I'm responding to your post about you saying "the music industry does not have much control over anything anymore" which is incorrect. And everything you explained contradicted yourself.

Being triggered is one thing, but basically sabotaging an artist so they won't be number one is a different monster. Brenda's team's making sure she is promoting, she has a new video, she's giving interviews, she's on Tik Tok, she has an EP with different versions of the song. They are just making sure the song has the best chance at hitting the top spot, it's business. Just like Mariah has been doing it for years.

Everyone's jealous. That's all it is. Yes, Mariah's resurgent success has triggered a lot of people, even fans of more current pop girls. Labels, music media, execs, artists, industry people. They are seething. That's how you know that she’s doing something right.
Mariah [has] the best career. Having dominated an era. And then after her peak, comes a classic that will outlast everyone. No one has that combo, not Elvis, not The Beatles, not anyone. That's triggered a lot of people, the media, labels, execs, artists, industry people. Because that pushes her career above and beyond.
I think with her 18th no.1 15 years ago, she got a bit scared about actually beating [The Beatles]. Everyone's coming after her. I think she was unsure if she wanted it. But after AIWFCIY, she actually realized it's very achievable, and if she does the world won't implode. And if she doesn't, someone else will. I think Taylor will attempt it.
But I don't think Mimi cares about her critics anymore. She seems like she's just enjoying all of the icings on the cake.
As for Darlene, I was hoping that they would collab for Christmas BPCH. I was so sure it would be a classic.

The music business isn't a sweet easy going industry. Every artist will tell you that including sweet Dolly Parton. Record executives aren't playing nice when they are promoting a song to get it to number #1. There are some underhanded strategies being done behind the scenes to make it happen at the UMG executive offices. If RATCT goes to number #1, a huge television media frenzy will be made about it that week. Just my two cents from Texas.

Um Spotify has its own version of digital payola, with reduced royalties for some kind algorithmic boost via playlists. And Brenda's team have been very aggressive this year, having multiple versions included in playlists and having it strangest playlists like pop and teen playlists. These are Spotify curated playlists.

Robert-Anthony, the music industry doesn't have much control over anything anymore. The music industry as we knew it, it's forever gone. They can't influence streaming platforms to block users from playing the music they like, radio just goes along with what's trending or they stay out of the game. Fans have more control, instead of calling like crazy to request, we just go and stream, everything is way different. As I have stated, these two songs have legs of their own, the one that makes it to number one will be based on its own merit and promotional push on big events. AIWFCIY is a pure number 1, people keep buying it after all these years, they keep playing it and streaming it, no gimmicks. If Mariah really wanted, she could break The Beatles' record, just three great collabs with Drake, Ariana and Taylor Swift should take her there. I don't really care for that record though, the way things are, Taylor will eventually top them both.

Brand new album. That is how she stays relevant. Even if it's not a blockbuster hit, a good album is a good album, and it eventually reaches new fans. That is what happened to Caution, its impact was slow burn.
And in my opinion, it set the stage for the smashing return of AIWFCIY in 2018/2019. She needs to go back to releasing albums. That's her starter pack for the new gen to her classics.

I'm quite curious to read everyone's opinion. For 2024, would you rather have Mariah releases a 10 to 12 tract Rarities 2 album, where half of the songs are never before heard songs, or would you rather see here release a brand new 10 to 12 song studio album?

He also had a big no.1 hit last year with First Class which heavily samples Glamorous by Fergie, who imo, like Mariah in BE got screwed over and due to a bunch of technicalities did not get credited.

Jack Harlow is popular today because of his song What's Poppin went viral on Tik Tok. Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and Da Baby jumped on the remix and reached #2 on the Hot 100. He got a Grammy nomination and XXL Magazine named him apart of the 2020 Freshman class. His new song Lovin On Me is a R&B sample of 1995 Cadillac Dale's song Whatever (Bass Solique) and it is another Tik Tok viral sensation.

What a great album. All the while I was thinking, maybe this is the direction that Mariah should take? Midtempo songs that are pop but have a classic sound to them. Light bops and not too serious, it reminds me of a bunch of pop songs that all sounds like Always Be My Baby.

Is now 50th biggest hit ever in BB charts. It will continue to climb in the next couple of weeks and enter top 40, becoming MC's 3rd in the chart, after OSD and WBT. By the end of this season it could be the 15th biggest hit ever, surpassing The Beatles' Hey Jude. Needless to say, next year will be big huge year for Mariah, with the MC album's 30th anniversary.

It was a very noticeable shift. Immediately right after the TMB video, she was completely different in how she carries herself. Like I said, that video is probably the last time that we've seen Mariah move as much. So clearly whatever it is that caused her being stiff happened immediately after that.

I was actually thinking of the E=MC2 era and particularly the TMB video and the presenting of the Friday Night Project. Mariah was so animated and fun. Can you imagine what the show would be like if she presented TFNP now? Well Jamie wouldn't have gone, for a start lol and I might get his name right. I'm an idiot.

I'm entitled to say it. Yes, we, the alphabet people, can be overly sensitive and dramatic about simple shit. I didn't think about it, I didn't disguise it, I didn't imply it, I simply said it. It's not microaggression, it's me exercising my right to say whatever I want. The fact you had to reply to it just proves my effing point.
And just in case you want to come with the "shut up white straight man", I'm neither white nor straight, not that there's anything wrong with that either. So, whenever I want, I'll say what's in my mind about our loving and inclusive community.

Over-sensitive alphabet people? Why bring unnecessarily shady and passive aggressiveness here. This is now the 3rd time I've read these microaggressions in a few weeks and it's just so sickening. I'll leave it to the mod if you want to post this reply but for a fanbase that's heavy on LGBTQs this sure is lacking tolerance.

Mariah mounts herself on heels so high not even the most experienced Drag Queen could walk on them. Not implying Sam Smith is a Drag Queen, just in case one of the over sensitive alphabet people might want to start a cat fight, but he seems to to be very careful when walking on those platforms he mounts himself on.
Another thing, after her accident while filming the video for "#Beautiful", she's definitely being more careful.

Is any one else still pissed off this song didn't go to #1? I am. Ok bye. If we could get this song to #1 on iTunes Mariah would flip out because she knows this should have been a #1. Mariah have been stiff in the last 15 years. If anything, she's moving a bit more now. I don't think its the lipo or any procedure. For me, this really started during the release of E=MC2, and my suspicion is right after her miscarriage which would be around the release of Bye Bye.
She was pretty active in the Touch My Body video. When was the last time you've seen her move like that? So that is why I attribute it to her miscarriage. And I don't even think it's physical. It's more like mental or psychological or something. But hey, I am not a doctor.
Because that is also the moment when she adapted this Paris Hilton/Mean Girls image: super high heels she can barely walk on, super tight skirts ripe for slips that looks uncomfortable to move in. There's a sudden change in how she carried herself in that moment, and it didn't go away, she became a mother and so forth. I would believe medications before I believe lipo, and I hope I'm wrong because I actually prefer the latter.

Maybe the extreme stiffness is due to a recent lipposuction and a recent face lift? I don't know. Maybe she's recovering from recent surgeries. Because even though since 2010 her stage performances became very low energy in terms of movements and dancing, she was never this stiff. Though I'm enjoying some iconic moments from these Christmas shows, I share your thoughts about her recent awkward stiffness and lack of face expresion. I also feel good about her success with these shows, from the videos I've seen, people are enjoying them a lot and she's singing in front of big audiences again.

20 songs in the chart, and then disappear the following week. Mariah should do something big next year during the album's 30th anniversary and have every song chart.
Anyway, Brenda could take it this year. Mariah will probably do something big next year, so if she gets a couple of weeks this year, she'll probably take the record back next year. But she should do a good festive video every 2 years anyway, since that is all she is doing now.

Only four Christmas songs re-entered the Hot 100 this week. 17. All I Want for Christmas Is You 32. Las Christmas 38. Jingle Bell Rock 44. A Holly Jolly Christmas If there's a possibility for any song other AIWFCIY to hit No. 1 this year, in my opinion, that would be Last Christmas. I'm tired of seeing Taylor Swift with 20 songs on the top 10.

I think Mariah could absolutely best The Beatles, but I remember her saying in an interview years back that she's afraid to eclipse their standing because people would throw a fit. She mentioned things were already heated enough when she surpassed Elvis. If Mariah got credit on BBE, and her feature on Unforgettable with French Montana were the main, standard versions, plus Migrate being single 2 from EMC2, and Loverboy Firecracker version getting a proper push, she'd be there.

There's a rumour that Bryan Tanaka was arrested a few months ago in Brazil for his involvement in a scam several years ago (pre-Mariah). Not sure if it's true or completely made up, but that would explain his absence recently and subsequent removal from her Instagram. Or, they may have simply broken up. It happens.
As for the Christmas concerts, I'm not even going to waste my time watching the videos. It's the same thing we see every year. Like you all, I fear for Mariah's wellbeing and whatever she is battling. But continuing the charade is not helping anyone. The truth will come out one day I suppose.

Emotionless: Mariah's face is totally stiff (104,094)
by jaker20 from US

I agree with her being stiff, hello that's been her case since Memoirs. But she's not 99% lipping. This is the problem with group pileups, we get carried away, start exaggerating and it becomes free for all. I'm sure its possible to criticize her and still be truthful, without throwing everything but the kitchen sink.
Anyway, this is the start of the season, and per usual, I can already feel the lambs sharpening their knives. Carry on.

Emotionless: Mariah's face is totally stiff (104,093)
by MC1989 from Spain

The Virgin Mary kinda outfit is iconic, the religious imaginary always works (Madonna, Beyoncé etc and now Mariah is using it too), it looks beautiful on her. That being said, it's sad to watch her lipping 99% of the show. It's not that she's lipping the climaxes as she used to do, now she's lipping 99% of each song. She's stiff as a rock. She's unable to convey any emotion at all after the face surgery. I don't understand the need of exposing herself like this. If she's unable to sing, why go on tour? It's not that she doesn't dance, she doesn't sing either and she doesn't even try to pretend to be singing live. The only thing she does is stand there looking beautiful and stiff. I Hope she's ok but obviously she's not. I love you Mariah no matter what I will always support your music, your catalogue is untouchable and unmatchable, and so is your legacy, but please stop draggin' it. Don't go on tour. You have been blessing us for decades now. Focus on writing another book, songs or poetry, or on other projects less stressing or demanding, and only go out the and sing when you're really ready and prepared for it.

I think she can, if she want to. The Billboard Hot 100 points are so low. It's only consistently high during the Christmas seasons, which is a Mariah season. So if you're doing the math if Mariah actually wants to take it with a really good song, she can. I can't wait for the Usher collab. Maybe that will do the trick.

It's always seemed like a shame to me that Mariah's side project always have a short shelf life. Once they've been around for a few months, either the contract for those items discontinues and she moves on to the next or she loses interest altogether once it stops becoming lucrative. Her perfume lines (not including the lollipop bling lines, but the first one for sure) could have been a long term product for her, like Britney's or Beyonce's.

Mariah's kids are going to be teenagers next year, so hopefully things don't get even more hectic in the Mariah home. It seems at least that she's doing a great job there.
As for Tanaka, I was going to ask how that turned out. It's her private life but lets face it, they were together longer than any of Mariah's relationships and fans are going to ask. It didn't seem like a good ending, otherwise they would have acknowledge it.
On J. Hudson interview, I feel like she does not want to asked about Tanaka or anything related to her current relations, and that's why it sounded scripted.

It's funny, yesterday I listened to a few MC songs that I hadn't listened to in a while, like "Lead the Way". After doing so, I thought "why can't we just be content with exploring such amazing vocal performances and not bicker or focus on what we are not receiving as fans". And today, I viewed the Jennifer Hudson "interview" and wondered "what is going on with her that she has to have such interviews and questions scripted and then repeated for every subsequent interview she does during her publicity efforts"? It makes me question her well being and mental health status. I hope she is well. There are clearly changes we are not aware of, as evidenced by Tanaka's seeming absence, her reduced social media presence, the lack of any new recordings in years and the seeming abandonment of MC brand products like Black Irish and Mariah Cookies. Perhaps it's not our "right" to know but we do wish to be supportive of her as an individual, an artist and entrepreneur.
