Prelude to my next topic (102,743)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 18 May 2023; 17:39)
I have comprised some overall stats of Rainbow and Daydream in all areas and I have discovered some impressive stats. What I have discovered about Rainbow compared Daydream will get everybody talking and shine new light on MC as a brilliant artist. Rainbow was a huge success story for MC despite how Tommy sabotage its success. MC had total creative control during the recording and promotion of Rainbow while Tommy still had his puppet strings on MC during Daydream. Daydream was an enormous success, but MC lost such much control during the album promotion and looked defeated during her Grammys lost when she gave Columbia the best album of her career at the time. I will leave it there. I don't want share too much more of what I discovered about Rainbow being a huge triumph for MC. I don't think Rainbow has ever been called MC's liberation album But that is exactly what it was before Mimi was emancipated. Stay tuned for new post Saturday evening. Let me know your thoughts today. Agree or disagree? |

I know that I may seem a little eccentric at times, but you have to admit I have started some great topics this year. This one is my best so far. I have one new topic coming Saturday that is going to have the board talking all next week. MC will be proud of us next week. |

So, how would a vocal coach characterized MC's vocal issues? Maybe a deteriorating range, breathing problems, vocal chords closing up or inability to modulate notes to just sing at all anymore? I would like to know one day. Something is just not right with her voice. |

Stopping by to say hi to everyone. I also watched the new performance and yes although it was low energy and she was out of breath at times, she still has a stage presence. We lambs do notice a lot haha but she's getting a lot of love from the general public. They don't care if she's lipping or out of breath. She looked stunning and so young straight out of 2005. But I do think she should lose the corset, it restricts her breathing and I would love to see her move around a bit more. But at the end of the day I am just happy she's still among us, still performing, relevant without publicity stunts and still a legend. I know everyone has their own opinion and that's fine but I think the whole poll/debate about whether she should go through with the nodule surgery or not is absolutely horrible. We don't know what her reasons are and every surgery has a chance of risk. Plus just basic decency we shouldn't be giving out medical opinions. We aren't doctors and we don't even know her medical history. |

Maybe I'm missing something? (102,709)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 11 May 2023; 01:03)
MC seems very unhappy right now. She is not married. Her children don't have their father in the home. The man she thought was her lifetime husband disappointed her in so many ways. If you think back when MC performed Obsessed on her Nick's TV show, that was a woman who was in love and happy. During this time, we didn't cringe in front of TV everytime she performed. Her performances for the most part were on point especially when she performed when she was pregnant with Roc and Roe. When a person is not happy, it shows in their speech, weight, and overall confidence. The 90's MC would be doing all she could do to secure a record label with the right people behind her. However, MC has lost her drive because something is just not right in 2023. |

I honestly think at this point she's more concerned about the way she looks than anything else, even her vocals. A few years back during the #1 to Infinity era they did a video of her "reacting" to each of her number ones. Instead of sharing interesting anecdotes/reflections about the songs/videos, she spent the whole time criticizing her outfits and hairstyles, saying things like "hideous, what where they thinking with this shot, dahhhling".
There are multiple examples of performances from the last decade where she gets to a difficult part of the song, and then stops singing to look at herself in the monitor and rant about her hair/makeup or how she needs a "glam moment". This hyper fixation on appearance (which no one cares about other than her) seems to be a crutch to avoid dealing with the reality of the state of her vocals (a convenient way to distract the audience from the fact that she's not delivering, maybe she's even starting to fool herself).
As far as Lovers and Friends, she looked amazing, better than she has in years imo. But aside from a few nice impromptu vocal moments, she also delivered one of her worst vocal performances ever. It seems that she's happy with that trade off. |

One positive (102,703)

MC is a freakin genius. It's ironic that each song was composed with her musical director at time - Walter A., Big Jim Wright, and Ben Margulies. Her three most influential collaborators are these men. Erase their history together and we would not have gotten some of her biggest hits or Lamb favorites. |

Not to add insult to injury, but this is clearly voice issues not just vocal, as in singing, issues. I noticed multiple times when Mariah was speaking to the crowd, like when she yelled welcome Boys 2 Men [Boyz II Men], her voice broke and she didn't complete the phrase. That was just with her speaking. Something is very very wrong. But it's Mariah Carey, and if anyone can bounce back, it will be her. |

Boyz II Men performance (102,684)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

Maybe that is one of reasons she and Tanaka broke up. He probably wanted her to get some professional or medical help for her vocal issues. You know MC doesn't like to be told what she should do. I posted prematurely before I saw the rest of the videos. Can we all come to terms that we may never get a new Mariah Carey album? How can she produce an album with the state that her voice is in? It is sad that MC's career is on the verge of being over. |

The Boys II Men [sic] performance was tragic to watch. They were doing their best to support her and her current voice, but she literally couldn't sing a note from the song. It was painful to watch. It was nice to see the boys be so accommodating to her, but she needs help. The voice has slowly deteriorated since 97 onwards. During the Glitter era and the pregnancy, there was a resurgence, but for the most part, it has deteriorated to what we have now. I love Mariah and I do believe she is doing the best with what she has. I hope she puts the time and discipline into nurturing her voice. |

The whistle or the complete voice? (102,678)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Sunday 7 May 2023; 20:58)
Is it true to say that you were not impressed with her vocals last night? She did reach for some high notes that she could not execute well, but overall I feel she is using what's left of her voice. In my opinion, MC ruined her voice with the constant heavy belting and singing in that breathiness tone. |

If it's true that Mariah has nodules on her vocals that have damaged her voice, but allow her to facilitate the whistle register, what would you rather? Mariah to get surgery and lose the whistle register, but return to an overall healthy voice, or maintain the whistle register and continue to work around the nodules? This is a purely speculative post, as I don't know that she has nodules etc, and I have no clue what's wrong with her voice. If it is true, I'd much rather she lip whistle notes for the rest of her career and sing everything in between in a healthy voice. |

Why is MC such a brilliant songwriter? (102,645)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Monday 1 May 2023; 20:00)
This question came to my mind yesterday watching one of the American Idol contestants perform one of Stevie Wonder's most well known hits- For Once In My Life. Stevie Wonder will always be regarded as a brilliant songwriter because of his unique ability to draw in the listener with his lyrics and melodies. And that is exactly what MC does with her lyrics and melodies. Lastly, MC does that unique humming and singing to the melody of her songs that very few singers do. ABMB is a huge example of MC at her best. MC is one of the greatest songwriters to live. What do the Lambs think? |

Taylor Swift (102,640)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Friday 28 April 2023; 17:50)
Do you think that Taylor Swift's enormous popularity right now is mirroring MC's popularity years of 1993-1998? It just seems to me that her fanbase had really increased out nowhere in the past 3 years. She is definitely a business woman who knows what to give her fans to make them go crazy and spend money. One thing, I would like to know is why she can't get a man to put a ring on it? She has had more boyfriends that has exceeded the number of fingers on MC's one hand. You know I had to quote MC. Lol. |

I asked AI to write song as Mariah Carey would write it, and here's what it came up with.
Verse 1: I never thought that love could be so real, But then you walked into my life, and now I feel, A passion deep inside my soul, A flame that burns beyond control.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Verse 2: With every breath I take, I feel your love, It's like a melody, that's sung from up above, And every time I look into your eyes, I'm lost in a world, where love never dies.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Bridge: And in this world, that's so full of pain, You are the sunshine, that breaks through the rain, And I'll never let you go, my heart's in your hands, Cause baby, you're the one that I need, the only one that understands.
Chorus: Cause you're the one that I need, You're the air that I breathe, And I can't imagine living without you, Cause you're my forever love, And I thank the stars above, For bringing me to you, my love.
Outro: Cause baby, you're my forever love, And I'll thank the stars above, For giving me you, my love. |

Predictions (102,629)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Tuesday 25 April 2023; 04:42)
So T, do you think MC's need for time and space can be contributed to how she characterizes record labels and high profile management companies as the corporate morgue? What happened between MC and Epic with the rollout of Caution? Did something go terribly wrong with trying to secure Cardi B for thr A No No remix? Why did she suddenly leave Roc Nation to sign with Range Media. Why is she now in 2023 without a record label? Someone pissed MC off and has caused this need for time and space. This need is unusual for a MC who would record a new record every two years. I know she has gotten older, but it just seems like someone has caused this downward turn in MC's career. She needs Babyface to come rescue her like he did Toni Braxton. I hope that she is happy and is just waiting for the right time for her third comeback. |

None of these predictions will happen. At least not this year. Her close friend and lamb correspondent already confirmed on Twitter that no SUD and no Butterfly Lounge this year. She also noted that Mariah is a human being who needs time and space and cannot just snap her fingers and produce an album. So she urged patience. I only bring this bad news so to temper expectations. There are no new Mariah songs this years. |

I have a feeling that we will get some interesting projects released by Mariah this year.
I've a hunch that she has been in the studio with Beyonce. My intuition is that Act II may be an inspirational album, maybe with covers of classics in the culture. If so maybe AYNAF (alternatively this will appear on TBL). Unless Mariah hopped on a remix of Plastic Off The Sofa or Virgo's Groove.
And I heard a rumour that Mariah has something coming out with SZA. Did she hop on Blind maybe? Or is this another song for the Lounge?
SUD is coming this year too. I hope she includes some features on this project with like Willow Smith or someone else that has a fresh alternative style.
And maybe we will see Mariah and Ariana together on Honey this year. I hope The Butterfly Lounge is the project that carries us into the Rarities 2 and jazz album. This next couple of years will hold several "eras" I hope. |

Legacy (102,614)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Saturday 22 April 2023; 23:09)
It has to be the most reflective year ever on the board and it is just April. We are her most enduring fans who have responded to this topic today and we really care about MC. It is just worrisome that we have no true indication that new music is coming out. Also, it is out of great concern from us all about her vocal issues, no record label, and how the embarrassment of Nick's 12 children in such a short amount of time has affected MC. I hope that she can rebound quickly to take her legacy to new heights. I believe that she will surprise us all this fall with something other than Christmas music. Fingers are crossed. |

Her legacy will be 19 (and counting?) #1 hits, more than any solo artist in history, one behind The Beatles. Her legacy will be her induction into the R&R Hall of Fame. Her legacy will be that she wrote or co-wrote 18 of those 19 #1 hits. Her legacy will be scoring #1 hits in 4 decades, which has never been done before.
That's her legacy, of which individual songs are part of but certainly not overshadowing the whole. No one will ever tell her tale as an artist without noting that she has more #1 hits than any solo artist in history. |

One of the things that bother me with the newer fans, delusionals and yass queens is the over celebration of AIWFCIY. A few years ago the older Stans were on here arguing what MC's signature song was. We tentatively settled on Hero. But now it's clear what she's going to be known for if this yearly record keeps happening. I think that the noise around that song fades away some of the most amazing singer songwriter compositions ever recorded. Mariah Carey is more than some relic you drag out of the closet and dust off on November 1st. Another damaging thing that the newer fans, delusionals and yass queens celebrate is her whistle register. Yes it is lovely. But that register doesn't make a great singer. I remember in the promotion for Emotions she said she didn't use it more on the track because she didn't want it to become a gimmick. She laid off it quite a bit on Music Box and Daydream but when the voice changed around #1s it was on full display for Rainbow. I think it's a crutch used to prove she can still sing. But if you have lost your belting register, are you gonna whistle your next albums? I just worry that Mariah's career is in a bleak spot and people are shining spotlights on things that narrow her legacy to a whistling Christmas act. Thoughts? |

Maybe an EP or a Maxi Single? (102,602)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Friday 21 April 2023; 20:13)
Not that I am giving up on MC and will always be a fan, but I have been thinking what other artist can I build up a huge music collection. I just haven't found one definitive artist yet. I thought it was going to be Dua Lipa, but she is too pop for me. I guess I'm leaning more towards Kelky Clarkson [sic] since I have everything that she has released. There is something about the realness in her voice that makes me get into every song on her album. I love her new songs Mine and Me. To conclude, MC will always be my #1 artist, but I am missing new music and being able to open up the insert and read the credits and lyrics. What a treat it was see if her name was before or after the main producer or to see who she collaborated with or who did the background vocals. Maybe she will surprise us in 2024. Half of 24 is 12 and 12 is her lucky number. Lol. Bye bye. |

Remember that record labels as we knew them don't exist anymore. Recording an album might be more expensive than the revenue they would get from it, especially from a legacy artist like Mariah. I think she should go independent at this point. |

Apparently, record labels don't think so either. Who would have thought that Mariah Carey would be without record label? Something ain't right with that picture. Where did MC go wrong from 2015- 2019? I don't think that she ever makes the Hot 100 top 10 ever again. |

I do agree that MC is going to lose fans if she doesn't release an album soon, however, I don't know if releasing a studio album is profitable for her anymore. I'm noticing that Cardi B hasn't released her second album. Many other acts wait a long time between albums. We got spoiled by the 90s. Maybe MC could give as an EP or a maxi-single with different versions like I Still Believe or My All/Stay Awhile. It would have to be a killer single though not an Infinity or I Don't. |

It's been all but confirmed by some Mariah insiders on Twitter that she does not have the rumored projects coming this year that everyone thought. Not even the Butterfly Lounge. That leaves us waiting until next year, however seeing how 2024 is the 30th Anniversary of "Merry Christmas" I'm sure that will be the priority next year. |
