Re: Rihanna going platinum (59,427) (59,434)

If you read this article, then you will see that Samsung (who she signed a deal with) bought 1 million copies and gave it away as free downloads. So it's easy to go platinum if you have the support of a big corporation buying a million copies and giving it away as free downloads.

One Sweet Day was such a huge hit without YouTube, iTunes or any social media. Today, all those who try to break Mariah's record have the luxury of the Internet and modern marketing mechanisms yet they cannot come close to Mariah. Think about this, for someone to have more number 1 hits than Mariah, then that person needs to be in a calibre higher than Elvis because he has 17. Only Mariah was worthy of breaking Elvis' record and I am sure the "powers that be" in the industry will not allow Rihanna to get more number 1s than Elvis. Mariah is far beyond anyone and while those who have huge hits now seem to be unstoppable, they will not be able to keep up being world famous after their 15 minutes of world fame is over.

I agree. It is also not one of my favourites but the song is timeless and the vocals are heavanly. It will take a very huge song to break that record and they don'take songs like that these days. Mariah also has 14 weeks at number 1 for We Belong Together and I knew that Adele would not break Mariah's record as I have previously mentioned on this board.

Whitney puts Wendy in her place (59,014)
by Seth M from South Africa

Wendy makes a living gossiping about other people and she should be ashamed of her self. She does not have the charisma of Ellen or the intelligence and class of Oprah. She comes across as barbaric and disrespectful and that Is why I am so glad that Whitney Houston put her in her place back in the day. You can hear the interview on YouTube ( for those of you who have not yet listened to it). Search for "Whitney Houston puts Wendy Williams in her place" and let me know what you think. In the interview, Wendy Williams admitted that she was addicted to cocain. It explains why her brains are fried.

Disgusting and jealous people (58,988)

It is clear that Mariah has enemies trying to run her down. The person who made this video is disgusting and filthy minded. I get so mad when I see stuff like this. [Webmaster: For obvious reasons I won't post the link to the video.]

As far as I know, I think that she recorded My All, Open Arms and Hero in Spanish. They are all available on YouTube.

Exactly, there are factors that determine chart positions that the public does not know about. You have to be a really strong artist inside to take on certain people in big corporates to fight for your number 1. That is why Mariah succeeded so far in getting the most number 1 hits. She was not afraid to take on certain people in the industry. Another example, both Mariah and Celine started with Sony in 1990. Celine was a follower and not a leader. Mariah took control and became a leader and not follower and pretty much did what she wanted to. Had she been a one dimensional singer what Tommy wanted her to be, then she would not have 18 number 1 hits by now. She had to fight for it and work twice as hard to assume creative control.

Dear Mimi L. I think that you too have misunderstood the point that I was trying to make. You need not sing praises of other singers on a Mariah forum. I have clearly stated my opinion and you fail to understand that and misinterpret it as a fact. If you cannot comprehend that I used the other singers as a point of reference to provide examples then you need to read my posts again until you understand it. You are using emotion and not rational thinking in your statements. I again maintain that Rihanna's 13 number 1 hits is still not a threat to Mariah. I am not revealing my real name or location, but what I can say is that I have inside information as to how a number 1 hit is awarded. It is based on many factors not just the age, sales and airplay only. Knowing this, I am certain that Rihanna won't take over our queen's crown. She may get at least 2 more hits but it becomes very difficult then because of certain factors that are determined by the industry and Billboard. That is why, despite having a good album with MIAM, Mariah was not able to get a number 1 hit. Part of the reason has to do with industry politics and many other factors that ate confidential. Now that Mariah is back with Sony, I am certain that she will get another number 1 hit for reasons that I cannot explain. Employees of Billboard, especially senior management are usually not allowed to show favouitism to any artist or be part of fan clubs so it is difficult to get information from them but trust me, senior management at Billboard knows how the formulae works.

Nobody is knocking down Adele because she has current success. I was just pointing out that lambs need not be concerned about her current success as it is no threat to Mariah. Where is the logic in your statement implying that I feel threatened by Adele? I clearly pointed out that she is no match for Mariah. If you are realistic and look at recent artist trends, you will see that they are hot for a short period of time, they peak and then decline. Some even exit the industry. I did not say that Adele will not last but based on statistics and looking at recent trends, you will see the cycle repeat itself. Katy Perry, Leona Lewis, Ashanti, etc are all examples of this. Katy Perry and Leona are also great songwriters and they have written hit songs during their prime era but they fail to have the longevity and staying power that Mariah has. Based on this trend, it is probable that Adele may experience a similar fate. I am not saying that it will happen for certain, but it is probable. For the record, Rihanna having 13 number 1 hits is no threat to Mariah's 18. I have nothing against Adele and truly respect her catalogue of songs but in my opinion (and this is my opinion as everyone is entitled to) she is a one dimensional singer who the general public will get bored with in time. She lacks the versatility that Mariah has and that is why I am saying that Mariah has set the standard very high with her overall talent.

Dear MiTodoChop. If you read my post and understood it clearly, then you would have understood that I was not implying that Adele was trying to be "the next Mariah Carey". I was merely explaining to the lambs that there is no need for anyone to be concerned about her breaking Mariah's record because Mariah has set a high standard that is difficult to reach. I am well aware of 25 and the success that Adele is currently experiencing and that is good for her. My point is that just like the other singers mentioned in my previous post, she too will be "flavour of the year". It is difficult to have longevity and staying power in the industry and Mariah proved that she has both qualities. In all probability, Adele just like other people who were considered "hot" in the past will also fade away. Look at the record that Leona Lewis broke for the fastest download of her song. People thought that she will be the next best thing but now you hear nothing of her. There is no need to tell me about Adele's current success as we are all well aware of it. In my opinion, she is hot now and gaining great publicity but she won't have the longevity that Mariah has. Even a legend like Celine who was very popular in the 90s was not able to dethrone Mariah. Yes, records are to be broken but nobody is close to 18 number 1 hits.

Oh please, Adele? (58,920)
by Seth M from South Africa

I don't think that we should be concerned about Adele and her 10 weeks reign. She is not on the same level as Mariah and is light years away. Right now, the attention is on her and Hello but I can assure you that it will soon fade away. There were many artists who have come and gone and when they started their careers, they all thought that they were the next Mariah Carey. Remember Ashanti and Tamia? Ashanti even claimed that she will be writing for Mariah in 2001 lol. Now you don't hear anything about them. There was also big hype when Leona Lewis and Alicia Keys came out. People said that they will be the next Mariah, but it is yet to be proven. Leona Lewis emulates Mariah until this day with her butterfly signature on her latest cd cover inlay and working with Walter A. The point I'm trying to make is that there are lot of singers who tried to contend with Mariah but failed to do so. Mariah had longevity and staying power in the industry and others including Adele will not be able to keep up to that. Rihanna also failed to garner a number 1 hit from her last album because the popularity decreases with time. The same for Lady Gaga who has to rely on image rather than vocals to gain publicity. I remember when Katy Perry was peaking in her career, many lambs were worried but I assured them that she too will fizzle out when the hype is over. As much as I respect Adele for getting a number 1 hit with a ballad, I don't think that she will break Mariah's record that is timeless. I do think however that Mariah must realize that she can still hit Number 1 with a big ballad in this day and age that is relatable to the general public and not only to the R&B market. To me, songs like "The Impossible", " Love Story" and " Candy Bling" are not ballads. Having said that, Mariah is still the queen and she has earned the ability to do or sing what she wants to in whatever way she wants to. She has inspired so many singers today and set a high standard in the music industry that not many will be be able to keep up with. So basically, I don't think that we need to worry about Adele.

VIP packages for Sweet Fantasy tour sold out in SA (58,783)
by Seth M from South Africa
| |
|
|
I am from Johannesburg in South Africa and so disappointed. Last week I went online to but tickets for Mariah's show in Johannesburg dated for May 2016 and all the VIP packages are sold out. I then called Computicket and they checked their systems and all the Meet & Greet were sold in all 3 cities. The only available VIP package was a gold ticket that is 5 rows from the stage available in the city of Durban. Out of desperation, I immediately booked 2 tickets and my flight and accommodation to Durban. I am excited but also sad because I did not get the Meet & Greet. I waited for that moment my whole life but thode tickets was sold within minutes of release. It is unfair because I was told most of the Meet & Greet tickets were purchased by corporate companies for their clients. It is unfair to the lambs because we really love MC but will not get a chance to meet her because of the corporates who bought most of the Meet & Greet tickets. I really pray that MC will decide to add another date for SA so I will be the first to get them when announced. Disappointed.
