Re: E=MC2 vs. Memoirs (56,565) (56,576)
by Luke from United Kingdom

E=MC2 is incredible to me. It's rare I listen to almost every song on an album but with that one I do. I love it all and it sounds so fresh and modern, even now. It's always amazed me that a lot of Mariah's songs sound so timeless. With many songs and albums from years ago you can usually place what year/time frame they were made. However, Mariah's is so different. Excluding the 90's, when she started making music she was more passionate about it started to become very original and modern. I honestly think she could release E=MC2 now and it would still be a huge hit because it sounds so fresh. Like Andrew said she truely is a genius.

Re: "Skinny sells" (56,518) (56,519)

I'm not saying it doesn't help. However, that alone won't make her popular. It's also obvious she gets a lot more confident when she's slimmer, both musically and on stage. The music industry is harsh against anyone who's a bit bigger, and I'm sure she knows that. But what would be the point working tirelessly to get a fab body right now when she's not going to be on stage promoting anything? People on here should just learn to be happy for her. I could be wrong but it wouldn't seem right to bring out an album now so I'd rather her eat fancy food, be romanced and get inspired and then bring a killer album after Christmas at some point. Then start getting into shape. She said in an interview that she wants to lose it anyway so it's not like she's not aware of it lol.

"Skinny sells" (56,507)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous haha. A hot body, perfect boobs, tight ass and toned muscles isn't going to put her at the top of the charts. Look at artists like Meghan Trainor or Adele. Neither of them are super slim or what is considered "the ideal body". They are just a healthy weight and body size and they own it. If the music is good and connects with people, it will sell. Also, she's not even big. She actually just looks healthy to me. You know, someone who is enjoying their life. She looks amazing when she's not wearing relaxing clothes, I highly doubt a lot of you look like sensational models when you're in comfortable attire. When she was in France she looked great. We all want her to do well but I really don't understand why people go on about her weight like she can hop into a time machine. She's a busy woman and maybe losing weight isn't at the top of her list at the minute, she had a pretty shit year last year so let her enjoy her self for a while. I doubt she's going to release an album this year to promote, so if I was her I'd pig out as much as I could before I did release one.

Didn't Julie sue him when it happened? Mistakes happen I guess but if you think about it, he would know better than most about those type of issues. He could tell Mariah he's been there and there are very real risks with the surgery. Personally, I hope she doesn't do it. Her voice seems to go through phases where she can belt well one minute and whistle amazing the next. She's mentioned that in interviews, plus with 25 years practice she knows her way around dem chords.

Re: Interaction with the kids (56,352) (56,353)
by Luke from United Kingdom

She's probably being cautious. Their relationship might be going good now but she doesn't know what will happen. I don't think it's a good idea to let kids get close to someone with the possibility of them leaving and it not working out. They already have parents that have seperated so it wouldn't do them any good if they started growing affectionate towards him only for him to leave. I've read that Mariah has known him for some time but it's only recently they've been dating. So it's probably still early days, especially with their lifestyle I doubt they get the same freedom to see each other compared to people who aren't famous.

Depressing drama (56,270)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I think if Mariah ever read this board she'd laugh her ass off. The amount of dramatic, not-it-all-psychic Sally's is ridiculous. It's depressing with some many acting like Mariah is some uncontrollable tyrant, think back a year and everything has changed. So she released a song that didn't please your high standard needs. Go listen to MIAM. I would rather have them put out a re-release of MC on the shelves at Christmas for people to think "ooh I remember that album, I'll buy it for this person" instead of releasing a quality album that'll be ignored. These two re-releases will have people remember her in a good way. I remember looking for MIAM on the shelves here and it was knowhere to be seen, but now I've seen #1 To Infinity everywhere. It's these small things that make a difference. Some if you should really try looking on the bright side of life. I think she knows better than anyone with what sounds good, I also think she's not going to waste good music like that on people who aren't going to give a shit.

by Luke from United Kingdom

I don't think clothes alone would turn people away, I do think some of the ideas she has maybe arn't understood by other people. In terms of more mature music was MIAM not mature? Excluding thirsty, Money and YDKWTD the majority of that album was very mature. Of course she's done better songs than Infinity and its remix but would you release your best material after an awful year when it would most likely go down the drain and be ignored? I have no doubt she will pull out all stops when she's ready but I think she's just chilling this year, not worrying about her appearance, not letting songs she's proud of being shat on and getting back in the swing of things. After 2014 and her arm I'd imagine she's just working at a slower pace and hopefully figuring everything out. It's all well and good us wanting her to be fit, slim, vocally pristine and almost perfect but she's not a robot. Perhaps she's tired of the high expectations?

I'm guessing you would like to see her perform in a Burka? This is Mariah we're talking about, she is always going to show cleavage. I'm so sick of this "When you turn 40 you have to stop wearing what you want, show no skin and please anyone who doesn't like to see a woman over 40 show some flesh" attitude. I know it's cliché but age really is just a number. People should be allowed to wear whatever the hell they want regardless of what their age is. I think she looked amazing.

That makes sense both the production of elasticity and stopping the alcohol. If only there was a way for her to get the same effects all the time without having to get pregnant haha and Baby, I love her more gospel songs even the Christmas ones. It is true her music impacts so many people around the world, she isn't given enough credit.

Pregnant vocals (56,095)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I was just watching some old Chistmas videos of Mariah singing while she was pregnant and her voice sounds so different. It's like there is so much clarity and as if she's finding it easy to sing and not really having to try to sound good, like in this performance especially at the end where she goes from whispery falsetto to full on belting with easy vibrato. What went on during this time? I've heard prenancy can effect you in different ways but was she actually doing anything differently back then?

Re: Rolling Stone/Telegraph "greatest" lists (56,010) (56,012)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I never take anything in magazines, news sites/papers or even sites like Billboard very serious anymore. Gone are the days where talent was the main highlight in a career in that industry. Put a little botox in your lips, dye your hair black, insert some implants in your ass, five layers of makeup and be prepared for effortless fame and to be on the cover of Vogue and Rolling Stones. Like the quote Mariah used in Meteorite "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes." It's true and disgraceful really. Although people like Adele are truely talented, people like her are a minority in that business. I think the reason Mariah is put down so much is because she has always followed her heart and stayed true to herself in that business, when others let the big power people tell them what to do and beat them down. She has stood strong and I believe a lot of the power wolves don't like it. From what I've seen in a lot of documentaries it seems that unless you do what you're told, you can expect have things made harder for you.

Re: Stolen ideas (55,918) (55,926)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I really want to know who it is lol. I wonder if she'll name and shame them at any point. People have said Beyonce but if that's the case she wouldn't have said she "loves Beyonce" in an interview last year a little before she released MIAM. Assuming it's that album since she changed the release, made new songs and title. I wondered if it might have been Jay Z taking her ideas and pitching them to Beyonce. Also, Mariah is quite friendly with Solange who often praises her on Twitter and we all know about the lift fiasco between her and Jay Z lol. It's all speculation obviously but Jay Z has seen Mariah work up close on two albums, he knows her talent and creativity

Game of War (55,916)
by Luke from United Kingdom

I was think it would be cool if they done a Christmas themed Game of War ad. Mariah is probably best known at that time of year and there would be nothing more festive than a medieval Christmas with jolly Mariah music, mead and whistles all the way.

I don't think so either, she could have gone down a much darker path but she hasn't. I'm sure they'll probably make a film of her but let's just pray it's not a Lifetime film haha. I get the impression she's happier now with the freedom of being able to make mistakes, compared to in the 90's when it was like she was moulded to be perfect. Also, I had had a few glasses of vino when I posted my previous post. It wasn't directed to anyone, I just get sassy when I've had some drink lol.

Remix (55,826)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |
|
|
I actually don't mind it, the beat seems a lot more catchier than the original. The only thing I don't like is that it's like Mariah takes a back seat. I wish she had put in the line "Is it lack of ice got you so cold?" Oh well, hopefully mixing with different people like Justin will open her up to a new audience which is what it looks like they may be doing. I like that she's exploring different things, even if some might not be that successful. That's what a real artist should do. I would rather her try a new sound on Infinity and it not work instead of trying it on a new song and it goes down the drain. She could easily churn out Vision Of Love / We Belong Together type songs that we're used to and love but that isn't going to get her anywhere. To evolve she has to take a risk and try different sounds and work with different people. The thing is, unless she collaborates first I doubt any singles of her alone she would chart in anyway because not enough people know her or have forgotten her. They need to expose her more and think that's what this might be all about.

High school reunion (55,790)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |

Even though I agree her comments seemed very diva-esque, I think she is being sarcastic in response to TMZ's stupid questions. Their questions seem to be either completely random or overly personal. Even Stella said in on of the videos "finally a normal question" when they asked Mariah about her working on a song. Remember guys, don't take her seriously. It might seem she's being snobbish but I think she was probably just tired of the stupid questions and not taking herself seriously. I could be wrong though lol.

Christmas movie (55,570)
by Luke from United Kingdom
| |

|
"Hallmark Channel's Mariah Carey's Christmas Project, which will start shooting in October and screen in December." So I'm guessing it's going to be a short movie. Lol correct me if I'm wrong, I've not seen many Hallmark movies but don't most films take atleast a year to create and finalise? How are they going to do it in 2 months when they struggled to finish and get out a 3 minute video for a song that ended up being a month late? Plus with planning/rehearsing the Beacon shows and recording new music it's going to be a squeeze. I hope she doesn't just throw ideas to people like Brett and they're just saying "Yeah ok, we can do that and finish it in time."

I'd definitely pick Fly Like A Bird. Probably gonna sound cheesy but when I was little I used to watch birds from my bedroom window and wished I could become one so I could fly away and explore the world. That paired with the spiritual side of the song it was like it was written for my life haha. It's been my go to song ever since when "life's got me oh so low".

Live vs studio (55,287)
by Luke from United Kingdom

No problem, Andrew. It goes well in the song, I've always been amazed at how she does that. I think it goes well with the cheerful vibe of Fantasy. There is a part in We Belong Together live where she sings the part "when times get rough" but she sings the "rough" part with a sort of run. She does it in the BET performance. It's subtle but I always fell that it gave it more emotion.

Andrew, I had an idea of what you were talking about because I thought I'd heard her do it too. Do you mean this one? I could be wrong but she does a random "On and on and on" part in this performance. Around 2:46.
