A few days ago, you said labels have no control, and I explained to you how that is not true. Labels can influence placement on playlists through Discovery Mode. It is a feature for artists which is some kind of digital payola, where labels received reduced royalty in exchange for prioritized placement. It is not pay by play, but if you understand algorithms, it is very effective. The placement of a song in a playlist with millions of users is very consequential. Im not sure why you're comparing it to you playlist lol. They are not the same. Regular users normally plays a playlist pushed to them by the app, and then stop at a certain point. So makes a massive difference. So the past few weeks, Mariah has not been added on some of the biggest curated playlists, until recently. Brenda's song has been on playlists mentioned below that often doesn't even have to do with Christmas. And that already works against Mariah in terms of boost from algorithms. It has a slower headstart. Like I said, Brenda's team has been aggressive this year and we give them that credit. Mariah's hasn't, probably they felt they didn't need it which I think is a mistake. Brenda's team is playing bunch of playlist gamifications this year. She's at the top of some of the biggest playlists on Spotify currently. For example, I just saw that they removed Mariah on that large "Christmas Is Coming" playlist with millions of users, and they just added her yesterday lol. That is just one. Artists can deal with Spotify for higher playlisting and other algo boosts for lower pay royalty. This is perfectly legal by the way. So Mariah can be at the top in all other streaming platforms. Brenda is ahead on Spotify but Apple Music is bigger on this side of the pond, and Mariah is ahead on that one. Mariah is also bigger in sales. It's kind of weird, when Mariah re-entered the chart at 17, Brenda was just bubbling under the Hot 100, then she re-entered at 8 and Mariah jumped to number 4. As I have stated, these two songs have legs of their own, the one that makes it to number one will be based on its own merit and promotional push on big events. AIWFCIY is a pure number 1, people keep buying it after all these years, they keep playing it and streaming it, no gimmicks. If Mariah really wanted, she could break The Beatles' record, just three great collabs with Drake, Ariana and Taylor Swift should take her there. They are really going all out this year with this huge promotional push to celebrate RATCT's 65th anniversary. But why now after 4 years of AIWFCIY being the number one Christmas song? Well I think I know why. Some people in the music and television industry are tired of hearing MC being called the queen of Christmas. It started when MC wanted to trademark the Queen Of Christmas last year. She angered Darlene Love and Elizabeth Chan. Many in the music and television industry were angered by MC's trademark move as well. So, I feel this is their payback for MC attempting to take the queen of Christmas all for herself and from sweet Darlene Love. Everyone already feels sorrow for her how Phil Spector used her voice and she never was publicly credited on a lot the songs she did for him. She recently had a stroke and I played it on repeat between receiving the news and reaching her. The melody itself and the words "we don't say goodbye" are comforting in those terrifying moments when you think you might finally have to. Unfortunately the album Immortality was on had a lot of filler and was way too heavy on the schmaltz. Without "My Heart Will Go On" I don't think it would have sold half as well as it did. One notable thing from it was the retelling of Barry Gibb's move into composing for other artists once the group's career had begun to wind down. He has surprisingly written many very well known and recognisable songs for other world famous artists. Mariah ought to have done this a long time ago. She may still yet have time. In terms of her own releases, a duets album is preferential to a standard studio album that will chart one week only to disappear the next.
