HFIA review (112,328)
by Xavier mariohmix from Spain

I think my mother agrees with you. On the second day after the release of the album when I was listening to it at home on the speakers at full volume while sweeping the floor, I screamed: "Wow, this album is just beautiful.". And she replied: "She sounds as usual." All this in Spanish, of course. Lol. And I thought: "She isn't capable of appreciating her artistry and her evolution as an artist." Lol.

HFIA review (112,320)
by TJ from Norway

"It's new, but, at the same time, it's got classic Mariah and a little bit of everything (to my delight)."
That's the problem with this album. She's trying an old formula that doesn't work anymore, and she's done it so many times before. From my point of view she's not evolving as an artist. Caution was different, but not enough.

By vocal acrobatics I meant the belting. On Caution it was more consistent and regular in the usual last section of the songs (if I remember well, it's been so long since I listened to that album). However, "Me. I am Mariah..." was the last time we had real huge belting (the one we have always been used to) like on "Supernatural" or "Meteorite".
On the other hand, the whistle register is always there and used very wisely aesthetically, as usual. And you're so right to say that "her vocals remain steady and buttery throughout the album", and that's what makes it consistent. Vocally, I still love her voice just because she's capable of doing so many things with it and creating so much beauty sonically with plenty of nuances. For me that's outstanding.
One thing I didn't mention in my review: the lyrics. She's a real master. She knows we pay real attention to that, and, apart from being something natural in her, she puts a lot of effort into it. "Play That Song" feels like a film when you listen to it and close your eyes in order to imagine the scenes.
When somebody commented on this album being possibly her last one, I felt like I was going to cry, but it felt right because of what it is like. Still I hope it won't.

I miss the vocal acrobatics too. "HFIA", unlike "Caution", still has some great vocal moments, not as showy, but definitely there. Mariah's whistle register sounds a bit thicker now, and I actually love the smoky tone of her voice on this album. She doesn't go all out, but her vocals remain steady and smooth throughout. smoky, buttery, and effortless. What more could we ask for?
As I said, "HFIA" would be a beautiful goodbye album if she ever decided to stop releasing new music. Still, I have a feeling she'll put out another album in a couple of years. At this point, I think it's dawned on her that the longer she waits, the less she sells, and the more people disconnect.

My quick review (better late than never): overall I like it very much. It's new, but, at the same time, it's got classic Mariah and a little bit of everything (to my delight). Just like she told us, it's an eclectic album. The one thing that I miss really much: the vocal acrobatics. They started to fade away on the Caution album, and now that's a fact. However, the artistry is intact and evolving, her real virtue. Right after the release, I didn't want to listen to the album more that once a day. But lately, the number has increased. It's a real pity this kind of music doesn't have a global impact like it used to. Anyway, we're here for it all. Hugs.

Well, I have a masters degree in psychology and working as a mental health professional, we are not diagnosing Mariah, but the symptoms can be symptoms of early Alzheimer's. There are other wild speculations here about almost everything, her mental health have been talked about for years.

Dress (112,291)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
There's an interview from about seven years ago on MTV TRL where she talks about working with Whitney, and they mention the whole dress situation. She says she isn't sure whether it was her dress or Whitney's that arrived late, and someone on her team reminds her it was hers. In that interview she's completely present and articulate, she was promoting "Caution" at the time, so I don't think her not remembering that detail recently has anything to do with Alzheimer's or her meds. It just seems like one of those things she genuinely forgets whenever it comes up.

The arrogance (112,272)
by Lighty from China
| |
|
|
Well, the 2024-2025 Mariah Carey is stiff on stage. She said she had to do the Christmas residency because (her) people booked it. She didn't know Katy Perry went to space. She frequently forgets what specific word to use in recent interviews. She said in the JHud show that Whitney's dress was late for the VMAs but actually it was her own dress that almost didn't make it. She doesn't even remember her own lyrics and relies on multiple teleprompters on stage. Not really sure if it's because of menopause or the alleged heavy medication or early signs of Alzheimer's but do you really expect "this" Mariah to Google things herself? Her team is the one to blame.

I agree with you and Joachim as well. It seems like either she doesn't really care at all how she's being seen, or she's not actually aware of it (although I highly doubt it, sung a la "Play This Song" jejeje). There are some hints here and there in the interviews that indicate that her head is not clear and her mind is kind of slow.

Alzheimer's (112,288)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
I don't think it's Alzheimer's, it seems more likely to be the effects of her bipolar meds. What's troubling to me is that no one in her circle seems willing to say, "Hey girl, something seems off. You look sedated on stage, maybe talk to your doctor about adjusting your meds."
On "Nothing Is Impossible", she sings: "Seemed like I'd never rise again, surely I couldn't find a friend." Those two lines confirm something I've always felt, that Mariah doesn't really have people around her who can be both supportive and honest, a true friend who could tell her hard truths because they care. Instead, it seems like she's surrounded by cheerleaders and "yass queens" who are more worried about staying in her good graces and keeping their checks rolling in rather than actually looking out for her well-being.

There are two solo versions on YouTube. The one from 3 months ago is fan-made. The other from 1 month ago is the real solo version (after the release of the album). Coincidentally, I got my physical copy today as well from Amazon Spain and I was surprised when I listened to the solo version as the album track.
PD: In fact, I got it way back in early September (pre-order), but it arrived at a relative's house and I wasn't able to open it and enjoyed it until today.

Just got my copy of "HFIA" (Japan Edition). Surprisingly, it has 13 tracks. Track 4 is "Sugar Sweet" (Solo Version), and it's different from the solo version one on YouTube. It seems like Mariah went back to the studio and added an almost lazy-sounding short sort of verse in place of Kehlani's part. Track 12 is "Type Dangerous" (DJ Snake Remix), I love this one. And Track 13 is "Sugar Sweet" ft. Kehlani and Shenseea.

I Shazamed every song in the mix and the same results came back not so surprising. There was such a mix of prerecorded and live vocals that Shazam came back with these results.
Big Energy/Obsessed/Honey/Herartbreaker - prerecorded from the Global Citzens Concert
Fantasy ft. Ol' Dirty Bastard - mixed vocal recording with live vocals
We Belong Together - prerecorded, live vocals and the Late Night Valentine Mix - (in my opinion)
We still love MC.

I am bipolar myself, and used lithium for two years, but the side effects made me stop using it, it was not lack of energy or fatigue.
I have also a psychology degree, so I have first hand experience and academic merits.
There are a lot of different medication you can use as a bipolar, but the medications that affect your energy, libido, exuberance, and makes you a "living dead" is the antipsychotic drugs, like zyprexa (olanzapine) and others. Sometimes if you have had a severe relaps like a manic or depressed episode, you can get olanzapine as an injection, or you get another antipsychotic drug called zeplion as an injection. Those medications are administrated once a month, is a so called depot medication, they can have a devastating affect on your mood, happiness, energy, libido, hunger, and the joy of living. Those medication makes you completely flat emotionally, it can give you social anxiety and general anxiety, they keep you in a state where you are just alive, nothing cheers you up, and nothing brings you down, you are completely empty and dead inside, there's not an ounce of mojo what so ever. It's also very frustrating to be in that stat, because you have vivid memories about how you used to be happier, and that makes you even more sad.
I suspect Mariah is, or has, been on heavy medication since the death of her mother and sister, which have made her mojo disappear. Even after you have decreased the dosage or auto seponated the medication, it can take months for you to even have a happy thought occurring in your head, but you will get happy again. Using such medication is not a way to live, I have been there, and will never ever again be so dead inside because of medication again, then I will rather not take them.
I use orfiril which is a stabilizer that works perfectly for me with no side effects.
But be aware guys, after this period with our beloved Mariah be almost a living dead, she is too fatigued to even move around, expect a period from some time from now when she will be exuberant again, and maybe then she will go over the top at the other extreme. But then I think people in her life will keep her out of the public for a short period of time. Mariah was in a manic state at the infamous TRL moment. After her being so low as of recently, it might be expected for her to go up in the clouds as a counter effect in her brain, when chemistry in brain wants to maintain homeostasis again, the neurons releases neurotransmitters to balance the depressed state Mariah is in now. Then she will go overboard, but will retain balance a few weeks to a few months after that.
This is the life of a bipolar, I have written two books and a bunch of opinion articles about it Norwegian newspapers.
Just remember folks, the Mariah we all love is still there, she just have to flourish again.

I have some song titles tea, but I don't want to spoil what is to come on Here For It All. MC's 16th studio album is shaping up to become a huge seller because of The Clark Sisters collaboration. If you think Never Would Have Made It was a huge radio hit for Marvin Sapp in 2007, wait until MC and The Clark Sisters drop their song on 9.26. The song title is reminisce of The Clark Sisters' fans favorite songs by them like Endow Me, The Center Of My Joy, and Name It Claim It.

Nobody said anything negative to Brad, except Victoria, who implied the board was full of "hating ass hoes". I guess she included herself in the mix, minus the "hating" and "ass" parts. Some people just love to stir the pot and make things up. Brad made a vague comment about the board, but nothing specific. It was weird because, as you said, we were all just joking around about album titles and having a good time. The vibe was light.
Looking at his recent posts, it's pretty clear Brad hasn't been happy with anything Mariah-related lately, which is totally fine. The problem is, when he chose to leave, he acted like this place was some toxic nightmare and he just couldn't deal anymore. That doesn't make sense, especially when most folks here actually liked "Type Dangerous" and the video.
Many love playing the victim and throwing digital tantrums, they start acting like they're here to reprimand others, which is just ridiculous. We've got positive folks, critical folks, and everyone in between, but we've all been part of this board for a long time. Brad completely trashed "Type Dangerous", can you imagine if I had gone off on him for not liking it? It'd be absurd.
Time to stop being so damn sensitive, it ain't that serious. This board is going to keep being what it is. If I had a penny for every time someone complained about a person, a post, or the entire board, I'd be filthy rich by now. Some keep trying, but nobody's going to be walking on eggshells here.

You don't know how many times I used to play and sing along to "I'll Be Loving You Long Time" in the summer of 2008. I still do some times. It's a real pity that it wasn't promoted properly. It could have been a hit. And Mimi in the video, wow.
By the way, I've always loved "I Stay in Love" as well. In fact, a dog of mine was called "Baby, I stay in love with you" (short version: "Baby") after the song because, when he was a puppy and I would sing that little part around him, he used to come to me. So that became his name, but in the singing mode. Lol. Everybody got amazed whenever I sang his name and he would appear from wherever.

After 2 weeks without listening to this song (I've been really busy), it doesn't seem bad at all to me. In fact, I think it's a beautiful song and very well done. Overall, Mariah is the most creative one in her vocals, but the most restricted of the three. Anyhow, maybe we were a little too critical of all of it when it came out.
