What's wrong with MC (110,684) by Dove from United States I kind of wish she would be open and transparent about what's going on with her so we would know she's not being drugged against her will like Brian Wilson and Britney Spears were. It could be nothing but it could be something. My ADHD got a lot worse when I hit perimenopause. Maybe something like that happened with her too. I haven't seen her with a champagne glass in her hand all the time like during the Infinity era. A lot of people with mental health issues (I guess, I don't know what to call it) self-diagnose with alcohol, and sometimes other drugs, so this is not me blaming her for liking her splashes or anything. I want to mind my own business but (almost) everyone minded their business with Brian Wilson and Britney Spears for so many years and look what that did to their brains. I hope she's just tired because she hit menopause, or some medication she's taking (with good benefits that outweigh the bad) is making her lethargic. If she came out and said it, we wouldn't need to be worried. And yes, I know she's a celebrity but some of us have been following her since childhood and she feels more like a family member than a stranger. She's given a lot to the world. I'm glad Brian Wilson found a sweet partner to take care of him in the 90's up until he died this year. I wish Nick would have been that for Mariah instead of the self-serving narcissist he turned out to be. How disappointing. Selena Gomez came out and talked about the changes in her weight and demeanor being caused by medication she needed. I don't follow her super closely or anything but I remember seeing her talking about it and it made me feel more at ease about the changes in her personality. Like, at least there's a legit reason. She's likely to out-chart Mariah, but who cares, as long as HFIA is as good as Caution, I will be happy. If we hope for a chart position for HFIA, we will be disappointed. When Sugar Sweet was released, reception was extremely positive. But because it didn't chart, we don't like it anymore. The quickness lambs switch on her based on chart position is sad. She's really a victim of her own success. I love the song, love the beat, it feels like a classic. It doesn't feel out of place to her catalog like that I Don't mess. And she's collabing and she increase their profile even a little. She's in her giving era, launching careers. So I guess the Mariah now that we have is the different Mariah from what she used to be. Having the voice back then helped her in building her confidence and her issues with insecurities. If "Sugar Sweet" had been released by Ariana or any other hot artist of the moment, I'm sure it would've taken off. Sadly, Mariah just isn't on most people's radar these days. We, her remaining fans, will always root for her, but it's becoming clear that the general public just doesn't connect with her as an artist anymore, almost as if they can't relate. That's why she hasn't been able to ride the wave of AIWFCIY into a big follow-up project. Maybe she's said everything she had to say, but until she starts singing from her heart again, I don't see anything changing. I know that amongst her fans, we're waiting with baited breath, but the GP doesn't have her on their radar either. The two lead singles have had a positive reaction from the fans and have stoked a new sense of optimism amongst us as well, but neither of them are doing anywhere near well enough to be a threat to any upcoming album release. I believe that it's going to hinge more on the album drop and how well it can garner attention in the r&b space, as opposed to the pop/mainstream space. I still believe that a comeback single is entirely possible for her; some heartfelt song from out of left field with a great hook and thumping beat could do it. It's been said here many times before (I know I've said it), but it bears repeating - her heart's gotta be in it. The thing that Taylor has brought to the table in her dominion of the charts, is a team with a lot of business savvy, sharp marketing skills, well crafted public image, and a no-holds-barred drive to plaster her everywhere. And while I think Mariah could benefit from a level of that (I think Gamma is trying-adjacent), I think Mariah is so done with that part of her career/life. She went from IDWC to I Don't Wanna Try. You know, it's kind of like when an introvert makes future plans when they're excited, and then as the day approaches, they hate themselves for making the plans. At least that's my take on it. I'm cautiously optimistic about this new album after hearing the "Here For It All", snippet. I guess we'll see on September 26th. But I'm glad you're still hyped for a big moment from this era. Here For It All (110,447) by Edward from USA I have to agree with you about her vocals sounding a bit "chipmunkey" on the belting part of the "HFIA" clip. As for that impromptu performance of "Stay the Night", it was from about five years ago, during the pandemic. At the time, she said she'd gotten her voice back and wouldn't ever tour again, but sadly, that didn't last. I don't think she could replicate those vocals today; her voice is just too far gone. Mariah is a perfectionist, so what we're hearing in the "HFIA" clip is most likely the very best she could deliver, chosen from multiple takes. Audio engineer who willingly went along and approved of this needs to be fired or he at least should encourage her to re-do some of the notes. She can actually still belt so beautifully. Remember this? Emancipation-riah is still there like it's 2005. What I don't quite understand is why it's not translating sonically on the record. I really love the melody, she absolutely delivered on that front. But somehow, the overall sound just isn't hitting. Mariah, girl, there's still time to edit. She's a legacy artist now, her last 11-track album came out nearly a decade ago. Back in the '90s, when Mariah and Whitney were killing it, did you really think any legacy artist from that time could compete with them? Exactly. So let's not pretend we're still in that era where a new Mariah release is a head-to-head chart battle. This is a completely different stage of her career. Here's what will likely happen: the album drops, us Lambs grab it immediately, and within three or four weeks, it's gone from the Billboard Top 100 albums. Mariah's waited too long, and outside of us devoted fans, most people have moved on. That's not pessimism, just a dose of realism.
