Re: Questions for the Webmaster (73,080) (73,085) by Edward from USA
Eric, wow. The same sentiment here. I first heard Mariah singing "I Don't Wanna Cry", but I thought it was Whitney Houston. I didn't hear anything else from her up until one day in school. I was bored, put my headphones on while in class, and was listening one of the two stations that played music in the English language in my country back then. Then I heard that voice, the voice of an angel, it was Mariah singing "Open Arms". I was like: Who the hell is that? I spent the next day listening to the same station trying to catch her again, and there she was again, but this time the DJ said her name. I went to the store and got "Daydream". That's how everything started. Every time I listened to that album I was taken into a surreal world. Listening to her was like listening to an angel, I would just close my eyes and let go. I went back to the store to inquire a little bit more about her, and then that's when I realized the woman had already released "Mariah Carey", "Emotions", "MTV Unplugged" and "Music Box", I didn't see Merry Christmas. Out of the four, I got "Music Box", and as I discovered all the past hits, I knew I had found the one I would be fan of for life. After that I purchased the rest of the albums, Merry Christmas being the last one. Those who didn't experienced those golden years won't ever understand it just by listening to her CD's. That's why many of us expect decent and well crafted projects from her. She got us used to it. Sometimes some of us come hard on her, but it is just out of frustration because we know the woman is gifted and can definitely do better. Back then it was about the voice, the songs, the lyrics, and I felt butterflies in my stomach every time a new single or album was on the way. It was a magical era.

Re: Nose (73,072) (73,073) by Edward from USA
She definitely had some minor procedure done. Yes, there's contouring, but you can contour but so much. I remember when the sheep went with Mariah's tale as to why her boobs were bigger over night. She candidly explained that her boobs got bigger due to some magical push-up bras she only knew about, lol. Many people here on MCArchives Messageboard back then were burned alive, some disappeared and other were cyber-decapitated for stating it was bullshit. Maybe, just maybe, in the future, if she says her nose has been out for years, the sheep would then put the contour theory to rest. Wait a minute, it could actually be contouring, since Contourella is her manager. Wow, I had an Contour-epiphany. Remember that Mariah's nose looked like that because "Contouring" was invented by the first quarter of 1995. Stella looks like a bat with her contouring though, sorry to those little creatures for the comparison.

Re: Michael Jackson (73,063) (73,066) by Edward from USA
Exactly, he was more than a dancer and a vocalist, he was a genius. He was a visonary and a great lyricist. His videos were epic. Besides his voice, people went to see the show, the super production. He was a real showman, just like Madonna and Beyonce are in their concerts. Mariah and Whitney on the other hand relied on their voices, they couldn't dance, but they could sing you out of the stadium with their powerful voices. Once Whitney lost her voice, she didn't have anything to entertain with anymore and people started walking out of her concerts. People go to Mariah's concerts to hear her voice and her songs. There's nothing special about her cheap stage and her dancers, with the exception of her Christmas shows. It's like Sarah Mclaughlin. I love the woman, but she only has her voice. People go to see her on her piano singing with that beautiful voice of hers. She doesn't dance or do anything else. Now imagine if she started faking her piano playing and lipping most of her songs? Total disaster.

Who needs a label? A reality show would do (73,065) by Edward from USA
If she really didn't need a record deal, she wouldn't have one, period, but she obviously does. There's a lot that goes on behind to promote artists and their music. Mariah has total creative control of everything she does with her music, and I think that's backfiring somehow. Record labels do not have the big budgets they used to have to promote artists that wouldn't listen or are stuck on stupid with their bridge burning tirades. At the end of the day, Mariah is doing everything she can to be relevant, but great music. There's nothing wrong with a record label focusing on projects and artists who are actually justifying the need of a label. At this point, with or without record deal, it's kind of the same for Mariah. She's not doing anything worth putting money into. The few coins she probably made from "I Don't" wouldn't justify money spent on any type of promotion and events created for the purpose or making things happen for her. I guess there's nobody to blame this time, Mariah seems to be sabotaging herself. If I were L.A., and with her propensity to blame others for the outcome of her bad decisions, I wouldn't want to be seen hanging out with her. He is dealing with business, with artists that are still interested in the Grammys and other award shows. When Mariah and Stella make the comments they make, how do you think her label peers feel about it? Would you go near her cuckoo circle? I don't think so.

Re: Blind item (72,951) (72,956) by Edward from USA
Maybe that's just the sentiment in general that most people have about her. She definitely can go out and say and do whatever she wants, she has the right to do that as much as people have the right to talk about her and feel a certain way, at the end of the day she's a celebrity she should be ready for the clap back. Mariah has many sycophants, and many of those are part of her "yass-queen" lambs. They could see her about to jump off a bridge, and they would cheer saying: yass-queen, hit a high note on your way down. Mariah has become a joke, and she isn't the one laughing.

The silence of the super-yass-queen lambs (72,905) (72,910) by Edward from USA
Marissa, you were spot on. Remember when Mariah was rambling nonsense before she had the nervous breakdown? Yes, that time Cindi Burger had to take the microphone off her hand because she was going Looney Tunes on camera. Well, I think we're witnessing that same type of behavior once again. I'm pretty sure these "yass-queen, let them have it" super lambs wouldn't do what Cindi had the guts to do if they had the chance in a similar situation because whatever the queen does or say should be followed blindly. They would empowered Mariah to keep on bringing negativity her way. The delusion is so rampant that they actually think Mariah doesn't care about fame anymore. Well, evidence of the craziness that has been going on show a woman desperate for attention and relevancy. But oh well, those same lambs would also say that MW was a docu-series and that there should be a part 2. If being a fan means to do all that, I'd rather not be one. I'm glad MCA's messageboard is not run by one of these people, it would've disappeared three months after it was put online. Maybe they should come together and open Mariah Daily again, where everything used to be pink, with unicorns, rainbows and butterflies.

Re: The Grammys foiled me (72,825) (72,835) by Edward from USA
Well, these things are coming out of Mariah's mouth, so she's the one making it happen. Who effing cares if the Grammy's are boring or predictable, she, as a legend, shouldn't give a damn about it. By acknowledging them, she's just bringing bad PR her way. People won't be saying she dissed the Grammy's, they'll be saying she dissed whoever was there because she's bitter. If she were really that hurt, why didn't she turn down her nominations and wins on 2006? One thing that really bothers me is that whenever Mariah is asked anything anything Adele related, she doesn't even acknowledge her. It's either she didn't hear her album, the song, or she goes off on a tangent. Adele is talented, graceful, sweet, a mega star, and on top of that she adores Mariah. Why can't she effing say something remotely nice about her. It really gets on my last nerve. Who the hell is this woman, how do one connect to her through her music anymore? She gives a good performance and she thinks the gets a bitch pass because of that? I can't, I really can't.

The company you keep (72,806) (72,817) by Edward from USA
Mariah is 21 years late to be making those derogatory comments about the Grammys. At this point in her career and with the perception most people have about her, some humbleness and less attitude would do her image and career a great service. I know she's responsible for whatever she does, but she's gotten into this unapologetic mode since Stella came into her life. What she doesn't seem to realize is how that behavior pushes people away from her music. Why complain about the Grammys now and not when you got three back in 2006? Maybe because you got them, that is. She's a very good point of reference when talking about boring performances, so she shouldn't have even uttered those words. If Beyoncé's performance was boring, I don't know what I should call her performances and the cheap production of the stage of her concerts. It seems to be that the cool, down to earth, humble, classy Mariah we all grew to love is definitely gone. I thought she would be refraining from making those types of comments and play nice. If you don't like the Grammys or think they're boring, keep it to yourself, your name is not what it used to be, and burning bridges is not a good idea at this point in your career.

Didn't she? (72,766) (72,770) by Edward from USA
Andrew, I think she sang over the recording in some places, but I don't think she lipped it. The second performance (Vision of Love) was more demanding and she played safe, but sung it live.
(Friday 17 February 2017; 1:14)
Vision of Love at Jimmy Kimmel (72,769) by Edward from USA
Another step in the right direction, Mariah. We all want her to go there with her voice, but it's better when she plays it safe but live than phenomenal but partially lipped, especially on occasions in which she only has to perform a couple of songs. I was laughing at a comment on YouTube that states "Wait a minute, she still can sing, I'm in shock." That obviously comes from a casual listener who had the opinion that she couldn't sing anymore. The fact that comment was made could be an indication that when she delivers a good performance, people might give her a chance again.

She left her polyps and nodules at home (72,763) by Edward from USA
Step by step, but on the way there. I don't really care whether she stood there or jumped up and down. When it comes to performing, I care about what she's always been known for, her voice. Let's give the woman a break and focus on the fact that she delivered vocally. Yes, the song is not that demanding, but isn't that we we've been asking for, a song that she could replicate live? We all know she can definitely do better, but let's not be too harsh on her when she might be trying to get things right. There's a difference between being delusional (thinking that she messes up on occasional performances due to polyps and nodules), and being realistic given recent events. At this point, I'd rather she crafts a great song lyrically and delivers it with conviction rather than having a song so demanding vocally that she would have to rely heavily on background tracks and singers. We would be delusional to say Mariah's voice is in top form, but we all know she could be consistent should she take care of her voice and write great lyrics. At this point it is not how powerful her voice is, but about whether she makes good of use of what she has left, and she did that with "I Don't" at Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"I Don't" live (72,755) by Edward from USA
When Mariah delivers, it should be noted and appreciated. She seems to be she needed to fall hard in other for change to start taking place. I just she continues building up from there to what we know she's capable of. The vocals were too clear and true to the studio version, that I thought for a moment she was lipping, but she wasn't. Kudos to you Mariah. We're here waiting for more.

"I Don't" live (72,753) by Edward from USA
I'm glad she finally arranged a song in a key she could replicate live without relying heavily on her backup singers.

Re: Grammys (72,675) (72,681) by Edward from USA
Great point T.J. We shouldn't judge an album based on whether the artist is popular today or not, but in terms of its content and quality. Mariah happened to be going against an excellent album. I love Daydream, but Jagged Little Pill was as great. Alanis didn't snatch those Grammys from Mariah, the people who didn't vote for her did. And Alanis still today is an excellent lyricist.

Beyoncé (72,612) by Edward from USA
Beyoncé's performance was phenomenal. Those visuals, wow. She didn't have to move around much, those visuals were great. Beyoncé, not as talented vocally as Mariah, but world away from her in many other areas. I definitely think Mishka, Stella, and Mariah should be taking notes.

Adele, just wow (72,607) by Edward from USA
I just saw Adele's acceptance speech and how she didn't let pride get in the way of praising Beyoncé. This woman is like the biggest star right now, yet she's so effing humble, it's beyond me. I haven't listened the Lemonade album, but I'm going to buy it, those words, coming from such a humble and graceful person, were enough for me to give it a try. Mariah, we miss you, stop with the act and bring back that person we all know still lies in you. That beautiful, thoughtful, humble, caring person couldn't have faded away just like that. We do really love you.

Re: Mariah doing George Michael tribute / Grammys (72,586) (72,594) by Edward from USA
Mimi L., as Eric said, maybe since NYE, big event organizers don't want to work with Mariah and the way the situation was dealt with. Mariah took Stella's wonderful advice and went with her "they sabotaged me" version of the events, knowing very well that it would have future consequences. When she got a spot for the national anthem, she didn't have the diva reputation she has now. She was working to rebuild her career with humbleness. Mariah didn't have to complain directly to anybody, she used her music for that, it was the beauty of it. So, don't be surprised if we don't see Mariah on these big events as much as we would like to.

Re: New radio call in (72,547) (72,556) by Edward from USA
I don't think any woman should be subjected to being harassed just because she dresses a certain way, but Mariah isn't just any woman, she's a woman in the music business, and she very well knows that everything she does would be magnified and scrutinized. When Mariah showed the power of her voice and her song-writing skills, people talked about that. People will talk about what she shows them, including over-exposed boobs, and diva antics. Now, when she keeps giving boobs galore, she shouldn't be surprised when a comment is made about them, as Bill said, nobody would say that shit to Celine or even Janet, heads would roll. The problem here is that there's no balance in Mariah's World anymore. If she were giving great music with decent videos, things would balance themselves out. Mariah nowadays is known for her diva antics and her boobs exposure. Add to that her clearly fake reality show and you have a huge Joke in the making. Back when Mariah was a force to be reckoned with, some DJ's were fired for making derogatory comments about her and the fans that would call requesting her music. Such thing wouldn't happen anymore. Everybody from Michael, Whitney, Toni and George Michael were heavily talked about, but they were stars and they knew there was a price to pay for fame. It's frightening to see Mariah in some of those pictures, not because of her looks alone, but because there's something in face that shows a woman that is unstable. She can control what we see and how perceive her. When she has a 12-year old taking pics of you almost naked and as high as a kite or drunk as a skunk, what does she think people would talk about? It's not like people are sneaking into into her bathroom secretly snatching pictures of her boobs and ass. If you want to be private and enjoy your life like any other mortal, do not pursue being a celebrity. Just like there's an industry where celebrities made lots of money based on their celebrity status, there's an industry that makes lots of money talking about them (how they dress, how they act, what they say, who they hang out with, the comments they make).

Re: What's next? 5 year projection (72,485) (72,490) by Edward from USA
The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Unless Mariah cleans house and allow professionals do their job at managing her career, she would still be on her path to becoming a joke and tarnishing her legacy. Given the fact that she's not spring chicken anymore, and considering how the music industry is when it comes to ageing artists, If she keeps with mediocre music and the "look how I touch my boobs" videos, she'll be looking more desperate in 5 years.

They do, but "I Don't" (72,473) by Edward from USA
If people were really interested on "I Dont" or talking about her music, it would be reflected on "iTunes" and "Amazon", but it's far gone from their top 100 lists. Watching a video doesn't mean anything if it doesn't move viewers to actually purchase the song in question. Considering "Honey" and "Heartbreaker" as videos that show sexy within context, one can clearly see that lying down touching herself and giving the middle finger won't just cut it. Mariah has definitely cheapened her brand with most of the decisions she's made lately. As much as I dislike Contourella, I hold Mariah responsible for she is the one with experience in the music business, yet she keeps going along with the craziness. If they both feel womanly empowered to keep acting the way they do, they should take the heat with a happy face. There's nothing like equal opportunities for all.

They'd better don't (72,440) by Edward from USA
I also think they won't address Nick directly. What he said we already knew, the truth. They'll "leak" gossip to TMZ gossip. Nick loves his kids and is doing everything to co-parent and be a good father, but it's evident he's moved on from the circus and I don't blame him. I can only imagine the pressure he had coming from all directions and having Mariah's crew treating him as a gold digger.

Re: I don't see nothin' wrong (72,429) (72,433) by Edward from USA
Totally agree with you. Betty White is coming out with a new show called "I'm a woman, yes I can". She'll be showing skin, boobs and ass. It will be perfectly fine. She'll be wearing all the dresses Mariah wore on "I Don't". I'm pretty sure youll be the first one to tune in. If it's Ok for a 47 year old to act and dress like a 21 year old because she's a woman, it should be Ok for our Grannies to show their bodies too. Aren't we all for women empowerment?
