You're right. Even I can't deny it anymore. And my apology was to you as well. I just don't want to accept that this woman I've admired for so long seems to have given up. Why should I continue to defend and disillusion myself when the person I adore doesn't seem to care. At this point, I respectfully repeat what I said a few posts down, "Thanks for the memories." I do wonder what 20 year old Mariah would make of this? Maybe if those who claim to love her sat her down and made her watch what she was she'd be spurred into action. Mariah, I love you, please, rediscover yourself and reclaim who you are. You're Mariah Carey, and while "that doesn't mean a thing to me", it means a lot to myself, a fan for life.

Apologies (38,429)
by Anthony Early from Wales
| |
|

I feel I owe an apology to Stephen et al who I had a bit of a thing with earlier in the year when defending Mariah. After the, to be quite frank, horrendous handling of one of her best songs in years (which is actually very very popular) I wonder how much more I can defend her. The remix debaccle is embarassing. Right now in the UK, MC has consistently been around the 20-15 mark on iTunes. This is huge for her. One brilliant performance of that song here on a TV show could propel her into the top ten. And don't get me started on how I feel the song could do in the US if she oh I don't know, gave a damn? I can't lie to myself anymore, I fear the best may be behind her in terms of her career. At this point I feel like saying "Thanks for the memories."

The remix (38,409)

After reading all your reactions, I'm not even going to try and listen to this. I always get mad when MC ruins an awesome song with an out of place rapper. It proves nothing and nobody buys it. I remember hearing the "remix" of I'll Be Loving You Long Time. Amazing song ruined by a guest rapper. Disappointing to say the least.

I agree (38,246)

I agree with everybody who says she should be making more appearances. I can't believe how strong the song is doing in the UK, a territory usually allergic to anything Mariah and it's doing it with no promo here. What a frustrating set of events.

Best ballad (38,112)

Music Box, what a brilliant choice. As is Everything Fades Away. I also love All I Ever Wanted, I Am Free, Butterfly, Outside and Lead the Way. Through the Rain holds a place in my heart as being the song that really made me stand up and take notice of MC. I first heard it on SM:TV live, a Saturday morning kids TV show in the UK when I was 13.

A proud fool (37,991)
by Anthony Early from Wales

I truly believe Mariah sang live on AI and to those who have expressed disbelief and annoyance at those few who "dare" to criticise Mariah I say: good for you. It's popular these days to be a critic, a hyper analyst and a nay-sayer and to those who don't board the popularist train, I applaud you. As someone else said, Whitney, as talented as she was, broke down vocally before she died, but Mariah, a healthy and active idol of 23 years, is not standing down and is continuing to defy those who doubt her. It's a victory for the true fans, and anyone else, I'll see you in 2102. God bless.

I enjoy the folks who implore that those who don't express their unhappiness at Mariah enough as worshippers. Brilliant. I have often times criticised her and the direction(s) she is taking; this time I am simply standing up for what I believe to be injustice. Anyway, good job Mariah, I don't and never have agreed with everything you do, but from what I've heard very recently, you are still worthy of my adoration as the best vocalist and one of the most incredible artists ever. Please don't inhale poisonous breaths; constructive and observational criticism considered, you are the one that I love, now and always, as an artist. On a personal note, to others, I am passionate about the things that I love, and passion, in my opinion, makes the world go round. Congrats to Mariah on an illustrious, difficult yet rewarding well deserved 23 years. I ain't going nowhere.

As juvenile, please don't. Please get down off your high horse and don't tell me how to spend my time. I'm irritated by you and wanted to express that. I have now. No, I don't want a row. And don't mistake raising an objection to you as juvenile. Finally, now I know where you stand, I'll know to pass over your posts.

I'm fed up of you saying she can't sing like it's now fact. It isn't. It's your opinion. And your constant negativity, which is coming close to the mark as nastiness, is draining. I agree with Samuel. I never argue on the net, but this board over the past week has infuriated me to the point where I too feel the need to speak out. Mariah has done some of her most incredible live performances well after 1997 (in my opinion). And the fact you have to mention 1997 Stephen speaks volumes. I don't think you're a fan of her voice anymore. I'm not debating whether you're a fan or not, because I don't know and frankly I don't think she needs "fans" like you, but constant criticism and the 1997 thing really suggests you're no longer a fan of her voice now. I apologise if I come across as annoyed, but I genuinely really am.

I thought the performance was gorgeous. I can't for the life of me appreciate "opinions" on this board when they seem like trash. Seriously. I have been embarassed myself of some of her previous live performances, but these past few years I feel and hear that she still has the voice I fell in love with. Her voice is shot? What the hell? Am I even on a fan board anymore? Am I even living in reality? Mariah, you're on fire, and they can't take that away.

Disgusted (37,915)
by Anthony Early from Wales

That's how I feel with a lot of comments here. In my opinion Mariah sang amazing. And I'm not a fairweather friend, I'm a huge fan of over 12 years and I've seen her many incredible live performances. I've actually seen her live in concert. It was amazing. And for me, the Idol show was brilliant. If you have watched these performances as much as me, you can tell when she lipped. I'm confident she didn't. Can I please congratulate her on a bloody brilliant show and her new song. Call this fan blind if you want, but that was beautiful.

That guitar riff (37,733)
by Anthony Early from Wales

Is immaculate. I love the whole summer vibe it's got going on. It's special. The song is addictive and I think the short play time leaves me wanting more which warrants a repeat. The only problem I have is that upon release of an incredible song by my idol, my other half and I are sitting precariously on the rocks. I wish nothing more than this to be our song but at the moment it hurts to listen to because of the irony. I hope I eventually have happy menories of such a brilliant song.

Mariah Carey my idol (37,464)
by Anthony Early from Wales
| |
|
|
This woman is my idol, because I believe that above all else, over-coming obstacle over obstacle she is the greatest female vocalist to ever grace Earth with their talent and I am so proud to be a Mariah Carey fan. Everything she does goes above and beyond and through the many successes and (relative) failures she has not strayed from being true to herself. And may I add her true fans. Andrew, the only reason I consider addressing your vile comments is to tell you how wrong you are and how vulgar your presumptions. Mariah, my idol, never change. Many have tried to force you and all have failed. Cliche but true - often imitated, never duplicated. Keep shining. Love to my MCA family. Lamb for twelve years and untill I breathe my last I shall remain.

Foolish (37,009)
by Anthony Early from Wales
| |

I feel like such a right fool, because as much as I love Mariah and always will, she always makes me grin like a fool whenever I see her. My boyfriend is mesmerised by me being mesmerised by her whenever she is on tv or the radio. And I must admit something. Every time I see her give an amazing performance on YouTube, I feel pride. Such immense pride. I know Mariah is not my mother or my sister or my best friend, but she feels part of me like a family member. Like part of my life story. And I cry when she is down and rejoice when she is up. I say this because I swell with pride each time I see the Jimmy Fallon performance, amongst many others. How must she feel being only one of a handful of living legends? So yes I feel a fool. But a happy fool who made he right choice. I love you Mariah and I love you all my friends. Happy New Year.

I've been reading random reviews on Google and it seems like the media are loving this AIWFCIY performance. The best Christmas present is to see Mariah receive the rave reviews she deserves. I gotta say a big thank you to Jimmy Fallon also. Everyone in my household loves the performance and a few of my friends even downloaded the song after seeing this. Mariah's talent and incredible personality are deserving of recognition. I'm so happy.

I too miss those performances, however I wasn't referring to the fans on this website, I was referring to the wider world who don't watch every performance like we do, see one less than stellar performance and gleefully rub their hands together and exclaim "She doesn't got it no more." I have been coming to this site since 2002, so I'm well enough equipped by now to know which people would be bashing her and I wouldn't for one moment suggest it was you guys.

Umm - wow?! That's all I can say. All this crap about Mariah losing the voice, see this performance is all I need to say. Incredible. May be my favourite live performance of this song ever. Mariah has done it again. Still amazes after 22 years in the game.
