About Will from Australia: Lunatic crazy about Ms Carey

Brian McKnight (89,804) by Will from Australia
I went to see Brian McKnight last night and it was Mariah who introduced me to him through the WYC duet (although I do still prefer the solo version).

Anyway before the show the DJ that was the support act played not one, not two, but three Mariah songs - Someday (definitely a lamb), Emotions and Honey (so so def remix).

Everyone was bopping along and it was just awesome to see Mariah back in the good books with the general public again.

Mr McKnight didn't perform any of WYC which I expected but had hoped. Boy can he sing.

Re: Five most iconic Mariah recordings (89,788) (89,789) by Will from Australia
I'd put in songs that are a "I dare anyone to even try to attempt to match this" vocal showcase which for me are:
1. Whenever You Call
2. Lead The Way
3. We Belong Together
4. All I Want For Christmas Is You
5. Just the whistle part towards the end of Bringing On The Heartbreak

Snippet song (89,751) by Will from Australia
How awesome would it be if Mariah dropped a song from her set list (looking at you Touch My Body) at every concert and just used the five minutes to sing some snippets of songs she doesn't perform usually like Melt Away, The Wind or Mine Again. I'd die.

Re: First Mariah item (89,648) (89,659) by Will from Australia
First item I had in my possession was the debut album which I borrowed from a girl in my street who let me look through her music collection. I almost died when I came across it because Mariah wasn't popular in Ireland back then (changed after Hero/Without You). I think the first purchase was Daydream, I can still remember rushing home to listen to it on headphones so nobody would disturb me.

AIWFCIY 19th No.1 (89,640) by Will from Australia
I read somewhere that said All I Want has a long lead up this year in the charts before Christmas Day, like 6 days from Billboards last chart which will give it a massive chance of making it higher than last years #3. With it also being the 25th Anniversary of the song and Merry Christmas.

Re: When I became a fan (89,619) (89,639) by Will from Australia
I first became a fan when Emotions was playing in the charts and the first time I heard it was while I was a 10 year old running around the house and the video was playing on the TV and literally stopped me in my tracks and I'm obsessed about Mariah from there on.

Giving Me Life (still) (86,388) by Will from Australia
Can't move on from this song. Just obsessed with it and have it on repeat driving everyone crazy. It has that vibe that The Roof has but I was totally not ready for The Roof when I first heard it as it so so departed from that other Mariah pre-Buttefly and it took a while for me to appreciate it. But GML is at a moment in her career where i'm totally ready for that Roof 2.0.

Funny how we accept when our artist develops into something we might not have been ready for back in the 90s to something we now long for. GML is one of her best songs ever. I played it from the start of the outro with the electric guitar as if it were an intro to the song (songs on repeat) and it really changes the tone. Try it.

Nailed it Todd. That cracked me up.

Re: A lengthy meditation on the album (86,306) (86,325) by Will from Australia
While I do think Mariah has earned the right to sing the alphabet backwards through a helium voice if she likes, some of the points you have raised, especially the comparison between her writing from those days to these days, are quite interesting and I praise you for being so honest with your opinion.

Caution track review (lenghy, bring a splash) (86,278) by Will from Australia
GTFO
Solid song, catchy and different to what you would expect from a MC track. Production is on point and probably the most current sounding song on the album. Vocals are weak though at times and sound strained. It'd be interesting to know when this was recorded as her vocals lately sound much stronger than what was laid down here. Video is one of the better vanity videos we've gotten from her.

With You
Somewhat boring and an attempt to have a big belting ballad on the albumin but without the punch of any of her previous works. The repetitive beat and lyrics are too basic in their composition. Disappointing that this is the one big ballad that made the cut.

Caution
Refreshing pace and throwback to the sound of Aaliyah. Definitely a grower, didn't care much for the climax repeating of Caution over and over, less is more.

A No No
Can't get enough of this bop. Lyrics are on point and the song is full of so much diversity that some of the previous tracks lacked. Interestingly I don't find the repeats of no no annoying on this one. Probably the most catchy song on the album and should get the single treatment.

The Distance
A cool jam, just flows well and the beat is everything when it kicks in. Vocally the climax is a real highlight of what Mariah can still do, especially when she sang it live on Fallon, sounded better than the recording when she hit the belts. Had trouble understanding what she was singing (for laughs and for life I thought was flies flies lol) Another song worth a single offering.

Giving Me Life
Where do I start. Epic. One of the best produced songs she's ever recorded and a real highlight not just on the album but in her career. On first listen I was already digging the roof vibes from it, but my god, when that outro kicked in, gagged. Just love the song so much, especially as the first part is so happy and love sick but then the outro has something haunting and menacing to it. Get some BOTH and TBO vibes from it too. Take a bow MC, giving me life.

One Mo'Gen
Sounds like it was a filler from TEOM that never made the cut. Not digging it and maybe that's because I'm coming off the high of the last track. Not sure if MC's voice on this one, sounds different but not in a way I'm down with. The song is nice and easy to listen to but I find it boring.

8th Grade
Another favourite and just the type of song you can drift away daydreaming to. Beat is very similar to some other songs on the album. Vocally it sounds like it came from an earlier album as it's very strong compared to something like GTFO. While the outro on GML takes that to another level, the outro on this does the complete opposite for me. Just doesn't fit and leaves me asking wtf was that. Kinda sours the song.

Stay Long Love You
How you want it how you want how you want it... on the cutting floor. Only song I think is a pure filler on the album. Just sounds a mess to me.

Portrait
If I'm honest I reckon this just doesn't suit the tone of the album but I get why it's there but I feel like it's very formulated to fit the 'Outside', 'Looking In' and 'Petals' criteria which for me makes it sound more forced. I do like it until the bridge which sounds too different to the rest of the song.

Overall
I really really like the album, probably a 7.5 out of 10 for me (LTL circa 1991). Probably would've liked some wow ballads like when I first listened to WYC or WBT. Runway should've bumped SLLY from the list. Glad lots of fans are loving the album and for so many different tings which is a positive sign for someone like MC with such a large fan base.

Re: Funky Pop Rocks Vinyl Mariah figure (85,938) (86,152) by Will from Australia
How cute is it. For my birthday a few weeks back I got it as a gift (I also was given a full life sized cardboard cutout of Mariah which is giving me life). Was so hard to decide on keeping the Mariah figure in its box or taking it out of it. Decided eventually to take her out and put her beside a little Christmas tree as I already put my decorations up.

Caution top 4 so far (85,890) by Will from Australia
What's everyone's Top 4 of what we've heard?
1. A No No
2. GTFO
3. With You
4. The Distance
That was very hard to decide. Great start so far.

New album (81,074) by Will from Australia
When do we think the new album will drop? She's been in the studio lots over the past year but seems to be back concentrating on enjoying her lifestyle which makes me wonder what's doing with it? (For the record she can enjoy herself as much as she wants lol.)

Tanaka (77,646) by Will from Australia
Just viewed Marian's tweet with Tyler Perry and it disturbed me that Tanaka was in it. He wouldn't be there if he wasn't with Mimi and I dunno, seems to be enjoying the spotlight a bit too much for me. Not sure how real his feelings for Mariah are, I hope she doesn't get hurt.

Copying (46,471) by Will from Australia
Black Widow vs Thirsty, who finds the similarity just too close to be coincidence? Somebody here is copying the other. This Is How We Do vs More Than Just Friends, I just listened to MTJF randomly and jumped up out of my seat, Katy Perry has completely copied the chorus vocals in its tone and phrasing. She even goes on to mention Mariah, it's either a dig or a complement, I don't know.

Me I Am Stacey: The Elegant Bestower (46,082) by Will from Australia
As a regular reader and somewhat less contributer to this board I just wanted to take the time to say that Stacey is an absolute pleasure and treasure to have on this board and as a fan. She always has so much class and dignity when addressing any conflicts of interest on here, with the innate ability to infuse the conversation with positivity. Well done Stacey, I don't know you personally but I think anyone that has you as a friend can count themselves blessed and dem babies of yours must be very proud of you. Right now my favourite MIAM song is Dedicated which is ironic as this post is dedicated to you. (Lovefest over lol.)

JLo observation (44,862) by Will from Australia
What's going on in the music world? We've all critiqued Mariah's lack of promotion but JLo was nearly everywhere including the World Cup and American Idol and sells half of that Mariah did? She also had all that press coverage with her break up. She's also a lot sexier looking than Mariah right now but it made no difference. Now there's no debating the talent but for someone who you'd think was popular right now, to sell 25k in her first week is astonishing. Maybe once you hit 40 you're done? Maybe we've been too harsh on Mariah.

Top 5 (44,788) by Will from Australia
1) Make It Look Good
2) Money
3) Cry
4) You Don't Know What To Do
5) Heavenly
That was hard. Least favourite is easy, Meteorite.

Laughed at (44,683) by Will from Australia
News.com.au is the most read news website in Australia, one of the headlines right now is: "WTF? Mariah's crazy claims about her new beverage." So sad but her image could be beyond repair at this point.

Is a change coming? (44,634) by Will from Australia
I found it very interesting that Mariah attended that silly drink press conference in much more suitable attire than we've seen in quite a while, I mean she wore a diva gown to the bloody playground before. I wonder if it's beginning to sink in that the public ain't buying the chanteuse diva image. Or if it's a case of that's Mariah the business woman and the other is Mariah the singer. Either way I hope a change is gonna come. On another note, the gloves. I think she has suffered nerve damage from either the fall or something else. She usually always has her right hand covered, sometimes both and in the video for You're Mine she puts her right hand to her hair/face and there is a strange shaking going on with it. Has anyone else noticed that?

Single situation (44,524) by Will from Australia
Personally I'd release YDKWTD now with a fun video with a narrative and probably very little of Mariah in it as her image at the moment is not doing too well with the public IMO. I could see that going top 10 and she should follow it up with Make It Look Good then and If YDKWTD goes top 10 I could see MILG going No.1. Hopefully she gets some Grammy noms and performs Heavenly there and smashes it. Then she releases One More Try in a rerecorded version ft George Michael. It's sad but I actually think YME is probably one of the strongest songs for singles but was released at the wrong time. I'd never release Meterorite as a single as I don't think it's radio friendly at all, clubs yes.

Meteorite (44,470) by Will from Australia
Great post Alexis etc. I was listening to Meteorite and acknowledging the similarities between it and Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise) which correct me if I'm wrong started as the dance track first before the ballad. Wonder if she'll record a ballad version of Meteorite

PJW (44,438) by Will from Australia
Thanks PJW for standing up for me through the barage of negative responses. You have the intelligence to interpret the true meaning of it. Sometimes people on this board are so blind and defensive but it is what is as MC would say.

I feel so sorry for MC (44,414) by Will from Australia
My heart breaks at how things have gone for Mariah. Firstly I think she actually has lost her live voice and that's why she doesn't sing live anymore, she's just a recording artists now and I'm happy for that to be so if we still get music from her. Secondly I fell sorry that she was so fake in the NBC special to try fit in, we all know that's not her, even though we like it, it's just not who she is and nobody should have to change fundamentally who they are. Finally I feel like there is so much going on behind the scenes with God knows what, but everything that's knowable will always be known. Love the album, love Mariah.

Make It Look Good (44,082) by Will from Australia
Seriously can't get enough of Make It Look Good after a few days of listening to the album. Just a spectacular song.
