "Can't let go" is in the same "league". And "So blessed". I tested it today and had immadiately goosebumbs when her voice gets darker on the song.

End times scenario (102,977)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

"I hate to say this but Generation X and Millennials may have witnessed the last days of music having consumption numbers attached." Absolutely. The music biz is gone (with the golden days like everything else right now). I'm so thankful to have witnessed Michael, Whitney, Tina, Janet, George Michael, Prince, Celine and many more. Plus all the RnB artists from the 90ies until 2005. Real artists, no Tik Tokkers, influencers and all the other self-promoters. I like that the Rolling Stones and Tom Jones are still "rocking" and touring. Tom Jones has still a wonderful voice. The same with Pauli Carmen from "Champagne". I love when "How about us" gets played on my radio station. Good music will always be good music. The 60ies, 70ies, 80ies, 90ies were the best musicwise. The last 5 years are the worst, with few exceptions. Luckily we can listen to real music everyday. I don't need the trends.

End times scenario (102,974)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I just had a thought. Rare. I realized that MC's 19 number 1s record is nowhere near in jeopardy. Today's audience doesn't have the attention span to pay attention that long to an artist. I remember a few years when Wendy predicted Rihanna would overtake MC. Rihanna doesn't even have the attention span. She focused on Fenty and stopped making music and she's stepped down from Fenty, at least running it, to be a mom. And how long is Billboard gonna matter if no one is buying music? And then the complex digital units, streaming platforms, radio and YouTube videos have to be calculated now. When will they start counting TikTok use? Use in streaming TV, use in figure skating programs? Don't laugh because figure skating is now only streamed live because musicians sued per licensing. You can watch it but you can't replay it. Then how likely are companies to merge, be bought, or go out of business? Will Spotify be bought by Nabisco and change its name to Cookie Music? Will TikTok be banned by congress? Mariah's Heat would be censored from Facebook these days. How many times would Billboard then have to change its formula? All jokes aside, I'm surprised there are still charts. I hate to say this but Generation X and Millennials may have witnessed the last days of music having consumption numbers attached.

Yeah, a lot of "older' ones (over 30 lol) are not so into Tik Tok for many reasons. Personally I don't get the hype with that app and stupid challenges that were going on. But it's nice to hear about a new Spotify record. Yes, Mariah was often ahead of its [her] time. Especially in 2001 with Glitter and the 80ies funk.

For some reason older generations seem to have a problem with Tik Tok, but the app remains one of the most popular ones and it's the most popular app for teens. Mariah is ascending and securing her place for the future.
Good news for the day: Touch My Body had its biggest day ever on Spotify receiving over 200k streams. The woman released her 18 #1 hit 18 years later and now 15 years later going viral. Mariah has always been ahead of time.

MC's next era (102,961)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

Pop would be nice mixed with classic RnB. But my favourite would be Jazz of course. She could record some great jazz standards and create some new jazz songs. I love her rendition of "Lullaby of Birdland". That genre really suits her. For her look, I prefer classic and natural. But music should be first. I'm really "hungry" for something new. But please no Christmas, except two or three songs on the Rarities part two.

"It's a 'too good to be true' moment." Absolutely. It's too much to handle for most of the people. Her voice, her look, the charisma. The greatest songwriter (102,941)
by Carlos from Brazil

I think the "problem" with Mariah as a songwriter in terms of being reconigzed is that her voice is so powerfull/beautiful and it's just so "in your face" that people can't manage to look more deeply into her. It's like it's impossible for people to understand that behind the talented superhuman vocals there is also a formidable songwriter/producer and the fact that she is super pretty doesn't help either. It's a "too good to be true" moment.
