Hahaha. False claims about song and album positions on charts really annoys me. Like the claim Caution was #1 on the RnB chart the week going into the New Year. Huh? It clearly wasn't, I wanted it to be, but it wasn't. Then I get negativity because I say so hahahaha.

Ah wrong, Ella Mai has the #1 RnB album and Merry Christmas is at #19. Nobody's losing sleep over it. I just fact check things for my own peace of mind, and this looks like a false claim. Unless it's the British RnB albums chart (if there is such a thing).

What? I see Ella Mai at Number One. I see Mariah With You at #20 on RnB songs. I just don't see Caution on any chart. I know it must be somewhere if Yawl is saying it is. But actually where? Hahaha.

It's so weird someone calling Mariah "close to 50", even though myself am 40 and was a mere 11 when I first heard Mariah.

Mariah's opinion (87,399)
by Ricardo Edwards from New Zealand

Wouldn't it be interesting to hear Mariah's opinion on her current voice/singing style? I've seen her in at interview with Oprah, when Vision had recently been released, where Mariah said she just goes for the notes and they appear. It's apparent these days that those notes sometimes are just not there anymore for her. I've heard other great vocalists, such as Celine and Barbra, say similar things. Celine actually admitted she "sings around" notes if she knows she will miss them. I wonder what these singers, the real singers, who have had these extraordinary instruments at their disposal, feel when those instruments start to deteriorate? I watched a very recent performance of Patti Labelle, Over the Rainbow, and I was disappointed. She just didn't have the ability to soar into those high notes anymore. But Patti at Mariah's age was still singing like she was 20 years old. It would be really intriguing to hear Mariah speak of this. After all, it was the voice that captured a lot of us fans, and even non fans.

Caution 2019 (87,315)

So all the reviews are raves, Mariah has had a stellar year in terms of publicity, but is this enough to catapult that album back up the charts? I read on this thread that With You was holding at #8 on the AC chart. Radio just won't play her anymore. How can we turn this around?

Patti (87,290)

We're Not Making Love Anymore for me is Patti Labelle's duet with Bolton. I do like Mariah's version with the ending, the whistle note and that melisma dripping call and answer thing her and Bolton do. But Patti takes it to another level. With Mariah's, there's something very "primitive" or "untrained" about it. It reminds me of the Grammy performance of Vision of Love, the talent is undeniable, but she's not quite competent using a microphone live yet or something like that hahaha. But you can definitely hear it.

Totally agree... life moves on. I remember that episode of Oprah when she had her highschool graduating class on her show. They were all talking about how they were the most wonderful years of their lives etc etc. And Oprah said "Yeah it's fun to look back on them, but I see them as a phase, I don't still live there, I moved on." Life constantly changes and evolves. Yes Mariah was awesome in the early/mid 90's, and she's been awesome throughout and she's awesome today. It is fun to look back on, and enjoy the music, but that era is done and dusted. You come down from the mountain to climb higher mountains, and, with age, the definition of a "higher mountain" becomes very personal. It becomes less about how others perceive what you are doing and more what you feel about what you are doing lol. Record companies won't like it, but Mariah's solid fanbase will. I think she understands this.

Wendy (87,251)

Gosh, I just watched Wendy Williams claiming Mariah has very little in put in writing her songs. How infuriating Wendy is. But I guess if Wendy is still talking about Mariah (however petty) it means Mariah is still up there in terms of super stardom.

Mariah sales (86,473)
by Ricardo Edwards from New Zealand
| |
|
|
Well I guess Mariah has moved into that era where people want to see her live and not really buy her records. 50,000 is a great number, but I do agree. She's Mariah freaking Carey and should be hitting above the 100,000 mark. It was disappointing with E=MC2. After Mimi, that album should've sold more than it did. Somethings happened, but I don't know what. Her celebrity hasn't faltered any, every week she's in the headlines for this or that. Just those record sales aren't anywhere near what they used to be for her.
