Merry Christmas to the MCA famiily. MC looks so happy these days. Cheers to a new album and all of those multiple projects mentioned for 2023. I truly believe MC has one more great album inside of her.

Miss you most at Christmas time (101,948)

This song came on while running errands. So pretty. I have heard a fair share of AIWFCIY on the radio stations playing Christmas music. But it's been nice to hear other MC Christmas songs that are so so good (Baby Please Come Home, Santa Claus Is Comin To Town). I wish MYM would get more play. It's such a beautiful song.

The cringe of it all (101,950)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
When you have the world's attention and you are shining, there is always someone who is going to try to take your shine away. Walter A. is bitter because no one is calling him to collaborate with. His sound is outdated and quite frankly boring in today's pop music world. MC made him famous and now he is always speaking negatively about MC around this time every year. Ryan Tedder took his place in the music industry. Hopefully, we will get a Ryan Tedder/MC collaboration soon. Why you mad Walter A.?

The cringe of it all (101,947)
by Norman from USA

Walter A seems to be in desperate need of a spotlight on his career. Why does the man insist on being a massive tool when it comes to AIWFC? He's credited and receives half the royalties every year. Get your degree and go write another hit if you're so pressed. Geez. Laugh your way to the bank and give it a rest already. It's giving bitter, girl.
And who's this Chan lady still going on about the QOC shizz? Wasn't the case thrown out or something? People will remember Mariah losing the fight for the TM before they'll ever remember her. And that's no shade to her career - she obviously has one. Maybe someday someone will know her outside of being referenced to Mariah. We love everybody.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it. May you have the good fortune to spend it with your loved ones.

I really feel that all of the negative conversation on the web and TV about MC's petition for the queen of Christmas helped to propel AIWFCIY to #1 earlier on the charts this year.

MC To All (101,930)

CBS, Joseph Kahn, Charlene Manca, and Nicola Doring worked their magic with the production of the shows. I am really pleased how her vocals turned out. Lots of editing for the CBS special, but it is okay. MC might be nominated for a primetime Emmy next year.

Hey Randy, you have been posting a lot lately and I enjoy reading your perspective on things. Are you trying to take my special guest star status? Lol. There have been many postings about MC's voice, performances and TV interviews.

Whoopi Goldberg mocks Mariah (101,899)
by Randy from USA

I tend to agree. I don't want Mariah's legacy to be Christmas. I know I'm hard on her live performances but words can express what her music means to me. Through The Rain got me up and to work for years when I was stressed. Right to Dream was my go to when I was drunk and depressed. Outside is my being gay and ostracized in the 90s anthem. Close My Eyes is my PTSD song from being born with all the antics that come from a 15 year old mother and a 21 year old father. All I Want For Christmas is nice. But it's hardly anywhere on the soundtrack of my life. I actually listen to O Holy Night and Oh Santa more. Not because I don't like AIWFCIY, but because I know if I leave the house any time after thanksgiving, I'll hear it.

CBS may have pulled the special (101,864)
by Brad from USA

Looking at the CBS website, technically her special is still listed under the programming but there is no promo on the sight for the special. Moreover, the promo photos are not there at all. This is worrisome for the only dimension of her career that still exists. I only hope her voice isn't totally gone and that she isn't ill or in pain. We wish her only the best. My sense of it is that her focus on the use of the whistle register has ruined her chords. I'm just not sure. Very sad indeed.

Why is everyone surprised? (101,859)
by Bobby A from United States

Wait a minute, Randy. Are you saying that the 2006 Grammys performance of WBT/FLAB was a combination of lip synching and live singing? I have always thought that the performance was totally live. We have been bamboozled for a very long time now if that is the case.

Why is everyone surprised? (101,852)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I'm definitely not here to gloat. I'm actually perplexed. I called voice deterioration in 1998/99 when I saw her on The View and Whitney Houston embarrassed her at the Oscar's. I called lip syncing in 1999 when every climax to Heartbreaker and Can't Take That Away was flawless yet she was a raspy struggle through the verses. But I was attacked for it and called not a real fan. The time I was attacked the most was when I called the 2006 Grammys a master cut and paste job. So to see all of this hoopla over these Christmas concerts baffles me. To me honestly, Mariah always sounds this bad. Pull up the Global Citizen concert from last summer. That Hero is almost identical to the MSG one a few days ago. That's why I wasn't spending $400 to see her. She got me once with the Charmbracelet tour. The other thing that you guys don't realize is that they are going to edit and dub the hell out of the Christmas show for CBS. What'll be interesting is how she'll respond when people start juxtaposing the live verses the televised. I take no joy in saying I'm right here and to be honest MC has surprised me too many times for me to say it's over for the voice. I said that in 99 and she shocked the hell out of me with Home for the Holidays in 2001. I said it again in 2012 and she shocked the hell out of me with the Jimmy Fallon's impromptu. I said it again in 2016 and she shocked the hell out of me with Stay the Night on Twitter. All I've wanted since 1997 on Oprah was for her to tell us what the hell happened. But like Stacey reminded me ... what the hell is she supposed to say?

Hero live MSG 2022 (101,847)
by Bobby A from United States

The critics are going to rip the CBS show to threads on the 21st. Who knows, maybe the same editor who saved The Adventures of Mimi DVD can make the CBS show watchable. I just don't know. I am really worried about MC's career right now. Who would have thought in 1990 that our beloved Mariah Carey would totally lose her voice?

Supreme songbird (101,843)

I just realized this today. The last time MC sung her butt off was on You're Mine (Eternal). The highs and lows on the song were executed very well. Wow. That was in 2014. It will be almost 10 years next year. I guess it is time to order me a FYE CD of the You're Mine remixes.

Thanks for this, I hope she see this and realizes she's not fooling anyone, we can see it and so can the general public. Honestly, at this point its probably only the surgery that can save and repair whatever damage she's got going on. I always said her vocal issues stem from way back to at least 1994. That first tour did something to her voice. And it's blaringly obvious by the "Daydream" era. Sure she still does sound good, but one can tell already she's lost a good chunk of her main voice, maybe a nodule or something else and ever since then it's been downhill vocally for Mariah. Like Celine Dion, Mariah Should come clean. Enough of the façade already. People want to see you win Mariah, but you've got to want to win yourself too. Get professional help. She's never really worked with a vocal coach and at this point a speech therapist (does she even know new tricks of the trade like singing straws, humming and vocal fry exercises, warm ups for pre shows and cool downs for after shows? etc.) and that's why she's in this predicament today. Smh. I feel so worried for her. Get help Mariah, quit being so damn stubborn and delusional.

So what we can really expect is a heavily edited CBS Merry Christmas To All broadcast with the original album tracks. It is going to be interesting on the 20th. MC totally can not sing anymore. It is sad to admit it. The honey butterfly vocals are no more. I don't think even removing her vocal nodules can repair her voice. I wonder what Patti and Stephanie Mills have done after all of these years to preserve their voices.

I'm pretty sure Trey, Tanaka and Mary Ann would say the same. The evidence says otherwise though. Many attendees are commenting that while it was fun, they noticed the struggle on the live parts. Of course as good lambs many are blaming it on the shows in Toronto. Sadly, she won't do anything about until another very publicized new year disaster happen again. If she were to go on tour with her newly recovered pandemic voice with two year rest, she would not make it past 3 shows and she knows it. Don't expect her going on tour after this. At this point it seems she's damaging her voice further trying to sing. I hope she doesn't listen to the sycophants and ass kissers and take care of her instrument, an instrument that has been considered national treasure.

MC is doing the best with her voice that she can do at this stage in her career. I am thinking about all of the singers this month where there have been reports about their vocal cord problems like Martina McBride, Lee Ann Rimes, and Reba McEntire. What do all of these three singers have in common? Age and constant performances.

Watching the clips, [one] can tell she's really struggling to put on a "singing" show but her voice is really not having it, so she talk sings or alters the melody. I really wish Mariah would get professional help. Now she's also having lower range issues as seen in the "Emotions" and "My All" clips with the unintentional vocal breaks. Another thing I noticed is the repertoire itself isn't the best for a singer her age seeing as it was written "16 to 25 minutes ago", she's missing a lot of qualities that were there before which enabled her sing so well – [agility], fluid and seamless registers, stamina in terms of youth etc just the ease of singing she once had in [general] which was an amalgamation of all these factors and more working hand in hand. It's [sad] to see the last of the two true [divas] struggling; with Celine and her health issues and Mariah and her waning instrument.

Charmbracelet - 20 years (101,727)
by Randy from USA
| |
|
|
I remember a lot about that era. I couldn't believe how beautiful Through The Rain was and the video is stunning. She was still doing lipping climaxes to the records, but she was on every show, despite not having a hit single. The View, Oprah, Matt Lauer interviewed her, MTV gave her a special. I didn't care for a lot of the album and at the time, I remember one reviewer stating that she did so many different things on the album that it was like mixing watercolors only to end up with a puddle of brown. I remember Lyor Cohen saying that she brought class to DefJam. It was a time where MC garnered respect because of her earlier hits that weren't as far away, but Glitter wasn't the nail in the coffin. Charmbracelet was the first and last time I would pay to see MC live. She lipped most of it. I was in full fan mode that night with butterfly and rainbow stickers all up and down my arm. It definitely is a moment. Through The Rain is the only way I make it to work many days. I still play Lullaby and Subtle Invitation. The rest of it is largely forgotten. But the era isn't.
