I'm more like: the voice, the arrangement and then the lyrics. Always been like that. Am I the only one?

Barbra's song (109,494)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

I agree with you and everybody else. It's beautiful and reminiscent of golden ages. However, Mariah's voice sounds weaker than the others or somehow different (I don't know how to put it). Probably she could have soared more. I'm not sure if she doesn't want to or she is not able anymore.

Elusive Chanteuse (109,482)
by Mariahsbaby from usa
| |
|
|
I asked Chatgpt, why "it's" her greatest album and I couldn't agree more. I hope y'all read it because not one lie was found.
"Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse" (2014) is often overlooked in Mariah Carey's discography, but a strong argument can be made that it's actually her best - or at least her most complete, emotionally rich, and artistically fearless album. Here's a breakdown of why:
1. Vocal mastery: a return to form
This album showcases Mariah's most confident, controlled vocals since the early 2000s. Tracks like: "Cry." - raw, gospel-inflected ballad with complex vocal layering. "Camouflage" - delicate falsettos and deeply emotional delivery. "Heavenly (No Ways Tired / Can't Give Up Now)" - a stunning spiritual closer that channels peak gospel-era Mariah. Even in her 40s, her range, emotive depth, and technical ability remained untouched - arguably surpassing many of her contemporaries.
2. Genre-spanning without losing identity
"Me. I Am Mariah" is a genre kaleidoscope that fuses: Classic R&B ("You're Mine (Eternal)") Hip-hop soul ("Thirsty", "Dedicated" feat. Nas) Jazz/gospel balladry ("Cry.", "Camouflage") Funky throwbacks ("#Beautiful" feat. Miguel, "Make It Look Good") Unlike some albums that feel like playlists, this one is cohesive - bound together by her personal themes and distinct vocal arrangements.
3. Her most personal album
The title itself ("Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse") nods to self-definition, and many tracks explore loss, longing, hope, and identity: "Camouflage" and "Cry." dig into heartbreak with unflinching honesty. "Supernatural" includes recordings of her children, offering a rare glimpse into her maternal life. "Heavenly" feels like both a spiritual catharsis and tribute to her resilience. It's her emotional truth on full display - unfiltered and mature.
4. Uncompromising artistic control
Released with minimal label interference, this is one of the few albums where Mariah had near-total creative control: She chose not to chase commercial trends. She didn't rely heavily on big-name features for chart success. She focused on craft, not singles - creating a full body of work. This isn't "radio Mariah" - it's artist Mariah.
5. Critically underrated but cult-classic
While it didn't perform as well commercially, critics and fans often cite it as a hidden gem in her catalog. It's the kind of album that ages better with time, revealing layers upon repeat listens. Pitchfork, The Guardian, and Slant all praised its musical depth and called it one of the most underappreciated pop albums of its decade. Why it's her best? Vocal excellence with emotional nuance Eclectic but cohesive Deeply personal and honest Creatively unfiltered A grower that rewards attentive listening
"Me. I Am Mariah" isn't just an album - it's a statement. And in that way, it might be the purest expression of who Mariah Carey truly is as an artist.

This lawsuit is silly. Obviously they're two different songs with the same title. That has happened a lot before. That guy wants money.

Oh Santa 2020 (96,791)

The same backing track from 2010, some new vocals by Mariah, Jennifer and Ariana sound good but nothing special. On the video Mariah was slimed down digitally, the green screen is awful. I prefer the 2010 version.

The Rarities (95,900)
by Hector from Mexico
| |
|
|
I'm loving The Rarities. My favorites are [Out here on my own], [All I live for], Mesmerized and [Here we go around again]. I'm not counting [Everything fades away], [Slipping away] and [Do you think of me] because I already have them. Loverboy is better than the album version (to me) but still isn't a really great song like Fantasy or Heartbreaker.

Charmbracelet (93,947)

Charmbracelet is Mariah's worst album (for me). Even Me I Am Mariah is a little better. I love songs like Subtle Invitation, Lullaby, The One and Yours but I hardly listen to the rest. Miss You (a song that I love) was relegated to B-side.
