About jaker20 from US: You Will Never Be MC

Re: Will we ever see a new album? (80,404) (80,406) by jaker20 from US
Mariah's path to a successful new album and single is not her voice but the cool club sound, the collabs and midtempo bops. Why can't she write something like Julia Michaels' Issues? She can slay that range of vocals now and its themes transcend age. People complain Mariah's voice isn't up to par now is why she's no longer slaying the charts. But I always believed she's a pop genius and that her voice, as legendary as it is, is only second to that. That's what separates her from Celine and Whitney that sometimes I cringe at the comparison. So I'm more concerned about her losing her cool songwriting sensibilities, that or she's just not inspired to write anymore. Unforgettable with French Montana was a good direction but she didn't even write that one.

NYRE, then Golden Globes (80,272) by jaker20 from US
Could the Oscar be next? Mariah is having a great start for the year.

Ratings is proof she is a draw (80,237) by jaker20 from US
The tv promos leading to the show, and throughout the night it was about Mariah's name. People tuned in for her. So studio's and Mariah's team should take note of this and use that high awareness to come up with something great this year.

Re: Golden Globes next, will she perform? Or Oscars? (80,235) (80,236) by jaker20 from US
Mariah should definitely perform at the Golden Globes because sadly she's not getting that Oscar nom. Her song wasn't on the shortlist released last month. But I don't know if Golden Globes even have singing performances. If they do, she definitely should.

It's cute that she's nervous on VOL (80,218) by jaker20 from US
It shows that she really does care for fans. She really tries. And that's more than I can ask for. Also, it's incredible that 27 years into her career and she's still headlining such a big event. She slayed Hero, once she got comfortable. So proud of her.

MC did great (80,179) by jaker20 from US
I thought VOL was a bit shaky and it looks like it's very cold. But she slayed Hero. And she sang both live. So proud of her.

Shake It Off (80,150) by jaker20 from US
Just awesome bop. MC's music keeps getting better. You miss them for awhile and you listen to them again and they're pop genius.

I agree with Meteorite (80,105) by jaker20 from US
It's a bit easier to sing, it's fun and festive and timely. I'm looking at a production similar to It's Like That BET performance.

I wish she'd drop a single in time for NYE (80,066) by jaker20 from US
That'd be the perfect moment to release a new song.

Re: Take 2 NYE (80,028) (80,029) by jaker20 from US
Can you imagine if MC drops a single on that night and slays the performance? So much publicity she can use to her advantage.

AIWFCIY will be top 10 soon (79,953) by jaker20 from US
It will land between 7 to 9. This will be the highest peak for a song that's been released more than 20 years. And that's just based on the song's legacy. If MC actually had a proper strategy for the song, like live TV or new viral video, I can see the song going above top 5.

Re: Piers Morgan (78,641) (78,643) by jaker20 from US
Mariah should know better as well. She's been on the spotlight longer than Piers. Its not like she's doing a sit in with Oprah, she's doing an interview with Piers looking like an idiot lounging on a couch with a freaking Christmas trees. The fact that she's doing that interview is a setup for ridicule. Why not do that interview with Gerardo Rivera while riding a reindeer yeah that'd be fun. Whatever, it's just another episode in this Mariah train wreck. Always epic fail headlines with her the past few years. Decent career long over.

Re: Is Queen Mariah ready to retire? (78,454) (78,477) by jaker20 from US
She can just produce newcomers or mentor young artists, rappers etc. What happened to that new record label? She also got a yuletide movie. She's got millions, so she should do more of those. She will find new and real inspiration while supporting young artists, and/or making movies. That will spark new ideas for her. I always thought MC is a pop genius but she needs to be really inspired. Right now she's stuck. She needs to step away from performing these old songs, she can't hit the notes and sounds awful. Her image is so bad now. She reminds me of Bruce Jenner, one of the greatest athletes ever. Younger people don't know Bruce, but they know Caitlyn. That will be Mariah's direction if she's not careful. Once legendary, now a joke. BTW I just saw Cher on a Gap commercial singing Everyday People with Future. Cher is 71, doesn't dance, but performed at this summer's Billboard Awards because she put an effort. Fans and the media loved it. Far from perfect vocals but it was live. Mariah doesn't need to retire, she just need to refocus her efforts. But what do I know?

Re: VH1 performance was disrepectful (78,436) (78,443) by jaker20 from US
I thought about possible health issues. But I always thought she's just really gotten lazy. She just doesn't want to put much effort. Around after that 18th no.1, she just didn't care much anymore. She still put some now and then, but in general, she's just chilling. I remember around the release of E=MC2, she said albums don't sell anymore, the industry has changed, said she'll never have another Music Box success because that time's passed. I thought to myself, this girl's ready to retire soon. Then she got married. In essence, she retired when she married Nick and had kids. The Emancipation tour was her last hurrah. I don't remember a performance since where she really put her all. Talent still comes out on some live performances every now and then, but they're few and far between. For the most part she just wing it. She can put a performance if she wants but that passion isn't there anymore. She's no longer that motivated, but didn't want to completely disappear from the limelight. I've been there from day one when Vision of Love climb the charts so it's tough to admit. Now I always use Madonna as point of comparison. I hated Madonna in the 90s and 2000s, but admire her perseverance well past her prime, 13 years Mariah's senior. Success or no success, watching Madonna make me keep going in life. Someone asked below why fans bitching just not leave if they don't like MC anymore. Because I want MC to keep going. Right now she's cheating her career and herself. These performances are recorded, they will never go away. Go to YouTube, a great majority are her awful ones. The great ones are hard to find. That's become her legacy, the awful ones. Hope she realize it's not about success, no.1s or money all the time, it's doing what you are able to do and do it well. To entertain, to be creative. Otherwise, it is indeed time to retire. Know when to stop.

Bad dancing vs. not caring (78,441) by jaker20 from US
Emancipation era was full of awful dancing, but people loved that era because she put effort on them. Mariah was never a dancer. She's always been awkward when she dances. But let's not be foolish here, there is a world of a difference between not knowing how to dance vs. stripping then doing nothing on stage. MC always needed choreography because she's not a natural dancer, especially on her upbeat 90s songs. Even ballads where she just walks on stage requires choreo and preparation. It's Like That VH1 performance she did during Emancipation, she just walked around the stage while flowing her dress, but it's cute and cool because you can tell it was choreographed. The last 8 or so years have been repulsive to be perfectly honest. No preparation, just rubbing her hair and legs and lipping. I can bookend the past ten years of epic fails. (1) American Idol Bye Bye performance which she lipped. It's a big top 5 night, AI was ratings blockbuster at the time. She coached the contestants. Yet she lipped. (2) American Idol again, all season she's judging, ratings are decent. Yet when it's finally time to sing, she just stood on a stage float and semi-lipped. (3) VH1 this week, she's being honored, and lipped and did not seem to have anything prepared. In between these fails, it's controversies, divorce, flop singles, lip-gates. Cher was older than her when she hit no.1, and she doesn't dance either. Madonna was older than her when she hit top 3 with 4-Minutes and she's an awful singer. MC is irrelevant in pop music the past 5 years or so. At this point, I'm not worried about her career. I'm worried about her sanity period.

She's completely lost it (78,424) by jaker20 from US
She's become so lazy it seems, just coasting on the benefits of the 90s. She can't sing live, she can't move, she's not had a proper single in a decade (debatable because to me it's much longer), has not properly promoted a song, has not had a solid album in a long time. Everything is about what she's wearing, and being sexy. She's become a poor man's Pamela Anderson who is 50 now. Mariah is a complete and absolute joke now. Every performance is followed by the public mocking her. Its actually embarrassing these days to be called an Mariah fan. Tragic. But hey, she's "worked hard in the past, so she's got nothing to prove". That none-sense has crippled her creativity. Much older performers did well in the past, but Mariah completely losing it is self-imposed.

Re: Mariah Carey installed skinny mirrors in home? (78,326) (78,333) by jaker20 from US
The fact that people are talking about [this] stuff speaks volumes of the state of MC's career. As nasty as these rumors are, that means no one is interested to talk about whatever music she's doing. I mean my 12 year old niece [doesn't] even know [who] she is for crying out loud, and that says a lot [because] she knows Whitney and Madonna.

Re: Slightly shocked at Despacito (78,223) (78,229) by jaker20 from US
Actually Edward, it was exactly Justin's version that got the song to where it is now. The song without Justin was released in January, and got multiple remixes, and lingered on the chart for months but never reached top 40. So if the song was so hot, why didn't it chart higher? It was after Justin's remix version was released in mid April that the song took off, entered the top 40, and was no.1 in just a few weeks. Would the song have reached no.1 without Justin? Maybe. Would the song have reached no.1 if the song was only Justin and without Fonsi and Yanke. Maybe. But that's not what happened here. That's not the fact. It was the combination of both that got it to break record, a similar fear accomplished by MC with B2M in the 2 big artists collab is better than one.

Re: Slightly shocked at Despacito (78,212) (78,216) by jaker20 from US
[It's] some sort of chart manipulation. I know chart tricks happens since the beginning of [Billboard], but Despacito is sort of the perfect storm of this "trick". The song has two versions, the original one, and the one with Justin Bieber, and both songs are charting on iTunes, radio and streaming. The Spanish one is rotated heavily on Spanish radio, but both version on iTunes count as one. So that's a lot of push. It is very weird how artists and studios do this to manipulate the charts, but I know MC was also accused of chart tricks in the past, especially during the Glitter era. Also studios/artists release different remixes now, and they stagger the release of each remix just at the right time either when the song is peaking on the charts to give it a boost. But in the case of Despacito, the end result is more impactful because having 2 different languages is clearly a bigger push. I think the song would still be no. 1 for 4 or 5 weeks or so but definitely not 16 weeks. The song is generic pop for me. Someone mentioned Macarena and that's how I felt about the song too.

Article: Mariah Carey's "new deal" is her old deal, reiterated (74,362) by jaker20 from US
It's true though. She's released nothing in the last 7 years, or at least something non lambs know about without googling it. It's been trainwreck after trainwreck but fans refuse to accept it for what it is. I think she has no more creativity left, it's all gone down to booze and touching her hair. Surprsing because Madonna had a no.1 when she was in her 40s and Cher her bigger song ever in her 50s. MC needs to realize it's not all about Pamela Anderson-like drama and flings with dudes half her age, she has to deliver too. I'm not even expecting songs with high notes, just proper songs whatever they maybe. MC's problems right now is herself.

Better start than before (53,723) by jaker20 from US
I agree with Randy, these last performances isn't her best vocals, but I am definitely confident she will endear fans and casual viewers by at least singing live. Some parts are still not live, but better than the last couple of years. If she has to change some of the notes and chords that is alright, than lipping them all. The best part of these performances is singing VOL 100% live at the beginning of Infinity. It reminds everyone that the voice is still there.
