Re: Dionne Warwick (98,038) (98,066) by Nikki from usa
I think she's right though. Mariah's not dead yet. It's hard to gage what will live on after them. Although, that Christmas anthem is hard to deny.

MC and soccer/football (98,065) by Nikki from usa
I think Triumphant should be a FIFA song. It fits so well. One of her upbeat dance pop versions. It's one of her songs that works so well as an anthem.

Nanny trials (97,984) by Nikki from usa
Isn't this the nanny that lost one of her kids? She and the bodyguard played the blame game and Mariah got rid of both of them. If memory serves, she worked at an agency, and losing one of the clients kids got her fired. I wouldn't pay that either.

Label vs. managment (97,906) by Nikki from usa
There seems to be some confusion over the two. Carey is signed to Roc Nation as a management company only. They manage her products and help to promote her. She found out very early with #1's to Infinity that she wouldn't be getting a lot of support from her label. Also, that's why she was surprised by her label putting out the Mariah Experience for Caution.

Mariah's still with Sony Music. She was originally under Epic, her picture is still there, but was moved to their Legacy label. She's just not a priority artist. Another reason why she needs a separate management team. Also, why we see so many live versions of her singing at home. Her label only owns the masters to the recorded versions of the songs. She owns whatever new thing she does.

Carey signed a 3 album deal. She's only put out 1 new studio album. She still owes 2 more. Releasing old material is just a compilation and doesn't count, but part of the reason she's on Legacy.

Re: Go independent (97,880) (97,905) by Nikki from usa
Not likely. Carey has an annual hit and a huge back catalog. As long as her music videos can still get millions of views, she's profitable. They get 50% of that. They don't really spend money to promote her.

Re: Epic (97,883) (97,904) by Nikki from usa
Love, Epic is a part of Sony. Sony Music is a parent company. They have many little labels under them. It's not uncommon for parent companies to switch artists around.

Re: Today Where I Belong goes for radio adds (97,804) (97,867) by Nikki from usa
I'm pretty sure everyone thinks her last song was with Ariana Grande her annual Christmas anthem. Everyone heard her last year. She has a shot. People seem to like the new track.

Re: MC30 (97,846) (97,866) by Nikki from usa
What do you mean? She rolled out 2020 with a new book, The Rarities, a new Christmas song with J.Hud and Ari, and an Apple Christmas special. I wasn't expecting more. Was she promising to do something else?

Andrew's one trick pony (97,760) by Nikki from usa
Mariah's "eternally 12" has to do with her trauma, not her age. She's been saying this since her 20's. Which is just as long as her "anniversaries" which has to do with combating ageism, not just a singular year.

I hate to break it to you, Andrew, but the music industry's PR has always tried to make their stars as young as conceivable. They are well aware of ageism in the industry. When Eminem came out they passed him off as 25 instead of 27. Nicki Minaj was passed off as 24 at 28. J.Lo was also promoted to be 28 when she was 30. Most of their true ages weren't revealed until they were arrested. Others came out in time and nobody noticed. They just started printing the right age.

Mariah was hired during a time period when women were considered "over" the moment they hit 30. If a woman was still riding a fame wave when that happened than her days were considered "numbered". You can ask Madonna all about that struggle. This is why many singers turned actress. An actress could still have a career in her 30's. They mix and match those careers for longevity.

Re: Epic vs Def Jam for Mariah? (97,754) (97,758) by Nikki from usa
Mariah didn't have a choice to stay at Universal. They didn't offer her another contract. She had a 3 album deal with Epic. She's only released 1 album of new music, so she still has 2 more albums of original music to go. One of the perks of returning to an old label at this stage in her career is the compilations she can release and have control over.

By recording a new version, she can have full rights over it. She would own the masters to this version instead of Universal getting paid for it.

Re: Mariah's "real birthdate" (97,722) (97,732) by Nikki from usa
Allison has been saying she was writing some secrets and tell all book about Mariah for a good chunk of the 90's and early oughts. Claiming, somehow, "Mariah's team" could prevent someone from writing a book is tabloid trash. There's nothing anyone could do to stop someone from writing an autobiography. Allison has no follow through. She's an addict. For the last 4 years she's been saying she's going to write a book about her life as well. It hasn't happened. According to that "Mariah and Me" thing, Alison and Morgan are both arsonists.

Carey's siblings are pathological liars (97,646) by Nikki from usa
At this point, they've both been publicly caught lying. Allison has been up to her eyeballs in heroin for 40 years and is the last person to talk about "truth" and "accuracy". Interestingly enough, she never once mentions her children whom she lost in court to Mariah and Patricia. You know, the people that 'kidnapped' her kids? At least, that's what she told the press at the time. It's strange that this mother wouldn't be the least bit concerned about her kids welfare with all the "abuse" that's going on.

Then, there's Morgan. There's a winner. [...] Clearly, not violent. After claiming Allison was in a hospital in Hawaii on her death bed in desperate need of surgery, she's publicly arrested for prostitution in NY for the second time in 3 months clearly means he's full of crap. Of course, he was able to divert that by claiming satanic BS for more tabloid money. Mariah's such a monster for not giving him control of money for Allison, yet he sold all these stories about her, but didn't give a single penny to Allison. This family is a cauldron of snakes.

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,225) (97,287) by Nikki from usa
Record deals in the US don't pay back advances. That's the artist's money to make the record and there's a no take back rule. Mariah made Sony a billion under Columbia, but that has nothing to do with Epic. Epic hasn't spent that much on Mariah or her promo.

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,231) (97,286) by Nikki from usa
You don't seem to understand how contracts work. As a legacy artist, Mariah would be low priority and her budget would be small. The label keeps everything Mariah would make until the budget is paid back. Hits used to mean money. They don't anymore. Nobody buys anymore. Mariah attaches her music to other projects to make money. Her tours are under contract with Live Nation who gives her a fee for touring that dwarfs her recording contract.

You're also wrong about Triumphant. It was listed as a morsel for the fans after Mariah had to push back her album from signing on to do AI. It was listed as such months before release. It wasn't supposed to go to radio either. Quite the opposite happened. Everyone wanted the song. Hip hop stations demanded it, half time wanted it. Due to demand she made a music video and BET made it #1 for a month. We haven't seen a song with this kind of reaction from the public since "I'll Be There". The remixes were fire, it could've easily been a hit. In fact, if she'd release one of the remixes as the song to FIFA it probably would be. She also released GTFO while stressing from the get go that it wasn't a single and won't be released to radio.

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,236) (97,285) by Nikki from usa
I'm not sure if that's true. Mariah doesn't have anything to prove, true. Her actions don't show that she cares about the charts. She barely promos anything when she releases it. Did you see a single TV performance of A No No? A magazine over? I'm sure chart success would be nice, but I don't think Mariah's holding her breath. She had a Christmas song featuring Ariana yet nobody could even find it to stream that thing to save their life.

Re: Mariah separates with manager Melissa (97,250) (97,283) by Nikki from usa
That's not how it works. Melissa got a good deal and far more lucrative. It makes sense for her to go. Mariah's signed with Roc Nation and Melissa was only appointed to her. Mariah is still under contract. She can't just go.

Re: Mariah Carey's sister sues over tell-all memoir (97,277) (97,282) by Nikki from usa
Prey tell, what evidence would Mariah provide? The same evidence Allison provides for ritual abuse? There is none. Mariah didn't make accusations - she described the trauma she endured and what it did to her. Actual trauma victims who contain what happened to them get a sense of relief from talking about it. It's a part of standing up for yourself and not hiding the truth.

Allison had no problem attacking Mariah for 20 years making money from wild claims without proof. In fact, she's still doing it now with this lawsuit. Why shouldn't Mariah get a say? Different rules for her?

Allison doesn't have a case. She's less than credible with all her issues and history. Mariah covered her bases by writing a memoir vs. an autobiography. She also wrote in the forwards this was her viewpoint as little Mariah and how she felt going through the experiences. This is a memoir and not a lawsuit. No proof is needed to tell others your experiences.

Mariah Unplugged (97,088) by Nikki from usa
I want another live and raw performance. Mariah's a music genius and I love the way she re-invented TGIFY for Vegas. I'd like to hear her voice sing in her full musical swing and rework the songs however she likes. She's been doing great things this past year with medleys. Mariah could make a concert just for YouTube or another streaming service. I know I'm alone here for my love of "You're Mine". Yet, I would live for Mariah in a mermaid outfit with a hologram or CGI of some sort where Mariah's in some kind of realm or mermaid world. Mariah singing some mood music with the mood changing around her for each song. Moonlit gardens. Orange clouds mirrored off water. Silver winter scape. So festive.

Re: Cosmetic surgery (97,075) (97,087) by Nikki from usa
I think you're the one who's come closest to all the facts. I can't say anything about her nose. I've always collected pictures of her. There are times I think she does, but then she'll have other pictures where it looks more normal. With so much contouring these days it can be hard to tell. She's also bigger now, so other features seem smaller too. She has had cool sculpting done. She shows all signs of it. I've noticed she's very adverse to the knife. She'll try to keep things as natural as possible. I don't think she's used botox only because she's never had wrinkles and makes the same faces as she always has. There's nothing new. If she had anything else done it would be done with injections or something less invasive.

This isn't about Mariah. A lot of people, in general, seem to be confused about this. Surgery requires cutting. Injections like Botox isn't "cosmetic surgery". That would be things like a nose job, a butt job, or getting some kind of implants. Liposuction could fall under that umbrella too. Fillers and injections don't. So, when a celebrity says they haven't had "cosmetic surgery" done, that doesn't mean they haven't had anything done, they just didn't undergo the knife. Some may be lying. In some cases, they may not consider it "cosmetic" if it was reconstructive. Mariah may not consider having her stomach flap surgery "cosmetic" since it was done to cure a deformity, for example. This specific example has never come up. Just something I thought I'd share because the general public seems to lump things together and then assume every celeb is lying when they deny it. My friend had a nose job due to a deviated septum. The doctor fixed it, but also made it smaller because that's what he was used to doing when most got the operation done for aesthetic reasons. To this day she gets mad when people say she had "cosmetic" surgery, because that's not why she got it.

Re: Cosmetic surgery (97,083) (97,086) by Nikki from usa
That video. That lady is really bad at her job. The teeth thing she mentions is on Mariah's "bad side". The picture she shows where she says it's no longer there - you can still see it. She shows MC's good side pic vs. bad side pic. Mariah never had that fixed, but it's one of the reasons she won't be photographed from the beauty mark side. The other problem is Mariah talked about the reconstructive surgery she had on her stomach when the twins left her with a stomach flap. She talked about it in the very magazine this woman shows while claiming Mariah didn't. Mariah's a C cup. The only time they look enormous is when she has them smashed to her chest within an inch of their lives. She clearly likes the knockers look these days. But, when she lets them loose they're nowhere near that big. However, it's pointless to speculate because you don't know what kind of "help" is going on beneath. You'd need to see them loose or without anything on at all to see what shape they take and how they sit. In the pictures this woman used, I can see the push up in every single one of them. They're not "far apart" on her chest. I think you're seeing implants where there's just fat.

GTFO (97,085) by Nikki from usa
The song was never released to radio. They even said that from the beginning that it wasn't a single. It was strictly for download and buzz. The label thought it was "too edgy" for a "Mariah Carey" track. If they wanted to release it to radio, they'd have a less explicit version just like all the other songs that have swears in the titles. They repeatedly stated that her first single was With You and would be released October 5.

Re: Ryan and Kelly show, thank you, next (97,028) (97,042) by Nikki from usa
Mariah has been going on tour after tour. She's been doing so since 2015 when she first started her Vegas and Christmas residencies. She went on a world tour in 2016 along with Vegas. She also did a tour with Lionel Richie. Her very last Vegas run was this February and it sold at 96%. That's why they keep giving her more deals.

She dropped "With You" at the AMA's and then went to tour Asia for a month before she came back to promote Caution. Then, off for her Christmas tour. Then, the Caution World Tour before heading back to her Vegas residency and then another Christmas. She signed a touring contract with Live Nation in 2018, so she'll be touring well into the 2020's after covid.

Re: Ryan and Kelly show, thank you, next (97,026) (97,029) by Nikki from usa
Just need to add 2 things. Nobody's making any money in this climate and to be perfectly frank, artists rarely made money when it was hot. They've always made money from touring. Labels treat everything like a loan that needs to be paid back. Until it is artists don't see a cent of their money. Labels spend millions promoting artists, but nobody is selling millions anymore.

Which brings me to: Mariah isn't losing money creating albums. She gets her advance and the label eats the costs. They attach the cost to whatever she makes and keeps it. Now, artists and labels make money from ads on music videos. The label spends little on Mariah because she's a legacy artist, but they do eventually make their money back on music video ads. Artists today primarily make their money through endorsements and advertising. Mariah made $9 million last year for that UK crisp commercial.

Re: Merry Christmas and AIWFC RIAA certifications (96,957) (97,009) by Nikki from usa
Most likely because it's an EP. Those aren't considered to be albums. An Extended Play is too short to be an album and too long to be a single. They typically have 6-8 songs on them. Had she sung a few more songs on it than it would most likely be considered a live album. In which case, you'd see it there.

It might be a good idea for her to do a live album now. It could be streamed. She could play it on Youtube or a variety of other platforms since views and streaming now count toward the RIAA certifications. The die hards can buy and the regular folk can stream free.
