New song? (103,232)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Monday 21 August 2023; 01:37)
Lol. I got all excited today at the library. I totally ignored those Pepsi ring tones when they came out. Shout out to Chante Moore for taking up for MC. She is the real deal. She can execute her whistle notes as well. She recently married former BET executive Stephen Hill who helped MC find new management after Crustella. What if Mimi married Stephen Hill? Chante got her man. Lol. By way Mariah Trends on Twitter posted a video today of MC holding baby Philip with Rocky. Who is baby Philip? |

It's called "All to Myself". It's one of the Pepsi ringtones she made back when she got emancipated and changed her name to Mimi. |

This has been a good week with great topics. From rumors of MC's impending return to A.I. to reminiscing about the Price sisters and Melonie Daniels to the impact of discounted singles to flirting with a favorite board member to my failed The Rarities 2 Twiiter campaign, the topics brought us all together. I may have to visit the U.K. this Christmas though. |

Yeah I get that when you've had the album as a whole from the start, anything else wouldn't feel part of it. To me it wouldn't feel Music Box without it as that's how we heard it over here. I remember thinking at the time why's it a bonus track it's that good. |

It is perfection indeed. Even though I discovered "Everything Fades Away" years later since it wasn't part of the US version of Music Box, I've placed it at the end of "All I've Ever Wanted", but it always sounds out of place to me. It's a good thing it is now on "The Rarities". "All I've Ever Wanted" vocals are insane. |

This is what I miss about 90's music, background vocalist would be heavily added to tracks and in short parts usually towards the end would almost be the lead with the artist singing over them. I love Michael Bolton and he used this style, Everything Fades Away is a good example of this. I find it adds depth and texture to songs and can bring out more emotion in certain songs.
How cool would it be for Mariah to do one track with the Price Sisters and Melonie, and team up with Walter for writing and production. She's always going on about the nostalgia darrrrling so give us some nostalgia. |

I got this wrong in not pulling out the CD or vinyl. They are still boxed up from my move. I really didn't read any CD liner notes until Butterfly. Lol. Maybe I am just still a little sour and defensive at Kelly for posting that vocal shade at MC some years ago. But I am guilty as well. |

Kelly Price (103,188)

(Wednesday 16 August 2023; 05:05)
Kelly Price recently did an interview with Vibe. She says during the recording of Daydream that it would just be her and MC in the studio. She says that vocals heard on Fantasy is all her and MC. I don't believe her. I don't hear Kelly Price at all on the album version of Fantasy. I have listened to Fantasy 6 times tonight and all I hear is MC doing lead and background vocals. Why now Kelly? Oh, I forgot that you are promoting the 25th anniversary of your album Soul of a Woman. |

On Subtle Invitation, and likely the others you mentioned, her voice is pitched up for the final version. There was an original pitch version of Subtle Invitation floating around a few years back but I don't think it's about anymore, probably got removed. Personally I thought the lower, natural tone sounded better, but who am I? |

The way MC sings on this song has never been talked about before. It's not her head voice nor is it her whisper voice. She does the same type of singing on GTFO and There Goes My Heart Again. Music majors help me out. Are all three sung in the same key? |

This is the best AI Mariah's voice cover so far. It helps that it is sung in her style. Just made my own Mp3 just in case they take it down. It's simply amazing. We need The Rarities 2 right now. |

First Vision (103,156)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Thursday 10 August 2023; 03:27)
I just realized today that First Vision was never released on DVD in the U.S. I wonder if it will ever be released with some extra live tracks or an extended Patricia and daughter moment. Also, whenever Sony Legacy chooses the time to break our wallets with boxsets and previously unreleased, it is great time for Lambs. Can you imagine all of the early 90s demo songs all on one CD? |

Tommy or no career at all (103,151)

MC never worked with Master P again after that mishap in the studio. Something is just off with her vocals and lyrics. I cringe every time I hear it. I am glad Clown came along on Charmbracelet to remind us what she is capable of when she is focused and works with one of the best and my favorite production duo Dre and Vidal. |

Loverboy (103,141)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Sunday 6 August 2023; 16:29)
The Loverboy debacle was probably the catalyst in MC's decline in popularity. First, who was the Virgin AR executive who pitched the idea to the promotional team to sell the single for 49 cents at retailers. The number one female artist at the time and you have to sell her lead album single for 49 cents to ensure a hit on the Hot 100 because radio airplay was weak. Second, the remix was disorganized with all of the special guests who overpowered MC's own remix. I remember back then thinking that there is too much going on the remix. Third, it was MC's first album lead single to not make it to #1. Finally, the Candy sample just did not hit hard enough as a sample for a lead single. After a couple of listens, you get bored with the heavy beat. |

I think the released version with the "Candy" sample can best be described as an "interesting mess". Critics were right to call it subpar in comparison to Mariah's previous output. The video was fun, but the low quality of the released version definitely contributed to the underperformance of the "Glitter" soundtrack.
The "Firecracker" version is vastly better than the released version. I personally think Mariah could have gotten away with releasing it even with Jennifer Lopez using "Firecracker" for "I'm Real". The original version of "I'm Real" ended up underperforming any way, and that song did not become a hit until it was remixed with Ja Rule.
Mariah still needs to put out remix EPs for the Glitter album singles on streaming. Does anyone know if she's planning some type of "Glitter" anniversary release? |

Tommy or no career at all (103,137)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
(Saturday 5 August 2023; 20:54)
I often wonder why did it take Tommy to discover MC. She had this beautiful voice in high school and the help of her brother Morgan after high school. Could it be that if Tommy had never been handed her demo tape, that we probably would have never had a Mariah Carey? The world didn't need another Whitney Houston or Aretha Franklin? MC sounded and emulated the both of them at the beginning of her career. It wasn't until her voice started to change in 1997 that we got a very different sounding Mariah and her musical style evolved into what it is today. I think Potrait gave us the full circle Mariah Carey who looked back at her career in a song. Just me thinking that God is not done with MC yet. This woman has bounced back so many times and caught the world's attention again. |

It must be heartbreaking for MC that she can't sing in the studio anymore to record songs for a new project. It has only been 4 years since Caution was released, but man it feels more like 6 years. I am sure there are a lot regrets now about not taking better care of her voice. |

I believe MC received a pay out from Epic to dissolve that 3rd album or they counted RCA Inspiration Fall In Love At Christmas as credit for the 3rd album. Epic has dropped MC from their roster. |

Well Mariah argued her way out of Sony's 10-album deal early. They said albums like Unplugged and #1's didn't count, but she countered as Unplugged charted in the albums chart, as #1's contained new material and new singles. Then they agreed to part with Greatest Hits being the 10th album. Same might be said for the Epic contract. Caution, #1 to Infinity and that All I Want for Christmas Is You compilation for the book were all released through Epic. That makes three of the same logic is applied. Time will tell. |

It became apparent to me today maybe MC's damaged to her voice is irreversible now because of her age and the vocal nodules have enlarged. Who knows maybe I am wrong? However, I feel Caution was probably her last album of new material. |

That Love Story acoustic performance is just beautiful, one of my faves, so short and sweet, forgot about it. Can you believe that was 15 years ago? That was a long time ago. I feel like a different person. Looking back now, an acoustic remake album would've been super cool. And she was still in her 30s. Now she's in her 50s. That's a big difference. Maybe her voice just wasn't meant to last. Maybe she's just enjoying her life and kids and hundreds of millions of dollars now. Personally I'm bored of the Christmas stuff. I loved Caution. I guess that was the last album. I'll go play it now. Never say never. Bye. |
