I'm curious if any of you have listened to Bruno's new album. From what I've seen most like it. "Risk it all" is very nice, I love the Spanish guitar so much. I've even seen some already saying AOTY and I just laugh. Come on now.

There's supposedly a rumor of a collaboration but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I do believe Mariah wants a hit but if it never happens it's okay. I just hope the next record makes more noise.

Yes, I know MC has reflected upon her missteps with HFIA and now has a plan to give us a Mariah Carey album we have not heard since Daydream, Butterfly or TEOM. I just feel MC is getting ready to join the following legacy artists in the Grammy platinum album comeback club.
1. Steely Dan - Two Against Nature (2000) 2. Paul Simon - Graceland (1986) 3. D'Angelo - Black Messiah (2014) 4. Santana - Supernatural (1999) 5. Green Day - American Idiot (2004) 6. Loretta Lynn Van Lear Rose (2004)

That's so exciting to hear, are you a detective Bobby haha? Seems like you know a lot about Mariah's whereabouts. I really hope Mariah's next album makes a splash and she finally gets those Grammys she deserves .Mariah deserves a Norah Jones or Billie Eilish moment. I hope Gamma can make it happen if the music is Grammy worthy.

Thank you, Giovanni. I just keep having these strong feelings and visions that MC is preparing to come back stronger with MC17. MC was seen recently at Hit Factory Studios meeting with recording engineer Kento Yonesaka (worked on MIAM) and a producer from MIAM. She seems hungry to be on top again knowing that seven years between albums is something that she should never do again. Maybe Bruno Mars and Jill Scott have inspired her.

HFIA breakdown (113,296)
by Giovanni from USA
| |

I still listen to HFIA. For me "In your feelings", "I won't allow it", "Jesus I do" and "Nothing is impossible" are my favorites and the ones I play the most. My problem with the album is not so much the songs, it's Mariah's voice. I would love Caution part 2 with at least one hit song.

HFIA breakdown (113,290)
by Lainsky from Philippines
| |

It seems Mariah has shelved HFIA and the deluxe edition idea. Typically, I listen to her latest album almost every day for the next six months to a year after purchasing it. However, I realized that it's only been five months since HFIA was released, and I haven't played it much in the past month or this month. Don't get me wrong. I like HFIA, but I guess I love playing her 90s' album more lately. In fact, I've been playing "Breakdown" more than any of her other songs. I loved it back then, and I love it even more now, including the music video. Lambs of my age can't help but feel nostalgic these days.

Haha that is probably the best dream you've ever had Bobby, and I love your name by the way. Are you sure it was a dream and not your imagination/fantasy? In another universe that would happen but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I do believe Mariah has it in her to have another hit song, record and Grammy win. I'm still not over the Academy robbing her for AOTY in '06. I do feel Mariah has something planned for her next album though. Most of us love HFIA but feel it didn't make any noise. I love "In your feelings" and it hit number one on the r&b chart so that should count for something. I really hope Mariah's voice gets better and she gets another Grammy moment I believe she deserves.

I had dream last night that MC would be back on top again in 2028. Here is what I dreamed about.
1. MC releases her 17th album entitled, I'm Back (In Arms Your Again) - JD/BMC/Crystal Johnson/Johnta Austin collaboration 2. She collaborates again with Walter A., Babyface, JD, Skillrex, and some top producers and songwriters of the last 10 years. 3. Critics rave that MC's voice is back. Some say her Butterfly tone is back to stay. Her whistle range is "Emotions" strong again. 4. The first single makes it to number one in less than 5 weeks. 5. Many Lambs say the Bruno Mars, Sza, Toni Braxton, and Fred Again collaborations are their favorites. 6. MC embarks on a 30-city summer/fall tour in the U.S. The first show is at Proctors Theater. The last show is at Madison Square Garden. 7. The second single is a Pop R&B ballad collaboration with Walter A. and Babyface that is reminisce of Love Takes Time and Everytime I Close my Eyes. 8. One year later after the release of a deluxe version, eight Grammy nominations, numerous of television performances, a Rock and Hall of Fame Inductee, and the 2029 Superbowl Half-time show performer, MC finally wins multiple Grammy awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys. 9. MC sits down with Oprah for a May TV sweeps interview about her remarkable career and the rollercoaster ride of 2028 and 2029. 10. MC finally falls in love again with a wealthy NFL coach.

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,277)

The thing is Mariah has really not used her whistle register that much on her last two albums. I know most would not care if she lost it if it meant getting her voice back. But I like the way you think about trying certain things before doing the surgery.

The funny thing is most people don't like her trademark "the whistle". I loved it on her debut and "Emotions". There are fantastic songs like "Dreamlover", "Bliss" and "Bringin' on the heartbreak" with her epic whistle. But it was clearly overused and not needed in many other songs. Her deeper tone has the real magic. But I would be afraid of surgery, if it's not needed, because of health issues. I guess there's always a risk, no matter how good a doctor is. I would first try to loose the bad habits and relax.

This is the hit song Mariah needed for HFIA. When I first listened to it for some reason I thought of Mariah and her current voice. I wish she had done a song with that type of music. I think it's one of Ariana's best songs and becoming one of my favorites. I think they should both write a song together one day.

I love it too, Giovanni. Try listening to the original. You can find it on YT. Mariah and JD made it better. I did not know it was a remake. I only found out a decade later, lol. It occurred to me that all the additional singles on her No. 1s are remakes, except for "When You Believe", which is also on Whitney's album.

That's why I want her to get the nodules removed. I know it's not my voice and I myself do not like the idea of being put under the knife but I think I'd do it. I would recommend Mariah get Dr. Steven Marc Zeitels, the man who did Adele's surgery. I read somewhere that the only risk would be Mariah losing her whistle register. Would any of you do the surgery if it meant getting your voice back and being able to sing again?

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,262)
by John from USA

I'd like to think of Mariah's voice as that rare flower that only blooms once every few decades (maybe centuries) - beautiful, exquisite, and unique in its fragrance, yet fragile and short-lived. There was a time in the early 90s where I thought (heck, bragged to friends) that what Mariah can sing is only limited by the heights of her imagination and creativity. L ooking back though, there has always been glimpses that Mariah's voice has always been fragile. Even at the very beginnings of her career, she has always stated she would wake up everyday not fully knowing how many octaves of her voice she can access one day versus the next. Her voice, while she was young, responded to her usual vocal rests and humidifiers, but became less and less reliable as the years went by. It didn't help that she had such difficult songs to sing, that required her to use as much vocal real estate compared to the other members of the vocal trinity. I saw one video that analyzed how Whitney never really went to the extremes of her vocal range (higher and lower extremes) in her concerts. Celine resorted to masterfully miming the high notes and belts early on, which likely helped preserve her voice for much longer. The latter two, by the way, are also natural sopranos. Mariah is a natural alto with soprano capabilities. That she is able to match and even go beyond what these two sopranos could reach vocally is amazing in and of itself. As Mariah got older, the good days (reliable days with wider access to her full vocal range) had become fewer and fewer, with less reliable days became more the norm. I can imaging how that would have been an even bigger handicap to her stage fright. She was a vocal natural, honed further by whatever informal training she got from her opera singer mother. As these unreliable days became more frequent, she eventually developed bad (compensatory) vocal techniques. It didn't help that she did nothing to correct this by getting more vocal rest, or changing her lifestyle and giving up bad habits. Despite all these however, what remains is Mariah's distinctive and unmatched tone. You'll see Whitney and Celine vocal impersonators left and right, some quite convincing in their mimicry, but there is no one that can fully embody Mariah's unique tone. It's amazing how in the latter years, with each album, I notice a little bit more vocal strain and vocal decline. And yet, when I listen to those more recent albums, I still find something I'd appreciate about that distinctive voice, worn and torn as it had been. She is a vocal athlete who did feats I used to marvel at. But just like an Olympic athlete who can no longer win a gold medal decades later, I will not hold that against her that she can no longer match those feats three decades later. She is the ultimate vocal Olympian. Her voice is one of a kind and I am glad to have experienced it and awoken to it in my formative years. As a child, this once little boy had never listened to radio before, until Mariah came along. This is why I became a fan, and remain one to this day.

Tommy pursued Mariah and crossed the boundary between a boss and his employee. MC trusted Tommy thinking he would heal her childhood wounds and guide her career. I think MC has always looked for a male friend or partner to give her that fatherly guidance that she longed for from Alfred Roy. L.A. Reid comes to my mind being that positive father figure in her life and career. If you could pull back the many layers of her traumatic childhood, you would understand why she gravitated towards certain men and women after Tommy.

Should have at the very least been an r&b hit. I had it on a loop today it's one of my favorites Mariah produced with JD. I hope we don't have to wait another 7 years for the next album lol. And as you had mentioned Nostalgic or Nostalgia would be a good album title. It's strong and makes sense if Mariah wants to make a record that reminds her remaining fans of her past work. HFIA had potential with IYF and NII but as I brought up recently it really doesn't matter how good her next album is if the voice doesn't sound good. I am hoping something changes and she gets it back in better shape ala Caution.

Do you think MC's next album will have to be her most personal album to date? I think MC needs to create a body of work that has a bold relatable album title that makes the non-Lamb scrolling on social media say, "Hmmm?" The album has to read like a personal diary with an infusion of jazz, pop, dance, and R&B. I want to hear more of the good, the bad, and the ugly next time. MC is going have to make a bold personal statement with her next album like Jill Scott did today.

I love the AI version of "My love", f you ask me it would have fit perfectly on the Butterfly album. I would have swapped out "Whenever you call" as it's one of the few songs from Mariah I don't care for. I imagine "Jesus I do" in Music Box voice or Emancipation voice.
Speaking of "Jesus I do", I want Mariah to work with Kirk Franklin for another gospel number. I love "Jesus I do" and I love "Fly like a bird". I feel "Fly like a bird" is a personal song for Mariah and one most of us love. I also have a great love for "I pray" and wished it was longer and had made it on TEOM. I wish we had gotten a gospel album in 2015 instead of another greatest hits none of us needed.

Well said. There is an AI version of My Love (Butterfly era) floating around the internet. Wow. Check that one out. There is one thing, though, that does unite all these vocal eras - the songwriter. No matter how Mariah's voice has changed, no matter what era is used to create an AI version of one of her songs, there is one constant in all of this - the songwriter. Those lyrics are truly what makes her music so special.

It's okay Stacey, I also listen to AI versions of Mariah as well. For me it's not so much me wishing she still sounded like her younger self it's just for fun. We all have our own fantasy Mariah song covers we wish she had covered. The AI version of IYF in Daydream voice is so addictive and amazing. I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting Mariah to get her voice back in shape I just think she doesn't care anymore. I'm still listening to Caution and HFIA regularly though. NIA has become of my favorites along with "Jesus I do".

I absolutely love the messages from HFIA, song and album. But I'd be lying to myself if I wasn't a bit conflicted when listening to these songs given her current voice. It's just not the same. I feel like such a cop out seeking AI versions of HFIA, IYF and NII using Butterfly and/or Daydream vocals, preferring to listen to those versions sometimes. At the end of the day, I can't be too sad. I have such an amazing, unmatched by anyone catalog of music to listen to.

If she stops drinking or smoking whatever purple taking her higher, she will gain back her voice. Remember when she was pregnant in 2010 and she performed One Child in Washington? Mariah's voice (113,239)
by Giovanni from USA

I'm glad we're finally discussing the current state of Mariah's voice. There are many fans who are delusional and who are in denial. I really think Mariah doesn't care and has just accepted how she sounds and like Edward said it's sad. I really do like HFIA but it would be so much better and enjoyable if Mariah had her MOAIA or Caution voice. I appreciate her giving us another album but I believe there is something that happened or something that's going on and why her voice sounds the way it does. I read that medications can cause dryness and inflammation and that's what we hear. I feel so bad as I'm typing this because I feel as though I'm trashing her but I'm not. I just want her to sound good again and I refuse to believe that's not possible.

I doubt Mariah had her nodules removed. The success rate for nodules removal especially today is high. If anything she would sound better. Her problem is she doesn't take care of her voice like she used to like in her younger days. A lot of fans say she has vocal damage but I disagree it's definitely the champagne. Vocal damage can be fixed. One of the things I love about the Caution album is that her voice sounds very good especially in. Even during the pandemic she showed she was in a good place vocally. I don't wanna judge Mariah but I definitely think she turned to drinking to cope with something. A lot of people in the industry turn to drugs or drinking to cope with the stress life of being an artist or because of loneliness/depression. I sometimes think would she be in a better place emotionally had she and Nick still been together. Even with Bryan she looked very happy and alive which makes me believe she might feel lonely at times. I truly believe her kids help a lot and give her a reason to live. I hope whatever she's going through especially health wise is helped by God.

There's a picture of Mariah with designer Fausto Puglisi he posted on his Insta and her hair there style looks different than when she hit the stage for her performance at the Olympics but that is how I like her hair styled. In fact I would love if she got a shoulder length cut and went brunette again. I like you am over the long hair it's so TEOM.
