Randy / you're not alone (48,592)
by Edward from USA

Randy, It is frustrating for me too. Some fans might say Mariah should stay the way she is, but that doesn't seem to be working that well for her for a while now. I don't want Mariah to be a different person; I would just like Mariah to be more relatable and humble. She was this multiracial artist with the big voice that everybody loved and could relate to because her story was real, some of her songs were about social issues; she was fun, vulnerable, but sweet and unpretentious. As time went by, her boobs got bigger, her ego went to the roof, the diva came to the front, and everything was more about Mariah the person and not her music. For those who say Mariah doesn't need to change anything, remember that Mariah was successful again with The Emancipation Of Mimi not only due to the music, but to a huge campaign to make people like her again. She definitely was being advised about changing her ways. As fans we want Mariah to be happy, but we want at least a piece of that Mariah we all fell in love with. Beyoncé has played her cards very well. She's laughing all the way to the bank, collecting Grammys and other accolades because she knows how to play the game. Once you believe your own hype, it's a wrap.

Signature song / Stacey (48,587)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I think that Mariah's signature song is definitely "AIWFCIY". Different from Celine's "MHWGO" and Whitney's "IWALY", "AIWFCIY" returns every year to be exposed not only to those of us who experienced it when it first became popular, but also for those from a different generation who might not be interested in Mariah's music, but who will inevitably sing and bounce to her Christmas gem. 40 years from now, Celine's, Whitney's and Mariah's catalogs might not even be remembered, but Mariah will have that one song she'll be remembered for, not only for a few decades, but maybe for centuries to come. Stacey, nice to know you have little lambs in the making, that's what I call a true fan. Thank God Eric got rid of the thumb down.

Mara / the article (48,523)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mara, it is almost Christmas, just don't pay too much attention to some of those articles. As for the article itself, besides the obvious shade at the beggining of the article, most of what it states there is the truth. I know we don't like Tommy, but when I read his book, I got many pieces of information that helped me understand Mariah better, and how things went down between them. The book is not a tell-all book, it is more about his career in the music industry, and Mariah of course has a chapter, but he doesn't viciously attack her or anything like that. I'm not painting him as a saint or anything, we all know what he did, but for me he and Walter are in the past now. Mariah since then vindicated herself, had a wonderful EOMM and two beautiful babies. As for Walter, I used dream of a collaboration, but now he's been acting phony on his interviews. He should work with Celine.

Paul / the meet and greet (48,500)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Paul, I was originally going to the concert on Tuesday the 16th, but I'm going on Sunday the 21st instead. I switched tickets with a friend, since she realized she wasn't going to be able to make it, and I didn't want her and her daughter to miss it. If I were you, I wouldn't stand there in the freezing cold waiting to get a glimpse of Mariah, for you might never get to see her. Mariah will be playing two nights in the row, yours being the first one, and most likely she'll be jetting out of there as soon as she hit the last high note on the show. I love the fact that Mariah is keeping herself busy with these concerts. Sitting home thinking about a failed marriage wouldn't be a very festive idea.

enwar00 / Christmas (48,487)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
enwar00, I'll definitely be going to one of the Christmas concerts. I don't think she'll tour the US with "The Elusive Chanteuse", so this is it. It's going to be refreshing to hear her sing Christmas songs. I think that other than "AIWFCIY", she'll be tapping more into the second Christmas album, her present voice is more suitable for it.

enwar00 / how could you? (48,453)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
enwar00, I was curious as to why you had suggested removing "Help Me Make It" from my playlist, since it is a fans' favorite, just like "Slipping Way" and "Do You Think of Me". But now I understand, you hadn't caress your ears with it yet. Isn't it a great track? As simple as Mariah and some acoustic strings, no gimmicks. According to a friend who work on the production of Tennessee, Mariah recorded the song just like many country singers do, straight up, not cut and paste. I've a friend who loves old school Mariah, and he loves that song. I hope you got a chance to listen "My Love", even though Mariah's voice sounds kind of raspy on it, I love it. I think it is a good song.

B / the mystery man in the picture (48,452)
by Edward from USA

B, the mystery man in the picture is me. I wouldn't post a picture of somebody else. I initially started my account with my face pic, then I changed it to a couple of funny baby faces, then I'm back to me. As for befriending you on Facebook, I'll gladly do it as soon as I open my new account. I had one, and eventually deleted it.

Beacon Theater / Abraham and B (48,422)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
An only Christmas songs concert? I can't wait. I'm anticipating 10-12 songs and a couple of guests, maybe John Legend. She'll redeem herself by completely killing AIWFCIY, perhaps with a mini a cappella intro. She has to start the first show on a high note literally. First impressions are attention grabber, and since in 25 years this is the first time she's playing these types of concerts, everything needs to be on point. Abraham and B, congratulations on my part. There's nothing like being in love on the cold holiday season, cuddling is much needed. With some relaxing splashes, and "Subtle Invitation" or "Everytime I Close My Eyes" playing in the background of course. In the middle of all the chaos on this board, seeing two lambs in love brings joy to my heart.

Lee TS / peep this video: must watch (48,301)
by Edward from USA

Lee TS, the guy in that video is what I call a real fan. He is a true fan, but never delusional. He's very objective too. Never had I agreed more with anybody than with everything he says in that video about Mariah.

Randy / why so nervous (48,298)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Randy, imagine riding a car that you don't know for sure whether the brakes or gearshift is going to work properly when you need them. Now imagine that happening on a regular basis. That's why Mariah is always nervous and insecure, because she doesn't have the control over her voice that she used to have. It is nerve wrecking for her to stand there not knowing if she'll be able to hit this or that note, and not only high notes, but some not so difficult ones too. The situation is serious because Mariah is having problem even harmonizing. Whispering used to cover for some notes here and there, but even that is unpredictable. I pray she finds a team of doctors that could help her stabilize her voice. It pains me to see her struggle like that and being ridiculed. She deserves respect. Whoever leaked that voice-only recording should be prosecuted.

Mariah, Rihanna and the other phony (48,265)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Consistency doesn't constitute perfect singing. Nobody is expecting Mariah to sing like back in the 90's. When she sings live and well, no necessarily perfect, nobody complains. She is criticized because, just like Whitney, her voice is what she is known for, no matter how many songs she's produced or written. Katy and Rihanna weren't ever marketed as great singers, but the contrary could be said about Mariah, Celine, and Barbra. Pretending that the "Huge Flashy Pink Elephant" is not in the room won't make it go away. At the end of the day, Mariah makes an effort when people don't sugarcoat things, e.g. first Elusive Chanteuse concert reviews. She improved from the second show on. If people hadn't complained, she probably would've kept on thinking that she was killing it when she clearly wasn't. There's not a conspiracy to sabotage Mariah, people just hold her to higher standards than those other phonies. This is about consistency, no perfection.

Baby, are you listening? (48,248)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Baby, I agree with you 100%. Mariah's voice is in great shape and always has been. People don't understand that Nick put some drown-her-high-notes powder from a NY bodega in her tea so she couldn't perform well. And there was a fan in the audience that gave her the eye too. I agree with you that her performance was phenomenal, one of a kind. Such haters should go away. Baby, don't let the haters make you go psychotic, it is not worthy and it might affect your health. We need your very well balanced opinions here. They are much needed.

G.G. / the reality (48,218)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
G.G., I couldn't have said it better than that. Mariah's voice is completely unpredictable and out of control. It is so funny to see how many are demonizing Nick even for her bad performances, but when Nick wasn't around, what was the excuse? She's supposed to be in a good place vocally, but then this. What happened was that Nick held her over the phone with divorce matters, it was cold, she couldn't hear herself, Nick put something in her tea, none of her 20 nannies showed up to care for the twins, she just had an off day. How long are we going to keep being just like the "yes people" she has around her? Stripping the music away from the performance, one can realize how bad that was. But enough with this horrible comments, let me be a good lamb and say: "Everything was on point, those haters should just go away. Mariah's voice is in great shape and has always been." Hate the media, but only when they tell it like it is, Mariah does something about it.

Stacey, Luke (48,173)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Stacey, I completely agree with you. I hope she's learned that being a legend doesn't give her a free pass for being late, especially when it's not the first time. Luke, how could it be Nick's fault that Mariah was once again late? If you have been following Mariah's career, you know very well that she is mostly late to everything. Mariah was late and it was nobody's fault but hers. I'm sorry for the fans that were left waiting in the cold, it was really cold yesterday here in NY.

Darryle, thanks for replying to my post. I have very decent mp3's of "Help Me Make It" and "When I Feel It". Those songs weren't ever released for purchase, so I don't think that sharing them with you would constitute piracy. If you want one or both, let me know your email.

Non album tracks (48,066)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I've been putting together a playlist with b-sides, songs that were released as extra tracks in deluxe and international editions, some new songs from compilations, and other independent projects where Mariah is not necessarily the main vocalist. There are some songs that I left out because I simply don't like them, like "Secret Love". I'm not a fan of lists, but I'm posting this one hoping to hear what some of you guys think. I'm thinking about dropping five songs to make it an even 20. Which ones would you drop? 01. Endless Love 02. Everything Fades Away 03. Do you Think Of Me 04. God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 05. Sleeping Away 06. I Still Believe 07. Thank God I Found (Make It Last) 08. Do You Know Where You’re Going To 09. Every time I Close My Eyes 10. Whenever You Call duet 11. Against All Odds duet 12. There For Me 13. Miss You 14. I Know What You Want 15. So Lonely (One and Only Part II) 16. Lil Love 17. We Belong Together (Lenny Kravitz mashup) 18. Help Me Make It Through The Night 19. 100% 20. My Love duet 21. Right to Dream 22. When Christmas Comes duet 23. Triumphant (Vintage Throwback) 24. Almost Home 25. The Art of Letting Go

Reuben Walton / Nick / always remember (47,948)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I'm not a fan of Nick, he is childish and has diarrhea of the mouth, but does that mean he is a horrible monster? If we're going to start the blaming game, isn't he the man Mariah chose? She was a grown ass 38 year old woman when she married him after having dated for such a short period of time. They were happy, you had to be blind not to see how happy they were. It takes two to dance the tango, and I'm pretty sure Nick wasn't dancing it with a ghost. While Mariah has lyrically taken her shots at him, Nick has come forward and spoken highly of her when the media was labeling her as an unstable mother and a controlling bitch. Demonizing Nick as if Mariah was this helpless woman in shackles tied to her bed, being abused and tossed around by this horrible man, is ridiculous. Mariah stopped being Mary Poppins in 1997. Reuben Walton, isn't it ironic that the album (Memoirs) you love so much was much inspired by Nick? She released a wonderful Christmas album, and she had dem babies. I'm pretty sure Mariah doesn't regret one moment of it.

Philipp, I think that song is utter garbage, plain and simple. What a waste of time going in the studio for that. Mariah was evidently as high as a kite, so embarrassing. I never heard that song, and I wish I never had.

Baby / Walter (47,876)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Baby, I didn't actually get that far in the interview the first time, but when I revisited it I was out of words. Neither Walter nor his co-hosts knew that "Emblazoned" was an actual word. No wonder why Mariah made that comment on Watch What Happens Live about "AIWFCIY". Walter is thirsty, but Mariah's not giving him anything to drink. I think it is time for him to move one, because I'm pretty sure Mariah won't work with him again, she doesn't need him.

Jesse / Hero (47,865)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Hi Jesse. You're not new to visiting MCArchives, but since that was your first post, I wanted to say welcome aboard. As for the "Hero" YouTube video you posted, I personally think that Mariah didn't lipsync any part of it, she was actually singing live. Whenever Mariah is about to lipsync to the difficult parts of her songs, she usually does one or a combination of the following: a) Spins around as if she were in a beauty pageant, b) Covers her face with her left arm making it seem as if she were feeling the spirit or waving to the audience, and c) Face the musicians giving her back to the audience momentarily. She doesn't do any of those things when she's confidently singing live.

I consider this to be the best rendition of "I'll Be There" Mariah's ever sung. Mariah and Wanya is pure magic. Wanya brought so much soul to it that I forgot about Trey's high notes, no pun intented. I replaced the Unplugged version with an mp3 of this one.
