Super Bowl (110,829)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
I'm a no on Mariah doing a Super Bowl performance. I just think she's past her prime and I don't know if she could deliver vocally. I think it would be a risk and any mess up would just be more ammo for haters. We're still recovering from that disastrous New Year's Eve performance so the last thing Mariah needs is negative coverage of a bad performance. Let Taylor Swift do it.

MC back in the studio (110,826)

I do hope Mariah has a hit on her hands but if she doesn't that's okay. For me she has more than enough but how awesome would it be if she did get herself a 20th number one. I do believe "HFIA" will be a good album regardless. The song titles are very interesting especially "Play this song". I also hear the music in background for "Mi" and it sounds so good.

MC back in the studio (110,824)

Shezz, this is great news. Surely, some JD remixes and new songs are on the way. MC's surprise studio picture looks like JD's So So Def studio. I really feel now that no more singles will be released until after the album drops. I am saying this because the way MC revealed the tracklist in such a social media strategy way to build anticipation with the song titles and lyric two liners. I believe Gamma wants multiple songs to "album bomb" on the Hot 100 like Morgan Wallen's I'm the Problem did in May. It will probably happen with Mi, Play This Song, Confetti and Champagne, I Won't Allow It, My Love, Jesus Do It, Here For It All, and In My Feelings. People are talking about these songs the most in social media comments. I believe it will happen for her HFIA. 2010 is when streaming numbers were allowed in the calculation equation for the Hot 100.

Sugar Sweet solo version (110,790)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
This is what I wanted from the start. It's a good song and it could have been the song of the Summer if Mariah had another verse and a video ready to go. I realize now in order for a song to be a hit fans need to stream but a video doesn't hurt. I still like watching new music videos. I don't know what Mariah and her team were thinking with "Sugar sweet" because it could have been a hit.

I'm very surprised that JD did not produce one song for "HFIA". Does anyone know if he and Mariah are still friends? Also what happened with Johnta Austin? Mariah hasn't worked with him again since "DFAU" I believe, she should work with him again.

MC the GOAT (110,760)
by Giovanni from USA
| |
|
|
I did not know that (about Tommy). I like Bey but her having 35 Grammys is a joke. Mariah was robbed in '96 and in '06. She definitely deserved album of the year for "TEOM" but the Academy gave it to U2. It was nice to see Mariah at the Grammys last year but she once again called them overrated lol. Maybe she can at least be nominated again if her songs are worthy.

The Academy hates Mariah. It's very apparent Tommy infiltrated the board in '96 and wanted to humiliate the crap out of her since they were on the brink of divorce. They still objectively did her dirty during TEOM when she blatantly deserved AOTY and refused to give it to her.
Though the Grammys are desperate to save their credibility now, they thought making Beyoncé the most awarded in 2023 would reel in ratings, but it backfired. The general public's sentiment was, "Nah, she good, but she not that good." It worked for them having her until around 2015 imho, but everyone truly woke up after she won Best Country Album last year. Everyone thought, "Okay, so sponsored and paid by Jay-Z," which we all know is true. It's so clearly her retaliation for being snubbed in the Country Music Awards, so they called their friends up in the Grammy board. It was a pathetic move though, it's sadly backfired and now most of America think the Grammys is a joke. It turns out all the small towns throughout the nation know the authentic country sound and America is not just LA and New York.
Anywho, MC did surprisingly get an invite to the Grammys to present for Miley, so maybe they've cooled off on Mariah and are finally ready to develop a decent relationship with her. "Actually, so people think we're rigged and we need real talent again. You down?"

I can't. Mariah looks absolutely stunning in her recent Instagram reel talking about the Mi era. I love how Kristofer does her lips and how she didn't get fillers like everyone else in Hollywood. She simply sculpts them with makeup in such a brilliant way. Mariah has found her signature looks and is unapologetically maximizing them. She is just "making the most of life". She truly is doing what ever the hell she wants and I aspire to be that festive.
"I'm about to reach a new beauty peak, darlings: body snatched, face snatched, a VMA moment, a BET Icon Award moment, maybe a couple of number ones, and beat The Beatles. A Grammy moment to remind everyone who the **** I am." She understands bipolar disorder is bleak, so she's choosing to experience all the highs to their fullest extent.
"I don't care. Buy the award. We're wealthy and fabulous. Buy the finest diamonds, it doesn't matter. Don't be bleak. I'm the queen of Christmas. I'm rich and sexy as hell darlings." I love how she's arrived at the point where she knows she is in fact the best, a cut above everyone, and is now getting whatever the **** she wants. Why? Because she simply can.

#Beautiful video (110,734)
by Dove from United States

I really want to like the #Beautiful video because I love the song but it's so awkward to watch. And I hate to say it but cringe. Which is weird because the video is technically good. It looks like art. It's just... her poses and facial expressions don't look natural. Neither do Miguel's. It's funny because she looks better in the behind the scenes making the video footage than in the actual video. I really wish they would go back and rework that one.

The video for H.A.T.E.U. is also shockingly bad. I was even more chocked to find out that Bret Ratner directed it who directed her more iconic videos. The bathing suit is so unflattering, I can’t believe she let them put her in it. There is no way she selected it. But again, looking low-budget for a high caliber director.
It bothered me so much, because I absolutely love love the song. This happened a lot in the 2010s, solid songs wasted by bad videos. #Beautiful is another one.

Here For It All (110,692)
by Bobby A from United States

Journalist Stevie Musicfeelings posted on X that he has listened to HIFA. He said the the album is "quite different from Caution, a bit more soulful and even gospel-like towards the end. Stevie said, "Above all, the two singles are pretty well chosen in my opinion. They're the most radio friendly." The last part of his comment has caused some Lambs to have some concern for any HIFA future singles' performance on the charts. He said that he will give more individual song feedback once MC releases the tracklist. Do you think he's saying that the two chosen were singles for a reason or that the two are the only two radio friendly songs on the album?

Mesmerized (110,649)

Listened to "Mesmerized" on repeat today and Mariah is definitely the queen of testing her microphone. I love this song so much, it gives me Bee Gees and Michael Jackson vibes and Mariah's whistle at the end is legendary. If "Mesmerized" was released in the 70's it would have likely been a hit, same with the song "I feel it". If she was a singer in the 70's she would have been just as successful. Imagine Mariah singing "Love Hangover" from Diana Ross in the 70's. I loved her performance remix with "Heartbreaker" at Divas Live, it was great.

It’s tiiiime... to let the children know (110,644)
by Terna from Nigeria

I watched this analysis a while back too and I agree with most of his points of view, especially when he pointed out that Mariah's voice was at its most powerful and free at the "Music Box" era. That was spot on, her voice was front and center with such a wow factor to it, concerts from that era and vocals she did on the records through to early '94 were just jaw dropping, at what a voice was capable of. However, I also think that this was the period where she damaged her instrument. That tour from 1993 created problems that manifested in her modal voice and her ability to sing comfortably inside her range and transition smoothly. I think Oleta Adams or was it Gladys Knight? When interviewed once and asked about Mariah, advised that she sings way too much outside her range, singing with a constant lift since her voice wasn't a textbook soprano voice (this is true) so to speak and she might suffer damage down the line, if she didn't limit the use of her ability to sing so high (This was even before The Emancipation Of Mimi. I wonder what she thinks of that one. Haha.)

I also love the "Triumphant" video. She looks so good, I remember being excited and ready for the album and we never got one. I even thought Mariah was gonna name the album "Triumphant" lol. My Mariah song covers (110,627)
by Giovanni from USA

Yup Mariah was meant to cover this song. In my opinion it would have fit perfect on the "Daydream" album. It gives another flow to the song "Underneath the stars". She also could have covered it during her Emancipation era because her voice was so smooth and on fire during that time. It wouldn't have fit on the album but she could have just covered just for me as a recording haha. Aaliyah did such a good job covering it. I really wish she was still here. Mariah liked her music.

The answer is no. Notice how the group was called Destiny's Child and not Destiny's Children? The group was used to get Beyonce's foot through the door for her solo career. It was always about her which is why I feel so bad for Kelly and Michelle. They were so happy being the most successful female group other than The Supremes of course. They were dumped like trash. We never even got another Destiny's Child album after "Destiny fulfilled". Beyonce is selfish and if you ask me does not deserve 32 Grammys. At this point how many more can she get?

Didn't Beyonce lose a plagiarism case in the last 25 years? Mariah tops the Hot 100 for 7 years straight, wheras Beyonce struggled for 14 years on Billboard. Let's be honest. Would Beyonce have as many Grammys if she didn't marry Jay-Z?

I couldn't agree with you more Dove. I like Beyonce and think she's a decent singer and vocalist but she is not on the same level as Mariah as a producer or songwriter. I just recently found out Beyonce has produced some songs when she was with Destiny's Child and also some songs later in her solo career. I do think Billboard is over exaggerating her talent as a producer. I guess we're supposed to forget all the dozens of song writers who have helped her with all her albums. And don't get me started on the number of Grammys she is. Her father and Jay Z are why she has so many. I wonder how much the Academy charges for one? I hear they're pretty pricey.

Why is Beyoncé way higher than Mariah (and a lot of the other producers on this list)? I read (on Reddit a long time ago) that she doesn't even write her songs. I read she changes a few words and claims credit. That's her contribution. Are we living in the upside down? How can she, in good conscience, even accept that honor? Does she even deserve all those Grammys she has? She has a great voice, and some great songs, but is she actually the producer? I don't follow her that closely, so please somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
