I have some song titles tea, but I don't want to spoil what is to come on Here For It All. MC's 16th studio album is shaping up to become a huge seller because of The Clark Sisters collaboration. If you think Never Would Have Made It was a huge radio hit for Marvin Sapp in 2007, wait until MC and The Clark Sisters drop their song on 9.26. The song title is reminisce of The Clark Sisters' fans favorite songs by them like Endow Me, The Center Of My Joy, and Name It Claim It.

Nobody said anything negative to Brad, except Victoria, who implied the board was full of "hating ass hoes". I guess she included herself in the mix, minus the "hating" and "ass" parts. Some people just love to stir the pot and make things up. Brad made a vague comment about the board, but nothing specific. It was weird because, as you said, we were all just joking around about album titles and having a good time. The vibe was light.
Looking at his recent posts, it's pretty clear Brad hasn't been happy with anything Mariah-related lately, which is totally fine. The problem is, when he chose to leave, he acted like this place was some toxic nightmare and he just couldn't deal anymore. That doesn't make sense, especially when most folks here actually liked "Type Dangerous" and the video.
Many love playing the victim and throwing digital tantrums, they start acting like they're here to reprimand others, which is just ridiculous. We've got positive folks, critical folks, and everyone in between, but we've all been part of this board for a long time. Brad completely trashed "Type Dangerous", can you imagine if I had gone off on him for not liking it? It'd be absurd.
Time to stop being so damn sensitive, it ain't that serious. This board is going to keep being what it is. If I had a penny for every time someone complained about a person, a post, or the entire board, I'd be filthy rich by now. Some keep trying, but nobody's going to be walking on eggshells here.

You don't know how many times I used to play and sing along to "I'll Be Loving You Long Time" in the summer of 2008. I still do some times. It's a real pity that it wasn't promoted properly. It could have been a hit. And Mimi in the video, wow.
By the way, I've always loved "I Stay in Love" as well. In fact, a dog of mine was called "Baby, I stay in love with you" (short version: "Baby") after the song because, when he was a puppy and I would sing that little part around him, he used to come to me. So that became his name, but in the singing mode. Lol. Everybody got amazed whenever I sang his name and he would appear from wherever.

After 2 weeks without listening to this song (I've been really busy), it doesn't seem bad at all to me. In fact, I think it's a beautiful song and very well done. Overall, Mariah is the most creative one in her vocals, but the most restricted of the three. Anyhow, maybe we were a little too critical of all of it when it came out.

I love "Sent from up above". The song has a carefree vibe and singing style that is unique. It's the carefree and hopeful sound that is representing the youth in general. Well, a 20-year old Mariah was showing music magic with her debut. The early 90ies were so good.

Mariah's unique tone and sound (109,534)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain
| |
|
|
This is absolutely right. The most prominent thing about Mariah's voice is her versatility and musicality. She is so creative that several listens are needed so as to be able to appreciate all the nuances. That's why I always like her, but in this song specifically she sounds quite restrained. She could have given a bit more. I know her voice is not very powerful today in live performances, but I think it still is in the studio (at least).

Mariah's unique tone and sound (109,501)
by jaker20 from US
| |
|

One thing stood out for me on this song is how unique her voice is. This record made me realize, again, why I fell in love with her. She's actually more reserved here, and respectfully stepped back. But it also made me realize how unique her voice is.
Streisand's voice is classic and powerful, Ariana is also a good vocalist and has her own style. But side by side with other artists, how Mariah "play" with her tone stands out.
Her power is probably not the same anymore, but the playfulness, texture and dynamics is always going to be there. It's hers and hers only. She goes from whisper then like a "fracture" or break, head and chest, and then back to soothe again.
I don't understand vocal terms so I'm clearly sounding senseless now. But then Mariah herself said she never had a formal training. But that quality on her voice is really what makes me recognize it's her and make her voice unique. That even great vocalists, even if they try to sing her song, it's just not, and will never be, the same.

I agree with you and everybody else. It's beautiful and reminiscent of golden ages. However, Mariah's voice sounds weaker than the others or somehow different (I don't know how to put it). Probably she could have soared more. I'm not sure if she doesn't want to or she is not able anymore.

Mariah sounds great with them. The production sounds a bit dated though. Is it just me or is there less of Mariah than the other two?
Clearly not a Mariah song but a pleasant surprise. She did her thing with the song she was given, wish we had more of her. Specially on the chorus. Makes me hopeful for the ballads on MC16.
In a weird way it made me appreciate TD more.

One step at a time, don't push it. Mariah basically ran a marathon just walking that stage. She finally diversified the dance crew, even got herself a white guy and a couple of black hotties in the mix. Her midsection wasn't under siege for once, just squeezed into a corset that didn't make her look like she was battling demons. And let's not overlook the miracle: for the first time in years, she didn't look like she was squinting at a teleprompter or searching for her soul on the monitor. And now you expecting her to sing too? Ave María Purísima.

Capital's Summer Ball (109,353)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I just watched the Summer Ball, and I actually liked it a lot. Almost everything is prerecorded, but it seems like it's her current voice, it's much deeper, she can't belt, but a few high notes here and there. And funny thing is, she actually sang a few notes and frases live, and those live notes, are actually pretty good. I wish she could have the confidence to actually sing, she has to break the barrier soon.
She doesn't care if it looks like she is lip synching or not, but she does it a tad bit more believable than in China. She doesn't move her muscles in her face, but at this point I'm affraid it has with botox to do, it's quite strange how emotionless her face has become.
She moves a bit more freely, and I actually think her outfit looked modern, almost a bit of a image change from the gowns and the big hair. She was not tacky, it fitted her well, she seemed young, but her own age at the same time, and not desperate to be sexy.
I'm quite pleased with the performance.

We all know Mariah's history. But, as she stated, she's just playing.
Mariah's literally listing her music videos' cameos. An evil king and castle was Honey. Motorcycle guy is Sweetheart and Beautiful. Computer nerd is Touch My Body. Construction and customs is We Belong Together as a nod to Wentworth Miller. 12th to never is Mine Eternally where Trey Songz leaves Mariah's butt in the rainforest. I think it's brilliant she's bringing up her previous works and music videos. Mariah's right - she doesn't take herself as seriously as others do.
Everyone has started referencing their previous songs in lyrics just as Mariah has done for awhile now, so she's raising the bar. It's a whole new flex.

Mariah's voice (108,871)
by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway

I haven't written on this board lately, been some months. I have been in the top 20 as of messages throughout the last few years. Maybe I wrote a couple of messages at the start of the years, but after that, months.
I am as most of you, devestated about the current condition of our girl, Mariah. She can't sing, she can't move, she can't show an emotion. It's clearly to almost all uf us, Mariah is in a bad state, and I think it's mentally and emotionally. Deep down, we all know that if Mariah gets in a happy place again, her voice will also follow, and we can have a few great moments again.
The thing is, I have more agility and range in my voice than Mariah at the moment, and I'm a 41 years old man who has never tried singing as a career.
I wish Mariah well, and all the help she needs. Let's stay positive now, folks? Love you, Mariah

Mimi sessions (108,849)
by Mirage_Nunez from America

|

I'll admit on first listen, I was a bit concerned that her voice sounds more exhausted than ever, but by time she got to Say Something I had an involuntary smile on my face, because she sound a bit more vibrant and I loved just hearing her pure voice with piano.
I watched again today with my earphones in and enjoyed it even more. Is it up there with MTV Unpugged 92? No, but still enjoyable in a more mellow calm way imo. I think we all already know what's going on with her (for the most part), she's come out about her vocal nodules (which makes her voice inconsistent), she's come out about bipolar disorder, we know she's dealt with distress, depression, trauma, heartbreak, loss, etc. Listen, I get it. It's hard to watch some of her recent performances because she looks just how everyone has described: sedated, barely moving her lips, etc. Honestly I find myself avoiding a lot of the live performances or the comment sections nowadays, because of this. Ultimately I know we all just want her to be respected and revered as the Mariah we all fell in love with. However, we have to give her some grace and credit for giving us an honest performance with the Mimi Sessions, it wasn't overly engineered or dubbed, it was Mariah singing comfortably in her current voice: something she's been criticized for not doing in recent times. We can debate that it wasn't perfect or up to her prime standards, but it was a raw honest look at where she is today vocally. It's normal as fans that deeply love her to get down, maybe even depressed over her not shining as bright as she once did, but her legacy as one of the premier female artists of all time is cemented.
Of course, I'm always hopeful that we'll get one more undeniable era of Mariah at her best, but all I truly care about now is her inner peace and happiness. Praying we get our happy vibrant lively Mariah back.

by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

Is this really the cause of all the debate? Together with the Mimi Sessions? Hey, you all. This is Mariah nowadays. Haven't you noticed? I think some of you are blowing it out of proportion (not directed at anybody specifically, ok?).
However, I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again, I don't think she should be touring this year. Instead, she should just relax and work on the new album if she really wants to release it (and treats us with some performances like the Mimi Sessions just for our entertainment because, even though they are not the best in her career, but she shows real talent and musicality in them).

Live (108,809)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain
| |
|
|
Nobody says anything about this? This is just what we want from her nowadays. This is pure artistry. It's all real and completely live. She is so amazing, and her ability and musicality are incomparable.
Only one "but", we're not getting any more insane and great belting ever. That part of her voice is almost gone or not in a condition to be used outside the studio or a controlled environment. She won't run the risk.
Also, the prompters are really necessary for her. She could look at us (the cameras) instead and she would look more natural and straightforward. I think it's a habit she has gotten used to and it makes her somehow feel safer on stage.
Conclusion: I love her for this tiny bit of a performance. I feel fascinated right now to see the real talent she has (and how rarely she shares it with us.).

I want to throw a jab, but that list is actually so funny LMAO. Why is everyone so unserious here? On all seriousness though, you can taper it down to Mariah just having a handicapped voice plus overworking.
She's not really a regular singer, think of her process in masterclass where she hums and leads the band until they get it right, that then doing the production, vocal arrangements, tripling background vocals, staying up until 7 in the morning with the audio engineer. All that, times a million songs.
But yeah I almost resented Mariah for never ever sounding like 96 Tokyo Dome live. But then I think about how her voice is literally heaven sent. It's like you will have the most beautiful voice ever but the trade is, you'll have nodules and it'll be super fragile, but you'll be gifted artistically though. Like everyone will be left in the dust.
To simplify it. A regular singer would be training vocally for 2 hours. Mariah would meet with the band and write chord progressions for hours, humming - overworking her voice. Lead the producers to get things right - with her voice. Then hit up the background singers and arrange some adlibs. Again through her voice. Then keep editing and trying until her handicapped voice is worn out. That would be 10 or more hours.
She did that since 84, that's more than 40 years of just giving it your all. Driven by the fear of being poor again and disappointing her fans and the label.
The inevitable result is her voice being shot. She really did the best with what she got. Everyone needs to be grateful and give her, her well deserved flowers.

Born this Mimi (108,727)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Did you really think that when the label decided to list her birth year as 1970 that Patricia, her own mother, wouldn't be one of the first people briefed on it? I don't think Mariah randomly came up with that on her own, but she had to go with the program. At the time, it was common practice to round down or adjust the ages of female artists for marketability. It happened with Mariah, with Madonna, with J.Lo, and many others. But at this point, most people don't care anymore.
There's one irrefutable piece of evidence that no interview, driver's license, or altered birth certificate can contradict: Mariah's birth announcement in her hometown newspaper, The Long Islander. It was published on April 10, 1969, exactly one week after her birth, and it reads:
"March 27 - Mariah, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Carey, Huntington."
This notice is documented in the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, on page 15 of the paper. If Mariah had been born in 1970, that announcement wouldn't have appeared in print in April 1969. It's a clear, verifiable fact.
Back then, you could say whatever and people would just go with it. But once the internet came around, stuff like that became a lot harder to hide. And now? Mariah doesn't even seem to care. Articles say she's 56 this year and 55 the year before, and she's not out here correcting anyone.

I must absolutely agree with you. Last year I posted here a YouTube video where the TV presenter stated as a fact her birth date (March 27th 1970) in a TV show back in 1994 and she just confirmed it by saying yes. For me it was just obvious she was telling the truth, but you said that she just went along with it as a commercial strategy or something of the kind.

Mariah has clearly come to terms with her birth year being 1969. She hasn't disputed it publicly in years, and the evidence has long been out there. Back in the late '90s, the principal of her former school confirmed she was born in 1969. A copy of her driver's license also surfaced online with the same year. But perhaps the most definitive source is the newspaper birth announcement, it's publicly available and explicitly states she was born in 1969. At this point, denying it serves no purpose. The receipts are there, and the facts speak for themselves.
