About Manny from U.S.:
I have loved Mariah since I heard Vision of Love back in 1990. I was captivated by her range, tone and beauty. I wanted to know more about her. I have followed her career and life ever since.

Mariah's official website (45,483)
by Manny from U.S.

|
|
Mariah has a new message on her official website. She mentions she will "hit the road soon". I'm excited. Last time I saw her in concert was in Vegas. It's long overdue. I haven't seen anyone mention that the WMA will be broadcasted in the UK. Finally, we will see Mariah open the show with "Meteorite" (Sunday August 3, 7pm).

Jezebel article (45,424)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
The picture from the Jezebel article looks fake. It seems they got the pic from the photo shoot and photoshopped it to make her look bigger, etc. If you look closely around the outlines of the dress and hair, it looks like they tampered with the picture. I don't believe that's really the original picture. I really wonder now what the original looks like. Viewing the Jezebel website, it seems it's not prestigious.

Mariah's personality (45,398)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I've never seen Mariah as a 100% diva. On the surface she looks like a girly girl but she is tougher than what she seems. She is more than that. I was thinking of Mariah throughout the years. I have always admired her strength and tenacity. I know Mariah is seen as a diva. But there is so much more to her than what we sometimes focus on. I was thinking of her injury. Mariah was videotaped in a wheelchair saying "the show must go on". I would've been crying like a little girl. I can't stand hospitals. She made the most of it and had her bling slings. When she was pregnant, she took a pic of her belly with a butterfly drawn and "dem babies". She made the most of it. When Eminem kept making negative remarks of her she recorded Obsessed and made a video mocking him. Even though she says the skit from "Honey" is not of Tommy, I feel she did mocked Tommy. Even Walter Afanasieff said it was an FU to Tommy. I could go on. I've never seen Mariah as a diva. She used her wedding dress (to Tommy) on the We Belong Together video. I was laughing so hard when I saw that. I see her as a Long Island girl with a personality that is full of different layers. I feel like I get her. She has a self deprecating sense of humor. Mariah the artist, comedienne, entertainer, and yes a diva.

Alfred Roy and Mariah (45,241)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
The picture on my avatar has Mariah, her nephew Shawn, and Alfred Roy at the hospital. Mariah gave Alfred the sunflowers in the background. Those flowers were the only ones Alfred was not allergic to. Hence "Sunflowers for Alfred Roy", the song. Mariah has mentioned there was tension growing up in a broken home. Mariah was mending her relationship with her father at the end. To sit there and judge her, would be judging her pain. Honestly I don't know why some people leave messages here. They sound spiteful as if they have something against Mariah.

Stephen you beat me to it (45,219)
by Manny from U.S.

I am listening to Fourth of July. Happy Fourth of July. After that, I will listen to all of Mariah's "America The Beautiful" performances. Maybe she should release a patriotic album. It'll include the "America the Beautiful" performances, Star-Spangled Banner (both of them), and when she performed for the troops.

Fairweather lambs (45,123)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Reading the messageboard for the past few days proves to me some lambs are just "fairweather" fans. I can't wait for a successful album when Mariah repeats the Emancipation era. The "lambs" that are writing her off and speaking so negatively about her, will eat their words. They will jump on the bandwagon and love her again, just because she is #1 on all the charts again. It seems some people dislike her when she's flopping and love her when she's on top of the world.

I'm thirsty (44,888)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I was driving pass Walgreen's and a little voice told me "oh you're thirsty, oh you're thirsty",. so I went to buy The Butterfly drink. I texted my lamb Darren and told him it tastes like "M" (as a joke), Mariah's first perfume. For some reason it reminded me of the perfume. He said he thought the same thing. Ha ha. I guess I'm still "obssessed" with Mariah.

Stephen / Vegas residency show (44,672)
by Manny from U.S.

Ha ha ha. Your comment made me laugh. It was not only funny but weirdly, I've been craving liver with onions. Who knows why? I'm curious if anybody has fantasized about Mariah going a la Celine and having a residency show in Vegas? You guys think she could, few nights a week? Could her voice handle it?

Butterfly drink, M.C.E.O. (44,624)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I became curious about Kevin Liles, the man next to Mariah at the Butterfly drink press conference. He is the former CEO of Def Jam. I thought: how would IDJ executives (or technically what used to be IDJ) feel about Mariah joining forces with the previous CEO of Def Jam? Mariah is looking for more business opportunities. Mariah even made a joke of almost naming MIAM, M.C.E.O. Kevin Liles has a big vision for Go N'Syde. They are joining forces with 40/40 clubs, owned by Jay. The state of the music business is different now. The major music companies fell apart when file sharing came along. iTunes became bigger. I wonder how much iTunes paid Mariah to have her CD streaming? It does seem unfair for us fans how Mariah is handling this. We see Mariah as an artist, singer, and performer. Mariah is The Voice. Mariah is looking at it from a business perspective. So much money is at stake, why would she risk losing it?

Tony - "It's a Wrap" lyrics (44,584)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Tony I think you have part of the lyrics confused. It's not apprehensive. The lyrics go "I was oh so acquiescent but I learned my lesson." Just wanted to clarify. BTW. Like many of you I'm confused about the promotion. The WMA and the Matt Lauer were good platforms for the promotion. This album should be promoted and given a bigger chance because it's a real good album. I liked it more than Memoirs and E=MC2 from the first time I heard it. The whole album has a new sound and vibe. Mariah was really creative in putting this together.

Better promotion (44,276)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I would read the messageboard and thought people were referring to the WMA as the NBC special. I didn't know she has a special on Saturday night on NBC until I did more research. I go to the TV guide online and it's called "Mariah Carey: At Home in Concert with Matt Lauer". This time I am irritated with the Mariah team. Get it together. If the fans are not getting all the info, imagine the other people? When did they mention the special? I only saw people here speaking of it and just refer to it as an NBC special.

It was worth the wait (43,982)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I love this album. The beats, orchestra/piano arrangements, and vocal gymnastics sets this album apart from others. Mariah fused different styles of singing and music. At times I felt I was a kid listening to my favorite songs. I can totally see myself listening to "Faded" after a breakup ("always somewhere but you're not there for me"). I noticed the trailer for "Art of Letting go (November 2013)" has the "Faded" high note. The whistle notes have a different timbre. This is more noticeable in "Heavenly". The last whistle note sounded heavenly. She really played with that register. The choir made me want to go back to church. I can't compare this album with any other one and it sounds refreshing. I haven't thought "this is 'My all' part 4". Someone mentioned "Meteorite" could be a gay anthem. That's exactly what I thought. (The Andy Warhol reference, its catchy dance beat, the "star" imagery and lyrics "put on a show".) If Mariah markets it right this could be a big club hit period. I know I'll listen to this on my way to the clubs. "Make it look good" is a gem. She was creative on "Supernatural". It sounds like a lullaby but you can see it as a romantic song as well. Dem babies sound so cute. I want to buy all 3 copies. It was worth the wait.

You don't know what to do (43,707)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I totally love this song. Mariah was enjoying performing this song. I thought when Mariah described "Thirsty", it would sound like "You don't know what to do". I like how the flow of "You don't know what to do" feels danceable throughout the song. I like how she sings "from playing the fool each time" and similar parts. On "Thirsty" the flow of the song changes when she sings "You thirsty from a dream", etc. It seems to slow down the energy of the song. I like the beat and how "Thirsty" is throwing shade at someone. It's like "Obssesed" and the lyrics are hilarious. "You don't know what to do" reminded me of Whitney's "One Million Bill".

Parody of new album (43,498)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I came across, I guess a spoof of Mariah's video, the one where she explains her new album title. I thought it was kind of funny. I hope you guys can have a sense of humor about it. I am not making fun of the title by posting this. I love Mariah and can't wait to listen to Me. I am Mariah, The Elusive Chanteuse. By the way, are there any parodies of Mariah you find funny? I like the one where Cheri Oteri (SNL) plays her for the Divas Live.

thank you KaizenOcean (43,467)

Thank you KaizenOcean for the post on the glossary. I was going to post something related when I saw the new title had elusive in it. I recognized it was part of Honey's lyrics ("I can be elusive with you honey"). I was just going to write that I need to grab my dictionary when I listen to Mariah's songs. I read much and I feel I have an extensive vocab. Several times though I've had to look up the meaning of words from Mariah's lyrics. Mariah has helped me expand my vocabulary.

Stop assuming things about Mariah and Nick (43,381)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I think it's funny how people on this messageboard assume they know what is going on with Mariah's marriage. We are not close friends or part of their family. To start saying that their marriage is practically over for reasons A, B, and C is hilarious to me. Seriously, we cannot assume how Mariah feels. The way Mariah and Nick get along is cute to me. On America's got Talent, I remember seeing Mariah jump on Nick and him catching her. They looked like two high school sweethearts. Nick has done some mistakes but recent pics of them together seem they are making it work. Until I see her make a statement about a separation or divorce, I will send positive vibes their way. I think she is happy having the family unit she always wanted. Why rain on the parade and demonized them saying they're not fit for this marriage?

Album title (43,090)
by Manny from U.S.

When I read "Me. I am Mariah" on her Facebook page, I remember an interview. Mariah was talking of a picture she drew as a little girl. She said she wrote "Me. I am Mariah". She said something along those lines; that she was meant to be famous or something. Does anybody know which interview this is from?

Album releases (42,850)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
I was watching Wendy Williams. A member of the Wu Tang Clan was interviewed. He said they were releasing an album but only one copy of it. It's going to be worth a lot obviously, like having a painting from a famous artist. He said something along these lines. They decided to do something like that since music can be disposable with all the downloading. I wondered how the lambs would react if Mariah released just one copy of her new album? (*evil grin*)

Thank you Randy (42,823)
by Manny from U.S.

|
Thank you Randy, you made good points. I feel similar to you in the sense that I've loved Mariah since I was a teen. I am 35 years now. I follow her career but not as when I was 11. I used to have all the time in the world. I have to think about my reality (rent, bills, student loans, family). Mariah has her family and kids to care. She is 44, not 20 anymore. She had an album every year for most of the 90's. Yes, she is a singer but this is show business. Now, she has other modes of income (perfume, endorsements , etc). If I had the money and comfort to raise my children like her and enjoy them, I would. She gave us 20 good years of her attention. Now, her babies need her attention, especially growing up in this business.

Shock value vs talent (42,561)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Thanks you Robert-Anthony for that positive pep talk. It reminded me of why we fell in love with Mariah. That voice. The voice which can go from low, husky tones to angelic piercing tones. The other day I was watching when Mariah sang "America the beautiful" at the NBA finals. I hadn't seen it in a while. I got "goosebumps" all over. I'm going to take this post to another direction. I am a 35 year old man. I have seen how the music industry has changed. These days the more you shock the more you sell. About the comparison of Mariah and Beyonce. I am a fan of Beyonce. But Mariah has kept personal and artistic integrity. When Mariah said she hadn't listened to "Drunk in Love", I thought it was a shade at Beyonce. But I realized the hidden sexual meanings in " Drunk in Love". It was not a shade. I think Mariah, being the prude that she is, would not want to even listen to it. Yes, Mariah dresses sexy and shows all these angles of her breasts, but she still has a more innocent persona. To me, Beyonce wanted to use the shock value to sell more records. She is in the same league as Lady Gaga (who gets vomited on) and Miley Cyrus ( who wears jumpsuits with marijuana prints). I admire and applaud Mariah for keeping her integrity as a person and as an artist.

Happy anniversary Mariah (42,363)
by Manny from U.S.

|
Happy Anniversary Mariah who is eternally 12. Wow, I still remember when I was in 6th grade watching her on MTV. I wanted to know everything about her. I bought the album. I had to buy the cassette different times, as I played it nonstop and it would get damaged. Who remembers those days? I bought the VHS The First Vision and play it nonstop. My favorite part was her backstage at the Saturday Night Live singing "All in your mind" acapella. The high notes.

Mariah stories (42,286)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Please more stories on meeting Mariah. I'm enjoying the stories much. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting her. I know of three lambs that did. One of my friends met her during Rainbow era at Virgin records (in store signing). He said what other people mentioned here. That TV does not do justice to her. That her skin is flawless and her speaking voice was distinctive. My other two friends met her backstage in San Diego (Charmbracelet tour). They said she was tall; she smelled delicious (like body spray) and was wearing a lot of make up. One friend said she looked like a human Barbie because she's so beautiful. Wow, I can't believe I remembered what they said. I mentally took notes. Am I obsessed or what? I hope I met her "someday", I liked her since VOL.

Nick Cannon stand up special (42,176)
by Manny from U.S.
| |
|
|
Last night, I came across Nick Cannon's stand up special. I was wondering if any other lambs have seen it. When he talked about Mariah and his kids it was hilarious to me because it was so shocking. In the Tommy's years, Mariah would have not been associated with any of this. I thought he would not be funny but I was laughing hard at some jokes. The humor is for adults and not your typical Nick Cannon persona (Nickelodeon, America's Got Talent). The Mariah jokes are sexual in nature. He talks about a breast feeding fetish. (Webmaster: I'm not sure how much details I can write here; not disrespect to anyone.) If you've seen it: What do you guys think about his Mariah jokes? Is it too shocking and can it damage Mariah's image?
