If contouring is a scalpel, then yes, sure, contouring it is.

Re: "The Roof" video (72,525) (72,561)
by Jimbob88 from UK

The Roof is a masterpiece. The contrasting images of a lustful and liberated past with a luxurious, but confined, present is artfully done. I love the compositions - there is a certain feeling of energy during the roof shots, of life, people dancing, swaying, girls laughing, flirtation and lust. The venue may be gritty and exposed to the elements but it has people and passion. Compare that with the luxurious but sterile solitude we see Mariah during the limos shots - confined, a prisoner of her own success. She's restless, many of the limo shots show her anxiously moving, kicking her legs or swaying her arms, but she's trapped and the only way she can reconnect with her liberated past is to emerge from the limo's roof (oh the irony) to feel the rain drench her as the car hurtles down a canyon carved from skyscrapers. The image isn't triumphant, but of tragic resignation. The video ends with alternating shots; soaked scattered, half broken chairs from the abandoned party, an interior scene of Mariah standing against a wall (as her hair is dry, was this before the party? The viewer is subtly reminded that the way we remember is fragmented rather than linear and chronological) and that haunting image of a red-eyed Mariah (had she been crying?) reclining wistfully in her gilded cage. Tormented by her past.

An addiction problem isn't a simple as a question of maturity. Massively unnuanced comment.

She was so animated and honest here. This is the artist as a true legend. I like how she glazed over the question about her vocal deterioration however - clearly not comfortable talking about it.

A bit harsh but I agree that she was reading a script. The question is, who wrote it? The fallout from this debacle is as fascinating as the original screw up.

Raw audio (71,014)
by Jimbob88 from UK

Choosing an audio message is symbolically significant, she made audio messages during her Glitter meltdown (and historically). The implicit message is: "I'm at rock bottom so will record an audio message to reach out to the lambs." The older lambs will recognise this. I'm glad she's taking a break, hopefully this will involve rehab because I do genuinely believe that the problems extend beyond technical issues or an evil manager. Mariah has a self-destructive streak that has long preceded all of this. True lambs will know and accept this. She's also a survivor, I can't think of anyone else in the industry who is as tenacious as her. You don't write someone off who has achieved things of the magnitude she has. She just needs to sort out of a few issues. We're rooting for you MC.

Mariah - unwell (70,928)
by Jimbob88 from UK
| |
|
|
I think it's safe to say Mariah's battling big mental health and addiction issues. I haven't seen her this unwell since maybe Glitter. These issues are much more profound than her career. I wish she would take time out. Why does she need to work so hard? It must be insecurity as there can't be any economic need for it. Given her last, alleged, suicide attempt in 2001, we all know she is extremely vulnerable. Lose Stellar (fake sisterhood friendship used to exploit you for fame), go to Capri, sort out your addiction problems, come to terms with your divorce, diminished voice and age. People love you unconditionally. You do not need to be perfect. I genuinely believe Mariah, or her people, read these boards. The message will sink in. Expect changes in 2017.

Re: Finally, the culprit is found (70,796) (70,818)

Honestly I don't think the backing singers were there at all, let alone backstage. Judging from MaryAnn's FB posts she was a thousand miles away. I think their vocal was entirely prerecorded. P.S was Rachel Mcintosh fired? Stella is an utter disaster. I'm still mad that Mariah agreed to that tacky reality series. It's really cheapened her legacy.

Does Mariah's dancer Rachel still work for her? I haven't seen her at all in the new series and juding by FB she's not traveling with Mariah. What's going on? Maryann Tatum deleted me from FB for complaining about the Mariah's World website. What a tempremental baby. She may be talented but she needs to grow up.

Mariah - car crash (70,535)
by Jimbob88 from UK
| |
|
|
I feel like I'm watching a car crash in slow motion unfolding in front of the entire world. Beyond her professional reputation, which is now in tatters, I worry about her mental and general health. Her life is chaotic, vacuous and there seems to be a deep rooted unhappiness stemming from massive insecurities. Hence the booze, the drugs (?), the manic behaviour, the unpredictablity, the billionaire, the toyboy, the desperation, the vanity, the unfunny "jokes" and ultimately, the tears. It broke my heart when she muttered during the middle of the "performance" that she just wanted to be on holiday too. Mariah, people love you, you are a legend. Take time off, raise your kids (rather than objectify them on social media) and get the help you need, come back stronger than ever. You did it once before, you can do it again.
