Thank you Martin for that great article. It expressed in good details the reasons to why this underrated and certainly elusive album wasn't showcased in good lighting. Side note, call me dumb or maybe just computer illiterate, I never realized that in certain articles, different colored texts led to other articles lol. I felt so stupid in discovering that today. I guess we do learn something new each day haha. Anyways, in discovering those links, I read the other great articles about Mariah. It's nice to read good praises about her back to back on a specific website. Very tasteful and all about the music. Thank you again for that. For some reason, now I can't get the Triumphant dance remix out of my head. It was one of my favorites. I still think that remix should have been included in MIAMTEC.

Haha so true. I knew that was the title but I wanted to play a little with it, since I couldn't come up with a song. I almost named Ken-Le for K. Ever heard of that song?

Name that song (62,233)

Thought it would be fun to do something different, giving us all a chance to interact with each other in a positive way. No pressure, just enjoy. For those who'd like to join in, good luck to you. Hope it sparks someone's interest and maybe they can come up with the next one. Here it is: - This song was not a #1 on the charts. - Its proceeds went to the Heroes Fund. - Could have been part of the rainbow. - Was written alongside 2 other songwriters, whom both have also worked with Whitney Houston. - This song is considered in rare form, compared to her other songs. - Certain lyrics in the song contain "end of time". - Was recorded in between breakdowns. - Has 10 letters.

I'm smiling right now at all these comments. Loving these ideas and suggestions. AIWFCIY definitely needs to be #1 already. Long Ago was actually my favorite song off that album, at that time. Something about Faded is addictive. I couldn't stop replaying it when I first got the album. Mimi L, she looks amazing in those pics. Bigmacfan, thanks for the update on what year it was. I must have fallen asleep during the 90's. Had a glitter OD. Don't know what this board would do without you. I guess even the human body needs germs to survive. Hey, I know I preach about respect, love and all the kumba-ya moments, but respect is earned, and some people don't know how to hustle for it. Words of advice, "Don't swallow your own venom. You might get a realer taste of what you spew." God bless everyone.

Thanks RJJ12. I never noticed that. I read that "Candle in the Wind 1997" is also the 2nd best selling song in history. The reason I was asking my original question was because I realized that with Prince's passing, a lot of his previous songs re-charted after so long and some even made it to Top 40 and Top 10. I also noticed songs that usually re-enter the charts are due to the artist's death or tribute/charity songs. I'm trying to find a song that was just a regular single. I even thought, for example, what if for a whole week, an old Mariah single that never reached #1, was to be streamed, bought through online media markets, or even requested on radios for air time. Would it be possible for that song to re-chart and maybe reach #1? Would that count as another #1 song for her? If this is possible, she'd set a record for first artist to re-chart a previous original single (not discrediting "Candle in the Wind", it did reach #1 but it was re-recorded and re-written, so not an original) to make it at #1. We as fans/lambs should start a new trend by voting on her previous songs and choose one to stream or buy on each month. I wonder if that would work? I think I may have just too much time on my hands coming up with this random stuff lol. Btw, releasing "Slipping Away" would be an amazing choice. I believe it was Andrew or maybe someone else mentioned in a previous post that Mariah should hire certain fans to promote her new music. That's a genius idea. I mean, if she's not able to release new music at the moment, why couldn't we just promote her old stuff that we know deserved more attention. Even those songs that we wished had become singles. Do I hear "Underneath the Stars", anyone?

Re-entering the charts? (62,176)
by Haiji Toro from USA, SOUTH FLORIDA

I'm curious about this. I tried researching it, but nothing comes up. Has anyone in music history ever released a single, wether it was a hit or not, and re-entering years later to make it to #1? I've heard of artists re-entering the charts but never reaching top spot. Does anyone know anything about this topic?

Thank you Jeff for the reply. I'm happy you enjoyed my post. It came from the heart. I agree, I'd never count her out. I'd love for achievements to continue, more #1 hits, breaking more records and more great music. I'm so ready for new music. As expected, but completely understood, some people will only think of her as whatever they see her portraying herself as. I think it's a shame but it's the reality. Those that actually take time out and research her story in depth, would have a better understanding of her personality. That goes with any celebrity, any human, at that. Those that know her story may perceive her as that one close friend that you love so much, but can get annoying at times. Simply call it a night because she's too much right now, but tomorrow is a new day, back to calling her to hang out. As to those that would only catch a quick tv/YouTube interview, that "dah'lin I'm famished" line alone, would be enough to label her as this over the top, flown over the cookoo's nest, personality disordered diva. I've heard people say "I like her music, I just can't stand her." I'm thinking, wow you know her? At least they love her music. I'm sure when she goes into making her albums, her main purpose is for the music. That's all that should matter. When we go out to buy a product, we're paying for whatever that product can provide us with. I'm not really buying it because I enjoy Mr. Walmart's personality. He just has some good s***. At a low price lol.

Mara, thank you for your reply, I appreciate that you took the time out to read my post. (Thank you to everyone that read it as well.) I definitely get what you mean by a certain song or lyric that takes you back into time. It's amazing how most of could probably write our own life stories simply linking music to it. I did follow her music from the beginning. I remember being 8 years old when I heard Vision Of Love on the radio. It was immediately about the voice that I fell in love. By this time, my mother had already introduced music to me in many forms and genres, but never heard anything like her. I was that kid that would rather stay in to listen to music than go out to play. I was the strange one in the family lol it was odd to them that a kid around that age would always talk about music so passionately, discussing the greats of that time. Still the greats of this time. It wasn't until 1997's Butterfly, specifically the song Outside, that touched my soul like no other song ever did. I only knew about Mariah Carey the singer up until then. I would look for books or magazine articles that discussed her life story. I couldn't believe that this woman, this stranger to me, someone I only knew through a radio or TV screen, somehow understood how I felt growing up. It was like she spoke to me through her songs. But anyways, I can go on and on about it lol.

This was such a hard choice. I had to go through some extensive process of elimination. Here it is: Love Takes Time - My all time favorite Mariah song. Anytime You Need A Friend (C&C Club Version) - Gotta have a reason to dance away the hours. All I Want For Christmas (Is You) - In case I'm still stranded during the holidays, I'm gonna need a festive song. Outside - If this song helped me get through racism, homosexuality, bullying and family strife, then it'll get me through anything. We Belong Together - This song came out during a very transitional stage in my life and then resurfaced into my life at a happier moment. Great memories. Important song for me. Her music is definitely the soundtrack to my life. In order for me to remember certain years in my past, I normally link her album to that year to remember. But that's actually the case with all music.

Cause and effect (62,111)
by Haiji Toro from USA, SOUTH FLORIDA

In my observation with Mariah's life and career, I feel that the events and personal situations that took place from the beginning of her career could be the reason to the decisions and actions that led to where she's at mentally and emotionally in this present day. Her albums somewhat reflect those stages. Of course, her first album, to me, will be a classic. This was like her first child. The album that represents her planned, hard work. Except, she wasn't able to raise it on her own. Not that it was a bad thing for her career, seeing how well that album did. Unfortunately for her, she really didn't have control of anything pertaining to the business side, especially at those times. Which is what many of us go through at the beginning of our careers. We sometimes are put in a place where we have to sacrifice certain things in life to get good results. I feel that the Mariah we saw between Daydream and Butterfly years, was who she truly was at heart, musically driven, hard working, humble, but still naive to the business side. She wanted to be free to be herself but knew a lot was at stake, so she started making certain choices that were almost contradictory to her beliefs. It's like ying and yang, cause and effect. Sacrifice of image and personality, equaled more money and many hits, more fame. Butterfly was the birth of a woman that, at the time, wanted to be free but was still controlled to an extent, made to feel that with just her talent, she couldn't do it alone. Which I think is why her image became what it was. Still insecure, but resentful. So instead of just wanting to feel sexy and have full control, she subconsciously created a whole new persona. The sexier she dressed, the more she pissed the right people off, the more attention she got. Not realizing the person she became. Rainbow, to me, was basically her 2 week notice. At this point, All that Glitters was all that was on her mind. She needed to produce an album to get out of contract. I'm sure she worked hard on it, but I don't think she intended her best work and creativity to go into that specific album, hence the fillers, in my opinion. So at this point, having the world at her hands, dropping more hits, breaking more records, it didn't stop there. Her freedom was around the corner. We all get a bit ahead of ourselves when we feel invincible. Sometimes we let it get to our head and we forget what got us there. She worked so hard for what she thought was coming, but all the lights, glamour and glitter replaced the sweat, tears and sleep. And finally came Glitter. The hard work shows in the music and movie as well. I don't care what anyone says, you give me a few million to work on music and a movie, sacrificing my sleep and energy, just to make my dreams come true, and to prove the world I can do it on my own, I wouldn't turn that down. But even God rested on the 7th day. Not to come off offensive, but I feel that sometimes no matter where we are in life, and what we think is right for us, God will always remind us to humble ourselves and not take life for granted. Even if it means taking it all away, that light will shine on us. So now, finally resting, a clearer sense of reality, her humbleness kicks in. It reflects on Charmbracelet. Mentally and emotionally, that was her comeback. It was her second chance at once again proving herself in this industry. Relevancy and longevity was her focus at this point. In order to achieve that, and now having creative control, yet staying humble, she became smarter in the business. Music was her life. Hip hop was her drive. The streets took her in, finally accepting her roots. What corporate America and the suits disapproved of her musically, the streets embraced. Now working with new producers and having some freedom, it was time for her musical comeback. The Emancipation of Mimi. We saw a little more secure, creative and mature woman. It's like everything was falling into place. All she needed now to feel complete was a man who loved her, respected her views, and let her be who she wanted to be. Remember, fame, love and happiness all come with a price. To keep her fame going, the pressure for more hits was present. Similar to her album Emotions, E=MC2 was a rushed production. Almost like both were collections of left over tracks. No harm was done on either, giving both produced record breaking singles. The first being the first solo act to have 5 consecutive singles reach #1 and the latter breaking Elvis Presley's previous record, making her the only living act, only woman at that, to reach such fame. It couldn't get any better for her, but love finally showed up. She found someone that made her feel beautiful and young. We sometimes pray so much for true love and happiness, that when we get it, we no longer remember how we got it. Her new love is all she saw. She deserved to be happy. Unfortunately, the yang must play a part in that ying. The sacrifice of music and her humbleness took into effect. She had the fame she worked so hard for and the love she yearned for so long, she nothing else really mattered at this point. Now her goal was building a family. In order to start a new life, you must let go of your past. Her closure to that life was revealed in Memoirs. Although the actual title of that album should have been The Art of Letting Go. Memoirs was, in my opinion, spring cleaning. A transitional album. Like someone stated before, it sounded like one long song. I agree that production should have been broadened and diverse, yet cohesive, but at this point in her life and career, I think she had every right to make those decisions. Think about it, she went from having this dream so young, putting work to achieve it. Not realizing that in this industry, they all need a niche. What she saw as a blessing and outlet, the industry used as their money machine. We all know machines don't last forever. They either evolve as a product, get refined to extend their capabilities, or just become another antique item in the museum of life. Her machine has had its ware and tares, but continues to amazingly get refined. Wether we hear that sound live or not, it's her sound. Expecting her voice to be the same, is as expecting a child not to grow. Her present voice is the evolution of her machine. I'd rather hear that, then a soundless music box on display. Now, a new era, new pressures in music and business. That longevity she wants. Balancing a marriage and family. Life behind the scenes of perceptions of what we think we know. I'm sure it's too much to deal with. I believe that MIAMTEC was intended to be another shot to reclaim her position. Maybe deep down inside, like many of us fans/lambs, we wanted that best song of this decade and another 2 or 3 number 1 hits for her, but life happens and we learn to acceppt. Maybe this new marriage, management and label, is her Lemonade. What might seem bitter to us, might just be the right taste for others. I say just enjoy the drink "whilst" you can and if you don't like how it tastes, simply find another one. I'm sure I'll read about how long this story was, and maybe even get negative comments, maybe won't even get anything, and I'm OK with either case. I enjoyed writing this. Have an amazing day and God Bless.

Great choices (62,081)
by Haiji Toro from USA, SOUTH FLORIDA

I appreciate the feedback (Giovanni, George, MC1989 and Sheila). Those were all great songs. MC1989, why'd you leave out a song for Rainbow? I honestly never payed attention to To Be Around You, now I have to listen to it. I wonder what I missed about it. Meteorite is definitely a good song. I do wish that she had experimented on other songs off MIAMTEC like she did on Meteorite. Here's my list: Mariah Carey: Vanashing Emotions: Till The End of Time Music Box: Now That I Know Merry Christmas: Miss You Most (At Christmas Time) Daydream: Long Ago Butterfly: Babydoll Rainbow: After Tonight Glitter: Want You Charmbracelet: Subtle Invitation The Emancipation of Mimi: Joy Ride E=MC2: For the Record MOAIA: Standing O MIAMTEC: Faded *Just to clarify, these are not favorites that I chose, although some are. This list is only based on my opinion of what songs I feel would become hits (maybe Top 40) if were to be released as current singles. Hope you like the list.

What if you had the power to choose one non-single track off every album? Beginning with her debut and ending with Memoirs, and release it as a single. Assuming that it will be a hit and not sound outdated. What songs would you choose?

Remixes: ReVisioned (62,056)
by Haiji Toro from USA, SOUTH FLORIDA

I'm curious about a release like this one. How do you guys feel about a continuation to her Remixes album released by 2020 (only 4 years from now)? Should she even bother? I imagine it to be a double disc as well. The first disc would start where she left off, including b-sides and unreleased music, and the second would have certain past songs reworked with a slight change in sound and new vocals (similar to her newest live versions). I think the new vocals should match her current vocal ability and give each song new life to them. Just a thought. What do you guys think?

"Opinions are like a*******, everybody has one" (62,030)
by Haiji Toro from USA, SOUTH FLORIDA
| |
|
|
I rarely post anything on this site, I just like to read the articles for any new updates regarding Mariah's music. I also enjoy this messageboard on occasions. I've been a fan/lamb since her debut and a fan of MCA since her Butterfly days. It's great to see so many people of different cultures, backgrounds, races, genders and personalities share a somewhat similar love or passion as I do. Yet, as if I'm still stuggling with feeling on the "outside", now just constantly defending an amazing singer. I choose to respect other's opinions and beliefs, but like I see with religion and everything else in life, no need to push it unto others, I have my own. We all view her in our own ways, but it doesn't change that we really "don't know her" personally and the reasons to why she is and does as she pleases. At the end of the day, isn't the main reason we love her is her music? I used to be so "obsessed" (sorry, can't help it), that I wouldn't listen to radio when she'd release new music, unless it was her song, just so no one else had a chance at #1, but those days are long gone. Then I grew up and had my own life to obsess over. So the moral of this story is, feel free to state your own opinion, as to also respect others with their own. Even if they're being negative. It's easier to ignore and move along, then to entertain it and ware out your thumbs (as I'm doing with this long and winded post). Don't forget, we also don't personally know each other, how can you put emotion to words, without knowing the personality behind it? Last but not least, who cares what she wants to do with her life and how she portrays herself? Her music is what brought us here. Mariah as a person doesn't define me nor it pays my bills. It's her music that gives me what I want, what my ears crave. C'mon MC. Replenish these ears of mine. Good day to all. God bless.
